Welcome to Midtown
Wayne State University and the University Cultural Center Association
(UCCA) share a common mission and vision — to stimulate residential
growth through incentive and promotional programs that benefit the Wayne
State community. We care about our neighborhood and the importance of
encouraging others to live here.
As such, Wayne State is proud to join with the UCCA to promote the
growth and development of Midtown. As one of the most culturally diverse
urban institutions in the world, Wayne State is a jewel in the city of Detroit.
Similarly, Wayne State’s Midtown neighborhood is a treasure of cultural and
educational opportunities for local residents as well as WSU students, faculty,
alumni and staff.
WSU and the UCCA believe in promoting Midtown as a residential living
destination to drive the expansion of retail, dining and entertainment
establishments. Wayne State’s beautiful new residence halls are a shining
example of how campus living can inspire those affiliated with the university
to invest time, money and energy into the community. Such are the fruits
borne by our transformation into a 24/7 university.
This guide showcases Midtown and the beautiful housing options available
here for ownership, as well as some for lease. A wide variety of apartments,
condos and restored residences give people who enjoy an urban lifestyle
a viable opportunity to embrace it. The developments include a range of
units at varying price points, including town and carriage homes, luxury
lofts and high-end historic restorations. All are within walking distance of
the city’s museums and premier cultural, entertainment and sports facilities.
In addition, living in Midtown has never been a more affordable or sound
investment strategy. Midtown developers are offering incentives, enhanced
further by tax breaks from the city.
We invite you to examine the many exciting properties in this guide. They
highlight the renaissance of the city of Detroit and the benefits of Midtown
living … Detroit-style. Welcome to the neighborhood!

A Vibrant Neighborhood
There is probably no neighborhood that has more to offer than
Midtown. The area was once home to aviator Charles Lindberg and
the Dodge Brothers, who tinkered in their garage to create their
world-famous automobiles. Today, Midtown is a vibrant blend of
history, luxury apartments, townhouses and lofts, and Detroit’s
own Wayne State University, College for Creative Studies, the
Detroit Medical Center and the University Cultural Center — all
making this a very attractive place to be. Midtown hosts 2 million
visitors annually, has a daytime population of over 50,000 and
has the largest concentration of cultural, educational and medical
institutions in Southeast Michigan. It has two radio stations, a
symphony, three historic inns, 10 theatres, seven museums, 36
restaurants, 11 galleries, and a great local bakery. Located just north
of the downtown Stadium and Theatre districts and adjacent to
all the major freeways, Midtown provides easy access to great local
attractions as well as to Detroit’s suburban communities.

Moorie Townhouse Estates, located in the heart of Brush Park,
features 20 unrivaled condominiums that offer modern amenities
encased in historic flair. Built in 1885, the home was the residence of
lumber baron Lucion S. Moore. Today’s developers envision Brush
Park to be a neighborhood community, a throwback to the porches
and parlors of a bygone era. At Moorie Townhouse Estates, this
stately mansion is a home. It is a place where residents will enjoy a
slower pace and a sense of family.
A tremendous collective effort was put forth by the architects,
engineers and construction planners to maintain the old-world
charm of this stately mansion and add innovative technology. All of
the materials, appliances, lighting and plumbing fixtures are energy
efficient, environmentally friendly and of the highest quality. Soundcontrol materials separate each unit, with fire alarms and security
systems incorporated into each townhouse.
This project will be completed in three phases. The first phase
featuring the historic property above, will be available in spring 2007
and consists of nine units. The consecutive phases will feature newly
constructed carriage houses and townhomes built on the adjacent
property that will embody the same historic feeling. Overall, nineteen
units will be available featuring two bedrooms and two baths. Only
one unit will consist of one bedroom and one and a half baths.
Currently, two units have already sold.

The Nine on Third Townlofts are at the gateway of historic West Canfield
Street on Third Street in Detroit’s vibrant Midtown community. Designed by
the award-winning architectural team at Archive DS and constructed by the
experienced builders at Shaheen Enterprises, these stately townlofts combine
the features of a loft — an open floor plan, exposed brick walls — with the
privacy of a trilevel townhouse, including a private entrance and interior
garage. Constructed with the highest quality materials throughout, buyers are
invited to participate in the selection of customized interiors. Nowhere else
can you have the excitement of modern urban living and this attention to
design and craftsmanship.
“Nine on Third couldn’t be better located. The townlofts are within
walking distance of the university and many of Midtown’s best cultural
and entertainment destinations. Plus, the living spaces are great —
tall ceilings, big windows, beautiful materials.”
