Just a Reminder to
Families:
Our Family Support Workers need time to set up for
their
programs. If you are early,
please come join us in the
reception area so the
workers can finish preparing
their activities.
Why was the
broom late?
Human Services Minister Sabir met with
community stakeholders in Grande Prairie to
increase his awareness and understanding of
the opportunities and challenges involved in
service delivery in the community. Carrie
Partington, ECRC-Parent Link Coordinator,
along with Stephen Beam, Executive Director
of Stepping Stones Society were invited to
participate in the round table discussion.
It over swept!

Triple P Tip Sheet ….Mealtime Problems
“Mealtimes are ideal opportunities for family members to get together and enjoy one another’s company. Mealtimes
can also be difficult and stressful. Parents may feel that mealtimes have become a “battle” when children do not eat
or behave well. Sitting at a table and eating meals with others is an important skill for all preschoolers to learn”. Here

One of Parent Links 5 Core Services is
Ages and Stages Screening
What is ASQ Screening?
On-site developmental screening with the Ages & Stages
Developmental Screening tool and Ages & Stages Social
Emotional Screening Tool (completed by Parent/Guardian).
Parent Link promotes and utilizes the ASQ & ASQ-SE by
trained staff who will assist parents in scoring and
implementing ideas as a result from screening results.
Why developmental screening?
Developmental Screening:
• Asks questions about a child’s development and gives a
“snap shot” of the child’s development at that time.
• Helps parents and caregivers understand how a child is
progressing.
• Can identify concerns in order that children can get help as
early as possible.
• Results help to determine if a child is developing
appropriately or if child requires further monitoring, follow-up
or assessment
What is the Ages & Stages Questionnaire?
• Parent/caregiver completed tool
• Child friendly, easy to use
• Can use in home or at the Parent Link Centre
• Takes about 15 minutes to complete
• 19 screening intervals between 2 to 60 months
What are the goals of this initiative?
• To provide parents access to screening opportunities at a
variety of locations in their community.
• Increase parent knowledge of children’s development and
follow-up services.
• Improve early identification and referral of children eligible for
educational programming.
• Increase collaborative working relationships between
agencies that best support families in successful parenting.
What does the process involved?
• Participation is voluntary.
• Results are scored and reviewed with the parent.
• Parents also share/comment on child’s strengths.
Where and how do I access further assessment and
follow-up services if required?
• Children requiring further follow-up may be referred to
various agencies and/or services in the area
