Dolphin Chapter of FMCA
Newsletter for the Dolphin Motorhome Club
THE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
H
ere we are going into August. Wow, the time sure
seems to fly by anymore. This is the month when
we get really hot and muggy here in inland North County
San Diego. I was in Home Depot the other day and man
asked for directions. Apparently he just moved to Escondido from Carlsbad because he was tired of the overcast
and cold. Interesting how the “grass is always greener”. I
would switch in a minute.
From recent emails and phone calls it looks like some of
our long distance travelers are beginning to return home.
They are in time for a few upcoming rallies. We have
Paso Robles in August, 29 Palms in September and Chula
Vista Marina in October. Lynn and I are looking forward
to seeing everyone and catching up on all our travels.
Hopefully we can hear about the Indiana FMCA rally that
took place in July.
I do not have any club updates as we have not been
together for awhile. Our membership numbers are
holding, and actually going up; I would like to see a few
more rallies scheduled for next year and hope we will
have some new rally hosts. Remember, this does not have
to be a big deal, you can make your rally as easy as you
want. Our goal is to get together., socialize and have fun.
So if you are interested in hosting please contact Syd
Byford for guidance. Anna and Syd can help you with the
planning.
The upcoming rally flyers are now on the website.
Speaking of the website, please let me know if you have
any suggestions about the site.
THE VICE-PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
A
ugust is around the corner, and we did not travel
in our RV in July, so we must make up for it in
August. Not getting any younger, so we travel when
we can. I miss the walks with Miley around our campsite, and so does the dog. Don't know about other
campers, but I always seem to feel better when we are
on the road. It could be the fresh air, lack of harassing
telephone calls, a lot less than 5 acres to care for and
seeing all of you.
There is a great outing planned for Paso Robles which
can be extended into a nice leisurely trip. Hopefully,
we see a lot of Dolphin members on the road.
The weather in North County San Diego has been
warm, so I have been spending a great deal of my time
tending to the grove and family orchard. Our last trip
was for over a month so there was a great deal of
deferred maintenance around our property and fresh
produce that required picking. There is nothing like
home grown vegetables and fruits. Ask Anne about
how I kept her busy with canning.
The next two months have some great Dolphin Club
outings planned and we hope to see as many of you as
possible attend. Fuel prices are down from a few
months ago, so dust off your rig and plan on seeing us
down the road. We will keep a light on for you.
Leon
Hope to you all soon.
Happy Travels,
Sandy Mayer

In Texas, it is still a “hanging offense” to steal cattle.
There are 18 different animal shapes in the Animal

A lightning bolt generates temperatures five times

In Washington State, you can’t carry a concealed

Tired of your rocking chair making marks on those
shiny floors? Glue some felt weather stripping

To get rid of itch from mosquito bites, try applying
soap on the area and you will experience instant

area of its members at which a quorum is present or where some or all of the members
communicate with the other members through electronic means such as the Internet or
by telephone. All participating members must have the opportunity for simultaneous
aural communication. The notice for an electronic meeting will include adequate
description of how to participate.
Article XII - Committees
Add:
(8) A properly called meeting of a committee can be an official gathering in one area of its
members at which a quorum is present or where some or all of the members

aural communication. The notice for an electronic meeting will include adequate
description of how to participate.
Article XVII - Chapters
Amend this Article to read:
(4) In each fiscal year, a chapter shall hold at least one business meeting at which a quorum

members communicate with other members through electronic means such as the
Internet or by telephone that allows all members the opportunity for simultaneous aural
communication. Said meeting shall be duly announced in advance to the membership,
including adequate description of how to participate.
PROPOSER'S RATIONALE:
The latest change to Roberts Rules of Order, 1J'h edition, authorizes Electronic Meetings
provided certain rules are met. "Aural" refers to the sense of hearing.
1. Electronic meetings must be authorized in the bylaws of the organization.
2. Meeting should allow for "simultaneous aural communication among all participating
members equivalent to those meetings held in one room or area."
3. Notice of electronic meetings must include description of how to participate (e.g., call-in
number and code). Notices of electronic meetings can also be sent electronically (e-mail,
text, or fax) if the member has agreed to it being sent that way.
The Constitution and Bylaws Committee recommends adoption of this amendment.
The Executive Board agrees with the Committee recommendation.

Additional information on the Twenty Nine Palms, CA. outing scheduled for September 27 -30,
2012 (application on page 4.) We have reservations for 30 RVs, and have an excellent agenda
planned. One highlight is a bus tour of the USMC Air Ground Combat Center facility located a few
miles from the campground. This is the world's largest Marine Corps training and live fire
base. Training has priority over everything, so something may not be available. The tour is
limited to 35 people and will start at the main gate visitor center where you will be processed
through security. If driving to the gate you must have valid insurance, drivers license, and
registration. After we clear security we head to the bus, park our vehicles, load up and go for a
safety briefing. After the briefing we start the tour. The tour is about 6 hours.
If available we will see the training areas that are used for urban combat ( sometimes referred to as "Urban Warfare Training Villages")

e would like to share with our Dolphin friends Joe's latest
medical issues. We had him to E.R. yesterday, Monday
July 23rd, in Spokane, WA and they found what has been causing
him all the discomfort and weight loss. When they read the cat
scan they found he has a large mass on his liver and pancreas and
it has also wrapped itself around some major arteries. They also
found an aneurysm on his aorta just above his kidney; so he is a
very sick boy. We will head back to Indio, CA right way for
medical attention. We ask your prayers for him during this most
difficult time.

Dolphin blues.
Having just returned from the East coast, we wanted to report an adventure you hopefully can avoid.
Heading west on I-80 and spending the night in Lyman Wyoming. We awoke to no DC power, no lights ,refrigerator
off (and was hot out), and worst our jacks were down and would not retract. After calling Coach Net and being advised
that there was no tech support within 140 miles and that I should replace the batteries (which checked out OK) On
checking (batteries, power board, inverter/converter, jack electrical connections) ,some wire jiggling, the power came
on and I raised the jacks. Thinking it an anomaly with the DC power working all day driving thru Salt Lake City and
heading west thru the salt flats with driving head and side winds that wracked our main slide-out cover we got to a nice
little campground
near Wells NV., we lowered the jacks and in the morning found the DC power to again be not working.
After again much checking and wire jiggling a fellow camper working on a neighboring farm was called by his wife to
come help . In jiggling the power board and checking the circuit breakers, the power again came on I immediately
raised the jacks and was advised to buy a replacement circuit board , which I did in Elko NV.
Thinking the problem found and the replacement breaker in hand should the anomaly recur I reluctantly lowered the
jacks in the Winnemucca campground. The next morning no DC power. I replaced the circuit breaker only to find still
no power. Fortunately a mine worker mechanic coming home ( to his trailer) from working all night graciously agreed
to check the system, in checking and wiggling the circuit board the power came on. I immediately raised the jacks and
purposed not to lower them till I got home.
Our own Dolphin Tech Adviser Chuck McGaughy (Aka Grumpy, whom I also called the each day) advised that th e
circuit board could be repaired or replaced. Most RV repair guys would replace and not repair at considerably greater
cost and if away from home no recourse if problematic.
Upon returning home, Chuck found it not to be the batteries, the circuit breaker or the mother board but the Battery
disconnect relay
This relay is not shown on the circuit diagram and is a black box on the circuit board and actuated by the switch upon
entering the coach. the switch worked and you could hear it connect ,but no power passed thru. Upon opening the black
box the relay was simply 2 copper bolts and a copper washer on a rod opening or closing depending on the direction of
current. the problem was a little corrosion on the washer and bolts. A little sanding of both resolved the problem .
vs.New batteries : $300.00+ As Quoted in Lyman WY.
vs A new Circuit board :$400.00+ labor.
vs A new battery disconnect relay $40.00 + labor
vs Roughing up the relay $0.00 +labor
Bob Frauenzimmer, now a little less grumpy, thanks to Grumpy.
Note!
Our best guess as the cause of the malfunction is that we live near the coast and moisture caused the corrosion, though
none was visible,.
Going down the road with the high heat and bumps allowed for contact ,when night came it cooled and contact was
lost. Crazy making, you can't find the problem during the day when it's working.
The battery disconnect relay is accessed by disassembling the circuit board, removing the relay, and removing the
bottom cover.
Two blondes find three grenades, and they decide to take them to a police station.
One asks, “What if one explodes before we get there?”
The other says, “We’ll lie and say we only found two.”
A blonde is in the bathroom and her husband shouts, “Did you find the shampoo?”
She answers, “Yes, but I’m not sure what to do…. It’s for dry hair and I’ve just wet mine.”

PROPOSER'S RATIONALE:
Many chapters have difficulty getting members who will accept chapter offices. In addition,
many members are active in more than one chapter. This will allow a member to be an officer in
not more than two chapters. It restricts a member from being the national director and/or the
alternate national director in more than one chapter.
The Constitution and Bylaws Committee recommends adoption of this amendment.
The Executive Board agrees with the Committee recommendation.
PROVISO: TBD
2012 PROPOSED BYLAWS AMENDMENT
PROPOSAL #3
Article III - Membership
Amend this Article to read:
(3) FMCA shall be comprised of six membership categories: Charter, Full, Life, Full Lifetime,
Commercial, and Family Associate. Chapters may bestow chapter
honorary memberships.
(g) A Family Associate is an Emeritus or Full Member who no longer owns a qualifying
motor coach- or a person who owns a fifth wheel
or camping trailer that includes cooking, sleeping, and permanent sanitary
facilities. A Family Associate shall be required to pay dues,
however shall not be eligible to vote or hold elected office. An officer converting to
Family Associate membership status may be allowed to complete his or her term of
office.
PROPOSER'S RATIONALE:
The membership of the Family Motor Coach Association has declined to a point where it
seriously threatens the financial stability of the organization. This change will enable far greater
numbers of recreational vehicle users to join us, and at the same time will improve the financial
outlook for Family Motor Coach Association.
The Constitution and Bylaws Committee is forwarding this amendment to the Governing
Board with no recommendation.
The Executive Board agrees with the Committee.

12 Volt Electrical System Failure
One of our members was recently on a long trip when he discovered he had no
12 volt electrical power in the coach, a 2005 Dolphin. After a lot of troubleshooting
and agony, it was discovered that the house battery disconnect solenoid was activating
as evidenced by a loud click and physically feeling it but was not passing any electrical current from one large terminal to the other.
Upon removal of the solenoid, a large black rectangular unit, from the DC Power 12 Volt
panel It was discovered the underside was open to the atmosphere and that a transparent
coating had formed on the two inner contact copper bolt heads and the movable copper
washer attached to the solenoid plunger. Cleaning these parts with fine sandpaper restored the solenoid to proper operation.

Please reference "Dolphin" in the subject line so that
he doesn't delete your e-mail if he doesn't recognize
your screen name. I have received just a few, but I
want MORE! If you aren't sure which ones to send,
scan several and I will decide which one works
best. I need it to be fairly close-up so that I can see
your face. If you don't scan, have your children or
grandchildren do it for you. You could also mail
them to me by post office (9663 Briarwood
Ave., Fontana, CA 92335) and I will take care of
them and safely return them, but I would prefer
e-mail.
PLEASE send them to me SOON so that I don't get
them all in a crunch at the end just before the Chula
Vista Rally which is in October 2012. This will be
great fun, but I need YOUR help.
Thanks.
