variety of products, the experts from KHS ensure ideal filling and packing processes. Regardless of whether competence in the beverage,
food, or non-food sector is required. Regardless
of whether your products are to be packaged in
bottles, jars, cans, pouches, or other containers
or packs.
The company KHS
The roots of KHS date back to the foundation in
1868 of Holstein & Kappert GmbH in Dortmund,
Germany. Today, KHS is a manufacturer of filling
and packing systems with one of the highest
levels of performance and sales worldwide and
with its approximately 4,000 employees working
in 14 production sites, KHS delivers complete
systems and attractive individual solutions to
130 countries around the globe. KHS is a partner you can rely on.
A company that understands the requirements
of customers and, based on long-standing
experience, offers the best prerequisites for
ensuring your market success for the future.
KHS subsidiary Bartelt is a pioneer for
pouch packaging
The historic roots of KHS for professional filling,
sealing, and packaging are in the U.S.A., where
pouches have been popular with consumers as
a convenient form of packaging since the 1940s.
The U.S. company Bartelt has been a wholly
owned subsidiary of KHS since 2003. It has decisively shaped this market right from the start
and is regarded as a synonym for horizontal
form-fill-seal machines for pouches. With more
than 2,900 machines built for customers from
the beverage, food and non-food industry, as
one of the leading suppliers KHS Bartelt now
has unique competence and experience with all
aspects of pouch packaging.
Competence transfer from the beverage
sector to stand-up pouches
Based on extensive experience and comprehensive beverage know-how in general and particularly in the ACF sector, KHS has the right competence for setting new standards in the
stand-up pouch sector. Examples are continuously operating fillers and sealers or pouches
with spouts for liquids where special aseptic
processes are required. KHS can build on its
comprehensive and leading know-how in the
ACF sector.
Pouches for the product trends of
the future
Times change – and so does packaging:
Particularly in Europe, the current trend
towards stand-up pouches has a profound impact on the packaging market.
The trend is away from conventional
packaging such as glass, plastic containers, and cans towards more environmentally friendly and lighter stand-up
pouches. This type of packaging has already reached a high level of consumer
acceptance and made a significant impact in the market, both in the beverage
sector and in the food and non-food sectors. Examples are single-serve beverages, snacks, personal care products and
pet treats. Stand-up pouches offer clear
advantages: Less packaging material, less
weight per pack, simple handling, effective and attractive product presentation
right up to the point of sale.

Innopouch K 220 FS
The Innopouch K 220 FS fill and seal machine from KHS for processing pre-made
pouches capable of sterilization is distinguished
by its modern design, extremely short changeover, and hygienic design. As with all KHS
pouching machines, it features a so-called
“walking beam“ a pouch gripping system where
the pouches are gripped once, permanently
held, and released only when they have been
completely filled and sealed. The Innopouch
K 220 FS is particularly suitable for filling liquid
products such as soups, sauces, ketchups, juices,
ready-to-eat meals, pre-cooked rice, and other
products of this nature.
Innopouch K 220 FFS
KHS has packed into the Innopouch K 220 FFS
form/fill/seal machine the experience gained
from 2,900 horizontal form/fill/seal machines
installed worldwide. Be it fin-seal or stand-up
pouches, with or without spouts. A machine
that is distinguished by modular design, extremely short changeover and hygienic design
and can be operated both in the so-called FFS
(form/fill/seal) mode as well as in FS mode – and
is thus also able to process ready-made pouches.
The Innopouch K 220 FFS is thus outstandingly
suitable for liquid products such as soups and
beverages, pasty products such as pie filling and
purees, and dry products such as instant soups
and powders.

THE RIGHT DOSE OF KNOW-HOW:
FOR FILLING FOOD AND NON-FOOD PRODUCTS
Dosing solutions from KHS
Based on years of experience with processing
a wide range of products, KHS offers various
volumetric metering systems that can handle
almost any product from the food and nonfood sectors. KHS has developed a variety of
augers with different diameters and different
gradients. We fully utilize our competence and
experience as a pioneer for realizing horizontal
flat and stand-up pouches. Our machines are
even able to compensate fluctuations in product
density on the fly through a feedback control
feature. This process uses a downstream check
weigher that feeds the required signals to the
machine and ensures automatic dosing variation
as required.
’ A
uger filler for powdered products
(e.g. dried soups, sugars, and sauce mixes)
’ Volumetric sliding gate filler
(e.g. for spices and croutons)
’ Volumetric cup filler for granulated and
small item products (e.g. nuts and cereals)
Special features of the KHS dosing
solutions
’ Stainless steel product contact parts
’ Servo technology
’Individual filling technology adapted
to the product
’ High flexibility

INNOVATIVE SOLUTION PACKAGE:
HORIZONTAL CARTONER FROM KHS
Quality products properly packed
The tried and tested Innopack F 2000 cartoners
from KHS can be used for fast, efficient and reliable packaging of pots, tubes, cans, trays, meal
trays, ball-point pens, muesli bars, aerosol cans,
plaster, greaseproof paper, bags, cake mixtures,
disposable razors, ink cartridges, sample bottles, pizzas, etc. The IMC/sm series machines are
able to process up to 200 cartons per minute
in intermittent mode. The CMC/sm series machines can pack up to 600 cartons per minute in
continuous mode. The horizontal stainless steel
cartoners from KHS are ideal for applications in
the food and pharmaceutical sectors. All machines are equipped with servo motors enabling
fast format changeover. Using servo technology eliminates the need for conventional components like cardan shafts, chains, and guides,
leaving the machines open at the bottom and
easy to clean.
We supply product transfers and handling systems in a wide range of designs to suit your
product. Bar transfer devices with 90° rotation
and grouping are available with performances
of between 500 and 1,000 bars per minute.
Drop gates, timing belts, overhead chains and
many combinations of such devices are just as
much a part of our standard repertoire as pickand-place handling.

Flexibility Right Down the Line:
Pouch System Solutions from KHS
Turnkey systems
KHS is one of the largest suppliers of turnkey
systems for the packaging industry worldwide. Almost all system components are manufactured and monitored in-house. KHS offers
extensive know-how covering receiving of the
source material – be it bottles, cans, canisters
or film reels – transport, filling, cartoning,
secondary packaging, and palletizing. KHS
ma-chines are manufactured at 14 production
locations according to standards laid down by
KHS AG Germany. The mechanical and electrical
design is based on the stringent requirements of
the parent company. Service, maintenance, and
spare-parts stocking are handled locally and in a
customer-oriented manner by local staff around
the world. Strategically organized competence
centers coordinate the implementation of custo-
mer requirements from all over the world, channel or group them and initiate relevant development steps. An experienced team of engineers
provides project-planning support for the implementation of complete lines. Implementation
commences once the customer has approved
the line layout. The advantage: Responsibility
for all individual components rests with a single
contact who acts as project manager and reliably coordinates all deadlines and ”construction sites“ for pouch filling. Be it pouches made
from rollstock or ready-made pouches, dry
products or liquids, aseptic or autoclaving, display or shipping cartons, robots, column-type or
layer palletizers: KHS offers everything from one
source, including an integrated control concept
and modem-based remote diagnostics.
The line concept
KHS supplies turnkey lines from one source,
including pouch fillers, cartoners, case erectors,
casers, and sealers, and Innopal palletizers. This
concept not only offers a very cost-effective
and safe filling and packaging process, it also
ensures that your products are positioned at the
point of sale in attractive, trend-oriented trays
and displays, encouraging consumers to buy
them. Talk to us about your individual requirements for the future.

Innovations on schedule:
with the professionals from KHS
In the stand-up pouches sector, where new
product innovations enter the market almost
continuously, the crucial factor for system
design is maximum flexibility with regard to
future requirements. KHS therefore focuses
particularly on the design phase. The first step
is to create a detailed requirements profile in
close consultation with the customer. Based on
this profile, KHS develops system solutions that
are just as state-of-the-art as the product trends
of our customers.
