Tha info relation and illustrations contained in this report
war© compiled from a great variety of sources.
In general, the
official German publications nCrd«n und llirenzeichen11, "AllgamGine
H®«re3mitt«ilungsnrt, Hcoro3v»rordnungsblltt«rM, and "LuiftwaffeVererdnungsblatter" irare used as prihiary sources,
However, other
o f f i c i a l , 3<wni-offioial and unofficial German publications, such
as training manuals, periodicals, catalogues, news pap era, ©tc.
contributed a wealth of material.
Some fsw of the illustrations
wore taken from the H«iar Office Weekly Intelligence Review". Cap
tured medals and photographs wcr* also oi' inestimable value in
clearing up many doubtful points.
The volumes* of the German
"Meyers Lcxikon" were- combed for soryly-needod information on the
"Medals of Historical Intarost" section of th© report.
I t w&.s found rather difficult to group this miac«llany of
medals -with some sembLinca of logic, inaamnch as rr^n^ of them would
readily f i t into mortt tlian one category.
The report i3 divided into the following tvro parts:
Part 1. Tho text presents in detail a l l the portirnsnt
informa-tion available on G-erraun decorations.
This
pert i s divided into tm> sections, numbered from A to J*
Part 2. The photographic r« pro ductiona of the decorations
l i s t e d and described in Part 1.
This part consists of
photographic plates of i l l u s t r a t i o n s , numbered from I to
XXVII.
The illustrations are numbered fron 1 to 214,
and th«ss numerals correspond with these found in th* text,
thus providing a. handy croGS-r«f©r«nce.
