SUMMARY
EPILEPSY WARNING
I – Precautions to take at all times when playing computer games
• Do not play if you are tired or lacking sleep.
• Always play in a well lit room, and ensure that the screen brightness level is not too high.
• If you are playing a game on a screen, play at a reasonable distance from the screen and as far
back from it as the connector cable will reach.
• While you are playing, ensure you take a 10-15 minute break every hour.
II – Epilepsy warning
Certain individuals have a condition which may cause them to experience epileptic fits and which
could also include loss of consciousness, particularly when exposed to certain types of strong light
stimuli, such as a rapid succession of images, repetition of simple geometrical shapes, flashes or
explosions. These individuals may experience fits while playing computer games containing such
visual stimuli even though they may have no previous medical history of such a condition or may
never have suffered an epileptic fit. If you or a member of your family have ever experienced symptoms linked to epilepsy (fits or loss of consciousness) in situations of strong light stimuli, please
consult your doctor before playing any computer games. Parents should also monitor their children closely when they are playing computer games. If you or your child show any symptoms of the
following: dizziness, disturbed vision, eye or muscle twitching, disorientation, involuntary movement, convulsions or blackouts, you should stop playing immediately and seek medical advice.

Y
IT ALL STARTED…
Saturday, 1st September, 1888: the papers are full of headlines concerning
an appalling news item. Last night, in the district of Whitechapel, the horribly
mutilated body of a woman was found lying in the gutter in Buck’s Row. The
newspapers contain reports of murdered women every day, but this killer's
methods are very different from the usual accounts. The throat has been slit,
the tongue lacerated, the abdomen and the genitals have been slashed. The
woman we are calling “Polly”, a lady of the night, appears to have suffered
the full onslaught of a maniac's frenzied attack.
This matter has not gone unnoticed at 221b Baker Street and, indeed, has
broken a certain monotony, as no case has aroused the interest of Sherlock
Holmes for some time. On reading the article, the famous detective decides to
go to Whitechapel police station to obtain the reports of the preliminary investigations by the police and the coroner. This is the starting point of an investigation which promises to be particularly sinister, because further and even
more grisly crimes will soon be committed. Accompanied by his faithful friend
Watson as always, Sherlock Holmes will have to be at the height of his
powers, demonstrating ingenuity, cunning and an icy calm to find out who is
responsible for these horrific crimes.

Sherlock Holmes conducts his enquiries by finding clues, but part of his
investigation is based on conversations with a variety of characters. He also
knows how to prompt the necessary exchanges with his interlocutors to
piece together all the information he requires.
All the dialogue is subtitled in the game and these exchanges will be
available in the dialogue file for you to consult at a later date.

You can combine certain objects to use them in a different way to help you

THE MURDER INVESTIGATION
In this gruesome murder investigation, the only way of conducting a successful enquiry is to collect clues, witness reports and documents and then
to analyse them.
Sherlock Holmes versus Jack the Ripper offers you an innovative system in
which you must arrive at the likely conclusions using your own deductions
based on the clues you have gathered. You should first collect all the clues
at the scene of the crime, either from the body itself or from the area around
the crime scene. Once you have collected all the clues, the deduction board
will appear on screen and you can access the deduction board at any time
using the deduction tab in the investigation menu.
A crime scene
Click on the image on the ground
to obtain more detailed clues.
The clues are displayed in the deduction board and you will be asked to
arrange them in a logical order to establish a link between them. You must
then choose between the various propositions to lead you to the final
conclusion.
If your logical deduction is correct, a green frame will appear around it.
To help you to solve these puzzles, you will be required to re-read some of
Sherlock Holmes's dialogue exchanges, reports and documents filed in the
investigation menus. These will prove invaluable in your quest to piece together the details drawn from logical and accurate deductions relating to each
murder.
The adventure is just beginning… over to you, my dear player!
