Roy Abarbanel, PT Certified in Orthopedic
Manual Therapy, Personal Fitness Trainer
In Roy Abarbanel’s 25 years of physical therapy practice, he
has learned that all cells of the human body have awareness and
communicate with each other. Physical therapy accesses the body’s
healing mechanisms by initiating the flow of bio-energy to bring
the body back into harmony. Myofascial Release, Unwinding and
Rebounding, and skilled Joint Mobilization are used to create a
sense of well-being and control. Roy uses his manual skills and
the magic of touch to “talk” to the patient’s body. A healing dialog
is developed between patient and therapist. Intuition and pain-free
movements are used to access the body’s “deeper wisdom.” From
this point, the body finds its way back to optimal health as traumas
are released and injuries are resolved. Initial consultations are free, and Roy will come to your
home to provide therapy once a care plan is agreed upon.

Janis David, Dance With Qi,
Your Pathway to Pleasure. Founder/
Director/Instructor/Choreographer/Performer
After Belly Dancing for over 35 years, Janis David developed her own style of dance called Dance with Qi,
adding breath work and QiGong movements to her Belly
Dancing. The arts of Belly Dancing and QiGong are both
over 5,000 years old! QiGong is the foundation for all
martial arts (Tai Chi, Kung Fu, etc.). Belly Dancing was
used as prenatal care in the Middle East as well as for
ceremonies and celebrations. Qi means our life energy
and breath, and Gong means work applied to a discipline
or the development of a skill. With each deep breath we stimulate our lymphatic
system, the foundation for our capacity to release toxins. QiGong stimulates blood
flow and circulation. The basic stance is similar to both forms of movement and
correct posture is essential for both. This new dance theory, Dance With Qi, can
be described as holding a moment in space while dancing, feeling the breath as we
dance and using the energy that surrounds us. Imagine being in the “now” of things,
filled with joy, breathing deeply, and using the energy around you to move effortlessly, spreading endorphins throughout your body. Yes, yes, yes!
In 2013 Janis released her first beginning Belly Dance instructional dvd: Ageless Belly
Dancing. This dvd was created to empower women of all ages, shapes, and sizes to
feel their best about themselves and their bodies, and is currently being used in the
U.S., Ireland, Japan, and Germany. Dance With Qi offers private, semi-private, and
group lessons for Belly Dance and/or QiGong. We’re available for retreats, seminars,
birthday parties, bridal showers, and in schools and special programs for children.
Share the gift of movement—gift certificates available. Please see ad, page 76.

Daryl Dempsey
Certified Jin Shin Jyutsu Practitioner and teacher of selfhelp classes. Member Fla. Green Guide Association.
Jin Shin Jyutsu Physio-Philosophy is an ancient art of harmonizing life energy in the body. By bringing balance to the energy
body, it promotes optimal health and well-being for where we are
now. It’s a valuable complement to conventional healing methods
and an effective way towards well-being, inducing relaxation, and
reducing the effects of stress, which facilitates our bodies’ own
profound healing capacity. Sessions generally last an hour. Clients lie face up on a massage table fully clothed. As Daryl gently
places her hands and fingertips under and on certain points on the
body she focuses on harmony and holds the space for the body to
remember its vitality and wholeness. As a Certified Green Guide,
Daryl also offers resources and connections for exploring Wakulla and Franklin Counties.

Integrative Primary Care Practice
Are you interested in a different approach to health
care, one that really works? Here at The Medical
Healing Center we view the human body as a whole
body, mind, and spirit and as an energy-driven,
energy-sensitive system that interacts constantly
with an ever changing environment. We offer a
holistic functional approach to healing provided
through integrative medicine. We shift the principle
treatment focus away from symptoms to evaluating
immunopathologies, functional imbalances, vitamin
and nutritional deficiencies, genetic predispositions,
toxic exposures, detox pathologies, the body terrain,
and any occurring pathogenicities. We also evaluate
emotional traumas, brain imbalances, and energetic
imbalances. Throughout this healing process, the
spiritual realm of the body is supported. When these
are corrected the body begins to function optimally
to relieve symptoms and restore health. We offer
the following services to assist in evaluation and
treatment:
• Chelation is used for heavy metal toxicity which
is an underlying cause of decreasing health in our
society. We use several chelators: EDTA, DMPS, and
DMSA.
• QXCI/SCIO assists health practitioners to find energetic imbalances and health issues occurring in humans
and animals. Our biofeedback therapist is also trained
to correct geopathic stress in land and houses.

Certified Master Clinical Hypnotherapist
Diplomate, International Academy of Medical Acupuncture
Member, American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, International Medical
Dental Hypnotherapy Association, American Hypnosis Association,
Capital Medical Society, Florida Medical Association, and
Association of Comprehensive Energy Psychology
Dr. Burt Price is an older physician who has moved from conventional medicine
to alternative medicine. He has a long-time interest in psychosomatic medicine,
hypnosis, and acupuncture. He believes that most medical/emotional conditions
are related to or caused by the mind. Dr. Price focuses on the interaction between
mind and body and the compelling ways that emotional, mental, and spiritual
factors directly affect physical health. He feels that the subconscious has more
influence on all disease states than realized. The mind and body are intimately
related, the body being a barometer of the mind and vice-versa.
Dr. Price has spent the past 14 years developing his current treatment models
which include multimodal hypnosis with elements from NLP, Psychodynamics,
cognitive hypnotherapy, Neuro-semantics, and EFT. He also does acupuncture,
which he frequently combines with the multimodal hypnosis for an improved
overall response. Dr. Price believes that acupuncture and the chakras are closely
related, and he often incorporates chakra points in treatment. He offers “essence”
programs. He also treats Tension Myositis Syndrome that is responsible for various
painful conditions such as fibromyalgia and autonomic disease related conditions.

Harmonic healing frequencies have the power to heal our deepest
wounds, ignite our spirit, change consciousness, and re-unite us with

calibrated tuning forks, representing the orbital frequencies of
the Earth, Moon, Sun, planets, and asteroids, are applied directly
to acupuncture points, trigger points, points of pain, and chakras.

Glossary of holistic health terms
Active Isolated Stretching is a specific protocol for stretching the muscles in a
contiguous order with short duration and multiple repetitions to inhibit the stretch
reflex mechanism.
Acupuncture regulates the flow of the vital energy, or ch’i, to restore balance of
body, mind, and spirit. Specific points along energy channels—the body’s vital
pathways—relate to specific organs and systems of the body. The practitioner
manipulates these points with fine needles or the use of heat, cold, pressure, or
minute electrical currents.
Acutonics: An energy-based healing system and noninvasive treatment similar to
acupuncture. Precision-calibrated tuning forks, applied to specific acupuncture and
acupressure points, bring into harmony the body’s Meridian and Chakra energy
systems. These tuning forks represent a natural harmonic series based on the orbital
properties of the Earth, Moon, Sun, and planets. Their rich resonance and vibration
aligns, harmonizes, and restores the body’s natural, healthy frequencies.
Akashic Records: Recorded in the ancient Book of Life is a record of every individual
who has ever lived: thought, word, and deed. Through the reading of these records,
one can get a better understanding of patterns and blockages in current life situations.
Through clearing the records and healing all past lives, one can eliminate fears,
maintain the lessons learned, and achieve more wisdom.
Applied Kinesiology: One’s structural, chemical, and mental conditions are evaluated
through the use of muscle testing (resistance to the practitioner’s pressure on an
arm or leg) and nerve reflexes in the body. It can be used to determine whether an
imbalance is nutritional, structural, or psychological in nature and then to determine
the appropriate treatment.
Aromatherapy: Essential oils distilled from flowers, leaves, stems, roots, or fruits are
used therapeutically to address physiological and psychological issues such as anxiety,
depression, and muscular tension. Oils are inhaled from vaporizers, massaged into
the skin, or placed in baths.
Ascension: The opportunity for the energetic vibrational frequency to expand to the
next level of consciousness.
Ashiatsu Bar Massage: Ashi (foot) atsu (pressure) is also known as Barefoot Shiatsu,
an ancient form of bodywork originated by Buddhist monks, first from China and
then from Thailand and Japan. Very deep, soothing strokes are applied to all muscles
of the back using hands and foot pressure to milk the muscles, open chakras, release
toxins, induce deep relaxation, relieve inflammation, and stimulate the body’s own
self-healing capabilities.
Auriculotherapy: A Chinese Medicine treatment using auricular (ear) points.
Autonomic Response Testing, developed by Dietrich Klinghardt, MD, is a method of
determining energy system balance by observing responses of the autonomic nervous
system.
Awareness Through Movement® consists of verbally directed movement sequences
presented primarily to groups. Each lesson is usually organized around a particular
function. In ATM lessons, people engage in precisely structured movement
www.HealingArtsAlliance.org
45
explorations that involve thinking, sensing, moving, and imagining. The lessons
consist of comfortable, easy movements that gradually evolve into movements of
greater range and complexity. A major goal of ATM is to learn how one’s most basic
functions are organized.
Ayurveda originated within the Vedic tradition of India, the oldest tradition of recorded
knowledge in human history. A Sanskrit word for “the knowledge of life or daily
living,” Ayurveda affirms that humans are an integral part of the universe. This
system emphasizes health rather than focusing on disease to restore balance in mind,
body, and emotions by re-awakening one’s biological intelligence. An Ayurvedic
assessment begins by determining the person’s body type in terms of Vata (air), Pitta
(fire), Kapha (water) and their possible combinations.
Bach Flowers consist of 38 essences to remedy specific emotional and mental states,
turning negative states into positive ones. Developed in the early 1900s by British
physician and homeopath Dr. Edwin Bach, these flower essences are widely used for
both people and other animals.
Bariatrics: a branch of medicine dealing with the study and treatment of obesity.
Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) treats hormone deficiencies
caused by menopause using molecules identical to the natural female hormones.
Biovalent Systems is a gentle, manual therapy with transformative results to assist the
body’s natural healing process to achieve balance within its systems (respiratory,
circulatory, mental, emotional, etc.) and restore health.
Body Composition Analysis: A method of determining the body’s percentage of lean
body mass, fat, and water.
Body and Mind Balancing: This modality seeks to integrate the physical, intellectual,
spiritual, and emotional bodies using various holistic methods ranging from nutrition
to physical movements to personal paradigm shifts.
Body-Mind Centering®: The transformative work of Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, OT,
is an experiential approach to anatomy, physiology, and developmental movement.
It uses movement, touch, voice, and mind to explore how the mind is expressed
through the body and vice versa with relevance for dance, yoga, bodywork, physical
and occupational therapy, psychotherapy, child development, education, the arts,
meditation, and athletics. Applications are related to movement expression and
efficiency, communication, injury prevention, and rehabilitation.
Bodywork refers to a general collection of modalities which are often used together to
form a comprehensive technique. They may or may not involve physical touch, but
they all facilitate the body’s own healing response.
Bowen Technique (See NST.)
Breathwork/Rebirthing: A modality marked by its focus on the breath. The practitioner
guides the client through a breathing process which fills the body with an abundant
amount of oxygen, supplying cells with freshly charged blood. Breathwork can
rejuvenate the body and mind and release emotional memories which are stored in
the individual cells. It can also be used to reach deep inner peace, clarity, relaxation,
and healing on many levels.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome occurs when tendons or ligaments in the wrist become
enlarged, often from inflammation, after being aggravated. The narrowed tunnel of
46
2015-16 Directory of Members & Health Services
bones and ligaments in the wrist pinches the nerves that reach the fingers and the
muscles at the base of the thumb. Some cases are due to work-related cumulative
trauma of the wrist.
Case Management is a specialty practice within the health and human services
profession that can provide an array of services to help individuals and families cope
with complicated situations in the most effective ways possible, thereby achieving
a better quality of life. A good case manager will work with you to determine what
is important to you and what you think would be the most effective way to reach
those goals. Simply stated, they help to keep you, or your loved ones, at the center of
services being provided.
Cell Salts are created by grinding and potentizing each of the 12 basic mineral
compounds naturally present in the body’s tissues. They gently, safely, and effectively
address a wide range of acute and chronic problems. Cell salts are said to reorganize
and correct the way that bodily tissues function.
Central Stenosis is a narrowing or constriction of the diameter of a bodily passage or
orifice, specifically in the central canal of the spinal cord.
Certified NES Practitioner: A practitioner who has been trained by Nutri-Energetic
Systems (NES) in using NES proprietary technology to evaluate and balance the
human biofield.
Chelation Therapy: The intravenous administration of the amino acid EDTA which
latches onto and helps remove excess heavy metals from the body. Often used to treat
arteriosclerosis and dangerously high amounts of lead, mercury, nickel and copper in
the body, it can be an alternative to bypass surgery and angioplasty.
Ch’i: (See Qi.)
Chinese Herbs are usually combined in formulas to enhance their individual properties
and actions. Symptoms and signs are matched with therapeutic effects, reflecting the
particular condition and needs of each patient.
Chinese Medicine is a comprehensive system of health care which has existed for over
23 centuries. It includes acupuncture (a well-known treatment in Chinese Medicine),
acupressure massage, dietary modifications, medicinals, Qi Gong, moxibustion (heat
therapy), and various methods of stimulation of the energetic system.
Chiropractic adjustments are used for musculoskeletal problems and conditions
such as migraine headaches, high blood pressure, or nervous disorders. The proper
alignment of the spine and vertebrae is essential for good health. Misalignments
caused by poor posture or trauma result in pressure on the spinal nerve roots, which
may lead to diminished system function, and then, illness.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: An ongoing illness characterized by muscle weakness
and fatigue worsened by exertion. It is often accompanied by disturbed sleep, joint
and muscle pains, forgetfulness, depression, headaches, and digestive problems,
the onset of which usually follows severe stress such as an injury, viral illness, or
chemical exposure.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (nacbt.org): A form of psychotherapy based on the
scientific fact that our thoughts, rather than external stimuli such as people, situations,
and events, cause our feelings and behaviors. If we are experiencing unwanted
feelings and behaviors, it is important to identify the thought patterns causing them
www.HealingArtsAlliance.org
47
and to learn how to replace those thoughts with thoughts that lead to more desirable
reactions.
Connective Tissue Massage (CTM) was developed in Germany by Elizabeth Dicke
where it is considered a physical therapy treatment (bindegewebsmassage). The
therapist subtly “hooks” his or her fingers or hands into the skin, contacting the
superficial connective tissue while performing a dragging or pulling stroke through
the entire muscle.
CranioSacral Therapy: Essentially a closed spinal-hydraulic system, the craniosacral
mechanism is composed of the brain, spinal cord, bones of the skull, sacrum and
interconnected membranes, and the cerebrospinal fluid. CranioSacral therapists gently
manipulate the cranium and the sacrum to correct misalignments in the structure of
this system. Used to treat chronic pain, migraine headaches, and TMJ, CranioSacral
Therapy is especially beneficial in head or neck injuries.
Cryotherapy (Whole Body): During this treatment liquid nitrogen vapor (average
temperature minus 270 degrees F) surrounds the body for up to three minutes. Cold
sensors in the skin send a signal to the brain which causes blood to rush to the body’s
core. As blood is circulated through the core, toxins are flushed and blood becomes
enriched, which decreases inflammation all over the body.
Crystal Bed Therapy: This healing system was designed and blessed by spiritual
medium John of God at his Casa de Dom Inacio Healing Center in central Brazil.
An array of specially cut lighted quartz crystals are used to align chakras and
balance energy. Deep relaxation and mystical experiences are often reported. This
unique treatment is called Crystal Bath or Crystal Bed Therapy because the lighting
apparatus is used in conjunction with a massage table.
Cupping: Technique in Chinese Medicine to move Qi and blood in the meridians.
Cytopathology: The science dealing with the study of the diseases of cells.
Deep Feeling Core Release Therapy is based on Primal Therapy, an experiential
psychotherapy involving getting in touch with and feeling deep emotions, feelings in
the body, and releasing from the core.
Directional Non-Force Technique®, a radical departure from conventional chiropractic,
is unique as the original, hands-on, innate non-force system of correcting not only
total-body osseous misalignments, but soft tissue as well.
DITI (Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging): (See Thermography.)
Dolphin Healing: A gentle energetic healing modality which allows for the receiver to
experience more fluidity in life circumstances, more joyful, loving, balanced energy
within as well as in his or her exterior world.
Doula: One who supports mothers and thinks well about the laboring and birthing
mother and family. A doula helps carry out the birth wishes of the pregnant woman
and helps the laboring woman manage pain and fear with natural techniques.
Ear Candling is believed to help earache, ease pressure in the sinuses, and allow the ear
naturally to discharge the old ear wax.
Earth Acupuncture: A treatment used to heal Geopathic Stress on-site or from a
distance, this disperses and regulates the flow of vital energy within the earth.
Eden Energy Medicine describes approaches to mobilize the body’s energies to boost
vitality and stamina, strengthen the immune system, relieve pain, and sharpen
48

memory and mind through working with the body’s energy system of meridians.
EM recognizes energy as a vital, living, moving force that determines much about
health and happiness. You heal the body by activating its natural healing energies;
you also heal the body by restoring energies that have become weak, disturbed, or
out of balance. EM is both a complement to other approaches to medical care and
a complete system for self-care and self-help. It can address physical illness and
emotional or mental disorders, and can also promote high-level wellness and peak
performance. www.innersource.org
Educational Kinesiology: The application of kinesthetics to the study of whole
brain/body integration for the purpose of eliminating stress and maximizing full
learning potential. It is a process for drawing out innate learning abilities through the
understanding of movement and its relationship to whole-brain learning patterns.
EFT (See Emotional Freedom Techniques.)
Electric Stimulation: Utilizes electrical current, applied to the body to bring about
physiological changes in muscle tone, pain, edema, and neuromuscular re-education.
Electro-Acupuncture: After the acupuncture needle has been inserted and Qi obtained,
electrodes (wire clips) are attached and electric current is passed through to strengthen
and alter the nature of stimulation.
Electrotherapeutic Point Stimulation (ETPS) combines the principles of acupuncture,
massage, physical therapy, and micro-current stimulation to help patients with chronic
pain live normal lives again. ETPS is applied to acupuncture and trigger points, which
isolate specific tissues/organs. Using a process of elimination, a therapist can isolate
root causes of pain, providing a more efficient therapy with much stronger outcomes.
The ETPS device produces a stimulation that relaxes muscles, calms the nervous
system, relaxes contracted muscles to relieve pressed nerves, and releases endorphins
—the body’s natural pain killers.
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a simple tapping procedure based on the
principles of acupuncture/acupressure that gently aligns the body’s energy system.
Unlike most other energy healing methods, it includes an emotional and a verbal
element.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the
treatment of trauma. EMDR is a set of standardized protocols that incorporates elements from many different treatment approaches. To date, EMDR therapy has helped
millions of people of all ages relieve many types of psychological stress and disturbing memories. (www.emdria.org)
Energetics Management™: An innovative approach to goal achievement. Strategic
energetic adjustments are made to remove the blockages and limitations that hold
back success and harmonious flow. Includes various healing modalities in order to
fine-tune the results, aligning an individual or company with the goals and desires
of the heart.
Energy Medicine (as practiced by Donna Eden): (See Eden Energy Medicine.)
Energy Work involves a deeply integrative healing of the physical, mental, emotional,
and spiritual energy bodies. It rejuvenates the life force, the DNA, and immune
system allowing a freer flow of energy. It is effective in the treatment and prevention
of illness, chronic pain, stress, and emotional trauma. Practitioners of this range of
www.HealingArtsAlliance.org
49
therapies address blockages or stagnations in the energy field in and around the body
and seek to restore its proper circulation and balance. Examples of energy work
include acupuncture, polarity therapy, and Reiki. Sessions may or may not involve
physical touch.
Epidermal leveling, also known as dermaplaning, is a safe and effective exfoliation
suitable for all skin tones. EL utilizes a specially designed surgical instrument to
carefully remove the topmost layers of skin, resulting in a beautiful, refinished look.
EL gives the skin a smoother appearance by removing dead skin cells in addition to
the fine vellus facial hair (“peach fuzz”) that can trap excess dirt and oil and leave the
complextion looking dull. It also stimulates and rejuvenates skin tissue, making it an
effective way to reduce acne scarring, uneven pigmentation, and fine line wrinkles.
Most people notice marked improvements in the texture and appearance of their skin
immediately after their first treatment. EL can be used alone or in conjunction with
other procedures. It is noninvasive and does not require use of any chemicals, making
it suitable even for our pregnant and nursing clients. A healthy and glowing complexion
is now quickly and easily within reach with this safe and unique treatment.
Essential Oils: Concentrated essences of various flowers, fruits, herbs, grasses, plants,
and trees. They have remarkable, complex properties and are appropriate for use in
supporting your health, personal care, and environmental clearing. Scientific research
has isolated hundreds of chemicals in essential oils, and has shown many essential
oils to have antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic properties.
Esthetician: One who is knowledgeable about aesthetic—the application of various
techniques to the skin, including, but not limited to, waxing, pore cleansing, exfoliation,
chemical peels, and several device-driven noninvasive procedures.
ETPS: (See Electrotherapeutic Point Stimulation.)
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing: (See EMDR.)
Facercise: Facial exercise for the 57 muscles of the face and neck.
Far-Infrared therapy uses radiant heaters with ceramic or metallic elements that mainly
emit in the Far-Infrared range. Treatment seeks to stimulate the body to release fatsoluble toxins, heavy metals, and other toxic chemicals; to increase blood circulation
and oxygen supply to damaged tissues (aiding reduction of chronic joint and muscle
pain or sport injuries); promote relaxation; induce sleep; and relieve stress.
Feng Shui: The art and science of arranging spaces and elements in those areas to
create harmonious energy flows and patterns, tempering or enhancing the energy
where necessary. Properly adjusted spaces are thought to enhance success, happiness,
relationships, personal fulfillment and other aspects of life.
Fibromyalgia Syndrome: A widespread musculoskeletal pain and fatigue disorder for
which the cause is still uncertain. Fibromyalgia refers to pain in the muscles, ligaments
and tendons—the fibrous tissues in the body. Most patients with fibromyalgia say that
they ache all over. Their muscles may feel like they have been pulled or overworked.
Sometimes the muscles twitch and at other times they burn.
Field Control Therapy (FCT®): A dynamic method of bio-energy evaluation and
treatment that has achieved results in cases where no other method has worked. It
utilizes kinesiology (muscle testing) for evaluation/diagnosis and causative nonclassical homeopathy for intervention/treatment.

Frequency Specific Microcurrent: uses micro amperage current (1/1,000,000th amp)
to balance tissues at their own level of frequency. Like the brain or heart, each type
of tissue resonates/vibrates at a unique frequency. FSM modulates the imbalanced
frequencies the cells may be producing to assist the body in correcting the imbalance.
Microcurrent is primarily used for the reduction of pain: chronic myofascial, disc
and facet joint, neurological, and other conditions can be successfully treated. FSM
has been shown to reduce inflammation and the chemical messengers that cause
inflammation. It increases ATP, the molecule cells use for energy. Each treatment is
unique to each patient’s condition; no two are exactly alike.
Full Specialist: Being licensed to perform facials, manicures, and pedicures.
Functional Integration® is a hands-on form of tactile, kinesthetic communication.
The Feldenkrais® practitioner communicates to the student how he/she organizes
his/her body and hints, through gentle touching and movement, how to move in more
expanded functional motor patterns. The learning process is carried out without the
use of any invasive or forceful procedure in Functional Integration®, the practitioner/
teacher develops a lesson for the student, custom-tailored to the unique configuration
of that particular person at that particular moment.
Functional Medicine is dedicated to the treatment of persons as individuals, and
a hologram of interrelated physiological systems. Many chronic illnesses defy
categorization, e.g., it’s a little-known fact that the “gut” has its own nervous system
(enteric), and much of our immune system is housed here. Your depression may be a
“gut” problem, and there are lab tests to help diagnose this.
Geopathic Stress: Unnatural vibrations of energy within the land (below the foundation
of a building) that cause health problems in people, animals, plants and trees. “Chaos
underground” is caused by electromagnetic fields from fault lines, sink holes,
subterranean water, and underground power lines.
Good Vibes Experience: A sound and light frequency session that allows music to reharmonize the mind/body/spirit in perfect alignment. Helpful for stress management,
breaking through limited thinking, problem solving, accessing your creative genius,
and raising consciousness.
Gong Yoga is classical yoga combined with the sound of the gong to create a state of
spontaneous meditation and therapeutic relaxation. The gong facilitates the movement
of vital life energy through the body for healing and to awaken consciousness for
transformation. While in a relaxed, meditative state, the gong is played to cleanse the
subconscious and awaken one to a transcendant state of awareness. Gong Yoga is a
perfect union of intentional consciousness and applied sound.
GYROKINESIS® Methodology These exercises allow one to work on the entire body
through seven natural elements of spinal movement: forward, backward, left side,
right side, left twist, right twist, and circular, as well as other joint articulation. This
approach systematically and gently works the joints and muscles through rhythmic
and undulating movements. Fluidity is the key. Postures are not held for long periods
of time. Instead, postures are smoothly and harmoniously connected through the use
of breath, making exercises appear and feel more like a dance and swimming, than
traditional yoga. Exercises are done seated on stools, standing, or as floor work.
GYROTONIC® Methodology Gyrotonic exercises offer complete freedom of
www.HealingArtsAlliance.org
51
movement. Exercises are performed on the professional Pulley Tower, and the
equipment is fully adjustable and can meet the needs of most body types and levels
of strength. The even and constant resistance in the handle unit and tower eliminates
the jarring that often occurs with exercises performed on conventional exercise
equipment. The circular, spiraling, and undulating movements that characterize the
GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® help to increase the functional capacity of
the spine, contributing to a spherical and three-dimensional awareness, resulting in
increased equilibrium.
Hakomi Principles: Five guiding principles, developed by Ron Kurtz, for practitioners
in the bodywork field: organicity, unity, body/mind wholeness, mindfulness, and

Health coach: Health coaching is a new health care profession that empowers people
to make successful and permanent lifestyle changes to achieve their health goals. A
professional health coach is trained in an interdisciplinary skill set based strongly
on values clarification and motivational interviewing. Typically, a health coach is a
medical professional trained in this specific skill set to empower people to achieve
successful health changes in their lives. This is a rapidly expanding profession because
of success in helping people make changes in their health.
HEG (Hemoencephalography) Biofeedback is an effective and drugless treatment
for many conditions involving the brain’s frontal lobe activation. HEG represents
a simple and non-intrusive way of both monitoring and training cerebral function
without the inconvenience of electrode preparation, which other neurofeedback
methods generally require.
Herbs: Plant or plant parts valued for medicinal, savory, or aromatic qualities because
they contain a variety of substances that act upon the body. Herbs have been applied
to virtually every disease and condition of humankind.
Homeopathy: Developed by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann over 200 years ago, this system
treats illness based on the Law of Similars, “Let likes be cured by likes.” A substance
will cure symptoms in a sick person that it has produced in a healthy person. For
example, a child eats the berries of deadly nightshade (belladonna) and subsequently
develops symptoms of belladonna poisoning — similar to scarlet fever. Belladonna,
in safe, nontoxic doses prepared according to homeopathic specifications, has cured
many cases of this illness. Classical Homeopathy mandates the administration of a
single remedy in a single potency, chosen according to the Law of Similars, to address
the individuality and totality of a person, not only his or her disease diagnosis.
Homeotherapy is the treatment or prevention of a disease using the principles of
homeopathy.
Homotoxicology: The study of environmental poisoning of the human body.
Hot Stone Treatment: The application of moist, heated mineral stones to areas of the
body, used as an enhancement of the massage experience.

disease, sickness and symptoms are a reflection of imbalance in an individual’s
energy system, it uses gentle finger pressure—on specific points—to facilitate the
release of “armoring” or chronic tension, and balance the Qi or energy. The resulting
state of relaxation allows one to move out of the head and into the body, accessing
deep feelings and inner wisdoms.
Jin Shin Jyutsu is a physio-philosophy that focuses on harmony and the wisdom of
nature. Treatments can best be described as energy medicine focusing on harmonizing
mind, body, and spirit. During a one-hour session, a client lies fully clothed, face up on
a massage table. Fingers and hands are placed on and around 26 different safety energy
“locks” or points. This gentle touch healing art releases deep tensions and imbalances.
Joint Mobilization: Rehab technique used to improve joint range-of-motion.
Kabbalistic Healing (See Integrated Kabbalistic Healing.)
Karmic Release: Past experiences lie within our body cells and our psyche. Through
Karmic release, patterns of fear, blockages, suffering, health issues, life drama are
eliminated and new soul contracts are created which are appropriate to support current
desires. The process is done on the energetic vibrational level and the conscious level
and is supported by healing/integration on the mental, physical, spiritual/soul levels.
Karuna Reiki, developed by William L. Rand, opens the practitioner to work more
closely with all enlightened beings: physically present as well as in spirit. Karuna, a
Sanskrit word used in Hinduism, Buddhism and Zen, translates as “any action taken
to diminish the suffering of others” and could also mean “compassionate action.”
KaTone Health Education System (KHES) educates health practitioners and lay
persons in the use of natural therapies to support optimum health for body, mind,
and spirit. KHES programs include Deep Tissue Muscle Therapy, nutritional,

instruments, especially the harmonium, as a group prayer and meditation.
LaHo Chi: A spiritually based hands-on healing which facilitates release of the deepest
layers of emotional and physical pain and trauma, both past and present and uses life
force to energetically restructure the blueprint of the etheric or vital body which then
aligns and balances the physical body. It also balances the etheric, emotional and
mental bodies and aligns them with the spiritual bodies of Higher Consciousness.
Lakulish is the 28th incarnation of Lord Shiva, who is one of the primary three aspects
of the Divine in Hinduism. He is the transformer of consciousness.
LED Light Therapy: Red light increases circulation and moisture retention, stimulates
cell turnover, reduces pore size, evens out skin tones, aids in photo-damaged skin,
reduces inflammation, speeds up the healing process, and decreases fine lines and
wrinkles. Blue light is anti-bacterial, kills acne bacteria, and reduces acne without
irritation.
Living Foods Nutrition is diet and lifestyle based on eating a natural diet (mainly
uncooked vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds), and getting exercise, relaxation, sleep
and rest.

Lymphatic Drainage Therapy (Manual Lymph Drainage): A hands-on technique
to activate fluid circulation and stimulate the functioning of the immune system
and parasympathetic nervous system using a very light touch. It can help chronic
pain, fibromyalgia, stress overload, edemas (swelling), and regeneration of burned,
scarred and wrinkled tissue.
Lymphatic Facial Release makes use of gentle pressure from the fingers along
lymphatic pathways, to help release stress and enhance lymph circulation. The
constant movements of the fingers through strokes along these pathways help in the
elimination of toxins. As toxins are released, the muscles weigh less, and are lifted
by the process, creating a natural face lift. The client’s face feels amazing, light, and
relaxed, and looks vibrant. Some lymphatic massage therapists incorporate the use of
aroma oils or essential oils to help in the massage. Hot moist towels or cleansers along
with exfoliators and masks are also used to enhance the experience of facial release.
Mandelic Peel: mandelic acid, a premium alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) found in
bitter almonds, is beneficial for the treatment of melasma, pregnancy mask, and
hyperpigmentation, and preserves a “fresh glowing look” by speeding up cell turnover
and preventing a new buildup of dead skin cells. It promotes even appearance in skin
texture, tone, and smoothness. Mandelic acid acts as a natural antibacterial inhibitor
to help control blemishes for acne-prone or oily skin, and aids in the reversal of sun
damage, age spots, and fine lines.
Marma massage is a gentle massage using warm essential oils and small circular
movements to stimulate specific marma points (similar to acupuncture points) on
the body. It removes blockages and helps the flow of vital energy in the individual,
resulting in balance and relaxation.
Massage Therapy: A variety of disciplines involving the manipulation of soft tissue
for therapeutic purposes. It involves the practice of kneading or otherwise affecting
muscles by hand or mechanical device with the intent of increasing circulation and
detoxification, reducing physical and emotional stress and increasing general wellness.
Matrix Energetics is based on the laws and expression of subtle energy physics and the
concepts and laws of quantum physics, superstring theory, and Sheldrake’s Morphic
Resonance. In physics, reality can be described as vibrations and wave patterns;
everything is light and information. Disease may be defined as a disruption, cessation
or distortion in the matrix of these fields. Physical and emotional injuries impair
communication at the cellular level. Matrix Energetics field re-establishes the flow
of biological information so the body can better respond to stimuli in its internal and
external environments. See matrixenergetics.com.
Medical (Therapeutic) Massage: specifies treatments geared to medical or health
problems and is usually ordered by a physician.
Meditation: A focusing of the mind often using the breath, an object or image, silently
chanting a mantra—a simple word or phrase—to help clear the mind and enhance
mental clarity.
Mesotherapy is used as an alternative to liposuction, as well as for skin rejuvenation,
and can shrink belly fat, double chins, saddlebags, and bra bulge. Multiple injections

A dual effect in the battle against skin aging is tackling not just the consequences but
the causes of skin aging.
Microcurrent: Bio Therapeutics, BT Nano Microcurrent with BT Cocktail is a
strategic, three-part skin energy system that uses the most forward-thinking antiaging ingredients to increase cellular functions in areas of regeneration, renewal, and
protection. Using ATP (adenosine triphosphate) as the bio-catalyst to increase cellular
respiration and oxygenation of the cell, the BT-Cocktail is the ultimate in a lifestyle
skin care product for both professionals and consumers. Additionally, BT-Cocktail
includes the first 100 percent ozone protection defense, along with ergothioneine,
which is a proven broad-spectrum antiodxident.
miHealth is a handheld device used to remove blockages in and balance the human
biofield for healthy function.
Mindful eating: Research indicates that stress is the underlying cause of overweight
and food-related issues. Diets do not work and are not healthy. Mindful eating draws
on the strong research and skill sets of mindfulness to help people with food and
eating issues learn how to handle their stress in positive ways and develop a new and
joyous relationship with food and eating that supports their health goals.
Mindfulness is both as paradigm and the practices of bringing one’s full attention into
the present moment. Mindfulness is strongly evidence-based in acute and chronic
medical situations and in wellness and stress management programs. It is used by major
corporations to increase productivity and creativity, in schools to enhance effective
learning and creativity, and in other settings such as the military. Mindfulness can
improve the quality of life.
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a specific eight-week intensive
training in mindfulness developed primarily for serious students of mindfulness
or for people with serious health conditions. Thirty years of scientific studies at
UM Medical Center have shown that mindfulness practices make a significant
difference in quality of life for people with a wide variety of chronic stress disorders,
pain conditions, and major chronic illnesses, as well as enhance wellness and help
maximize positive living.
Movement Education: Assistance in recognizing and improving one’s quality of
movement in relation to specific tasks. Through particular exercises, a practitioner
helps the individual in finding movement patterns that cause difficulty, then suggests
exercises to amend the patterns or use hands-on repatterning techniques to bring
about new, healthier patterns.
Moxa: Heat applied to specific areas of the body as a treatment for disharmony.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS): An inflammatory disease of the central nervous system
56

(CNS), the brain and spinal cord. Predominantly a disease of the “white matter” tissue
made up of nerve fibers which are responsible for transmitting signals both within the
CNS and between the CNS and the nerves supplying the rest of the body. MS causes
patches of damage called plaques or lesions to appear in seemingly random areas of
the CNS white matter. At the site of a lesion, a nerve insulating material called myelin
is lost. MS is a serious disease, but almost nobody loses function in all areas, and
some people are affected much worse than others. People with MS can experience
full or partial numbness, tingling, pins and needles, muscle weakness, muscle spasms,
spasticity, cramps, pain, blindness, blurred or double vision, incontinence, urinary
urgency or hesitancy, constipation, slurred speech, loss of sexual function, loss of
balance, nausea, disabling fatigue, depression, memory problems, other forms of
cognitive dysfunction, and an inability to swallow, and/or control breathing.
Music Therapist-Board Certified (MT-BC) is the credential granted by the Certification
Board for Music Therapists to identify music therapists who have demonstrated the
knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to practice music therapy at the current
level of the profession.
Music Therapy: The American Music Therapy Association defines MT as the clinical
and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals
within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed
an approved music therapy program. MT became an established health profession
during the 1940s, and uses music and its seven elements (melody, tempo, rhythm,
timbre, harmony, form, and dynamics) within a therapeutic relationship to address
a variety of client needs including physical, psychological, cognitive, and behavioral
functions. Previous training in music is not required in order to benefit from it.
Myofascial Release: Therapeutic treatment as a gentle form of stretching has a healing
effect on body tissues, eliminating pain and restoring motion. Fascia is a connective
tissue which surrounds every muscle, bone, nerve, blood vessel, and organ of the
body, down to the cellular level. Malfunction of the fascial system due to trauma,
posture, or inflammation can create a binding down of fascia, resulting in abnormal
pressure on nerves, muscles, bones, or organs.
Myofascial unwinding and rebounding refers to unweighting a joint or body part after
which it begins to spontaneously move in intuitive ways which promote the self-healing
of injuries and “ancient” wounds. The whole body often gets involved. Rebounding
occurs in a state of deep relaxation. A series of stimulated movements “rebound” the
patient into an intense series of releases through accessing the subconscious’ deeper
wisdom of the body. Rebounding is often accompanied by massive emotional releases
as the patient is afforded an opportunity to revisit and release old traumas and injuries
that occurred many years ago.
Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Techniques (NAET®): are a non-invasive, drugfree, natural solution to eliminate allergies of all types and intensities, using a blend
of selective energy balancing, testing, and treatment procedures from acupuncture/
acupressure, allopathy, chiropractic, nutritional, and kinesiological disciplines of
medicine. See www.NAET.com
Natural foods: Minimally processed foods that remain as close as possible to their whole,
original state and are generally more nutritious than their refined counterparts.

Naturology is an exclusive course of study that was created by the American Institute
of Holistic Theology. Naturology comes from the root word, nature, meaning “that
which is lifelike, not artificial” and the suffix, ology, meaning “a branch of learning
or science.” Naturology holds that nature is our total source for dietary, spiritual, and
intellectual health. Naturologists do not use anything synthetic; instead they choose
only nature’s own solutions.
Naturopathy: To safely heal in harmony with the natural functions of the body is the
underlying principle of the naturopathic system of medicine. Health or disease results
from a complex interaction of physical, emotional, dietary, genetic, environmental,
lifestyle, and other factors. Naturopathic doctors treat the whole person, taking these
factors into account.
Neural Mobilization: A rehab technique used to decrease neural entrapment caused
by soft-tissue injury. The brain, spinal cord, and nerves are continuous and are
surrounded by connective tissue which can develop tension or tightness, often
contributing to nerve symptoms experienced as radiating pain, numbness, tingling
or weakness. NM is a gentle nerve stretching technique to relieve this tension and its
associated symptoms.
Neuro-Integration Therapy addresses the nuclei and reticular formation in the brain.
Neuromuscular Therapy is often used to relieve tender or congested spots in muscle
tissue and compressed nerves that may radiate pain to other areas of the body. The
role of the brain, spine, and nerves is emphasized in this type of therapy.
Neuropathy: Peripheral neuropathy is damage or disease affecting the nerves, which
may impair sensation, movement, gland or organ function, or other aspects of health,
depending on the type of nerve affected. Common causes include systemic diseases
(such as diabetes or leprosy), vitamin deficiency, medication (e.g., chemotherapy),
traumatic injury, excessive alcohol consumption, immune system disease, or infection,
or it may be inherited (present from birth). In conventional medical usage, the word
neuropathy (neuro + pathy) without modifier usually means peripheral neuropathy.
NLP (Neuro-linguistic Programming) is the study of language, communication, and
personal change. From a health perspective it involves being conscious of how you
talk to yourself, how that influences the history patterns in your body, and how to
facilitate the healing process through these patterns.
No Lipo Lipo: A massage-like technique that improves circulation and reduces
cellulite.
NST (Neurostructural Integration Technique or Bowen) is essentially a soft tissue
therapy designed to remove pain, physiological dysfunction and even psychological
imbalances by restoring the structural integrity of the body. Its application is suitable
and safe for all ages, from newborn to elderly.
NutraMetrix® is a custom health solution offering health professionals and clients a
way to achieve their optimal health through the use of science-based nutraceuticals,
effective weight management programs, and custom supplementation products.
Nutriceutical: A coined word combining nutrition and pharmaceutical which means
to “let food be your medicine and medicine be your food.” Generally, any nutritional
supplement designed for any specific clinical purpose and sold as food for general
consumption—or “health food”—to be used as supplements to nutrition (diet).
58

Nutrition: The process by which a living organism assimilates food and uses it for
growth, liberation of energy, and replacement of tissues. Proteins, carbohydrates,
vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes are the basic elements our bodies use to
create and maintain life. A specific balance of these elements is required to maintain
optimal health.
Nutritional Medicine calls for higher, therapeutic doses of basic nutrients to address
illnesses and disorders. It can be used effectively for diseases of deficiency which may
be caused by poor diet or extreme environmental factors. Because this method uses
substances which are vital to human physiology, nutritional medicine is well received
by the body.
Oneness Blessing (Deeksha) is a non-denominational benediction; a unique and specific
blessing. It is the transfer of divine energy, which over time, is designed to bring about
the state of oneness in the recipient. This energy has been brought to the world through
divine grace, and is being bestowed upon humanity. The Oneness Blessing flows from
the vision of Sri Amma and Sri Bhagavan, founders of the Oneness Movement—a
rapidly growing worldwide community composed of people of all nationalities, all
religions, and all spiritual paths. This movement, in cooperation with many, is playing
a pivotal role in transforming humanity from a personal perception of separateness to
an undeniable experience of complete Oneness, or connectedness, with all that is.
Orff-Schulwerk is a way to teach and learn music. It is based on things children like to
do: sing, chant rhymes, clap, dance, and keep a beat on anything near at hand. These
instincts are directed into learning music by hearing and making music first, then
reading and writing it later. This is the same way we all learned our language.
Organic: Pertaining to, involving, or grown with fertilizers of animal, mineral, or
vegetable origin, as distinguished from manufactured chemicals.
Orthopedics: The branch of medicine that deals with the prevention or correction
of injuries or disorders of the skeletal system and associated muscles, joints, and
ligaments.
Orthotists are practitioners who make braces, splints, and external devices to support a
limb or help correct a misalignment.
Pain Reflex Release Technique (PRRT): This nonconventional physical therapy
approach utilizes the body’s primal reflexes for the purpose of reducing musculoskeletal
pain and enhancing natural healing. It can be used effectively to treat chronic pain
conditions, fibromyalgia, post surgical pain, or unresolved pains. These reflexes refer
specifically to protective reflexes. A reflex is any movement occurring automatically
and involuntarily as a result of the nervous system’s reaction to a stimulus. PRRT is
based on the theories that abnormal responses to pain and stress occur when basic
or primal reflexes are overactive, and that the nervous system responses can be
neutralized using certain manual techniques and home exercises.
Physical Therapy: A hands-on approach that assists healing using a variety of
techniques including exercise, hot/cold treatments, electrical stimulation, and
massage. When used after injuries and surgery, it accelerates recovery by improving
strength, relieving pain, and restoring full range of motion. Physical therapy also aims
to help prevent recurring injuries.

biology through a variety of mechanisms. For over 60 years, Pleo® Sanum isopathic,
homeopathic, and supplementation preparations have been a keystone of biological
medicine for thousands of patients suffering chronic and acute conditions worldwide.
The biological medicine perspective sees the body as a balance of life processes
influenced at many points.
PMA-Member Share Network is a private member organization incorporated by the
Pastoral Medical Association to provide members the opportunity to give and receive
natural health care information and services.
Polarity Therapy: 1) Founded by Austrian-born naturopath Dr. Randolph Stone in
the mid-1920s, Polarity is a noninvasive approach complementing existing systems
within an integrated holistic model. Polarity is based on the belief that positive and
negative poles exist in every cell. The clothed body is gently manipulated to balance
the positive and negative energies. In addition, a simple cleansing diet helps eliminate
blockages and toxins. 2) A comprehensive health system involving energy-based
bodywork, diet, exercise and self-awareness. It works with the human energy field—
electromagnetic patterns expressed in mental, emotional and physical experience.
Polarity Therapy views health as a reflection of the condition of the energy field, and
its therapeutic methods are designed to balance the field for health benefit.
Posterior Facet Syndrome: The facet joints (Z-joints) are a pair of joints in the posterior
aspect of the spine. This joint is one of the most common sources of low back pain.
In all, many sources of pain can be found at the Z-joint, ranging from degenerative
changes to irritated nerve endings (chemical and mechanical) to concomitant nerve
root entrapment.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric disorder that can occur
following the experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as military
combat, natural disasters, terrorist incidents, serious accidents, or violent personal
assaults like rape. People who suffer from PTSD often relive the experience through
nightmares and flashbacks, have difficulty sleeping, and feel detached or estranged,
and these symptoms can be severe enough and last long enough to significantly impair
the person’s daily life.
Pregnancy Massage provides circulatory benefits, stress reduction, improved physiological functioning, reduced musculoskeletal pain, and effective massage for labor
preparation, labor facilitation, and postpartum recovery. Specific safety precautions
include positioning concerns, appropriate depth of pressure, pain level adjustments,
somatic therapies, and specific guidelines for high-risk pregnancies and pregnancy
complications to help ensure a healthy pregnancy, labor, and birth experience. The
age-old use of reassuring touch provides an anchor and is an intrinsic part of nurturing and cherishing mother and child. Pregnancy massage can help to alleviate
most of the common ailments of pregnancy, including nausea, back ache, neck ache,
and insomnia. It reassures the mother that she will be able to birth her baby.

tissue. Prolotherapy has been successful in triggering the body’s immune system to
respond in an area such as a tendon or ligament that, once damaged, usually does not
heal completely due to poor blood circulation. It is a useful treatment where the root
cause of a patient’s chronic or recurring back, neck, or joint pain is joint instability
due to tendon or ligament damage. See www.theongleyinstitute.com
PRRT (See Pain Reflex Release Technique.)
PsychK (psych-k.com), short for psychology and kinesiology, is a modality developed
by Rob Williams for balancing conscious intent with the subconscious.
Psychotherapy: A counseling method that helps one look objectively at behavior,
feelings, thoughts, and problematic situations to determine more effective ways of
understanding and behaving.
Qi: The circulating life energy that in Eastern philosophy is thought to be inherent in all
things; in traditional Chinese medicine the balance of negative and positive forms in
the body is believed to be essential for good health.
Qi Gong: A system of practices for rejuvenation and health preservation, loosely
translated to mean “Life Force gained through the merit of practice.” Qi Gong
improves flexibility, strength, mental focus, and physical and emotional balance
through visualization, meditation, stretching, movement, self-massage, and sound.
Quantum Healing is “Healing the body-mind from a quantum level… QH involves a
shift in the fields of energy information, so as to bring about a correction in an idea
that has gone wrong. It involves healing one mode of consciousness, the mind, to
bring about changes in another mode of consciousness, the body.” (Deepak Chopra)
Through kinesiology, QH accesses collective consciousness to get to the place of
origin of an illness.
RASA is the fluid, the juice, in the body which comes from correctly digested food.
RASA gives rise to all the tissues of the body and imparts a feeling of pleasure in its
own existence.
Rebirthing (See Breathwork.)
Reflexology: A science that applies pressure to the feet or hands to stimulate reflexes
which correspond to specific areas of the body. This stimulation of the reflexes by
way of a specific manual technique using the thumbs and fingers helps relieve stress
and improve blood circulation and nerve transmission to bring greater balance and
well-being to the body.
Reiki: (RAY-key) A gentle, non-invasive, ancient form of natural healing. The practitioner
usually places his/her hands on the clothed recipient, moving the hands every few
minutes. This form of energy healing works on the physical, etheric, and subtle bodies
by restoring and balancing the natural life force energy within the body.
The Reiki Alliance: A global community of Reiki Masters who support one another in
their practice of the Usui System of Reiki Healing. (www.ReikiAlliance.com)

help find the sexual fulfillment one desires. SC offers a safe space for to heal, reclaim
your natural birthright to enjoy the pleasures of sex, and to develop and enhance your
sexual power and authenticity. Sessions are completely personalized to help meet
one’s own desired outcomes, and may incorporate home assignments, bodywork,
personalized sex education, field trips and rituals. SC involves becoming attuned to
body, mind, emotions, energy and spirit, so that sex can become an integrated, joyful
part of life.
Sex therapy is a specialized form of counseling that focuses on sexual concerns. In
the state of Florida, the title “Sex Therapist” can only be used by those who meet
requirements stated in the FL Statutes. Certification from AASECT requires
additional continuing education and supervision. Sex therapists can help with sexual
desire issues, difficulty with arousal/erections and/or orgasm/ejaculations, sexual
trauma issues, mismatched desire or interests in couples, and gender and sexuality
issues. Therapy may include home-assignments, direct suggestions or a focus on
resolving uncomfortable feelings from the past or present.
Shaman, Shamanism: An ancient and contemporary earth-centered practice of
opening one’s vision to enter the reality of a broader “unseen” universe for the
purpose of enhancing daily life and issues in this world. The core of shamanism is
direct revelation through communication with spiritual allies and the natural world.
It has been practiced in many forms by people throughout history. Contemporary
shamanism holds great promise for expanded meaning, problem solving, and healing
of our world during times of great transition and awakening.
Shiatsu is a holistic approach to healing. The practitioner applies gentle rhythmic
pressure along the acupuncture meridians to restore health, balance, and vitality.
Stress-related conditions respond well to Shiatsu therapy, which is done with the
client fully clothed on a futon.
Somatics (Greek somatikos, soma: “living, aware, bodily person”) means pertaining
to the body, experienced and regulated from within. The concept of soma posits that
neither body nor mind is separate from the other; both are part of a living process.
Many of the approaches in the field of somatics address the body-mind split endemic
in Western culture, and body-mind integration is a common goal. Freedom from
restrictions in body and mind is another goal, so that the individual functions and
thrives optimally with self-mastery and healthy responsibility within the environment
in which he or she lives. A fundamental principle of somatic disciplines is that growth,

change, and transformation are always possible at any age.
Soul Retrieval is a shamanic ritual in which a shaman and her power animal journey on
behalf of a person to find, retrieve, and return to him parts of his soul that have split
off (due to overwhelming soul trauma), been given away (common in codependent or
traumatic relationships), or stolen. Soul retrieval restores a degree of wholeness and
aliveness that enriches a person’s ability to be present in his own life.
Sound Therapy is a form of Biological Resonance or BioResonance. The tones are
delivered in the range of brainwave multiples and resonate with the cells of the human
body. When balance is restored, harmony and healing are the result.
Spiritual Direction is the process of accompanying, rather than directing, a person
in her or his spiritual life. Distinct from counseling or therapy, such spiritual
companionship provides opportunity for listening, nurture, and growth in a way that
invites discerning and trusting “nudges” experienced within.
Structural Integration/Rolfing: This method of bodywork consists of deep tissue
manipulation and client education about how the body is positioned in relation to
gravity. The major sections of the body—the head, shoulders, chest, pelvis, and legs—
are “reordered” to enhance flexibility, ease of breath, and movement. As the physical
body is adjusted, so are corresponding parts of the emotional body, making for a
comprehensive healing session.
Swedish Massage: One of the most common Western massage techniques; a vigorous
system of treatment designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation using a
combination of kneading, rolling, and vibrational, percussive and tapping movements.
Benefits may include general relaxation, dissolution of scar tissue adhesions, and
improved circulation.
Telangiectasias or angioectasias (spider veins) are small dilated blood vessels near
the surface of the skin or mucous membranes, measuring between 0.5 and 1 mm.
in diameter. They can develop anywhere on the body but are commonly seen on the
face, around the nose, cheeks and chin. They can also develop on the legs, specifically
on the upper thigh, below the knee joint, and around the ankles.
Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ) is a condition in which the joint that
connects the temporal bone (which forms the sides of the skull) with the mandible
(jaw bone) does not function properly. We use this joint more frequently than most
others; every time we talk, chew, bite or swallow. TMJ produces pain in the muscles
and joints of the jaw that can radiate to the face, neck, head and shoulders. There
may be difficulty opening the mouth all the way, or clicking/popping when chewing,
yawning, or kissing. The most common causes are poor bite and stress, combined
with teeth grinding, especially at night; gum chewing can worsen the condition.
Thai Massage/Thai Yoga Massage: 1) Bodywork which involves gentle stretching of
the client by the therapist to bring balance by opening the energy lines on both sides of
the body. It uses a very complex sequence of soft-tissue pressing, stretching, twisting,
and joint movement. 2) Thai massage is an ancient Eastern form of massage which
incorporates stimulation of acupressure points along energy lines, and facilitated,
yoga-like stretches to release blocked energy and restore harmony.
Therapeutic Exercise: Specific exercises, designed for rehabilitation of the musculoskeletal system, to stimulate the return of normal movement function.

Thermography: Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging (DITI) is a totally non-invasive,
clinical imaging procedure for detecting and monitoring a number of diseases and
physical injuries by showing the thermal abnormalities present in the body. Some
of these diseases and injuries include fibromyalgia, TMJ, carpal tunnel syndrome,
whiplash, digestive disorders, and in particular, breast disease. The benefit of DITI
testing in the case of breast disease is that it offers an opportunity for earlier detection
than has been possible through self-examination, a doctor’s exam, or mammography
alone.
TMJ (See Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome.)
Total Motion Release: Holistic physical therapy approach which utilizes normal and
functional movements that help accelerate healing simply by placing less weight and
activity in the “bad” areas or movements and exaggerate the workload in “good” areas
or movements.
The TRAGER® Approach: Movement re-education and neuro-muscular reprogramming which enhances body/mind integration, offering new possibilities to the nervous
system. Clients are invited to let go of deep holding patterns through gentle touch/
movements offered by the practitioner in a deeply relaxed, meditative state. Working
within one’s pain-free range, the practitioner communicates a quality of natural fluidity and teaches the receiver to experience more fluid, playful ways of thinking, feeling
and moving. This shift from effort to ease is reinforced through Mentastics® self-care
movements. Trager.com.
TriYoga, a unique system of Hatha yoga developed by Kali Ray, is based on flowing
sequences in which postures are connected by a wave-like motion. This method is the
union of posture, breath and focus—which is asana, pranayama and mudra.
Tsi Dup Yang Bod, based upon the 7th-century Bon text Tse Dup Jha Ri Ma, is the
ancient Tibetan system of healing the energetic essence of the soul, life force, and
life.
Tui Na is a form of Chinese manipulative therapy often used in conjunction with acupuncture, moxibustion, fire cupping, Chinese herbalism, tai chi and qigong. It is a
hands-on-body treatment using acupressure, which is a modality of Chinese medicine
whose purpose is to bring the body into balance.
Ultrasound: The use of therapeutic sound at a frequency designed to stimulate the
healing process, by increasing the temperature deep within the body, which fosters an
increase of blood circulation to the area of injury.
Usui Shiki Ryoho translates from Japanese as “The Usui System of Reiki Healing.”
This form of natural, hands-on healing received and developed by Dr. Mikao Usui
was passed on through a distinct method of teaching and practice. The Usui System
includes, among other elements, an oral tradition and initiation ritual, use of specific
symbols, a defined form of practice, and the recognition of the spiritual lineage of
Mikao Usui, Chujiro Hayashi, Hawayo Takata, and Phyllis Lei Furumoto. (www.

Vibrational Frequency Adjustments: A study of the current energetic vibrational
frequency rate of any situation, object, person, or illness, and then re-tuning the
harmonic resonance to create a more optimal outcome. The higher the vibrational
frequency, the more light emanating from a situation and attracting matched energy.

Viniyoga™ is a comprehensive and authentic transmission of yoga including asana,
pranayama, bandha, sound, chanting, meditation, personal ritual, and study of texts.
Viniyoga™ is an ancient Sanskrit term that implies differentiation, adaptation, and
appropriate application.
Webster’s In-Utero Constraint Technique is used for assisting breach babies in turning
after the seventh month of pregnancy. It involves a gentle sacral adjustment, as well as
a trigger point on the anterior aspect of the woman’s pelvis. A highly effective, gentle,
non-invasive technique that has helped many women avoid a Caesarian-section.
Whole-Body Cryotherapy (See Cryotherapy.)
Yapana® means support and extension of life in Sanskrit, and was created by Leeann
Carey. There are always three parts: the warm-up of one movement with one breath; a
series of Doing poses that require effort; and a series of Being poses that are supported
and completely restorative.
Yoga is a comprehensive system of practices that enable a person to develop his or
her highest potential physically, mentally, and spiritually. It usually includes asanas
(postures that strengthen, stretch, and tone the body); breathing techniques; meditation;
and chanting. One may choose from a variety of yoga traditions all of which can lead
to better health and well-being.
Yoga Nidra is a beautiful restorative yogic meditation that establishes a strong line of
communication with the higher self.
Zero Balancing is a gentle method of using touch to balance the energy body (subtle
movements in muscles, tissue fluids, cellular and molecular vibrations) with the
physical structure (bones, soft tissues and the body organs). The energy body is
like the wind while the physical structure is like the sail of a boat: when they are
in balance, dysfunctional habits, such as imprints from past traumas and outmoded
emotional patterns, can release.

Mindbody Medicine
Utilizing the Innate Power and Strength of One’s Emotional and
Physical States to Improve Overall Health and Wellbeing
Dr. Price is a retired internist
with a background in psychosomatic medicine and an interest
in hypnosis and acupuncture.
He has spent many years
practicing and developing his
current treatment model based on
his belief that most non-structural
illnesses are related to, or affected
by, the mind/mental functions.
He therefore focuses on the
interaction between mind and
body and the compelling ways
that emotional, mental and spiritual
factors directly affect overall health.
He does this with Quantum
Acupuncture and/or Integrative Hypnosis using elements
from Rational Cognitive Therapy, NLP, Neuro-semantics,
Psychodynamics and meditation.
He also offers treatment for
various conditions believed to
respond to hypnotherapy and/
or acupuncture such as habits,
addictions, weight loss, phobias,
pain, and Tension Myositis
Syndrome—a painful disorder
that includes fibromyalgia, migraines
and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
