HYBRID DOCUMENT SCANNER
IT’S A JUNGLE
OUT THERE.
AND GUESS
WHAT’S ON THE
ENDANGERED LIST?
In today’s digital economy,
businesses rely on advanced
information technology to carry
them into the future.
Unfortunately, even the most
sophisticated data storage
technology has a limited
life-span—as little as five years.
Think about it, your businesscritical information could be
facing extinction sooner
than you think.
The
scanner
with a
photographic
memory.
WHAT TECHNOLOGY GIVES,
TECHNOLOGY TAKES AWAY.
Imagine the year 2010. All your important
documents and records have been backed up
and stored in a digital library. Problem is,
when your new/upgraded computer system
tries to retrieve them, all you get is a blank
screen. With no established technology
standards, and none on the horizon, one
simple hardware or software upgrade could
be enough to lock you out of your digital
library for good.
Even if future technology is viable, your
digital storage media might be unreadable
due to aging and deterioration. It won’t take a
major disaster, just simple human error, to
render any file unrecoverable. At best,
backing up information electronically is
labor-intensive—stealing time from more
productive work. Even the best migration
strategies for updating archives are timeconsuming and error-prone, not to mention
cost-prohibitive for most businesses.
BACKUP TO THE FUTURE.
No single technology, no single machine, has
succeeded in handling all aspects of document
capture, storage, and retrieval. Nothing, that
is, until now.
Presenting a revolutionary innovation from
Canon—the DR-5060F. Representing a category
of one, it’s the only high-speed, high-volume
desktop scanner to combine the best of both
digital and analog worlds, in one affordable,
space-saving unit.
Only Canon’s DR-5060F Digital Scanner
captures documents electronically, saving
them simultaneously on obsolescence-proof
microfilm. In one simple operation, you get
the security and legal acceptability of
microfilm storage. Plus, the digital convenience of high-speed, PC on-line access.
WHAT INTEGRATED IMAGING
WAS MEANT TO BE.
FEATURES THAT UNDERSTAND,
“YOU’RE ONLY HUMAN.”
Thanks to Canon’s DR-5060F, business now
has a cost-effective, front-end solution for
high-volume document capture and storage.
Never has backing-up been so forwardthinking, or “long-term” so wise an investment,
guaranteeing a permanent record of the past
and a reliable link to the future. Canon doesn’t
make safety an option. Neither should you.
In today’s digital world,
where zeros and ones
equal words and ideas, and
reality could be virtual or
real, Canon’s commitment
to “humanizing” technology
is further defined by the
DR-5060F’s intuitive automatic features—one touch
user-controls, automatic
feeding and paper adjustment, pre-programmable scanning/setup modes, and more.
These “real-world” features maximize
hands-off operation and virtually eliminate
rescanning and pre-sorting. The DR-5060F is
more than just a statement about productivity,
it’s the exclamation point in your peace
of mind!
THE NEXT MILLENIUM...
AND BEYOND.
Technology may change, but the DR-5060F
will keep your important documents secure
for at least 100 years. If anyone knows the
secret to long life, Canon does. A world leader
in imaging technology for over 40 years,
Canon’s superior reputation for reliability is
very well documented.

The DR-5060F workstation has been specifically designed to maximize operator comfort and
enhance productivity. Available in three separate modules for installation flexibility, all
components feature heavy-duty construction and locking castors. Workstation I
(for the DR-5060F main unit) is height-adjustable for operator comfort
and easy access for those with disabilities. It includes a
keyboard/mouse tray and CPU bracket, which may be used
with either the left or right companion unit. A
completely configured workstation provides
space for a computer monitor, while
maintaining ample room for
document prep and desk
accessories.

THE FAST TRACK HAS
A PASSING LANE.
Canon’s DR-5060F turns even the busiest
imaging experts into smooth operators,
thanks to incredible speeds of up to 100
pages per minute* for accelerated throughput. The assurance of high-quality text,
graphics, and halftones—achieved through
high-resolution image quality and 256levels of grayscale—as well as Canon’s
renowned reliability, lets you breeze through
virtually any application, from government
records and insurance claims, to freight bills
and financial transactions—just what you
need to make work fly.
SUDDENLY, THE WEIGHT OF THE
WORKLOAD ISN’T SO HEAVY.
Enjoy smooth paper-handling and end the
major cause of paper jams and misfeeds.
Automatic Skew Correction re-aligns any
skewed pages prior to scanning, while
Double Feed Detection prevents overfeeding
problems. The DR-5060F makes the scanning/filming process user-friendly to the
max—one-touch user-controls, programmable
function keys, and even the interface help
eliminate guesswork and reduce human
error. It’s enough to lighten everyone’s load.
HOW TO MAKE FOUR
FILE CABINETS FIT
INTO A 4-INCH SQUARE...
and other amazing feats
performed by the Canon DR-5060F.
Discover the benefits of storing 6,400 pages
of letter-sized documents or 16,500 checksized documents in a 4" x 4" x 1" space.
Providing a convenient microfilm depository
for electronically stored images and longterm data archives, the DR-5060F helps you
reduce storage costs to a mere $.0004 per
page, and reclaim up to 98% of traditional
storage space while freeing up day-to-day
electronic storage space. Best of all, the
DR-5060F helps you envision the future, one
with diminishing labor and operating costs.
EXTRA HELP FOR
THE “WAIT”-CONSCIOUS.
Spend less time processing information and
you’ll have more time to use it. Canon’s
DR-5060F makes it easy to activate Scanning,
Filming, simultaneous Film/Scan Modes, or
automatic two-sided Digital Scanning—with
one simple touch. Quickly create 16mm filmbased archives for long-term storage, and
digital files for on-line access from a wide
range of applications. A variety of convenient
indexing options are available to enhance
image-retrieval. So don’t wait a minute longer,
the Canon DR-5060F is finally here.
Canon’s DR-5060F is designed to work with
your office systems and satisfy your business
needs. Compatible with most software
applications, the DR-5060F comes bundled
with a Canon scanning utility as well as
ISIS™/TWAIN drivers, for Windows® 95/98/
2000 or Windows NT ® 4.0. The standard
SCSI interface allows simple connection
to leading controllers, while a variety of
hardware options lets you configure the
scanner with indexing capabilities for
enhanced productivity.

Canon Imprinter
Installed within the scanner, Canon’s Imprinter
option uses an ink-jet cartridge to print userspecified information on the front of a document
as it passes through the scanner, or electronically
imprinted on corresponding image data.
Bar Code Decoder
Convenient for simple record-keeping tasks, this
option enables the scanner to recognize bar-coded
areas on scanned pages, automatically creating
indexes for easy retrieval of individual files. Includes
scan settings for the following bar-code formats:
UPC, EAN/JAN, Codabar, Code39, Code128, and ITF.
Canon Endorser
OPTIONS
Fast and reliable endorsement
stamping is provided by the Canon
Endorser, easily installed on top
of the scanner. Compatible with a
variety of materials, from checks
to letter-sized documents, this
option prints dates or other
verification information on the
back of each sheet after scanning.
A movable stamp feature makes it
easy to position endorsements in
the proper place.
Patch Code Detector
Designed to reduce operator-intervention and
minimize user-error, the Patch Code Detector option
automatically separates files whenever a patch code
is detected. By sending a file separation signal
directly to a PC, or to both PC and Filmer in Backup
Mode, this option further optimizes high-speed
scanning and filming.
