Proudly Sponsored by
CHAIRPERSON’S ADDRESS
As Chairperson of Ahane GAA Club, I would like to take this opportunity
to extend a sincere welcome to everyone in support of our Strictly
Come Dancing night here in the South Court Hotel. This event is the
culmination of tremendously hard work on behalf of the organising
committee. I would like to thank everyone who has supported tonight’s
event, particularly those who have sponsored the dancers tonight to
enable us to bring about this tremendous social and sporting occasion.
I would like to pay tribute to all players and members of the club for their
contribution to the club during the year.
Our main sponsor Bob Sweeney Auto Towing provides generous
sponsorship for this event and I would also like to extend a sincere
thank you to Bob Sweeney for his support to the club in general throughout the year. You will
get an opportunity to see Bob’s dancing prowess as well tonight!
As you can see from the programme, the support of the many advertisers is crucial to the
success of tonight and I thank them for their contribution and support to the club. I would urge
all patrons here tonight to support these businesses and individuals now and into the future.
Events such as tonight are a crucial part of our fundraising endeavours on an annual basis
and are critical in ensuring the continued viability of the club. This year we aim to achieve
the realisation of plans for the further development of the club infrastructure, which will see
the construction of new dressing rooms, gymnasium, wall ball and other ancillary works.
Such developments could not happen without the continued support of many businesses who
continue to support fund raising activities such as this and the people of the parish and beyond
who support our Lotto each year.
Organising a night such as this requires a massive commitment and voluntary effort by
numerous people. I extend a special thank you to my colleagues on the organising committee,
senior committee, Bord na nOg, players and everyone who assisted in selling tickets, contacting
advertisers and all who assisted in making this night a success.
A special word of thanks to all 26 of our dancers, who committed themselves to many nights of
training over the past couple of months under the tutorship of Bridget Harte and her team. The
level of commitment by all concerned goes beyond words. I am sure that those in attendance
tonight will appreciate the commitment of all our participants as they perform an array of
dance routines.
Thank you also to the Staff of the South Court Hotel for the use of their facilities and to Davis
Printing for the design and printing of this programme, tickets and promotional material.
Finally, I hope you all have a wonderful night’s entertainment and wish all of the dancers the
best of luck as they go through their routines tonight.
Is mise le meas.

RICHIE CLIFFORD
OLLIE MORAN
For those of you
who don’t know him,
the name is Ritchie
Clifford, Ireland’s Mr.
Motivator. When you
say to yourself you
need motivation then
look no further, he’s
right here!!! Richie is a
big believer in not waiting for life to happen,
go chase the dream. He has been dancing
with his wife for over thirty years and
they will dance just about anywhere and
everywhere. Life may not be as you hoped
but my God while your here, dance.....just
dance.
Ollie was born in 1975.
He is now married
to Lisa and has two
children, David (6) and
Aoife (4). He is the
owner of Ollie Moran
Financial Services
which has been in
existence since 2008,
specialising in Independent Financial
Advice. Ollie has played both hurling and
football with Ahane since 1985 and won
3 County Senior Hurling Championships
dating back to the last century! He
continues to tog out for sanity purposes.
His biggest concern tonight is whether little
brother Niall can turn quicker on the dance
floor than he does on the hurling field!
DAVE O’HORA
NICOLE SWEENEY
Born - Regional
Maternity.
Director -Southern,
Marketing, Media,
Design.
Lives - Castleconnell.
Dave is a keen
sportsman and
played underage hurling, soccer, football,
rugby and basketball (until he was 23).
He attended dance classes in the Stella
Ballroom, Jetland and Teds and was a
member of the audience of Riverdance in
the University of Limerick! Nicole began dancing
as the age of 3. She has
taken classes over the
years in styles such
as Ballet, Show, Irish,
Freestyle, hip hop and
gymnastics. Nicole held
competitive titles such
as All Ireland, British
and European Champion. Her professional
career began in 2012 after passing her
teaching exams. She is now a dance
teacher to over 120 kids and opened her
own studio in 2014.

OWEN GILHOOLY
EMMA FOOTE
BRIAN O’MARA
LARRY O’ CONNOR
Owen Gilhooly studied
with Jean Holmes
in Limerick and
subsequently at the
Royal College of Music
and the National Opera
Studio. As a baritone
his career took him
from the Royal Opera
House, Covent Garden
to Symphony Hall,
Tokyo. He represented
Ireland at BBC Cardiff
Singer of the World
2007. Now singing as
a Tenor, he is currently
pursuing Doctoral
studies at the RIAM
where he was recently
appointed to the Vocal
Faculty. Owen is the
Director of the MidWest Vocal Academy
and Music School in Co
Limerick.
As Marketing Manager
of University Concert
Hall, Emma is used to
a more “behind the
scenes” role when it
comes to live events
like this! Originally
from Parteen, she has
lived in Newgarden
for the past six years
having married Sean
(Seanie!) O’Connor.
She has thoroughly
enjoyed being part of
the “Ahane Strictly”
committee and has
huge admiration for the
work and dedication
shown by the dancers
and organisers of
tonight’s event!
Brian O’Mara has been
involved with Ahane
GAA Club for a number
of years now and is
currently Chairman
of our Bórd na nÓg
club. Brian is married
to Mary and lives in
Ballyvarra with their
four children, Ciarán,
Róisín, Liam and Cathal
all of whom are active
playing members in
Ahane GAA and Camogie
clubs. Best known for
his table quizzes (better
than Noel Fox’s), poetry
(Feile Lumní Bronze
Medal), stand-up comedy
(Paddy the Plasterer)
and medal counting (Up
Claughaun!), tonight
Brian will be looking
after all the dancers in
the Green Room before
you get to see them. ‘ I’m
really looking forward to
the evening and being
part of what should be
a fantastic show’ says
Brian. Larry O’ Connor has been
involved with Ahane
GAA Club for many
years (will not say how
many, as that will give
an indication of age!).
He is currently ViceChairman of the Club.
Larry is married to Diane
and lives in Ballyvarra
with both their children
Laura and Paul having
now ‘left the nest’! Over
many years since retiring
from the playing field he
has provided ‘first aid’
for many teams in the
club and principally the
Senior team (so that’s
where I’ve seen him
you’ll say!). Here’s hoping
that none of the dancers
are in need of assistance
tonight! He had given
serious consideration to
applying for a dancing
role in tonight’s event,
but was told that “other
duties” awaited and
anyway the audition
process was extremely
tough! Looking forward to
a great evenings dancing
and entertainment and
best of luck to all the
committed dancers in
tonight’s show.

DANCE
Charleston
“A dance named for the harbor city of Charleston, South Carolina. The rhythm was popularized in mainstream dance music in the United States by a 1923 tune called “The Charleston”
which originated in the Broadway show Runnin’ Wild and became one of the most popular
hits of the decade.”
JENNIFER HOURIGAN
TONY DELAHUNTY
Jennifer has spent the last five years
teaching in Dublin and has moved home just
in time to teach ‘The King of the Swingers’ a
thing or two! Although her claim to Ahane
fame is winning an All Ireland Scór title in
figure dancing, she credits her best dance
moves to her many nights spent on the
Copper Face Jacks’ dance floor!
Tony lives in The Forge, Ahane, is married to
the beautiful Dorothea and has a four year
old son, Oscar. He has been away from his
family for the past six months in training for
his dance, spending most of his time in the
forest of Rwanda with gorillas in the mist …
or knowing Tony with Gorillas on the p...ss.

DANCE
The Jitterbug
“The jitterbug is a kind of dance popularized in the United States in the early twentieth
century and is associated with various types of swing dances such as the Lindy Hop, jive,
and East Coast Swing. World War II facilitated the spread of jitterbug across the Pacific and
the Atlantic Oceans.”
JOANNE GILL
DECLAN GILL
Joanne hasn’t danced sober with her
current husband as much in their 17 years
of knowing each other, as she has in the last
6 weeks! But after a week’s warm weather
training in Portugal she is confident they
will both rise to the occasion tonight. Shane
and Riain will be following developments
with interest at home and will be the first to
start the slagging in the case of a wardrobe
malfunction or any other disaster!
Declan is unbeaten here at the South Court
after winning the Heavyweight Boxing
Championship of Castleconnell in this very
same room back in 2012. He is very excited
to return 3 years later, not as a fighter, but as
a lover /dancer with his current wife Joanne.
Declan also says he is offering up the whole
experience for all the brilliant Ahane U6
Hurlers who he helps train every Tuesday!

Crèche in the heart of Castleconnell village.
She is married to Terry and has three
wonderful children Jamie, Ellie and Emily.
Anne was thrilled to be asked to dance

pitter-patter of little feet not big ones! She
has been blown away by the support and
encouragement from her family, friends and
all at Sunny Lane.

team. Hobbies (for whatever time that’s left!)
include reading, listening to music and being

has represented Ahane GAA club in the
Scor’s Rince Foirne and is excited (and a
little terrified) to attempt a new dancing
style tonight. With “Dance Like No-One
Knows You” as a motto, we think we’re in for
a treat. And we’re sure “The Boss” has Tom
in line for a super performance!
Tom “dancin dancin” Doheny has been
playing hurling with Ahane all his life.
Tom went to school in Castletoy College
and to College in W.I.T. It has been said
that during his time in Waterford, he has
been seen displaying dance moves in
the famous “Foundry” nightclub that had
many wondering why he was not attending
Michael Flately’s school of dance! Tom is
now working in McHale plant sales. He
has prepared for tonight by reading many
dance novels, watching and learning moves
from movies such as “Dirty Dancing” and
“ Grease” and also taking long walks on
a sunset beach to get motivated as they
say. He has also perfected his moves on
Saturday evenings, “Tangoing” his way
from the bar to the dance floor in his local
cub “The Icon”.

TRACY SKEHAN
ALLAN ROBERTSON
Married to Kevin, Tracy has two kids,
Caoimhe and Nicky. She works occasionally
at Whisps Hair Salon in the beautiful village
of Castleconnell.....who incidentally are
up 6 points this year in the tidy towns!
Eventhough Tracy now lives in Monaleen,
she likes to support Ahane whenever she
can. OMG when Kevin saw the fishnets on
the bed he thought all his Christmas’ and
birthdays had come together -but sadly they
were only for the dancing! {wink}
Tracy’s claim to fame is that she saw Joe
Dolan & Sean O’Dowd Live In Concert!
Allan has been dancing since the age of
5 (well inside his head, he has). Brought
up in the urban suburbs of “No Mean
City” Glasgow, dancing was not the done
thing. Pushed into engineering to get a
“proper” job, he eventually found his way to
Castleconnell and Vistakon. He shares his
life with his four beautiful girls; wife Angela;
daughters Abbey, Hannah and Emma. Life
is perfect but…. Inside??? Tonight is his
chance to SHINE.

DANCE
Cha Cha
“Also called the Cha Cha Cha, this unmistakable dance originated in Cuba in the 1940s,
developed by violinist Enrique Jorrin as a variant of the Mambo and Rumba. The name
is onomatopoeic, derived from the shuffling of the dancers’ feet.”
CLAIRE TIERNEY
PADDY MORRISSEY
Teacher extraordinaire!! As seen in Lisnagry
and Ahane N.S. over the years. She may be
better known for her dainty Irish dancing feet
representing Ahane G.A.A. Scór teams and
once danced in an under 15 Scór na nÓg county
final....aged 18!! The best thing about Strictly for
Claire has been meeting all the other dancers
and learning a few new moves that she will be
displaying in d’Icon for years to come.
At 19 Paddy is the youngest dancer on
show tonight, but is well known as one of
the rising, hurling talents in the club. Paddy
has been a member of the Ahane Senior
and U21 teams for the last three years and
also played a massive part in the Minor’s
County Final success in 2014, captaining the
side to claim the club’s first title at the grade
since 1991. Last month Paddy added to his
medal collection as part of the Limerick
U21 panel that triumphed over Wexford in
the All-Ireland final. Now he is putting his
name on the line with regard to his dancing
prowess, but having gained huge respect on
the dance floor in Angel Lane on Tuesday,
Thursday and Saturday nights, we have
full confidence in him bringing his highly
admired moves to the South Court tonight!

DANCE
Mambo
“The Mambo dance originated in Cuba where there were substantial settlements of Haitians
and in Haiti, the “Mambo” is a voodoo priestess! A fusion of Swing and Cuban rhythms,
this dance style is attributed to Perez Prado who introduced it at La Tropicana night-club in
Havana in 1943.”
CARITA CONWAY
NIALL MORAN
Carita the youngest of six children completed
a Law degree from NUIG before taking a
year out to travel Australia. She is usually
seen competing on a show jumping field but
tonight she has chosen to forfeit four legs for
her own two to take to the floor!! She likes
to think she inherits her dancing skills from
her parents Tess and Dick who were once
crowned Munster Ballroom Champions!
(However, the verdict is still out on this one!)
Dance partner Carita has a better chance
of getting her horses in step than Niall
according
to
seasoned
observers.
Renowned for his hurling, it is hoped that
surely he can’t be as bad at dancing!!
Finding the time to milk his cows and
practice his moves at the same time meant
he really was “Dirty Dancing”. Claims of his
imminent departure to Riverdance, in a large
money transfer have been rebuted, as have
claims that Haugh and George are offering
discounts to all customers who vote for
them on the night!!

Niamh Frawley & Bobby Sweeney
DANCE
Foxtrot
“Premiered in 1914, husband and wife duo Vernon and Irene Castle, are credited with lending
this dance its signature grace and style. Supposedly named after vaudeville actor Harry Fox,
the Foxtrot reached the height of its popularity in the 1930s and is usually danced to big band
music.”
NIAMH FRAWLEY
BOBBY SWEENEY
Married to Dave, Mum to Aisling and Cathal,
ex-managing director, ex-dancer, ex-golfer
and due to her lack of presence at home
over the last month…almost an ex-wife!
Niamh, who is a business manager, has
a deep love of Irish traditional music song
and dance, the odd gin and tonic and a
challenge. Hence her thorough enjoyment
of Strictly Come Dancing!
A local employer, Bob’s main passion is his
work and golfing. He owns a local scrap
business. However don’t be fooled by his
love of scrap, striking balls and scoring
birdies! Tonight he intends to hit a hole in
one, reaching the top of his dancing ability
and not the top of the scrap heap!

OCTOBER 2015
Grace Kenny & Richie Ryan
DANCE
Salsa
“This dance style originated in Cuba and because of the social and political pressures and
restraints enforced there in the 30’s, it quickly transferred to the U.S.A. where the term
“Salsa” went on to be created in New York.”
GRACE KENNY
RICHIE RYAN
Grace is a teacher in Ahane N.S. and when
she realised that some of the kids were
better dancers than her she decided it was
time to take action and join Ahane Strictly.
Soon to be married to none other than her
dance partner Richie Ryan, it seems the
preparation for tonight’s event may just
come in handy for the big day!
Richie is the principal of Castleconnell
N.S. but he is a Newport man through and
through. Richie is hoping that some of his
quick footwork on the hurling field will be
transferable to the dance floor tonight. It
made a change for the teacher to be the
pupil but Richie soon adapted to taking
orders. Gold stars all round!

Geraldine McInerney & Matt Byrnes
DANCE
Waltz
“Shocking many when it was first introduced, the Waltz became fashionable in Vienna in
the 1780s. It became fashionable in Britain during the Regency period, having been made
respectable by the endorsement of the wife of the Russian ambassador. According to
diarist Thomas Raikes “No event ever produced so great a sensation in English society as the
introduction of the waltz.”
GERALDINE MCINERNEY
MATT BYRNES
Geraldine works for Daughters of Charity,
Lisnagry. Her hobbies are reading and
walking. Her biggest joy this year was the
birth of her first grandchild, Isabelle. The
thing she enjoyed most about Strictly, apart
from the dancing, was the good fun they
all had as a group. She reckons you all
never thought you would see a Tipp woman
dancing for a Limerick club!
Matt is the owner of MBS Eng, Ballina, Co
Tipperary. He studied dance from the age
of 15 in the school of jive at Castleconnell
Parochial hall. From there he graduated
with honours to the Academy of Country
and Western and hard knocks in The Oyster
Ballroom Dromkeen where the people’s
favourite dance was the Row half set where
band and all took part. One to watch!

Breda Murphy & Michael Feeney
DANCE
Jazz/Charleston
“A dance named for the harbor city of Charleston, South Carolina. The rhythm was popularized in mainstream dance music in the United States by a 1923 tune called “The Charleston”
which originated in the Broadway show Runnin’ Wild and became one of the most popular
hits of the decade.”
BREDA MURPHY
MICHAEL FEENEY
Always cheerful, Breda provides information
with a smile in the Library at the University of
Limerick. Breda likes walking, reading, fine
dining and the “occasional” glass of wine (as long as it’s not Chardonnay!) . Originally
an Oola girl, Breda is used to training
greyhounds and has applied this expertise
to her Strictly Partner - expect some unique
moves tonight!
Michael, our Lisnagry Príomhoide hails from
Ballinrobe and is a proud Mayo man through
and through. With over 300 pupils to manage
and two smallies of his own, Michael is used
to being kept on his toes!! His dance partner
Breda better watch her timing or there
could be extra homework! He has a passion
for sport and the outdoors too and would
happily swap his dancing shoes for a pair of
football boots tonight!

do to be able to pass on the knowledge to others in an enjoyable and relaxed way and choreographer Bridget Harte
certainly loves to dance! A member of the All Ireland Board
of Ballroom Dancing Teachers, she has over forty years’
experience of dancing and teaching. She has travelled the
world to train in the countries of origin e.g. learning the Argentine Tango in Buenos Aires and the Salsa in Cuba. In the past 18 months, she has successfully completed 14 Finals, with the help of her team, assisting clubs in Limerick, Clare, Cork and
Tipperary to fundraise.
