fuel heaters and to heat all types of cargo
such as bitumen, oil products and chemicals. Also tank washing systems, steam
generators and central heating systems are
typical fields of application.
In thermal fluid systems, the produced heat
is transferred to the ship’s heat consumers
by means of a transfer fluid, usually a mineral oil. Pumps circulate the fluid through
the closed system, passing the fuel oil fired
heaters and economizers.
The fluid remains in a liquid phase during
the entire process, enabling high temperatures with the lowest possible pressures.
The simplicity of our system and the noncorrosive nature of the oil makes this a very
reliable and low maintenance solution. Our
system is easy to operate and due to the
way we design the system, the thermal oil
has a long lifetime.

Scope of delivery
In addition to engineering and production of
the Alfa Laval thermal fluid heater units, which
we deliver complete with burner and control
system, Alfa Laval Aalborg supplies the following equipment:
Circulation pumps
Valves
Expansion tanks
Dump coolers
Tank cleaning heaters
Heat exchangers
Electric heaters
Unfired steam boilers
Spare parts
Safety and control systems
Alfa Laval Aalborg’s thermal fluid systems can
be supplied with an in-house developed PLCoperated control panel. Through the 12 inch
touch screen of this control panel, the operator
has a clear overview of the complete heating
system and its status. The different kinds of
field-bus connections for communi
cation
mean that connecting a second touch screen
and/or connecting the system to the central
alarm system is very simple.
Environment first
As an option, we offer our updated energy
management systems (EMS) to control and
monitor the temperature of the ship’s fuel
tanks and other heat consumers.
The EMS incorporates all heat consumers
and compares the available heat in the system
with the actual requirement of the consumers,
ensuring the most efficient use of the heat
energy, reducing the need of supplementary
firing of the oil-fired heater and thus reducing
emissions to a minimum.
To ensure the safe and reliable operation of
the plant and in order to offer a user-friendly
system for the operators, Alfa Laval Aalborg
has developed our own safety and control
systems.
Based on limited key data, a proposal
for a complete thermal fluid heating
system can be worked out within a
short time.

Heat exchangers
A variety of heat exchangers for a wide range
of applications can be supplied. Alfa Laval

Research & Development
Our thermal fluid systems feature the latest
technological advances.
New system solutions are developed by
our R&D engineers applying innovative
technology. We strive to develop products
that are environmentally friendly, have a
long life cycle and offer a low total cost of
ownership.
Engineering and manufacturing
The development of new products and
system designs takes place at Alfa Laval
Aalborg’s thermal fluid systems product
centre in the Netherlands.
Even though detailed engineering naturally
requires due process, quotations for entire
thermal fluid systems can be worked out
in a very short time due to the company’s
advanced engineering and calculation
programs.
Manufacturing of our products such as the
Aalborg TFO heaters takes place at Alfa
Laval Aalborg’s ISO 9001:2000 certified
factories in Denmark as well as at selected,
high quality manufacturers in Europe.
Quality control
All Alfa Laval Aalborg’s factories and supp
liers are subject to the strict quality code of
ISO 9001. All products and accessories
meet the highest standards.
Global after sales network offering
