Vividly brings out the essence of
the music residing in the details.
Audio professionals and music lovers are all alike: continuing in search of the new possibilities in technology
to deliver the reproduction of the artist’s vision with purity and details in playback of the recorded music. For
over 100 years, it has been the mission of Denon in fulfilling their journey. Whether it is a 1960’s record player
phono cartridge that is still popular today, the start of PCM digital recording in 1972, or UHC-MOS single pushpull circuits and ALPHA Processing today, Denon has been consistently in producing the audio components to
please the discriminating ears of the artists, recording engineers, and audiophiles for the past century.
DENON TECHNOLOGIES
CONTENTS
Ideal circuit using the UHC-MOS large current amplification element
Advanced AL 32 Processing
To achieve subtle expression with an amplifier
it is ideal for the configuration to be as simple
as possible. But to obtain large output with
a simple circuit requires an element that can
handle exceptionally large currents. Since the
development of the POA-S1, Denon has used
the UHC-MOS as the amplification element
to employ the ideal circuit configuration of a
large output amp using single push-pull. The
UHC-MOS possesses the same or higher
amplification ratio as a bipolar transistor and
In 1972, Denon was the first in the world to
develop a practical pulse-code modulation
(PCM) recording device. This digitalization
resolved many problems including noise, wow
and flutter, and frequency characteristics.
Compact disc sound, however, lost the subtle
sounds below LSB due to the bandwidth cut
of fs/2 or more from the 44.1 kHz sampling
during recording and the 16-bit quantization.
Denon took on the challenge of “reducing
the distortion caused by quantization” to
resolve this remaining digital audio issue and
developed Adaptive Line Pattern Harmonized
Algorithm (ALPHA) processing to reproduce
20-bit quality from 16-bit data, which became
cherished by listeners around the world.

with a single element can handle 35 times the
electrical current linearity as general MOSFET and 3 times that of a bipolar transistor.
Together with the ability to reproduce subtle
sound quality of MOS-FET, UHC-MOS can
also handle the complete range from the faint
tones in a violin solo to the huge reverberating
sound of a full orchestra.

In time this evolved into 24-bit quality AL24
Processing that supports high-bit and highsampling, and then into AL24 Processing
Plus that supports 192 kHz sampling. Further,
high-speed signal processing technology was
used to develop Advanced ALPHA Processing
to expand the volume of information in the
time axis. The number of bits also evolved
from the 24 to 32.

Eliminating unnecessary external vibrations
and the minute vibrations of the element
itself is indispensable for audio components
to produce high-quality sound. This can be
done by being very careful how the power
transformer, a source of vibration, is mounted
by increasing the number of plates used
to reinforce the mounting or employing a
floating mount that uses multiple damping
materials. The power transformer mounting
position can also be moved directly over
the foot to thoroughly suppress noise and
the transmission of unnecessary vibration
to achieve
clear sound
localization.

expands audio data to 32 bits and uses a
proprietary algorithm to interpolate the data
and perform up-conversion and sampling,
achieving a playback sound that is close to
the original source. In addition, the use of
algorithms ideal for frequency characteristics
outside the audible range to filter sudden
bursts of musical data or continuous sound
at high frequencies protects sound quality
from the adverse effects of aliasing noise
or drops in high-range response. The
Advanced AL32 Processor reproduces the
delicate nuances of music, as well as spatial
information such as the position of the artist
and the breadth, height, and depth of the
stage, in a more natural manner.

High-precision 192 kHz / 32-bit D/A converter
have been used to bring out the maximum
per formance of the Advanced AL32
Processor. The D/A converter transmits
dif ferential output to each channel to
improve sound quality during playback.
DAC Master Clock Design to achieve
accurate D/A conversion with minimal
time axis jitter
The vibration generated by high-speed
rotation during disc playback has been
reduced by shortening the shaft, and using
a long-life brushless motor. Misalignment
of the laser beam axis and the angle of the
turntable or pickup mechanism base affect
disc reading accuracy. To eliminate such
mechanical variations and ensure maximum
accuracy and playability in signal playback,
corrections have been made for each unit
individually. A new, vibration-absorbing
aluminium die cast disc tray has also been
adopted for the DCD-2020AE.
Play various types of digital content
in high sound quality
Employs a large-current UHC-MOS for
amplifier element to configure an ideal
circuit that is both a simple push-pull circuit
and one that is capable of high-power
output. The UHC-MOS in this amplifier
is of a new type that provides greater
current capacity and represents the heart
of the Advanced UHC-MOS Single PushPull Circuit that has vastly improved the
power amp block and power supply block
circuit configuration. The original sound is
now reproduced with a highly transparent,
realistic quality.

plate with high heat conductivity is added
between the UHC-MOS and the radiator to
improve heat dissipation, enhance stability
in amplifier element operation, and ensure
consistent reproduction of sound quality
from minute to very large signals.
6 independent block construction
Circuits with different signal levels have been
isolated into 6 independent blocks using
1.6 mm thick steel plates. This eliminates
the adverse ef fect on sound quality of
inter ference among blocks to achieve
playback with a clear sense of space.

Highly accurate Dual FET + Cascade

A new Dual FET has been adopted for the
input stage of the power amp. This featurerich Dual FET suppresses the adverse

contributing to stable operation. Also, since
a Cascade Bootstrap Circuit has been
employed in the first stage of the differential
amplifier circuit, superior amplification with
negligible misalignment in frequency phase
is now possible.

reproduction technology for reducing the
distor tion generated from quantization
has evolved into AL32 Processing. This
technology reproduces 32-bit qualit y
from the 16-bit signals recorded on CDs
by interpolating the input digital data to
approximate the analog waveform.
A high-precision 192 kHz / 32-bit D/A

utilization of the AL32 Processing. This
achieves natural reproduced sound with
less distortion.
