Welcome Letter from Jeff and Trina
Welcome Letter from Jeff and Trina
Dear Neighbor,
Connections. They define each of us, from the friends we hang out with to the
sports teams whose colors we wear to the neighborhoods where we choose to
live and raise our families.
Each of our connections is built upon a shared interest. In fact, the strongest
unifying force is a common cause.
At Eat’n Park Hospitality Group, we share a connection with the neighborhoods
we serve. It’s based on a shared desire to help communities thrive.
Although Eat’n Park Hospitality Group’s presence has grown, our connection and
commitment to the communities we serve is unwavering. We began with one
carhop restaurant in a southern Pittsburgh suburb. Now, nearly seven decades
later, our business has expanded to include Eat’n Park family-style restaurants
in three states; the additional dining concepts Six Penn Kitchen, The Porch at
Schenley and Hello Bistro; Delicious Raw; Parkhurst Dining, our food service
management division with client locations from the mid-west to the eastern
seaboard; and SmileyCookie.com, that delivers smiles throughout the country.
Thank you for allowing us to be part of your community, to collaborate with you,
and to share in your pride. We enjoy working hand-in-hand with you, through
community programs, fundraising, volunteerism and more as we celebrate the
strength of our connections.

Eat’n Park Hospitality Group
Lifesmiles Fulfills Five-Year
Commitment To Community Support
In 2010, Eat’n Park Hospitality Group introduced LifeSmiles, a five-year
commitment to strengthening our communities’ health and wellness. Through
LifeSmiles, we invested $1 million and more than 20,000 volunteer hours.
The tenets of LifeSmiles have guided our involvement in the community, from
donations to fundraising to volunteerism. Our areas of focus for the past five
years have been:
•
improving access to healthy, affordable foods in our local,
under-served communities
•
increasing physical activity by supporting neighborhood walks, runs
and events
•
empowering parents and caregivers with healthy choices
•
providing healthy food in schools through impactful partnerships
Among the programs
and activities LifeSmiles
supported this past year
are the following:
One of our largest
LifeSmiles investments
in 2015 was in our youth
sports program. Each of
our Eat’n Park Restaurant
locations sponsored – and
continues to sponsor – at least
one youth sports team in their
neighborhood. That translates to our
sponsoring hundreds of teams. That’s
a lot of home runs, touchdowns, goals
and three pointers!
Physical activity is important, regardless of the pace.
Eat’n Park was a proud sponsor of many walks, runs and races, including
the Pittsburgh Marathon, the Pittsburgh Great Race, Susan G. Komen
Pittsburgh Race for the Cure and dozens of grassroots community events. Our
sponsorships helped to put hundreds of thousands of feet on the ground.
Girls on the Run inspires girls in grades 3 through 8 to be happy and healthy. The
curriculum helps girls to develop physical and emotional skills for success in life.
The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while
establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.
Experience is often the best means of learning, so to help young people develop
an understanding of and appreciation for nutrition, Eat’n Park Hospitality Group
provided numerous cooking demonstrations for kids. These hands-on events
helped kids to learn that making smart choices can be healthy and delicious.
Team Member Fundraising
And Philanthropy
The concept of serving guests has
many meanings for our team
members.
It includes helping to meet their
needs outside our restaurants
and client sites. Giving back
to neighbors in need is the
foundation of our community.
One of our team members’
largest fundraising initiatives
supports the United Way. It’s an
annual tradition, and the breadth
and depth of that support is a
reflection of the connection our team
has with the communities where
they live and work.
As in the past, our team members chose to support the United Way to address
the most pressing needs in the communities we serve. Last year, our annual
employee campaign raised more than $335,000.
Caring for Kids is another team member-supported fundraising campaign.
Each year, the campaign raises funds to support free care services in pediatric
hospitals and programs in the communities where Eat’n Park Hospitality Group
has a presence. The 2015 Caring for Kids campaign shattered every previous
record with a fundraising total of $470,000. The funds make a meaningful
difference in the lives of so many families throughout our region, and it is possible
only because of the dedication of our team members and the generous support
of our guests.
The beneficiary of the first Caring for Kids campaign was Children’s Hospital of
Pittsburgh, and in 2015, Children’s recognized Eat’n Park Hospitality Group with
its first “Beacon of Hope Award.” Children’s presented the award in recognition of
Eat’n Park’s commitment to the hospital and the children and families it serves.
Smiley In The Community
You know you’re home when you see Smiley, and this past year many
communities welcomed him with open arms.
Loved by kids of all ages, Smiley Cookies help us to spread smiles over many
miles. Smiley by the numbers in 2015:
•
Eat’n Park’s Community Partnerships department donated 214,320
Smiley Cookies.
•
More than 85,300 Smiley Cookies were shared through Cookie
Cruiser events.
•
Smiley participated in more than 100 community events.
•
83 Cookie Cruiser events brought smiles to thousands and kids (and
their parents).
Volunteerism:
Neighbor Helping Neighbor
Most of our team members live in or near the community where they work.
They know the people, they know the values, they know the heartbeat of
the community.
So when it’s time to get involved, they are ready to roll up their sleeves. Our team
members’ involvement takes many forms, including coaching baseball teams,
preparing food for those in need or planting community gardens. More than
1,000 team members donated more than 30,000 cumulative volunteer hours.
Although we encourage our team members to volunteer in their communities,
it’s not a requirement. What we have discovered is that volunteering is a passion
for so many of our team members. That’s why we hosted more than 20 Eat’n
Park Hospitality Group team volunteer opportunities throughout the year.
BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF GREATER PITTSBURGH
WORKPLACE MENTORING PROGRAM
2015 VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR FINALISTS
Each year, the company recognizes its outstanding volunteers through its
“Eat’n Park Hospitality Group Volunteer of the Year Award” who best embody
a spirit of service.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh Workplace Mentoring Program
connects Bigs from Eat’n Park Hospitality Group with Littles from Steel Valley
Middle School. Throughout the school year, Little Brothers and Sisters spent
time with their Bigs at Eat’n Park Hospitality Group’s Corporate Support Center,
just outside of Pittsburgh. The young participants had the opportunity to see
first hand what their more senior counterpart does on the job. We introduced
participants to careers they might not otherwise have known about, and we hope
the experience opened a world of possibilities to them. 2015 marked the first
year in a three-year partnership between the student Littles and their ENPHG
Bigs as the program will follow students through middle school.
