Holy Week 2013
Our community experienced a wonderful Holy Week
this year. All the services and events were very well
attended. It was the best attended Holy Week of the
three that I have been here for.
Saturday of Lazarus turned out to be a beautiful day.
After Liturgy, everyone ate a breakfast that was donated by Ted’s Place Restaurant. There were plenty
of youth in attendance tying palms and adult volunteers preparing the Church for Palm Sunday. Reggie
Sellas & Chris Alevizos attended to many of the details we don’t think about that are so
necessary throughout Holy Week. They had the help of many volunteers as the week
progressed. Dena Lambropoulou had our readers well organized for all Holy week and
Lent. Katie Van Harten was very helpful filling in for Ann Rhodes for the week before
and during Holy Week. Thanks Katie!
The Palm Sunday Luncheon served about 200 people. Our parish council and other
volunteers arrived early that day to set up our courtyard. Penny Marutsos and Jimmy
served a delicious meal. Everybody enjoyed the food, fellowship and the weather.
During Holy Week, many Altar Boys served throughout the week. Christian Salamy
and Peter Kaffen did a great job as Head Altar boys. They have truly come into their
own as leaders in the Altar and I could not have served Holy Week without them.

On Holy Friday night, the Church was packed. The choir sounded beautiful and every- Thur 4th: Taco & Beer Booth Fundraiser

one loved joining them in the singing of the Lamentations. Fran Karnazes and The
Ladies Auxiliary group did a fantastic job decorating the Epitaphios. One of our families donated the flowers for the Epitaphios and the
new rug we have in front of the Altar table. We thank them for their generosity. Mia Domingot had all the Myrrh Bearers dressed and
ready to go that night. After services, 18 Goyans attended our Holy Friday night Lock-in. The teenagers acted out three different small
plays based on some of the parables read during Great Lent. I want to thank Sandy Rains, Antonios Tontisakis and Irene & John Basdakis for taking chaperone shifts that night and early morning. The kids all attended Saturday morning
Service and a few of them were readers.
We had a large crowd on Holy Saturday Morning. We were happy and surprised to see about 80 people come to the Liturgy. That evening, the Church was full and many stayed for Holy Communion and
the late night dinner after.
There are so many other volunteers that I did not mention, but we know who they are. We saw them all
week long offering their services because they love our Church. Thank your to all who helped and all
who attended. It was one of the best Holy Weeks I have experienced thus far as a priest.
God bless ! Rev. Fr. Bill Tragus
