launch of our new 5.0Ah Li-ion battery which
provides 66% more run time than that of our
3.0Ah 18v battery, but maintains the same size
and weight allowing the excellent balance and
comfort of your Makita cordless power tool to
remain unchanged.
Recharge time is just 45 minutes when using
our fast charger which compares with 22
minutes for the popular 3.0Ah or 36 minutes for
the 4.0Ah Li-ion batteries.

new 5.0Ah Lithium-ion battery included.

Look for the ‘Star’ or a ‘Yellow Connector’
The 5.0Ah 18v Li-ion battery (BL1850) will work with your 18v machine if
it has a star on the connector plate, has a yellow connector plate with a
star or has a yellow connector plate only.

Makita Li-ion cordless tools that have a star
symbol on the connector plate, or a yellow
connector with a star on, or have a yellow

Shipshape At Water Craft Makita Cordless Canoe Challenge
For the third year running a Makita-powered craft has
won the Water Craft Cordless Canoe Challenge race,
organised by Water Craft magazine, which requires
small boats – not necessarily canoes – powered only
by conventional workshop cordless tools to race each
other around a testing course.
The 2014 challenge, sponsored by Makita, took
place at the Beale Park Boat Show on the Thames
back in June and again attracted a fleet of craft both
conventional in design and novel in appearance.

Hampshire firefighters crowned world’s finest
Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service has been crowned
World Extrication Champions at the 16th international
challenge. Held between 9 – 16 October at the Fire
Service College, Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucester,
the 6-man GB team took leadership of three of the
demanding challenges and were narrowly beaten in
just two more.
Makita tools, including cordless reciprocating saws,
grinders and re-bar cutters, form part of the on-board
kit that provides reliable and smooth operation in times
of emergency.
Makita supports ‘Team run 12’ in bid to help raise £25k for cancer research charities
We are delighted to donate prink cordless drill drivers
to Team Run 12 as a contribution towards their
challenging fund raising programme. Lead by 23-year
old Becky ‘Bexx Star’ Beard, the team aims to raise
£25,000 for Cancer Research UK and Breast Cancer
Care (BCC) in 2014.
Becky has set herself a goal to run 12 marathons in
12 months, including London, Wales and New York,
and having already completed nine of the events the
team has raised over £19,000. Becky says: “Running
nine marathons has been a huge challenge for me
personally as I am not a seasoned runner but it has
been mentally rewarding too and has helped me to
start to come to terms with this illness.”

DART, the Disaster Arborist Response Team,
is now equipped with Makita chainsaws ready
to deliver humanitarian aid and rescue services
anywhere in the world. Wherever a natural
climatic disaster occurs, the DART team and
their Makita chainsaws will be first responders.
Trained to clear fallen or dangerous trees these
operations will make it possible for other relief
agencies to access the location and
reach the population.
“By gathering a group of fully trained arborists to
be on standby for departure at a moment’s notice
we can really speed the relief actions in those
vital first hours.

CE marked and compliant with Eurocode standards
Makita nails for use in our range of gas nailers and highpressure air nailers are fully compliant with the Eurocode 5
specifications. This has been a mandatory standard since July
2013 for all fasteners used in structural timber construction and
it is an offence to use products that do not comply with EN1995
Eurocode 5. Distributors who continue to sell non CE compliant
products also face prosecution. “We are working closely with our
distributors to ensure they stock only CE marked products and
to advise their customers to operate within the boundaries of the
regulations,” says Andrew Bowden, technical director,
Makita Europe.
