Scouting opportunity for Catholic Boys

Getting to know Deacon Derek Twilliger:
I was born on Oct. 24, 1970 in South Carolina. I
am the son of Wayne and
Twilliger of Vista,

Glenn and a younger sister,
Nichole. They have blessed
me with eight wonderful nieces and nephews. During the early part of my life my father was in the
Marine Corps, so it was spent living many different
places. The family finally settled in Vista, where
I spent my Junior High and High School years.
Since then, I have spent many years in youth ministry and catechetical ministry, and served as an
Extraordinary Minister of Communion at my home
parish of St. Mary in Escondido.
Prior to entering the seminary I spent the last
ten years working for Home Depot as an Inventory Manager and Purchasing Agent. I entered the
program for priestly formation in 2010. I spent
two years completing my studies in Philosophy at
University of San Diego before starting my graduate theology studies at Mount Angel Seminary
in Oregon. On June 19, 2015 I was ordained a
transitional Deacon. I will return to Mount Angel
Seminary for my fourth and final year of seminary
in August.
I am looking forward to being ordained a priest in
the Spring of 2016.

With you is the source of life
Take thought now, redeemed man, and consider
how great and worthy is he who hangs on the cross for
you. His death brings the dead to life, but at his passing
heaven and earth are plunged into mourning and hard
rocks are split asunder.
It was a divine decree that permitted one of the
soldiers to open his sacred side with a lance. This was
done so that the Church might be formed from the side
of Christ as he slept the sleep of death on the cross, and
so that the Scripture might be fulfilled: ‘They shall look
on him whom they pierced’. The blood and water which
poured out at that moment were the price of our salvation. Flowing from the secret abyss of our Lord’s heart
as from a fountain, this stream gave the sacraments of
the Church the power to confer the life of grace, while
for those already living in Christ it became a spring of
living water welling up to life everlasting.
Arise, then, beloved of Christ! Imitate the dove
‘that nests in a hole in the cliff’, keeping watch at the
entrance ‘like the sparrow that finds a home’. There
like the turtledove hide your little ones, the fruit of your
chaste love. Press your lips to the fountain, ‘draw water
from the wells of your Saviour; for this is the spring
flowing out of the middle of paradise, dividing into four
rivers’, inundating devout hearts, watering the whole
earth and making it fertile.
Run with eager desire to this source of life and
light, all you who are vowed to God’s service. Come,
whoever you may be, and cry out to him with all the
strength of your heart. “O indescribable beauty of the
most high God and purest radiance of eternal light! Life
that gives all life, light that is the source of every other
light, preserving in everlasting splendour the myriad
flames that have shone before the throne of your divinity from the dawn of time! Eternal and inaccessible
fountain, clear and sweet stream flowing from a hidden
spring, unseen by mortal eye! None can fathom your
depths nor survey your boundaries, none can measure
your breadth, nothing can sully your purity. From you
flows ‘the river which gladdens the city of God’ and
makes us cry out with joy and thanksgiving in hymns of
praise to you, for we know by our own experience that
‘with you is the source of life, and in your light we see
light’.

Conociendo a Diacono Derek Twilliger
Nací el 24 de Octubre de 1970 en Carolina
del Sur. Mis padres son
Wayne y Sharon TwilDel escritorio liger de Vista, CA. Tengo
del Párroco
un hermano mayor
Glenn y mi hermana
menor que yo Nichole. Ellos me han bendecido con
8 hermosos sobrinos y sobrinas.
Durante mi temprana edad mi padre estaba
ofreciendo su servicio militar en Marine Corps, por
lo cual vivíamos en diferentes lugares. Finalmente
mi familia se estableció en Vista, CA. donde pasé
mis años de Secundaria y Preparatoria. Luego pasé
varios años como Coordinador de Grupo de Jóvenes
y serví como Ministro Extraordinario de Comunión
en mi propia parroquia de Sta. María de Escondido.
Antes de entrar al seminario, pasé los últimos
diez años trabajando en la tienda Home Depot como
Manejador de inventario y Agente de Compras.
Ingresé al programa de formación para el sacerdocio
el año 2010. Pasé 2 años cumpliendo mis estudios
de Filosofía en la Universidad de San Diego antes
de comenzar mis estudios de Teología en el Seminario Mount Angel en el estado de Oregon.
En Junio 19, 2015 fui ordenado Diácono
transicional. En Agosto regresaré al Seminario
Mount Angel para cumplir mi cuarto y final año de
seminarista. Espero anciosamente y con alegría el
ser ordenado como sacerdote durante la Primavera
de 2016.

Y tú, hombre redimido, considera quién, cuál y
cuán grande es éste que está pendiente de la cruz por ti.
Su muerte resucita a los muertos, su tránsito lo lloran los
cielos y la tierra, y las mismas piedras, como movidas de
compasión natural, se quebrantan. ¡Oh corazón humano,
más duro eres que ellas, si con el recuerdo de tal víctima
ni el temor te espanta, ni la compasión te mueve, ni la
compunción te aflige, ni la piedad te ablanda!
Para que del costado de Cristo dormido en la cruz
se formase la Iglesia y se cumpliese la Escritura que dice:
Mirarán al que atravesaron, uno de los soldados lo hirió
con una lanza y le abrió el costado. Y fue permisión de
la divina providencia, a fin de que, brotando de la herida
sangre y agua, se derramase el precio de nuestra salud, el
cual, manando de la fuente arcana del corazón, diese a
los sacramentos de la Iglesia la virtud de conferir la vida
de la gracia, y fuese para los que viven en Cristo como
una copa llenada en la fuente viva, que salta hasta la vida
eterna.
Levántate, pues, alma amiga de Cristo, y sé la
paloma que anida en la pared de una cueva; sé el gorrión
que ha encontrado una casa y no deja de guardarla; sé
la tórtola que esconde los polluelos de su casto amor en
aquella abertura sacratísima. Aplica a ella tus labios para
que bebas el agua de las fuentes del Salvador.Porque ésta
es la fuente que mana en medio del paraíso y, dividida
en cuatro ríos que se derraman en los corazones amantes,
riega y fecunda toda la tierra.
Corre, con vivo deseo, a esta fuente de vida y de
luz, quienquiera que seas, ¡oh alma amante de Dios!, y
con toda la fuerza del corazón exclama:
«¡Oh hermosura inefable del Dios altísimo, resp
landor purísimo de la eterna luz! ¡Vida que vivificas toda
vida y luz que iluminas toda luz y conservas en perpetuo
resplandor millares de luces, que desde la primera aurora
fulguran ante el trono de tu divinidad!
¡Oh eterno e inaccesible, claro y dulce manantial de la
fuente oculta a los ojos mortales, cuya profundidad es sin
fondo, cuya altura es sin término, su anchura ilimitada y
su pureza imperturbable!
De ti procede el río que alegra la ciudad de Dios,
para que, con voz de regocijo y gratitud, te cantemos himnos de alabanza, probando por experiencia que en ti está
la fuente viva, y tu luz nos hace ver la luz.
