TASKBOB:
CREATING
HAPPY
HOUSEHOLD
WE SPOKE WITH ASEEM KHARE, CEO & FOUNDER, TASKBOB.
ADVT
TODAY, WE HAVE AN APP TO FIND PLACES, BUS TRAIN ROUTES,
AND EVEN RESTAURANTS. BUT, TASKBOB NOW GIVES YOU AN APP
TO FIND PEOPLE OR 'SERVICEMEN' TO DO YOUR DESIRED WORK
AND THAT TOO RIGHT AT YOUR DOORSTEP!
What is Taskbob?
Taskbob is a reliable one-stop solution for on-demand home services. Taskbob is a
platform that provides speedy home services to customers through its cutting-edge
mobile application. The one-of-its-kind app offers holistic solutions to all the three
quandaries faced by customers regarding the delivery time, quality and the price of such
home services. Customers simply have to tap on the required service on the mobile app of
Taskbob with the assurance of having servicemen at their doorstep. The platform
provides instant, reliable and standardized home services ranging from plumbing,
carpentry, electrical, home appliance repair, home and car cleaning to driver services. To
avail Taskbob services, one can tap on any of the service icons on the Taskbob app. Our
aim at Taskbob is to simplify the process right from finding a reliable serviceman to
ensuring service is completed satisfactorily and on-time.
Secondly, there was no transparency of pricing for the services within this sector. Most
technicians and serviceman charged depending on the spending capacity of the
customer. We wanted to change this completely. We wanted to professionalize these
services as well as standardize the pricing. We undertook extensive market research to
arrive at a standard cost for each of the services listed on our app. Customer satisfaction,
right pricing and on-time quality service has been our primary focus. We aim to provide
high quality services that speak for itself. We always welcome suggestions and feedback
from all our customers.
What was the idea behind launching Taskbob?
Which service at Taskbob is most searched for?
While doing my previous start-up of helping people pursue interests, I realised that people
in India, face much bigger problems. Problems such as finding a house, evading traffic,
getting home services done.
While getting any home service done, people in India are never sure about the time,
quality and the price of getting the service done. Taskbob was thus conceptualised to
create a happier India by addressing this everyday problem, of finding reliable and
professional home services, of every Indian.
Challenges faced
Our driver, cleaning and electrician service gets searched the most.
Everyone wants to travel in his/her own car but no one wants to drive. Our Driver service
comes to their rescue. Whether it's a lazy morning when you don't want to drive to work or
drop your kids to school or you going for shopping or parties, we always have a Taskbob
Driver for you.
Our Car detailing service has won many customers' hearts because we give their cars the
look they fell in love with, the showroom look. And we offer 100% cashback in case the
customer is not happy with our services.
The biggest challenge we faced initially was to identify and on-board qualified technicians
and servicemen. We then developed an in-house screening and training team. The
technicians are now thoroughly evaluated with regards to their ability through Taskbob's
in-house developed technical testing protocols.
Our Deep Home Cleaning section is doing exceptionally well, especially our recently
launched Regular cleaning, which comes very handy when your maid doesn't turn up.
Customers can get their rooms or objects cleaned individually or the whole house full
deep cleaned in one go.

How is Taskbob different from its
competitors?
While there are a few players in this
space looking to capitalize on the
hyperlocal home services market,
what is going to be the key from a
consumer's point of view is – which
company could consistently deliver a
good service to the consumer. We
believe that the company taking end
to end responsibility of the service
quality is what people in India are
looking forward to. Unlike our other
competitors, we do take that and make
sure that all our customers end up being
happy after each service. We only select top
10-20% servicemen we interview and thus we
have, by far, the most quality servicemen. Further,
we invest heavily in training our servicemen. Taskbob
also provides an in-house “merchant app” to make the
service assignment and completion amongst servicemen
operationally efficient, quicker, and seamless. More than 95% out
of 40,000 customers are satisfied with our servicemen. We are the highest rated home
services app on Google Play Store with a consistent high rating. Our service quality is far
ahead than other players in this segment.
We have a dedicated supply pool of 300 servicemen, which includes Electricians,
Carpenters, Plumbers, servicemen for Home Deep Cleaning, Car Cleaning and Drivers,
and is largest across all competitors. We have reserved 300 more servicemen, to cater to
our rapidly growing customer base.
What are your expansion plans?
The company has its focus on covering tier-1 cities as of now. We plans to fortify our
footprint in Mumbai and then broaden our horizon to other cities in our mission to 'Create
Happy Households'. Taskbob is now present all across Mumbai and Thane barring Navi
Mumbai, with plans to expand to other cities soon.
Information on servicemen
BORIVALI: The intelligence network of Railway
Protection Force is becoming stronger day by
day. After a tip off about an illegal E-ticketing
counter near Borivali station, the Inspector
Protection Force (IPF) instructed a team of RPF
personnel for surprise check.
The team found a racket of unauthorized Eticket selling at Om Sai Janta Bazar, near Goyal
Shopping Centre at L T Road Borivali West. The
raiding team found one person namely Manoj
Bholenath Gupta age-35yrs. There were 18 Etickets in his possession, worth Rs 62.143. The
team also found one Laptop and Rs. 700/- cash.
The apprehended person used to procure Etickets through personal different fake user IDs.
The team also found three diaries, one long
book, one rubber stamp, one Wi-Fi adapter, one
mobile phone on which bookings used to be
done.
The raiding team apprehended Manoj Gupta

We believe we can win the trust and loyalty of the consumers only by delivering what we
promise and thus, equipping our servicemen with the right skills is of utmost importance to
us. Taskbob already has 300 servicemen on board. We have a stringent process in place
to rope in servicemen that includes short listing based on experience and expertise,
personal interviews, technical and soft skill tests and background checks. The selected
candidates then go through training programmes that include skill development, briefing
about the company, roles and responsibilities, Taskbob work ethics and professional
grooming sessions.
We have trained and certified professionals who are proficient in tackling all sorts of
service issues that every home has to deal with frequently. We wish to build a qualitative
and reliable handymen service platform in order to provide seamless and superlative ondemand home services to our customers and thus create happy households all across the
country.

Plans afoot for upgrading
Borivali station
Mewati Sitaram
BORIVALI: Commuters who travel from
Borivali railway station can now heave a sigh
of relief. The western railway is gearing up
for easy movement of passengers on
Borivali railway station. There is a plan for
easy entry and exit of passengers at Borivali
station and construction of toilet blocks on
all platforms.
The expansion plan also includes
construction of deck on platform number
one which would be approximately ten-feet
wide. This deck would be connected with all
existing platforms. The plan also includes
widening of platforms. The project work
would be undertaken by Mumbai Rail Vikas
Corporation (MRVC) and Construction wing
of the Western Railway. The estimated
budget for this project is approximately Rs
35 Crore. Railways will spend Rs 22 crore for
the Borivali project whereas Rs 13 crore
would be spent on Kandival railway station.
If everything goes as per plan, the project
would be completed by March 2016.
The deck at Borivali station would have
the Western railways first double discharge
escalators cum staircase. This would be
installed on platform number four and five.
The new escalator would make passengers
movement quicker and smoother. The
construction department of western railway
will construct staircase. Main feature of deck
is, it would be connected with all platforms
and it also would be connected with BMC's
skywalk. The deck would facilitate and help
in passenger movement freely without
approaching roads on lower level of the
platforms.
It may be noted that Borivali is a one of
the most important railway stations of
suburban Mumbai. Almost all leading trains
including Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto and
others halt here. Besides, is a regular flow of
passengers who commute by local trains
due to which the station becomes
overcrowded and inadequate to handle
passenger flow.
Prabhat Ranjan, Chief Public Relation
Officer (CPRO)– Mumbai Rail Vikas
Corporation (MRVC) said “Foot over bridge
at the South end of Borivali station is in its
advanced state of completion. We have
targeted four escalators, work for which has
already commenced. Hopefully it would be
completed by December end 2015.”
Shishir Shetty, a local activist and
resident of Kandivali says “There are no
basic amenities like toilets. The passengers
who are outbound travellers, reach on
platforms much before the arrival of
scheduled trains. Senior citizens and ladies
face too many difficulties for attending to
natures call as there are no toilets. There is

no adequate parking space on the East and
West side of platforms. The railway
administration should consider making slope
foot over bridges for easy movement of
physically challenged and senior citizens.”
POWAI GARDEN, LAKE
RESTRICTS PUBLIC ENTRY
Mewati Sitaram
POWAI: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has put
restrictions on Kojagiri Purnima or Sharad Purnima days to public
not to enter or wait in the vicinity of Powai garden or Powai lake.
The BMC has permitted public to enter Powai garden or Powai Lake
on October 25, 26, 27 between 7am to 5pm. The Powai Garden and
Powai lake promenade would be out of public reach from Sunset to
Sunrise (5pm to 7am) on all three days.
The BMC has appealed to the public to co-operate with the BMC
administration during this period to avoid untoward incidences.
One of the senior BMC officials on the condition of anonymity said,
“Kojagiri purnima is a very auspicious day and the public moves out
of their houses to celebrate full moon night. Powai garden is within

signifies the end of the monsoon. A special celebration is associated
with this day known as 'Kaumudi,' meaning moonlight. At night,
devotees worship Goddess Lakshmi and stay awake throughout
the night. Every year, this auspicious day begins on the full Moon
day of the Hindu month Ashvin. In most regions, it is known as
Laxmi Puja, also known as Kojagiri Purnima. As India is an
agricultural nation, Sharad Poornima is also one of the harvest
festivals of India.
Avinash Sawant, Local MNS Corporator said “Several untoward
incidents took place at Powai lake promenade in the past. To avoid
the same, precautionary measure has been initiated by the BMC. I
also appeal to the public to avoid visiting these spots from sunset to
sunrise. I have also written a letter to the concerned police station
to deploy additional police forces for safety and security of public on
Kojagiri Purnima.”

Dussera's Golden Touch
Janhavi Samant
ANDHERI: Whether its weddings or festivals, any celebration is
incomplete without the purchase of gold in India. Dussehra is
considered one of the most auspicious times for purchasing
something new and that of course includes gold jewellery. Nothing
can stem the sentiment for gold buying at this time, not even the
current high price of the precious metal.
“Indians consider festivals as a very auspicious time to do
something or start something new. People even consider gold
buying as auspicious and more so buying it on auspicious festivals
like Dussera. Apart from this day, even Akshaya Tritiya and
Dhanteras during Diwali are considered to be very auspicious for
buying gold,” said Tarachand Jain, who owns a jewellery shop in
Zaveri Bazaar in south Mumbai.
Despite the steep hike in gold prices in the last decade, the
festival spirit of buying gold still continues unabated. “In 2010, the
price of gold was nearly Rs 31,000 for 10 gms. It went down to Rs
27,000 in 2012 during festival season and has been hovering at that
mark this year as well. We are expecting the prices to rise marginally
during the festival season,” added Jain.
Pooja Rege, an Andheri resident, said that they have been
buying gold on Dussera for the past 8-9 years. “It has become a
ritual for us to buy gold on Dussera. Every year we as a family go to
buy gold jewellery. It doesn't have to be a huge quantity, even a
small gold ring or earrings are enough,” said Rege, a media
professional.
A jeweler who owns a shop in Andheri West said that, they do
their regular customers, who like Rege, purchase gold every
Dussehra. Moreover, every year they witness an increase in the
number of customers despite there being price rise during the
festival. “We have few fixed customers who visit every year. Though
the quantity of jewellery purchased by them has been going down,
they still do come very year. Hence for our fixed customers we have
special discounts over and above the general discounts,” said the
jeweler.
Another shift in purchasing patterns of customers is that earlier
the trend was that people would buy more jewellery. Recently, due
to the recession and the rising gold prices, people have shifted to
buying more of gold coins than jewellery. “Our customers prefer
gold coins during festivals. People even look at buying gold like an
investment,” said another jeweler from Andheri east.
Harshada Mhatre, an Oshiwara resident, said that since she was
a child they have been purchasing gold on Dussera. “Earlier my
father used to buy me jewellery or a gold coin. Now I do it myself.
Even if it is just a small gold con, it adds to our investment every
year,” she added.
So no matter to what level the gold prices rise, in India, festivals
like Dussehra will never lose the golden touch!

Jogeshwari Rail Over bridge
Adds to Traffic Woes
Janhavi Samant
ANDHERI: The newly inaugurated Jogeshwari rail over bridge was
supposed to help ease traffic but, in fact, it has actually become the
cause of traffic snarls. According to the regular commuters, it has
become a nightmare to ply vehicles on this bridge in peak hours
because of traffic congestion.
Soumitro Sen, an advertising professional staying in Veera Desai
road said, “We have been waiting for this bridge for a while hoping
that it will ease the traffic and improve the connectivity. Alas!”
The rail over bridge was inaugurated last month by Shiv Sena
chief Uddhav Thackeray. The bridge was supposed to ease traffic
congestion between the eastern end of the Western Express
Highway and Jogeshwari Vikroli Link Road (JVLR) towards
Jogeshwari West.
"Earlier, we prayed each day for the bridge's connection. Now
that it has opened, I feel, it was better earlier," said Mahesh Mane,
daily commuter. He added that, “during non-peak hours, it is the
best route to take if one has to go east to west or vice-versa.
However, this is the worst route to take in peak hours. It can take as
much as 30-45 minutes to cross this area," said Mane.
Traffic officials agree that after the new rail over bridge was
opened to the public, it has only increased traffic jams. "During peak
hours, the number of vehicles using this bridge is high. This is
leading to traffic snarls," said a traffic official posted at the
Jogeshwari Vikroli Link Road junction.
The traffic official added that the traffic congestion problem is
temporary and should be resolved once the construction of another
wing of the bridge is complete. "We are hoping that once the
construction of the bridge is complete, and the other wing too is
open to the commuters, this problem will get resolved as both the
wings will help divert the flow of traffic," the official said. He also
added that the higher traffic officials are also planning to have an
alternative plan in place to temporarily solve the traffic woes.
Presently commuters from Oshiwara and Jogeshwari have to
take a detour from Andheri subway or Goregaon. “We have to spend
over Rs 50 in terms of auto fare to cross the railway tracks because
of the traffic. We are hoping that once this bridge is fully open, it will
cost just about Rs 20 in an auto rickshaw,” said Srijith Pillai,
Oshiwara resident.
Railway officials are also eagerly waiting for the Brihanmumbai
Municipal Corporation to finish the work so that they can fast track
the work of Oshiwara railway station and inaugurate it.

Is the SC decision on
dance bars justified?
The controversial law banning dance bars in Maharashtra,
which provided employment to thousands of women, was put
on hold by the Supreme Court last week. The Court, however,
said the dignity of women should be protected and it was the
duty of the state police to ensure that it was done. Mumbai
Mseenger's Reynold D'Sa asks Mumbaikars what they felt
about the issue...
Kamal Saurabh, 36: It is a good decision
to start the dance bars again in Mumbai. It
could prove to be an alternative to some of
the middle class people to vent out their
frustration. It is a tradition that has been
followed in India since a very long time.
This move will also provide employment
opportunity for women.
Parmanand Sharma, 24: If the Supreme
Court has decided to lift the ban, then they
have to be right. As a democratic nation,
we need to believe in the Apex court. The
problem with the dance bar earlier was the
dress code which was followed. It is a good
decision but they should also ensure safety
of the bar dancers.
Sutank Shukla, 23: Of course it is a
welcomed decision. It will help a lot of
women to earn money and will not force
them to get into prostitution and other
unnecessary businesses. The government
should also think about poor people like
middle class and lower middle class. Dance
bars are a costly option for them.
Themur Khan, 27: Now that the dance
bars have started, it will only mean that
there will be a lot of black money floating in
the market. On one hand it is good that it
will provide employment to a lot of women
but then the government has to provide
enough security for the women and the
bar owners should also look after them.

ONE MAN WITH DUAL HATS
Tarun Thakral, Chief Operating Officer Le Meridien New Delhi
There are very few people, who, despite
hectic schedule always think out of the
box and believe in creativity. Tarun
Thakral, Chief Operating Officer (COO)
of Luxurious Le Meridien Hotel New
Delhi, is one such example. He
established Heritage Transport Museum
(HTM) in Bilaspur - Taoru Road at
Gurgaon. It has been built and being run
by HTM is a registered non-profit Trust. It
is one of a kind and a first private museum
of its scale in India. It is conceived as a
space that not only provides a glimpse
into the history of travel in India, but also
engages with visitors through its carefully
designed information ecosystem. The
museum sets a benchmark in
interpretation, exhibition and in
communication. HTM is dedicated to
provide visitors an enjoyable and
engaging museum experience. Senior
Journalist MEWATI SITARAM in
conversation with Tarun Thakral,
Founder HTM...
What made you conceptualize
Heritage Transport Museum (HTM)?
Everything I do is part of my passion. I do
the things I like. It's sort of a bigger
version of having more than one hobby
beside my normal job. I love to do things which make me happier.
Conceptualising new things is spontaneous and I realised it in
1990. I was pursuing MBA which was awarded by French
Government under their scholarship in International Hospitality
Management. During my course, I saw my roommate (a French
National) and other international students actively pursuing their
hobbies. There I realized that in India the pressure of studies from
our parents is so much that we often do not pursue any of our
in museum is representative of not just the
objects directly related to transport but
also of the socio-cultural life and art
associated with it. There are rich and
diverse collection of vehicles and
associated memorabilia. The collection
includes over 75 vintage and classic cars,
over 25 pre mechanized modes of
transport including palanquins, horse
carriages, bullock carts, camel carts, over
20 heavy mechanized modes of transport
including busses & vans, over 30 vintage
& classic two wheelers, a 1930 railway
saloon, a 1947 piper aircraft and over 5
indigenous modes of transport. Besides,
there is a huge collection of lithographs,
photo graphs, books and memorabilia
pertaining to the transport history of
India.
Which is your prized possession?
There are many prized possessions on
display but prominent includes the only
Indian flag that has gone to the moon. The
small bird cart with wheels from the Indus
Valley Civilization, my first car which is a
1932 Chevrolet Phaeton and the 1930
meter gauge Rail saloon built by Sheffield
of United Kingdom.
How many total articles are displayed in HTM and any more to
arrive?
The museum is home to more than 2,500 curated objects on display
that weave a tale of India's colourful transportation history. The
large and varied collection of this museum has been categorized
into various sections: pre-mechanized & heavy mechanized
transportation, railways, aviation, maritime, collectible Indian toys
on transport, rural & indigenous transportation, two wheelers and
Tushar Sharma, 27: Everyone knows that
dance bars were never completely shut.
They were running illegally at a lot of places.
It is good that the dance bars have now
reopened legally; they will provide women
employment opportunities. The norms given
by the court should be followed and there
should be enough security for the dance girls
at any cost.
Rajesh, 44: Opening dance bars is a
good decision but then the government
needs to be very careful because in the
past dance bars in Mumbai led to a lot of
problem, like gang wars, black money,
illegal prostitution. The government will
have to take care of all of this. Besides,
there will be employment for people.
Sudhir Sawant, 31: The not only the
dance bar but also the normal bar should be
shut down. Bars are one of the places where
all the criminals meet; it is like bars give birth
to criminals. Dance bar is providing
employment for a lot of women but can the
government and the court instead of dance
bar open some other organization and
employ these women?
SM KABEER/MM
Snehal, 29: Dance bars should be shut
because it will lead to lot of crime in Mumbai.
If dance bars are opened, a lot of black
money will float in the market, which is also
corruption. Besides banning the dance bars
they should also ban thousand rupees notes
because the thousand rupee notes make it
easier for people to spread corruption.
Kirti Vohra, 74: It is a good decision by
the Supreme Court and we all should
respect it. The owners should provide
enough security for women though and
ensure they are taken care of. All the rules
should be followed. If the norm says it
should shut down by 1 am then the bar
must be closed by that time.
childhood hobbies like philately, coin collecting, etc. Our focus is
just studies. Whereas International students continued their passion
and despite being a demanding MBA program many took out time
to follow their hobbies. When I returned to India in 1993 on one of
my trips to Rajasthan, I got fascinated with old oil lamps,
gramophone players, etc. On another trip, a few months later, I saw
an old dilapidated 1932 Chevrolet car and it was love at first sight.
This triggered my passion for vintage cars. Sometime in 2005 I
realized that my collection had grown to be very large and I was
finding it difficult to manage it. This is when I thought of building a
Museum so that the collection could be looked after and people
from all walks of life could get access to the same. Having a hobby
and pursuing ones passion is always a great stress buster!
It requires huge investment to procure articles...how did you
arrange it?
Indeed it requires huge investment to pursue your hobby, that too in
transports. Being single till 2003 also helped me pursue my dream
of collecting. I used to save monthly so that I could spend on my
collection. I used to travel to small town and villages to build my
collection. If there is a will, there is a way. Being salaried, I was
fortunate that the Ministry of Culture, Government of India
recognized my collection and gave a grant of Rs 6.0 crores to partly
offset the cost of construction. Donors came forward and we were
able to set up the museum at a cost of Rs 12.0 crores.
What is the total area of your HTM?
HTM is built on a 3 acre complex and spread over four air
conditioned floors that offer over 100,000 square feet of exhibition
space, a library and reference centre, a mini auditorium, a museum
souvenir shop, seminar rooms and a refreshment area.
What types of transport have you procured for display?
India's first comprehensive transport museum brings alive the
history and evolution of transport heritage in India. The collection
popular & tribal art section. The museum is also rich in
contemporary art collection displayed at various sections
throughout the museum.
Which places did you bring these items from?
I love and believe in collecting exclusive and rare items from
different places from India and abroad. However Gujrat and
Rajsthan boasts to have rare objects which are globally popular, my
majority of the objects have come from these two states.
Who are the leading visitors at HTM?
I am proud to say that HTM is synonyms for exclusive objects
displayed in it and one of its kinds. India's leading Architects,
Artists, Film makers, Designers, Corporate Heads, Researchers,
Foreign dignitaries have come to the Museum. India's top
celebrities and luminaires have visited it; I would not like naming
them for the fear of missing out on some.
Does HTM levy an entrance fee and who maintains it on a dayto-day basis?
There are too many overheads to manning and maintaining an
exclusive World class museum. The Museum levies a day entry
charge of Rs 300/- for adults, children under 12 years and students a
day entry charge of Rs 150. Children under 3 years of age and
persons with special needs are guests of the Museum. The team at
the Museum comprises of the curatorial staff, marketing
executives, restoration specialists, housekeeping staff & security.
Any expansion plans?
Not in the immediate future but depending on the response and
visitor feedback, we may expand or lend our expertise to other
individuals/associations who are intending to build Museums in
other parts of India.

Did Roopal Tyagi plan
Ankit Gera's ouster from Bigg Boss?
With the popular television actor Ankit Gera being
unceremoniously ousted from India's number one reality
show Bigg Boss 9 in the first week itself, people are raising
fingers at Bollywood master manipulator Dale Bhagwagar
who has handled the PR for maximum Bigg Boss
contestants.
Apparently, two weeks before BB9 started, the public
relations expert interacted with Ankit for a PR deal which
did not materialize. After this he interacted with his exgirlfriend Roopal Tyagi.
What conspired between them is not known yet, but
Dale is being grilled by the Twitterati. Reason being, last
week the publicist had posted on the social media platform
that he has introduced a new form of guerilla warfare PR
for the first time in the world.
The legion of Ankit's fans have been speculating that
the scheming PR guru gave tips to Roopal with which she
strategically demonized Ankit's image in the first week of
the show, resulting in negative publicity, with fans being
disillusioned and not voting in his favour.
"It is true that I interacted with Ankit and then with
Roopal before the show. But then, I also interacted with
others like Suyyash Rai and Kishwar Merchant. They are
not my official PR clients. My clients are Aman Verma,
Mandana Karimi and Vikas Bhalla for BB9," clarifies Dale.
When we asked Dale if he coached Roopal on Ankit, he
evaded the question saying, "I have always been open
about the fact that publicists train, plan, plot and plug. But
I do that mainly for my clients only," he adds.
Ankit's fans are hoping that their idol re-enters the Bigg
Boss House as a Wild Card Entry soon.
After a week of standing for what she believes in, Bigg Boss 9
housemate Mandana Karimi got loads of accolades for her looks too.
Actor Shahid Kapoor who entered the Bigg Boss House with Alia
Bhatt for the promotion of Shaandaar, told the housemates that
people outside are quite enamoured by Mandana's looks. Akash
Soni, senior anchor from IBN 7, Delhi, broke into a Persian poetry
song for her and called Mandana "the only realistic and honest
person in the House."
Even Sonam Kapoor, who joined Salman for the promotion of
their movie Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, judged Mandana her favourite.
She praised the Iranian import for improving her Hindi and making
good rajma (kidney beans) on the show.
As if that was not enough, actor Ayushmann Khurrana who
was also a guest on the weekend episodes, applauded her for
"understanding the Bigg Boss game and planning the best."
Salman retorted in jest that Ayushmann was calling her
"manipulative" and "scheming", but Mandana said that going
by the format of the show, she takes Ayushmann's comment
as a compliment.
"I have asked Mandana to be herself on the show; but
expressive and assertive in difficult times. And that is
exactly how she is facing the situations inside. Am
proud of her grit and determination," tweeted her
publicist Dale Bhagwagar.
"We have seen the brainy
and strong side of Mandana, but
she also has a very emotional as well
as glamourous side," he revealed on
social media, indicating that she is still
an unexplored package on Bigg
Boss.
Meanwhile, the highlights of the
next episode showed the gutsy gal
countering her partner Keith
Sequeira, who she is tied up with.
"I'm not going to get
brainwashed by you," she was
heard telling Keith during a
task.
Vikas Bhalla's emotional side
Vikas Bhalla we hear made sure he spent every minute with his family
before entering the Bigg Boss house.
The actor has always been a family man and hence the idea of staying
away for months from family did make him uneasy in the beginning. Hence
he made sure he even took a short holiday with his family for some me
time so he could carry those memories into the house. Infact his children
were more encouraging of him going inside and they were stronger than
him and constantly supportive of Vikas's decision we hear.

REALITY SHOW AND THEN JUDGING
IT THE NEXT SEASON, SHE HAS DONE
IT ALL... IN AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
WITH SHAILI MADAN, LAUREN
TALKS ABOUT HER PROJECTS, LIFE
AND JOURNEY TILL DATE...
Tell me about your current projects...
Right now, I am learning Punjabi language for a Punjabi film by
Tips called 'Ambarsariya.' It is really quite funny but as am taking
lessons in Punjabi, I am realising that I am much more fluent in
Punjabi than in Hindi. The language comes to me so naturally.
Jackson of India! I was overwhelmed and floored. I knew when I
managed to give up my ego and shift my energies and that very
time the gates opened up for me. I woke up my parents at 4am
to tell them I had made a decision to enter Bollywood. I just knew
that I had to come.
Was language a barrier to adjust to the industry?
Coming to India itself was a huge, life changing decision. I left
everything behind... and I knew I had to adopt to an entirely new
culture, new lifestyle, new place. Even the work culture in the US
is completely different from it is here. Once I started
understanding and being part of this place, things started coming
naturally to me. The same was with learning the language – with
the passage of time, it has become easier to understand and
speak.
How was your experience judging Jhalak dhilka Ja?
Jhalak Dikhla Ja has given me the best memories of my life. I
started an actor, became a contestant and now a judge... my
journey has been great.
How did India happen to you?
I love both, acting and dancing. I was in the process of giving up
dance and get into acting. One day, I was very upset as one of
my best friends had bagged the role in the 'Step Up' movie that I
had been trying for and that had been my dream job. I was
devastated. Even though my manager kept consoling me and I
wanted to be happy for her, my ego did not allow that. It was
only after four hours that I finally managed to shift my energy
and was deeply excited for my friend from my inner heart and
that's when at 4 in the morning I got an email that Remo D'Souza
had seen me in 'So You Think You Can Dance' and decided that
he wanted to bring me to Bollywood and offered me the lead role
in ABCD. I knew little about Bollywood then, and started looking
online for who Remo was. I got to know that he is the Michael
Who are the best dancers in the industry according to
you?
I feel I have a lot of training where dance is concerned. It is the
best language that I know. And like anything else, dancing is an
art, which you hone with practice. The learning never ends. By
far, according to me Hritik Roshan is an amazing dancer. He has
so much energy and knows his moves right. Anyone who has
seen him, knows he dances so well and with a lot of ease.
What do you miss about the United States the most?
I miss my family, my dog, my friends. I guess its a really hard
thing staying away from everyone and everything you have grown
up with. I love Indian food though I really miss my Italian food
back there.
What is your favourite Indian dish?
I love Butter chicken – its my cheat food. Besides I also love Dal
Makhani.

and marketing, an academician, an expert

Where do you see yourself five years from now...
I try not to think about it. If I tell my parents that I am going to
be here for the next five, ten or fifteen years, they would freak
out. One thing that my dad told me before I left was that I am
'not' allowed to date while I am here. He was serious. And I
realise, that he knows if I fall in love here, I would eventually get
married and stay back, which he does not want. I also believe
that I was meant to be here. Bollywood happened to me out of
nowhere, while I was leading a normal life back there, doing
Hollywood. So you never know what happens next, which is the
most interesting part of the industry. At the end of the day,
whether it is Hollywood or Bollywood, I believe in giving my
hundred percent.
How do you keep fit?
I work out a lot. Earlier, I used to hit the gym without a trainer.
But now I have realised that my trainer keeps my workout on
schedule when I have so many things on hand to do. I also do
Pilates, which is gradually becoming very popular in India and am
very happy about it. I practice Yoga. I also love to run. So I keep
alternating between these forms, which keeps my fitness regime
interesting.
What is your philosophy of life?
I believe in being a good person and an honest person. It breaks
my heart when I see people being dishonest. I don't understand
why they do that. I try and not take things too seriously. I believe
in working very hard. Everyone has goals that they want to
achieve... so its good to work towards achieving that.

Biggest
Home Decor Mistakes
You Can Make!!!
DECORATING IS A PROCESS, AND THERE WILL UNDOUBTEDLY BE HITS AND MISSES BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO LEARN EVERY INTERIOR DESIGN LESSON THE HARD WAY.
SAVE YOURSELF SOME HEARTACHE AND DOLLARS BY AVOIDING THESE
REGRETTABLE DECORATING DISASTERS.
1. Painting Without Testing the Color First
You see a color you like so you buy it and start painting
your walls, right? Wrong! Colors can look completely
different on your wall than they do on the paint chip.
Painting swatches on your wall and seeing how they
look in different light might postpone your paint job by
a week or two, but it will save you so much frustration
down the road.
Hacks to Looking
Like a Celeb
Lesson #1: Shorts are the new miniskirts:
Dressy shorts are solving all our style conundrums for a
night out. Take for instance, Lucy Hale who sported a lacy
version with a crop top and glammed it up with heels and
a sling bag. The styling options are endless – a tailored
blazer and camisole is first date appropriate while a
chambray shirt works for a more casual do.
Lesson #2: How to whitewash your complete
outfit:
White is the new black. There we said it! Diana
Penty shows us how it's done in a white suit and
shirt by Anita Dongre that she paired with some
nude pumps and a single statement earring. Clean
and simple – isn't that how dressing should be?
Lesson #3: Athleisure is the trend to look out for:
If you aren't an athleisure enthusiast already, you
should probably look into investing in some sportsinspired clothing pieces now. It's dominated the
Autumn/Winter 2015 runways at Tommy Hilfiger
and Paco Rabanne. Kangana Ranaut seems to
have gotten the memo, too. Her tank dress by
Mary Katrantzou for Adidas paired with some
white sneakers is pure sporty perfection.
Lesson #4: You can't go wrong with a structured
shirt
We love everything structured. Which is why this
look by Kristen Stewart was a definite favourite.
Her boxy shirt paired with some well-tailored shorts
is an easy winner. Boxy shirts are a piece worth
spending your pennies on purely because of how versatile
they are – team a slightly cropped boxy shirt with some
slim fit high waisted trousers for a clean office appropriate
look. Swap the pants for some denim shorts and you're
weekend ready.
Lesson #5: Make the thigh high boot your next buy:
Another big trend for the next season, the over-the-knee boot
is often considered intimidating, but Emily Ratajkowski makes
it look like the easiest thing to wear. Sweater dresses and
thigh high boots are an almost full-proof combination. Not on
board with wearing dresses? Pair with skinny jeans instead.
Lesson #6: Replace checks and stripes with chevron:
It's time to refresh your wardrobe with chevron. Take cue
from Dia Mirza who wore this patterned shift dress by Payal
Khandwala that she paired with some gold heels and an
envelope clutch by Chloé. If you don't want to jump in at the
deep end on this trend yet, you can still dip your toes in by
sporting the print on accessories.
2. Buying a Shag Rug
With their plush pile and cozy-chic demeanor, shag
rugs, like on-trend flokatis, are easy to fall for. The
problem is they shed more than a Labrador Retriever. A
few homeowners get used to living with the snowstorm
of wool that no amount of vacuuming can completely
eliminate, but most find that it's not worth the effort
and get rid of the rug altogether.
3. Installing Marble Countertops
Like that sexy pair of designer stilettos that no amount
of logic will convince you not to buy, marble
countertops are too pretty for many homeowners to
resist. They purchase them starry-eyed, believing that
the beauty of the material will make up for the highmaintenance upkeep; however, they inevitably regret
their decision as soon as the first scratches and stains
set in, which is right away. For a more durable
alternative, consider the new and improved
quartz countertops.
4. Decorating With an Aggressively
Colored Sofa
You can always up the "wow" factor
of your seating with easily changed
accent pillows and blankets, but
when you buy the actual sofa in a
loud color or over-the-top print,
you're stuck. It might seem ontrend and appealing at the time, but a
couple years later when your entire
living room design is held hostage by the
sofa's dominant design, you'll be dreaming of a
neutral sofa.
5. Rushing to Decorate
Trying to complete all your decorating at once is a
huge mistake. Sure, having a full furniture set in every
room shortly after you move in feels good, for a
second. Then you actually live in the space and notice
that the curtains you bought don't block enough light in
the sun-facing living room, find an antique bed you like
more than the sterile matching bedroom set you
purchased online in one mouse click, and realize that
the office and guest room spaces should be swapped.
Unfortunately, you've already blown your budget, and
now you're stuck. Great design takes time. Don't rush
it.
6. Putting Off Basic Renovations Until After You
Move In
The floors are scuffed up, but is it really worth pushing
back your move-in date to resurface them? The answer
is a resounding "yes" if you ask any homeowner who
had to live through a floor resurfacing project, major
paint job, or kitchen reno. Staying put for another
month while the work is done is much less painful in
the long run than having to live alongside the
construction or, worse yet, putting it off inevitably
because there's no convenient time to do it after you've
moved in.
7. Purchasing a Cheap Piece of Furniture That
Needs Reupholstering
That out-of-this-world deal on the tufted armchairs you
found on Craigslist might not be all it seems. If
reupholstering is a prerequisite for putting a piece of
furniture in your home, make sure you price it out
before you buy it. The cost of reupholstering can be
shockingly high and is often more expensive than just
buying the furniture brand new. If you don't do the
math, you could end up stuck with a heinous '70s
floral-fabric-covered loveseat or a musty, moth-eaten
sofa in your living room.
8. Covering Floors With White Carpeting
Clean white underfoot seems chic and alluring, and if
you're a clean person who doesn't have any pets or
children, it might even seem feasible that you can keep
white carpeting or a white area rug looking nice. Let us
debunk that idea for you right now. You can't. Even if
you make your house shoe-free and vacuum every day,
a dirt-tinted discoloration is inevitable.
YOUR SIGNATURE NAIL COLOUR SPEAKS VOLUMES
When you're faced with the wall of polishes at a nail salon and finally pick a color, you're not just making a style
choice — you're making a personal statement. Turns out you gravitate toward a hue that best represents you
without even knowing it. Here, is a polish personality breakdown.
IF YOU TURN TO:
Reds: A crimson manicure is classic and timeless, and wearing a scarlet mani means you're elegant and effortlessly
chic.
Black: Equal parts edgy and complex, a black mani exudes confidence.
Neons: Because neon lacquer is so bright and loud, there's no denying it will get you
noticed. If you're wearing it, chances are you're outgoing and adventurous.
Whites: Wearing an of-the-moment white manicure adds a youthful and modern
element to your look. On your nails, it signals that you're trendy and cool.
Blues: With so many varying depths, blue is super-versatile and experimental, and
suggests that you're creative and forward-thinking.
Nudes: Barely there nudes are perfect for every occasion and the color is superforgiving when it comes to DIY applications. A nude mani reads as low-maintence
and unfussy.
Pastels: If you love a soft, sweet, and muted pastel polish, it means you're a romantic at
heart.
Pinks: If your go-to hue is pink, you're fun, flirty, ultra-feminine, and love being a girly-girl.
Oxblood: This moody red is the sexiest of all polishes. Consider yourself a total vixen if this is your signature shade.

Celebs Shine At Smita Patil's
First Authorized Biography
Sachin Murdeshwar
BANDRA: on October 17, HarperCollins
Publishers India launched Smita Patil's
first authorized biography – Smita Patil:
A Brief Incandescence by Maithili Rao, at
the luxurious French hotel, Sofitel
Mumbai BKC.
The biography traces the life of the
talented actor from her childhood to her
stardom, her controversial marriage and
untimely death. It also includes a sharp
critique of the films that defined her and
that read like a roster of the best of New
Indian Cinema.
In attendance as the chief guest was
Amitabh Bachchan. Shyam Benegal,
Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Nandita
Das, Sonali Kulkarni, Mohan Agashe,
Prateik Babbar, Anita Patil, Jabar Patel,
Prahlad Kakkar also graced the occasion
with their presence.
About A Brief Incandescence: By the
time she died at the impossibly young
age of thirty one, Smita Patil was
recognized as one of India's finest
actors ever. In a career spanning a mere
ten years, she came to be regarded as
one of the leading lights of the New
Indian Cinema of the mid-1970s and
had a body of work that would have
made veterans proud. It also includes a
sharp critique of the films that defined
her and that read like a roster of the
best of New Indian Cinema: Bhumika,
Mandi, Manthan, Samna, Bhavni Bhavai
and Mirch Masala, among others, as
also the unfortunate forays into
mainstream commercial cinema.
Incisive and insightful, and marked
by great empathy for its subject, this is
an invaluable addition to film studies in
India in the way it brings alive an entire
era of meaningful Indian cinema.

“Blue voice”
Solo Show of
Paintings
Well-known artist Balaji Ubale is showing
his recent work in Hirji Jehangir Art
Gallery, Kala Ghoda, from October 19-25.
In the artists words: The subject of
my paintings is Lord Krishna. I constantly
visualise Krishna in the Nature. To me,
Krishna in the Nature is more realistic
than the Krishna in the temple. He, to me
means, the one in the dark clouds, the
one in the unfathomable blue waters. I
firmly believe, and I feel it is undebatable
that Krishna is an integral part of the
Indian life and culture. Because
innumerable forms of Krishna have been
perceived equally by saints, men, women
& children for ages. Krishna is the one
who granted salvation to the saints, the one who blessed his worshipers with
cognizant values of spiritualism, the one who taught the values of life to the youth,
the one who bestowed the prosaic people with the energy to live & the one who
became an object of play to kids. He is also the one, pledged to serve the triumph
of virtue and the virtuous and penalize the sinful. Ultimately he is the one who
helps the human at various stages of their life in reaching their final goal. The
kernel is that he is the sole symbol of the hope to one and all...
The method of my paintings is that I apply acrylic colours with the help of brush
to create the basic texture on the canvas. Then I draw the paintings of my
favourite Krishna the embodiment of everything. For me, Krishna symbolized the
depth and prevalence- may be the depth and prevalence of devotion, dedication,
love, service, spiritualism, life and many more...

India is a nation which has been a
pulling factor for the whole world since
time immemorial. There could be several
factors associated with it. The rich
Gangetic plains, the vast culture, the
Great Himalayas and so on...
Buddhism has been the greatest gift
to mankind, it is a religion of peace. In a
way, peace is the final outcome of a just
and equal society. Prince Siddhartha was
born in Lumbini in Nepal, but he became
Buddha in Bihar. So, we the Indians should be proud of the fact that Buddhism is
our gift to mankind and in the northern most district of our nation i.eLadakh, it still
exists more or less in its true form. The “frozen” civilization of Ladakh, reminds us
how ancient our civilization is. The calm and serene world that exists there is not a
thing of the past , but a treasure preserved for the future.
It is believed that even Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) wanted to
visit India. Hence, in the medieval times, several Muslim warriors and robbers
came to India (particularly Dilli) but with the passage of time, they settled down
here. After 1150 A.D, Muslim rulers not only established their kingdoms, but also
contributed to the growth of the civilization and composite culture.

FESTIVALS WORLD
OVER ARE FULL OF
AMUSEMENT
Darshana Doshi
I love festivals as I get to observe fascinating people from around the world. I also
love the vibrant kaleidoscope of colourful props, sunny spirit, liberated acts and
weird makeover that gets me a life. The energy emitted by teeming millions, that I
experienced at Chicago Blues Festival, The Pride Parade at San Fransisco and Riocarnival in Brazil, is simply stunning.
Chicago Blues Festival held every year at Grant Park is the largest free Blues fest
in the world. On entering the Park, I spotted a stage and walked towards it. Magic
was created shortly by a black female singer in golden hair who made an entry,
roaring, “My sister's in Chicago. I am fifty and this is my new twenty” and belted out
a song unfolding woman's struggle. Her pulsating dance moves including rolling on
the ground and robust voice drew many of us closer to the stage. We all connected
through music forgetting our skin colour, caste and creed. Later we learnt that she
was Roach from Cafe R&B, a five-piece band from Los Angeles. There were a
couple of stages between which we hopped through the day, listening to various
singers. The grand finale had a huge stage lit up in the night where popular singers
like Billy Branch, Keshia Dixonand Sugar Blue filled the air with soulful lyrics as
some sang along, danced or simply sipped beer.
The Pride Parade in San Francisco, which is the largest gathering of lesbian, gay,
bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) from all over America, was an eye opener.
Amidst the rainbow flags, smooches between same gender, bizarre messages, and

SPACE-THEMED hotels
that are out of the world

etween Nasa's recent discovery of liquid water on Mars, last month's
Super Blood Moon and the recent meteor shower, Ridley Scott's scifi thriller and box-office blockbuster The Martian, and the seventh
installment of the Star Wars saga The Force Awakens, (out this
December), news about all things extraterrestrial have really been taking
off lately. Pun intended.
And it's pretty clear that our fascination with a world beyond our own
isn't going away anytime soon. For years, companies like Virgin Galactic
and Space Adventures have been promoting zero gravity atmospheric
flights for civilians in the hopes of creating a sub-orbital space tourism
industry. But with the hefty price tag of $250,000 a pop, a seat on board is
just a bit out of reach for the everyday space-obsessed human.
Fear not, mere mortals; it turns out you don't have to orbit the galaxy to
get an out-of-this world experience. Right here, on planet earth, hotels
around the world are taking space-station chic to another dimension with
everything from robot butlers to floating beds.
The Kameha Grand Zürich Hotel, Switzerland: Earlier this month,
The Kameha Grand Zürich Hotel in Switzerland opened the doors to its
signature Space Suite. From blastoff, guests are greeted by a robotic female
voice inspired by John Carpenter's 1974 classic film Dark Star before logging
in to a computer that confirms handling instructions for the room, including its
floating bed and 3D
printed rocket engine spotlights.
Did we mention the space suit glove that extends out of the wall as a
landing spot for phones, keys, and other devices? Designed by German
artist, adventurer, and aspiring astronaut Michael Najjar, the suite was
designed to make guests feel like they're living inside a space station.
The Barceló Sants Hotel, Spain: From the space station-inspired
lobby to the orbital rooms and suites, The Barceló Sants Hotel in Barcelona
has all the bells and whistles necessary to enjoy an imaginary trip into outer
space. With three on-site restaurants aptly named Oxygen, Hydrogen, and
Nitrogen, as well as the Orbital Bar, this iteration of the Barceló Hotels is a
fun and unexpected departure from everyday hotel living.
Pengheng Space Capsules Hotel: Jetsons fans and tiny house
enthusiasts rejoice, the Pengheng Space Capsules Hotel in Shenzhen,
China's Bao'an District is right up your alley. Entirely staffed by robots with
blue LED-lit sleeping pods and space station-style bunks, the 27 rooms
and 150 double-decker style capsules mimic an intergalactic space station
experience. Guests can even order food and drinks via tablet and have
them delivered by robot. $11 per night, we say 'beam me up, Scotty!'
ICEHOTEL, Jukkasjärvi, Sweden: Made entirely of natural ice
and snow from one of Europe's last wild rivers, 124 miles north of the
Arctic Circle in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden, The Ice Hotel is a glimpse of what
life would feel like on the dark side of the moon. With temperatures dipping
down to 23 degrees Fahrenheit, the hotel also features an ice bar, ice church, ice hall, ice reception
are
a and rooms and suites for over 100 guests.
If that isn't nifty enough, ICEHOTEL has partnered with Virgin Galactic to offer space trips on SpaceShipTwo for a two-hour
flight including four minutes of weightlessness as you enjoy incredible views of our planet and space.
The Silken Puerta América, Madrid: No two floors are the same at The Silken Puerta América in Madrid, which was
designed by nineteen architects from thirteen different countries. Each floor showcases a different stylistic concept, all of
which play with different materials, colors, and shapes to create spaces that bring together the best in avant-garde design.
However, the rooms that form award-winning architect Zaha Hadid's Space Club really steal the show with their outstanding
fluidity, bold lines, and the sci-fi feel of their totally white floor and walls.
Hotel Sidi Driss in Matmâta, Tunisia: Nicknamed the “Star Wars Hotel,” Sidi Driss in Matmâta, Tunisia was one of the
filming locations for the Star Wars movies. Located in a traditional centuries-old house dug into sandstone, the hotel is a prime
example of traditional Berber architecture. Open year round, the hotel can accommodate 145 guests in 20 rooms, grouped in
four separate caverns.
With Mary and Susan at Pride Parade, San Fransisco

with your partner, it could be a male or a female and no one would even bat an
eyelid.” Hmm… “But there are many who come from orthodox states and need
counselling for adjusting in society,” shared Susan and Mary , the counsellors
running an NGO called Gaylesta. Later when I participated in the Dyke March out of
curiosity, Cherry, a Jew lady, even hit on me! 'Not her fault, duh, Dyke march is for
lesbians, 'I chided myself.
In the midst of fun galore, I observed that though there was an open
indulgence in alcohol, drugs and nudity, there was no misbehaviour of any kind.
There were millions of people and each one respected the other's space and
preference without getting rowdy. I recollected what I had read on Rockefellers
Centre inscription in New York. 'I believe in the supreme worth of the individual and
in his right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I believe that every right
implies a responsibility; every opportunity, an obligation; every possession, a duty.'
Even the police performed its duty so efficiently that before a drunken man
would fall down, they would pick him and put him aside as the crowd cheered.
That day I learnt how to enjoy my freedom with responsibility and do my duties
conscientiously while living life to the fullest with a non-judgemental attitude.
Read my experiences of Rio carnival, the largest party of the world, next
Thursday.

“In Catalonian cuisines, rice is a staple ingredient for hearty dishes like
paella, as well as simple vegetable and rice salads. Vegetables take the
spotlight in Catalonia since they are often served as a course by
themselves and not typically as side dishes. Spices such as saffron and
smoked paprika add depth to dishes without relying on meats and fish

If I have a hereditary predisposition
towards gum disease, what should I be
doing regarding the oral health of my
children? - Rita Agarwal, 37
Under these circumstances, it is important to
have the gum health of your children checked
every time that they see the dentist. In order to
make sure that the dental office does not
overlook the significance of this issue in your
children, make sure that they know that you
suspect a genetic predisposition towards
periodontitis is in your "family tree" and you
would like your child to have a thorough
periodontal probing each time that they are in
the office for a tooth cleaning -- which should be
at least every 6 months. As your children
become adults, it is important that you impress
upon them the need for frequent dental
checkups and with a thorough periodontal
probing. It may be even better if you incorporate
an examination with a periodontist (the Gum
Disease Specialists) for a periodontal exam for a
"baseline records documentation".
Do toothpastes whiten teeth? - Mallika
Ranjan
The claims of whitening by toothpastes mostly
relate to their ability to help remove plaque and
extrinsic or surface stains. The “whitening”
toothpastes merely clean surface stains, but
cannot change the underlying tooth color.
Abrasives that are added to toothpastes in
varying degrees depending on the brand, are
essential for helping to remove plaque, and are
usually in the form of silica. All IDA-approved
toothpastes contain mild abrasives.
I am having pain in my tooth. Can I just
remove my tooth instead of doing a root
canal and saving it? - Jessica Bollina, 45
Pulling the tooth may sound like a quick fix, but
keeping your natural tooth is hands down the
best option. Losing a tooth can lead to problems
with your jaw and the alignment of the rest of
your teeth. Replacing it with an artificial tooth
may cause aggro of its own, like interfering with
a well-balanced diet (people often avoid certain
foods). And if that's not enough to convince you,
root canal treatment is usually a bargain
compared to the cost of extracting your tooth
and getting a bridge or an implant.
How will I know that I need root canal
treatment? - Sappan Parikh, 35
A common symptom of a dental pulp problem is
pain. If you've got pain that keeps you awake at
night, or starts up when you take cold or hot
liquid and continues for more than a few
minutes, or if you can't chew on the tooth, those
are all indications that the nerve is possibly
dying. You may also have swelling. If the
damage is from an accident that completely
severed the nerve or blood vessels – a hockey
puck to the mouth will do it, for instance – then
the tooth might turn dark. Or your dentist may
notice the problem during an exam or on an xray.
Can antibiotics be used to treat gum
diseases? - Sunny Popat
Antibiotics can be used in certain circumstances.
Antibiotics can enhance the results of nonsurgical root planing in some cases of aggressive
disease. However, the same antibiotics taken
without doing non-surgical root planing have
been shown not to be of benefit. The
determination of when and how to use
antibiotics for gum disease is one special service
that your dentist can help you with. Unnecessary
or improper antibiotic therapy is of no benefit to
you.

EXERCISES
TO
GROW
TALLER
At times some children simply seem to stop
growing, which becomes a major concern for them
and their parents. Women can grow till they are 21
and men until they are 25. Those below average
height have to work on their food, exercise and
sleep till they are 30 years old. An average person
can grow to a minimum of 2 – 4 inches with natural
means.
There are some exercises, which, when done
properly show amazing results, as they encourage
growth and increase in height, lengthen the spinal
column and at the same time enhance flexibility
and strengthen abdominal muscles.
SPRINTING: This exercise has an immense
advantage as it increases the release of the growth
hormone. The stress that the leg muscles
experience during the exercise results in bone and
muscle elongation. Take care not to do too many
as this can cause swelling on the muscles and
tendons. Sprint is advisable on a natural surface
like floor or lawn and not on concrete.

MUMBAI: Women's Cancer Initiative and Tata
Memorial Hospital, (WCI-TMH) have joined hands
with the Nag Foundation, Pune to organize a
Conference for Breast cancer survivors in the city.

successfully. In fact, there are almost one million
breast cancer survivors in India today. The
diagnosis and treatment of cancer however can
cause problems, both physical and emotional, for
survivors and those who care for them. The twoday conference touched upon various aspects of
breast cancer, to help women cope with the
concerns that can arise during and after cancer
treatment.
Speaking on the occasion Deveika Bhojwani,

cancer survivors' conference in Mumbai aims at
offering women with practical information to help
them cope with the concerns that can arise during
and after breast cancer treatment.” Lisa Ray, a

conference and said, "Deveika has been an
inspiration as she has tirelessly worked to improve
Breast Cancer awareness and provide solidarity
and support in India. As you know, I am living with
a condition called Multiple Myeloma which
technically isn't curable and I've had to make
many adjustments in order to continue to thrive
and lead a healthy, active life. I know I will gain
insights and inspiration from this conference as
well."

and stand on your toes and exhale. Repeat 8 – 10
times. Inhale and lift your outstretched arms
above your head swing them in a circular direction
and exhale. Repeat 8 – 10 times.
Choose the exercise that is suitable for you but
take care that you are regular and consistent. Try
to fix a certain time for your exercise regimen so
that you can follow it without missing. Don't
exercise when you are weak or having a fever. Eat
the right and balanced food so that exercise
doesn't make you weak. Remember not to exercise

SALADS
FOR
OPTIMUM
HEALTH
LOOKING FOR
A HEALTHY,
SATISFYING
FOOD THAT YOU
CAN MAKE
ON YOUR OWN
IN A JIFFY AFTER
A HARD DAY'S WORK?
TRY A SALAD.
Salads are rich in nutrients and vitamins and low on calories. Eating
salads everyday is the healthiest habit you can adopt in your
lifestyle. For a vegetarian it can be a mixture of vegetables, fruits or
both. Add up some pieces of chicken or tuna for a non vegetarian
salad and mix it with a little bit of seasonings, nuts or sauce which
will give a spicy, crunchy feeling and it's fun to eat. Everyone can
make a salad. It is not necessary to be a chef to prepare a salad.
Your own ingredients such as fresh cream, mayonnaise, yoghurt or
limejuice available in your kitchen can be used to make good salad
dressings for delicious and healthy homemade salads.
HEALTH BENEFITS OF SALADS:
Salads with Fiber: Almonds, beans, bran, wheat, and peas are all
high in fiber content. Add some of these in your salads to pep up the
fiber content in your diet. This can lower the cholesterol level, keep
bones strong and prevent constipation. Vegetables like carrot and
broccoli frequently used in salads sharpen our eyesight as they
contain vitamin A.
A mixture of Fruits and Vegetables: The more colourful the plate
is the more appetizing it looks. Well, I'm talking about the
combination of vegetables and fruits in your salad. They are rich in
vitamin A, B and C that keep our body fit and healthy. Vegetables
and fruits also ward off a wide range of ailments and lifestyle
diseases.
Salads to Tackle Weight Loss Problem: Having a tough time
trying to lose weight? Try having raw vegetables with high fiber
content such as broccoli, celery, spinach, carrots and sweet potatoes
in the form of plain salads or have them steamed as part of your food
routine. It helps to cut off calories and maintain an ideal body
weight. Start off your meal having a bowl of salad that contains a
variety of healthy vegetables or fruits with some toppings. Salads
contain a lot of nutrients, vitamins, proteins, and fiber and so they
help to fill you up before you have main dinner. Here the calorie
intake will be less as you tend to get full just after having the salads
whereas the vitamin intake will be more which is nutritious and good
for your body.
A Diet with Healthy Fat Contents: Our body also needs a little bit
of good fat. A little mixture of good fats in our salads like avocado
and olive oil will help protect us against cancer and heart diseases.
HEALTHY SALAD DRESSING
Do names like Fresh dressing, Greek dressing, Italian dressing,
Thousand Island dressing or vinaigrette puzzle you? There are a
variety of dressings for salads depending on how special one can
make a mixture of it well. The basic ingredients for salad dressings
include olive oil, lemon, vinegar, cream, yoghurt, buttermilk,
mustard, salt and pepper.
All salads are not meant only for vegetarians, so you don't have
to worry about it, as there are also lots of choices of salads even for
non-vegetarians as well. The more mixtures of fruits and vegetables
in your salads, the more healthy it is. So make use of all the fresh
items you have in your house to prepare a healthy nutritious salad.
Salads, which are nutritious and tasty are the perfect meals during
the hot summer.
Hangover remedies: Relieve the Nasty Headache
Festive times are cool - night outs, parties,
friends etc. The time for celebration is a
time for unlimited fun and - er - carousing!
The next morning, it's a familiar feeling.
Hangover! Heavy headedness, oversensitivity to light and noise, sickness and a
raving thirst - makes you wonder whether it
was all worth it!
But, a good time is often hard to have
without a little alcohol. Here are some tips
to keep you feeling bright and breezy the
morning after the party night. Start with
some prevention methods:
Eat Before you Go Out: You should eat
loads before you get your glad rags on and
go to a fun party. A fatty meal is beneficial in
this occasion as fat is digested slowly, and
helps protect the stomach from the
irritating effects of alcohol. Fatty milk slows
down the absorption of alcohol. But, it still
does not negate alcohol intake and don't
think you're safe now.
Have Some Soft Drinks Too: If you have
an un-carbonated or non-fizzy drink or
water between each shot, you will tend to
drink less alcohol, and ultimately have less
effect of hangovers. Also alcohol is very
dehydrating and it is the main cause of
hangover headache. So, if you drink water
between shots you'll be more hydrated and
less likely to wake up with a heavy head in
the morning.
Get Some Fresh Air: If it is safe for you to
walk home after the party, then, this activity
and the fresh air will help you sober up and
avoid hang over.
Drink Orange Juice: Remember to drink
some orange juice before crashing out.
Vitamin C speeds up the metabolism of the
alcohol by the liver.
Breakfast, Water and other Drinks:
There's no scientific proof that a generous
helping of bacon and eggs will ease
hangover anguish. Eat light and stick with
easy-to-digest foods such as toast or cereal.
Drinking a cup of coffee to relieve a
hangover may not be a great idea. It may
make the hangover worse as caffeine
narrows your blood vessels and boosts
blood pressure. If you are a regular coffee
drinker, you might try a very small amount
in the morning and wait for 30 to 60
minutes and see how you feel. Doctors say
that the dehydration caused by drinking is
what makes you feel so sick the next day.
So, replacing the fluid you've lost will likely
help you feel a little less depressed. Juice,
water or sports drinks are going to make
you feel better.
Hangover Pills: Lots of ''hangover pills
are available out there, but very little
evidence to back up claims. Hangover pills
only help against a few complaints… but not
all.
Take Pain Relievers: Nonsteroidal antiinflammatory pain relievers can provide
some release to women who have
premenstrual syndrome related pain such
as breast tenderness, backaches or
headaches. These include ibuprofen (Advil
and similar drugs) and naproxen (Aleve).
Exercise: A gentle workout could help
you feel better, if you can manage it.
Exercise is always the right thing to do.
However, in the hangover morning, you
could be a little dehydrated, you could be
metabolically behind on your nutrition, and
exercise is going to require hydration and
nutrition.
Sleep: People sleep poorly after a night
of drinking. Drinking alcohol can put you to
sleep quickly, but when it starts to wear off,
the withdrawal your body feels can jolt you
awake. Sleep deprivation definitely can
make the symptoms feel worse. If you have
the luxury of 'sleeping it off' the next day, do
so. Your foggy brain and achy body will
thank you. It's the best treatment for
hangover.

Are fenugreek seeds good for
health? Should a person take it
everyday or not – Please tell? My
name is Shalini and my age is 38
yrs and I am a homemaker.
Dear Shalini,
Fenugreek seeds are rich in vitamin E
and one of the earliest spices known to
man. Fenugreek seeds aid in maintaining
the blood glucose levels in non – insulin
dependent diabetes. Therefore people with diabetes are advised
to have 1 tp of soaked fenugreek seeds early morning with 1
glass of lukewarm water. It can be taken everyday as there are no
side effects to it. Fenugreek contains natural properties ideal for
treating sinus and lung congestion, and loosens & removes
excess mucus. Fenugreek stimulates the production of mucosal
fluids helping remove allergens and toxins from the respiratory
tract. Acting as an expectorant, fenugreek stimulates
perspiration to reduce fevers. In the East, beverages are made
from the seed to ease stomach trouble. When fish is curried,
particularly strong-tasting fish such as tuna and mackerel,
fenugreek is frequently included in the spice mixture. It can be
added to many chutneys and pickles as it gives a tangy aroma to
vegetables.
Hello Deepshikha,
I Naina Singh am 3 months pregnant. I feel nausea and
vomiting very very often. Please can you give me a solution to
this as it makes me very uncomfortable and then I am not able
to perform my routine household work? Help me. Thank you.
Hi Naina,
It is commonly known as 'morning sickness' that mainly occurs
in the early pregnancy. At least 50% of the pregnant women in
their first pregnancy experience this condition. There are
number of factors that contribute to this, some are physiological
eg excessive hormone production in early pregnancy disturbs
the biochemical balances which lead to gastro – intestinal
disturbances. This results in loss of appetite, nausea and
vomiting. Sometimes tensions, anxieties can also cause this. To
minimize this morning sickness woman should have solid
carbohydrate foods like biscuits, rusks, khakras, bread or a fruit.
At the same time avoid rich, fried, strongly flavored and highly
spiced foods. Eat liquid and solid foods a half hour apart.
During the first trimester of pregnancy, you should also be
cautious of herbal teas. Visit a dietician and get a healthy diet
planned by a professional to control these symptoms.

Where is my soul?
What does this question mean? Well, it is no more
nonsensical than the title of the self help book 'Who
Moved my Cheese?' Undoubtedly, there are
innumerable people who continue to pledge by this
book and many others for instance. And all in the
search of happiness, which
Spiritual Gurus define as
soul searching.
One more question that
occurs to me... if we are
searching for our souls,
then how are we living? As
it has been stated that the
soul is our life force. When
we die, it is the soul that
exits our body and
confirms our death. But
where is this soul located
in the body once it is
found? Does anyone
know? But then does it
make any sense to say that
while my life force is missing, I am still alive and
kicking? Yet, all the same in the journey of finding
peace, happiness, love, joy and the likes we are
supposed to find our souls.
In this journey we recourse to various modes and
methods. We read books, join classes for meditation,
go for retreats, so on and so forth. While many may

argue that books have been taken over by electronic
forms of mass media, I to a certain extent, would
disagree. And why do I say this? Because a vast
majority of people I have come across spend time
reading. No, not fiction or non-fiction, but what is
called spiritual books. Their
personal libraries consist
of Deepak Chopra, Osho,
Sri Sri Ravishankar, Dr.
Dyers, Celestine
Prophecy, Paulo Coelho
and the various others
that give them the feel
good emotion that lasts
for a few days after they
have read the book. And
then, they are out looking
for the latest title dealing
with a spiritual odyssey
that will help them search
their soul.
If the 'soul searcher' is
not immersed in such books, then you will find
him/her at various meditation and healing courses.
He/she would have probably tried and tested within
six months nearly a dozen of such courses. But the
soul is not found. Or should I say happiness is not
found.
And, if not the courses, then one is out there
searching for the perfect Guru.
Credentials of a perfect Guru,
do I hear you ask? Simple,
whatever he says must be tuneful to the ears and
must also turn our right. Who looks for a Guru who
gives knowledge, its all about the timing, when
happiness will be achieved, when the soul will be
found. And if he turns out to be wrong, then he is
disqualified and the search for the new one begins.
Ok, there is unhappiness, stress, tensions, worries,
doing their rounds... but all the searching one does is
not something without the being, it is within. It is all
too easy to be dissatisfied and a grand bear to
impossible task to be satisfied.
The other day, I heard a wise one say – 'The search
for the soul begins where the full stop is placed,
whether that be in books or a discourse.' Using the
words provided by those self realised individuals, is a
tool to happiness, only if it really means something.
And another statement made by this wise person was
– 'In search of the soul, there is no difference between
the politician and who jumps parties to meet his
selfish ends and the searcher who skips Guru's to find
happiness.'
Spiritual Shopping is a fad, with no pleasure! But
then, a human being is never satisfied and is always
searching for the soul... So what's the spiritual favour
this month?
Happiness
as happiness ever eluded you?
Do you have the feeling that
happiness is reserved for a
fortunate few? Do you have a feeling
that you are destined to be unhappy?
Let's assume that destiny plays a
certain part in making people happy or

which we as individuals can do to
create our own happiness. Understand
that no one can make you happy all
the time and most of the time, you
have to seek your own happiness. If
you believe in this, continue reading

yourself happy:
You don't have to win every time:
The stress of winning all the time takes
its toll on you. You cannot be right all
the time.
Your goals should be aligned with
one another: Make sure that all your
goals-Physical, emotional, spiritual and
material goals are aligned. You cannot
have a goal of becoming a saint and a
big businessman at the same time.
Cultivate friendships: Friendship is
a great stress buster.
Accept yourself unconditionally: All
of us have our strengths and
weaknesses. Accept your weaknesses:
It will keep you happy.

time frame.
Be open to new ideas: Do not have
a 'stick in the mud' attitude. Be open to
new ideas. Who knows, a new idea
may make you positive.
Share with others how important
they are to you: When you make
others feel important, they make you
feel important too. This makes you
happy.
Believe in yourself: If you do not
believe in yourself, who else will? Faith
in oneself and faith in ones abilities
makes you happy.
Do what you say you are going to
do: You fulfill a promise and it makes
the other person and you happy as
well.
Laugh: Laugh releases stress and
creates happiness.
Try to think less about the people
and things that bother you: Focus on
what is good in your life.
Eat some fruit everyday: Certain
fruits are mood enhancers.eg grapes.
Enjoy what you have: You dream of
having something someday. That may
or may not materialize. Enjoy the
present.
Don`t blame yourself: It is the
cause of distress. Forgiving oneself
leads to happiness.
Get a good night`s sleep: You know
how you feel when you have not had
sleep.
Buy what you like: Buying things
you like always makes you happy, at
least for some time. Some things
always bring happiness.
Accomplish something everyday:
The sense of achieving something
everyday brings happiness.
Be positive: Negativity brings
misery and Positivity happiness.

disagree, the more conflicts there are,
and of course more discomfort.
Listen to music: Music soothes the
pineal gland and brings pleasure.
Don`t dwell on unwinnable
conflicts: There are sure ways to bring
unhappiness.
Get a hobby: Any hobby brings
pleasure.
Focus on what really matters: Do
not dwell on things which do not
matter to you. It will only add to your
misery.
Realize that complete satisfaction
does not exist: Hundred percent
happiness exists only in theory.
Don`t let others set your goals: No
one knows you better than you do
yourself. Make your own goals. Only
then will you be able to fulfill them
leading to your happiness.
You now have many secrets at your
feet. Begin using one right away. It is
surely going to raise your happiness
quotient.

READER'S MESSAGES
Dear Editor,
It is a shame to see a senior citizen
being assaulted so badly especially
when the World Elder's Day was just
round the corner. Entering someone's
building and brutally assaulting them
with belts and rods is unacceptable.
The assaulters should be taught a
lesson and the others who are on the
run should be nabbed immediately.
The accused coming on Facebook
and commenting and the police
failing to arrest them is ridiculous.
Good that the residents of the society
decided to collectively complain to
the police against the assaulters.
Thanks to Mumbai Messenger for
highlighting the issue.

'Youth for People' NGO is really
doing a great job by taking up the
task of cleaning the beaches in
Mumbai starting with Juhu beach.
And it is good to see Sandhya Mridul
the Bollywood actor taking keen
interest in this cause. I hope more and
more people join the initiative to help
the city to be cleaner and better.
Cleaning the beach is not an easy task
and I hope that seeing you'll clean the
beach the others maybe inspired to
help in every way possible. The least
that they can do is not litter the place
when they visit the beach.

The Most Important
RELATIONSHIP
The most important relationship of all relationships you have is with yourself.
Other relationships will keep coming and going but the relationship you have with
yourself, will always stay with YOU.
Other relationships will end eventually, but your relationship with yourself is
eternal and so it's important that you have a wonderful one. There are plenty of
articles about building a healthy relationship with your loved ones and your partner
but we don't give much attention to the most important relationship in our lives:
the one we have with ourselves. We also need to understand our outer world is a
reflection of our inner world and so when we have a good relationship with
ourselves, it reflects in our outer world too. We automatically attract loving people
as they are reflecting our love for ourselves. When you don't have a good
relationship with yourself, how will you have a good relationship with others and if
you don't love yourself, then how will others be able to love you? If you don't love
yourself enough, who else is going to take the trouble to love you? They will just
reflect how are you treating yourself. When you don't love yourself enough then
you will always feel unloved and you will look outside for someone to love you and
complete you, to make you feel happy or fulfill your dreams. You will constantly be
in need of love.
Being needy is just a way to attract an unsuccessful relationship because a
needy person will attract another needy person. When two incomplete and needy
people come together, they will never make a whole or fulfill each other because
they themselves are needy. To have a healthy relationship outside, you first have to
have a healthy relationship within. You have to start being happy with who you are,
before you enter a relationship outside. Life is a mirror and what you are attracting
is always mirroring those qualities you have, or beliefs you have about relationship
or ourselves. To have a good relationship with yourself, you have to start loving
yourself the way you are, you have to start loving and enjoying your own thought
which is possible when you stop criticizing yourself.
Loving yourself means beginning with never criticizing yourself for anything.
You have to start loving your own body, the way it is. People who love themselves
and their bodies neither abuse themselves nor others. You need to be excited to be
alive, learn to laugh, sing, dance with yourself, every morning when you get up feel
good about yourself and live just because you are alive. You have to stop scarring
yourself and love and support of yourself enough. Loving yourself is appreciating
yourself to such an extent that it fills your heart to bursting and overflowing love.
Loving and approving ourselves creates a space of safety. Often what we think
of the things as “wrong” with us is the only expression of our individuality.
Understanding this helps us to accept and love ourselves even more and so it
becomes easy to love oneself and when we are able to love ourselves completely, it
also becomes easy to love others too. When your relationship is loving with
yourself then you automatically attract love from others. Constant love for self will
get constant flow of love in your life.
Begin today to affirm your love for yourself. Look into the mirror frequently and
tell yourself: I LOVE YOU (YOUR NAME). As simple as this sounds, it is a very
powerful healing affirmation. As you grow in self- love, your relationship will begin
to reflect this love and respect as well.
Dear Editor
It is good to see the BMC initiating a
drive against footpath and pavement
encroachment. The shop owners have
started thinking that the pavement is
their property to use. The BMC needs
to come down very strict on them.
Now that the BMC has decided to
take the action against them it will
help the citizens. But I hope that this
won't be like their other decisions
where nothing is implemented at the
ground level. But with local MLA
taking so much keen interest in
cleaning the pavement, we can hope
for some improvement. Thanks to
Mumbai Messenger for making
people aware about the issue.
Girish Parekh
To the Editor,
The BMC should save the tress;
planting two tress for every tree you
cut is not an option. These tress take
years to grow. Cutting them down or
not taking care of them is disturbing
the green cover of the city. It is really
sad to know that Andheri is one of
the worst hit places in the city which
is losing its green cover fast. The
BMC should take this issue seriously
we already having so much problem
with rain, we have a drought like
situation in Maharashtra already and
if these issues are not taken seriously
globally, we will have very tough
time in coming years.

Safety India 2015 To Stir Up
Discussions With Global Leaders
MUMBAI: The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE)
aims to create safer work environment by preventing
workplace fatalities, injuries and illness around the globe.
ASSE advocates for Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) of
professionals through proactive government and
international affairs and member-led relationships with the
key safety and health agencies. With an objective to bring
OSH onto the forefront in India as well, ASSE had announced
that its flagship conference- Safety India 2015 – was to be
held at The Lalit. The conference was inaugurated by YS
Chowdary, Honorable Minister of State for Science &
Technology and Earth Sciences, Government of India.
Occupational Safety and Health is imperative for all
organizations irrespective of the industry as workplace
accidents not only cause damage to the health and lives of
the employees but also hamper the productivity and
reputation of the organization. Bringing this critical aspect
into mainstream discussion, Safety India 2015 will enable
detailed discussions on important topics like Understanding
Human Error, OSH Management and Emerging Trends in
2015, Injury Prevention through Visualizing the Hazard
Analysis and Risk Control, updates on ISO 45001 standard
on Safety Management Systems and its implications, Gold
Standard for Risk Management – ISO 31000ILO, Sustainable
Safety Management, Significance of Incidence Reporting,
Methodology for Incident Investigation to name a few.
While sharing the details of Safety India 2015 Michael
Belcher, President ASSE said, “According to a report by ILO in
2008, around 403,000 people die in India every year due to
work induced illness or injury. Though the local industry has
been taking efforts to enhance the safety measures, we
believe there is still significant work that needs to be done in
India to ensure Safety of the workers. Through Safety India
2015 we are aiming to acquaint the Indian industry with the
global best practices which have been implemented and
have resulted in creating safer workplaces.”
“I feel that the technical sessions of Safety India 2015 will
add immense value to the safety requirements of the Indian
Industry. In a Country like India which adds a million people
every month to its workforce, Occupational Safety and
Health has to be prime consideration of any organization. In
fact, now under the 'Make in India' initiative, more local jobs
are expected to be created and it will be employer's
responsibility to ensure safer work environment for its
employees,” added Suresh P. Tanwar, chief – Group Safety
and Health, Tata Group and the Conference Chair.
Jacob's Creek hosts 45 international
Masters of Wine in Australia
Sachin Murdeshwar
MUMBAI/ AUSTRALIA: Jacob's Creek, the World's
Most Awarded Winery in association with Barossa
Grape & Wine Association (BGWA), and in
conjunction with over 55 Barossa wineries recently
hosted 45 international Masters of Wine (MW's) at
the Under a Barossa Sky dinner in Australia.
45 international Masters of Wine (MW's) were
surprised and delighted when one of their own, Dr
Josef Schuller MW, was inducted as the first
international Honorary Baron of Barossa at the
Under a Barossa Sky dinner, held at Jacob's Estate
recently.
The initiative highlights the authentic spirit that
Jacobs Creek celebrates across the world and
reflects the effort and dedication the wine brand
invests in crafting premium quality wines.
In India, Jacob's Creek recently presented its
unique global concept of 'The Reserve Table' for the
first time in India. The Reserve Table experience
was extended to key markets in the country,
starting with the first ever 'Longest Reserve Table'
in New Delhi and Bangalore in March, 2015.
“As key international wine influencers, the
impressions and knowledge that the MW's take
home with them will resonate for years to come
around the world. It was imperative for us and our
members to present the complete story of the
Barossa; its people, flavours, landscape and of
course, wines,” said James March, Chief Executive,
BGWA. BGWA crafted the MW's Barossa experience
into two elements; The Barossa Wine Chapters tasting
followed by the Under a Barossa Sky dinner.
Hosted by 15 Barossa winemakers, the MW's earnt their
dinner undertaking the Barossa Wine Chapters
tasting which showcased 48 leading Barossa wines
themed according to, for example, a Generations,
Old Vines or Barossa Grounds connection and story.
From lesser known styles and varieties, through to
better known Shiraz and other iconic wines, this
was a collection of Barossa wines rarely seen in one
place together. James Handford MW, commented,
“Great to see such good young growers. They are
properly good at what they do.”
The tasting was followed by the Under a
Barossa Sky dinner, hosted by 40 Barossans at a
long table dinner. The menu, created by Jacob's
Creek Executive Chef, Veronica Zahra, was inspired
by original recipes used by early German settlers
including Ann Jacobs' Cockatoo Pie and house
made Kümmel Käse, complemented by Barossa
wines. One of the guests, David Allen MW, said,
“We were almost overwhelmed with the
extraordinary hospitality from the Barossans. They
were so generously spirited.”
Dr Schuller was inducted as the Honorary Baron
of Barossa. Dr Schuller, from Burgenland in Austria,
is the Director of the Austrian Wine Academy. “I am
humbled and delighted to join the Baron's and
creating a linkage for Barossa through Austria and
Europe” said Dr Schuller.
“It was a great opportunity and privilege to host
the MW's in the Barossa, 30 years after their
original Wine Flight,” said James March. “The MW's
are now making their way back to their homes
around the world, with the most up to date
knowledge of the evolution of the Barossa wine community
and story having made many connections with Barossa
wineries, to use in the months to come.

MALLIKA
SHERAWAT

ACTRESS
HOROSCOPE
ARIES (March 21 to April
20): You are likely to feel
blue this week. This week
may further impair your marital
bond, which has been going
through troubled times lately.
Around mid-week, you may once
again feel low, this time because
you may not be able to live up to
the expectations of your loved
ones. However, you will be
motivated by the end of the week.
TAURUS (Apr 20 – May
20): Beginning of the
week you are likely to feel
depressed as well as direction-less.
You may now be able to think of
ways to resolve the issues that
have been bothering you lately. At
the job front, you may perform
your duties sincerely but not
succeed in impressing your boss.
Change in responsibility cannot be
ruled out.
GEMINI (May 21 – Jun
20): You will feel low and
puzzled about a few
things at the starting of the week.
You can blame your inability to
differentiate between good and
bad, right and wrong. It's only
beautiful memories that should be
treasured and the bad ones that
give pain should be wiped out. At
the financial front, your position is
likely to start improving.
CANCER (Jun 21 – Jul
22): Money needs to be
handled meticulously. An
unexpected expense may force
you to draw money from your
savings. The academic progress of
children may not be encouraging,
and this may disappoint you. Your
children need your time and
attention, so make sure you be
with them when they need you.
Chronic ailments may need extra
attention this week.
LEO (Jul 23 – Aug 22):
You may feel depressed
and the worst part is that
you may not be able to find the
exact reason behind it.
Sometimes, in an attempt to keep
everyone happy, we tend to give
more importance to pointless
relationships and take the ones
close to our heart for granted. Now
is the time to do just the opposite.
VIRGO (Aug 23 – Sep
22): You are advised to be
careful in finance and
family matters. You may think
about money matters all over
again. It's important to learn from
experiences in the past for they
help you to take better decisions in
the present and future. On the job
front, you might have to slog your
guts out and even work long
hours.
LIBRA (Sep 23 – Oct 22):
The week may not begin
on a good not for you.
Gear up for a swirl of changes in
your personal life. You are likely to
realise the mistakes you have
committed in the past, and will
handle issues better. If you don't
make provision for the rising
expenses, you may have to draw
from your savings.
SCORPIO (Oct 23 – Nov
21): You are likely to feel
quite low at the beginning
of the week. Moreover, some
major expenses this time around
may burn a hole in your pocket.
Refrain from taking important
decision related to investments
and other money matters or you
may land in a soup. Your emphasis
should now be on long-term
financial planning.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov 22
– Dec 21): There are
chances that you may
miss out on a good earning
opportunity around this time but it
all depends on the planetary
configuration. You can now look
forward to benevolent times at the
job as well as personal front. It
may also have a good impact on
your health; those suffering from
ailments shall be blessed with early
recovery.
CAPRICORN (Dec 22 –
Jan 19): The tasks that
once seemed like a piece
of cake may now eat up too much
of your precious time. You can
blame the solar eclipse for this
change. Freshers are likely to be
disappointed though, as they may
not get a positive response.
Businessmen involved in foreign
trade and professionals handling
offshore projects may need to
work hard to achieve goals.
AQUARIUS (Jan 20 –
Feb 18) : While there are
chances of some new
relationships developing, you may
see some old ones coming to an
end. Your focus shall shift to career
related matters at around midweek. With the deadlines of some
projects nearing, you may have to
pull your socks up and work long
hours. A job opportunity is on the
cards for freshers but the profile
may not be enticing.

may feel terribly low and
depressed around this time. This
may be due to issues in close
relationships, including that with
life partner. Your inability to resolve
the issues in spite of genuine
efforts, may add to the troubles
you may be tempted to go for
unfair means to earn money.

Santa was appointed as sales person at a
local store.
While on one of his shifts, a lady
approached him and asked if they had 'Peach
Jam' to which he bluntly replied, "Out of stock."
At this, the lady immediately turned to leave
the shop in disgruntlement.
It was then that the shopkeeper, who had
been looking on, called Santa aside and told
him, "When a customer asks for a product that
is out of stock, you apologize for its
unavailability, and then offer other types of the
same product. For instance in this case it was
peach jam; offer other types of jam like
pineapple jam, guava, aprioct jam and so on."
Next, came in another lady who asked for
toilet paper and Santa politely replied, “"I am
sorry ma'am, we do not have any toilet paper
right now but you could try some Carbon Paper
or Sand Paper!"
