MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Fall is finally here and I am hoping for some great driving
weather. I spent last week-end in Vonore, TN in the shadow
of the Smokies so drove the Tail of the Dragon over to NC and
back. What a great drive – twisty turns, scenic mountains and
lake, and a few Polizei hanging around. Traffic is always
heavy on week-ends but that doesn’t take away from the
experience. They have a lot of pull off areas now, so you can
always pull off and let traffic go by and then pick up the pace.
I thought a motorcycle was taking me out on one turn when he came around the curve on the inside with it
almost on its side going at least double the speed of light. Thanks to the photographers along the road, I
have some great shots of ―Sunny‖. If enough interest, we will schedule a week-end trip to that area next
year and tour the Cherohala Skyway and Tail of the Dragon.
I also enjoyed last month’s trip to Pritchard’s Distillery, Falls Mill, and Winchester for dinner. Vic Davis
treated us to an enjoyable and scenic trip. Dan Martin is planning a trip to Tullahoma to hook up with
Huntsville Porsche club and visit the Beechcraft museum. Hope you will participate in the trip as I had a
great time when I was there 4 years ago.
I was out of town last Saturday, but heard the AARC car show was a successful event, and that Vic Davis
and Neiland Pennington both won trophy’s. Congrat’s to both winners. I will also miss the Beechcraft
museum and fly-in as Shirley and I will be at Rennsport Reunion in Monterrey, CA. I know of a few other
folks going – anyone else I am not aware of? Gregg Hardman has arranged a group dinner at Baja Cantina
on Saturday night. Too bad Jon couldn’t go, but we will take lots of pictures.
We are changing up our meeting locations for the fall with Gerhst Haus in October, and Lane Motor
Museum in November. Note the Nov meeting is on a Monday, which is the only night they can
accommodate groups and clubs. We will plan to provide something to eat at a nominal cost, and still allow
you time to tour the museum after dinner. No meeting in Dec and then our banquet in January. We will
again recognize our Enthusiast of the Year, and have a close race for that honor. We may have an opening
on the board for next year so let me know if you are interested in joining a great leadership team.

Join us as we meet up with our Porsche friends from the Heart of Dixie Region, and fire up our air
cooled, water cooled and just plain cool Porsches and head to Tullahoma for a great day at the
Beechcraft Heritage Museum.
This annual fly-in will feature 75+ vintage aircraft. We will share our enthusiasm for Porsches
with equally enthusiastic Beechcraft aircraft owners. Museum group tours will be available, or
individuals can tour the museum at their own pace. We will have lunch on the premises, a
privately owned Beechcraft will be flying in for the big celebration and in addition to seeing some
really cool airplanes inside the museum, outside, you will have the opportunity to talk to
Beechcraft owners and inspect their aircraft. A group Photo opportunity of participants and cars
will be available upon arrival.
As we all know, HOD members are EXTREMELY active. While their total
membership is much smaller than ours, they really turn out for events such as
this. We do not want to be upstaged in our own backyard, so RECRUIT your
friends and help make this our biggest event of the year!

take is still to be tweaked but will be set before our next

Reunion IV Update
Stellar lineup of drivers and cars for
Porsche’s celebration of its motorsport
heritage
For the Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV taking place at Mazda Laguna
Seca Raceway in October, it’s both the men and machines that are
expected to draw one of the largest crowds in track history. And, if
early sign-ups are any indication, both elements will not disappoint.
Just a glance at the guest list reveals names that are well entrenched in
Porsche Motorsport history. For example, Vic Elford, who won the
Monte Carlo Rally and scored Porsche’s first overall win at the 24
Hours of Daytona – on back-to-back weekends; James Weaver,
Porsche 962 driver for Dyson Racing and a Daytona and Sebring
winner; Gijs van Lennep, Dutch Porsche 917 and 911 driver who won
Le Mans with Helmut Marko and the last Targa Florio with Herbert
Müller; Chip Robinson, IMSA champion with Al Holbert in a
Porsche 962; George Follmer, who took the turbocharged 917 to CanAm championship; Dan Gurney, who scored Porsche’s first successes
in Formula 1; and Hurley Haywood, the most successful Porsche
endurance driver with wins at Daytona, Sebring and Le Mans. More
than 50 drivers of similar stature
have already said ―yes‖ to Porsche’s invitation for the October 14-16,
2011, Rennsport event. The rest of the names will be announced as
the event gets closer.
And it’s not just drivers that made their Porsche race cars famous.
Attendees will include Norbert Singer, recently-retired Porsche
Motorsport engineer, known as the father of the Porsche 962; Hans
Mezger, who headed up the Porsche Motorsport racing engine
function from his Dan Gurney F1 motors through the 917, 935, 962
and McLaren F1 engine; and Alwin Springer, former Vasek Polak
917 crew member who later built engines at his company Andial and
served as president of Porsche Motorsports North America.Jörg
Bergmeister, Patrick Long, and the rest of the current Porsche factory
drivers, will all attend Rennsport.
The Porsche Club of America is honored to assist the Porsche
Rennsport Reunion IV with several activities: History of the Porsche
911 Display, Porsche Model-Specific Parking Corrals with Parade
laps of the track, PCA Hospitality and Membership Center, two race
groups: Rennsport Reunion Cup for Porsche Cup Cars and PCA Club
Racing for PCA race cars, and PCA Volunteer Pool—workers to
assist with the club’s involvement. Enhancing the Rennsport Reunion
Cup race, Michelin Tire Company comes on board as the spec tire
manufacturer for that exciting contest.

We are looking for exceptional examples of Porsche 911 production
models for the History of the orsche 911 Display at Mazda Raceway
Laguna Seca during the event. It will be a display representing the
911 model throughout its generational life. Please contact Tom

PCA members will be invited to use a terrific PCA Hospitality and
Membership Center that will be open for all days of the event,
October 14-16, to park safely in one of the Porsche Model-Specific
Parking Corrals (a corral parking ticket will be

information), and to enjoy Parade laps of the track with their
Porsches.
We will need PCA volunteer workers to assist with our activities at

After Cars & Coffee, we will head out on a
scenic tour of Williamson, Bedford and
Rutherford Counties and end up in Bell
Buckle for lunch at the Bell Buckle Café
around 11:30am.
Bell Buckle, Tennessee (pop. 463) was settled
in the late 1700's around a spring that supplied
the area's fresh water. It was also a supply of
water for the native Americans, and this led to
several cultural exchanges. One such
encounter resulted in our town's unusual name.
In the 1800's the railroad came to Bell Buckle
and by the early 1900's it had brought
prosperity and Bell Buckle was a boom town.
Now Bell Buckle has become a Mecca for
artisans, craftsmen, antiques, good food and
music.
Tennessee's Poet Laureate Maggi Vaughn and
three sculptors: Russ Faxon in bronze, Bill
Ralston in stone and Sherry Hunter in mosaic
all have received state commissions and call
Bell Buckle their home. The Webb School,
located in Bell Buckle, is one of the most highly
regarded private schools in the country.

About the PRCC
On October 16, 2011 the Porsche Race Car Classic
will bring together 200 Porsche race cars from 19501965 at the world famous Quail Lodge in Carmel,
California. This gathering of purpose-built and
production Porsches represents the largest
gathering ever of the cars that put Porsche on the
racing map so many years ago.
The race cars will range from the 550 Spyders of the
early 50s to the 904s of the early 60s with all the
many purpose-built racing models represented plus
356 coupes, Speedsters, and more. The cars, their
owners, and the public will be joined by famous
Porsche race car drivers from that golden era of
Porsche’s history.

The Porsche Race Car Classic - which has been
years in planning - will be a fitting conclusion to
Porsche's Rennsport Reunion IV which will take
place just down the road at Mazda Raceway Laguna
Seca on the same weekend. While Rennsport IV will
have a few of these cars, the vast majority will be
only at the Porsche Race Car Classic and the
PRCC owes much to Porsche Cars North America
and Porsche AG who have been so supportive of
the Race Car Classic.
The Porsche Race Car Classic will offer all of the
amenities that are to be expected at the world-class
Quail Lodge venue. Meanwhile all net proceeds will
go directly to our charitable partners - the Bonnie J.
Addario Lung Cancer Foundation and the University
of California, San Francisco Thoracic Oncology
Program to aid in lung cancer research. The PRCC
is committed to raising significant funds to help to
battle this most-deadly and least-funded of the

Enter The Mille 2011 Sponsored by Porsche USA
Back in 2008, a group in Germany organized by Ingo Robener, and known as “PorscheFreunde”, put together a parade lap of
2325 Porsches and set a Guinness World Record for the “largest parade of Porsche cars” that still stands today. TheMille.com
(online home of the Mille 2011 Sponsored by Porsche) is taking a shot at breaking the record this November at the Atlanta
Motor Speedway.
With support from Porsche Cars North America, and supplemented by many national and local sponsors, the Mille provides
multiple activities (i.e. various Porsche model corrals, autocross events, Porsche Cars “For Sale” Corral, Porsche Parts &
Literature Swap Meet, etc.) for Porsche owners, enthusiasts and their families. The cornerstone of the event is, of course, an
attempt at a Guinness World Record with the largest number of Porsches in a single parade.
Classic, Current and Racing Porsches All Participating
To help facilitate the attempt, the Mille 2011 Sponsored by Porsche has arranged with the Georgia State Patrol, Henry County
Sheriffs Department and the Georgia Department of Transportation to allow and escort all Porsche cars (including current
and historic Porsche race cars) on the three (3) mile parade route along public roads.

This is a wonderful Porsche event! Last year there were about. 200 Porsche’s in
attendance along with our previous PCA National President Kurt Gibson. It’s a
fairly low key event with several organized scenic drives in addition to a
―spirited‖ drive for us lead foots, a car show, an informal banquet and a autocross
event. I plan to attend again this year and hope you will join me.

I first became interested in cars when in the spring of 1964 my Dad pulled in the drive with a 1957 Ford Fairlane 500. It was finished in a typical 50’s
color scheme of turquoise and white. With a Police Interceptor engine and factory air it was quite an upgrade from the ’57 VW Bug we had been
crammed into. From Nashville we drove that 500 to San Francisco and shipped her to Honolulu where my Dad was stationed in the Air Force. Then we
went on to Okinawa where I fell in love with sports cars. The Datsun Fairlady was the precursor to the Nissan 240Z and was very popular among the
troops at $1,800 per copy (keep in mind this was 1965-66). I returned to Nashville in 1966 to attend MTSU and quickly bought my first car, a 1957 MGA
in BRG with wires. A fun car that won a lot of autocross trophies in its day. I just wish the previous owner had told me it had two 6 volt batteries. One
behind each seat. Well the MGA was sold to my best friend. He drove it for 2 years before selling it and we still kick each other’s butts for selling it. A
new 1968 MGB was my next ride. I had my Dad buy it in England and ship it home. $2,400 total price shipped. A new one bought locally at John Tune
(where the Volvo dealership is now on Murfreesboro Rd.) with the same equipment was $3,200. By the way it was ordered with wire wheels, a radio, a
front anti-roll bar and overdrive. I campaigned that MGB all over middle Tennessee autocross courses and won a few boxes of trophies. So many, that
I used to drain oil in them, then toss them into the garbage. (I’m sure none of my spent oil ever got into the water supply). While at MTSU, I was a
member of the Blue Raider Sports Car Club, serving as the club president my last year. What fun. Auto-crossing was big in the 60’s. We had events on
campus. (You just notified the security guards and they locked off the parking lot for you.) In Nashville Harding Mall parking lot and the Fairground
Speedway were popular venues and in Clarksville the Two Rivers Mall parking lot was frequently used. One of my favorite memories was winning best
time of the day (all classes) in Clarksville with 65 cars competing. Another treat was when Toly Arutunoff was in town and would drive his Lambo Miura
in our competition. (Google Toly’s name. He’s had a tough time lately.)
On to Porsches. My first was a 1965 356C coupe. It was slate gray with red leather seats and enough rust to sink a battleship. It did have a great
rebuilt engine however and that made it a fun ride. The coupe had a rattling ring and pinion gear when I bought. My friend Bill Andre, a former Porsche
mechanic turned salesman at Madison Smith Naturally (the Nashville Porsche dealer in the 60’s-80’s), loaned me a workshop manual. I bought a used
transaxle and made the swap. Who knew there was 50 gallons of oil in a 1964 SC transaxle. I put Sta-Dri on that garage floor for 5 years! Well the gray
coupe was sold to my old college roommate. They both died in a tragic one-car accident on OHB in 1976. God Bless You Rob McLemore.
In 2004 I bought the Speed Yellow Boxster S that I currently drive. What a joy. It’s taken my wife Donna and I) on numerous trips to Keeneland and
other destinations like Charlotte for the 2008 Porsche Parade.
We also have a nice 1964 356SC. (I know it needs painting! You don’t have to tell me.) This car was formerly owned by Tommy Trabue. That has to be a
huge let-down for the SC. It’s like going from the Penthouse to the Outhouse. Oh well. It’s loved just the same. We both love riding in the SC. No it’s not
as quick as the Boxster but it may be a little more fun. I bought the car from Jim Watson. I first met Jim in 1976 when I owned the slate gray C coupe.
Jim’s shop was under the beauty shop across the street from his current location in Lewisburg on Martin Street. Let me say this about Jim. He was
never too busy to share his time with me. If he was under a car, he climbed out, wiped his hands off and talked. He would answer any question I asked.
He would share his stories and give advice. One day he walked me outside of his shop to an adjacent door with a padlock. He said I want to show you
something. It was the first RSK I had ever seen. I saw the car again this year at Tommy Trabue’s garage in White Bluff. It’s unrestored. It looks like it
just came off the track. Just like it did in Watson’s garage.
Donna and I have truly enjoyed being members of Musik Stadt. The monthly meetings and weekend drives have been loads of fun and our fellow
members are great! I often feel sorry for those who own Porsches but don’t belong to Musik Stadt, the Tennessee Tubs or some other Porscherelated club. Yeah their cars may be great. But their experiences aren’t the same. The only time many of them talk with another Porsche owner is in
the service waiting area of Nashville Jaguar, Porsche Audi. It’s too bad. They need to be members of Musik Stadt!

SCENIC TOUR

A great time was had by all!

Everyone knew they were in for a great day when they got up on Saturday morning, September 10. The day was bright and sunny without
a cloud to be found. Sixteen Porsche pilots and their crews had been looking forward to this day for weeks. Vic and Judy Davis had created
a great day for the Musik Stadt Region of the PCA. With a noon start the group headed south on I-65 through quaint little towns like
Lewisburg, Petersburg and Belfast until we arrived at Pritchard’s Distillery in Kelso, Tennessee. In 1822 Grandaddy Benjamin Pritchard, of
Davidson County, passed his still, tubs and utensils through his will to his son Enoch. He had used high sugar-content white corn, pure
Tennessee water and pot-stilling techniques to make his whiskey. Owners Mike and Joyce Hendrix proudly gave us a great tour of their
operation and a history of the old Kelso School where their business is located. In operation since 2000 Pritchard’s may be the youngest
and smallest distillery in the state but they have the widest assortment of products ranging from award winning American rums, to their
Benjamin Pritchard’s Double Barrel Bourbon and finally the crowd favorite Sweet Lucy. Following our Pritchard’s tour we headed east on
Hwy 64 to Falls Mill just outside of Winchester.

We visited the Falls Mill operation that has been operating since 1872. Built of bricks made on the site the imposing 3-story mill
is quite impressive. Falls Mill has operated as a flour and grist mill since 1969. The antique grain milling equipment was
collected from five different old mills and factories but most of it came from the Boiling Fork (Little Red) Mill in Winchester,
Tennessee. All equipment in the mill is powered from the water wheel and most of it is still used on a regular basis. While
Falls Mill is now operating as a grist mill that is not what it has always been. Falls Mill was completed in 1873. It replaced an
older cotton spinning factory build here about 1840. Bricks for the building were molded and fired on site. Timbers were sawed
on an "up-and-down" sash sawmill, lap-jointed, and pegged together. The saw mill was powered by a water wheel, just not the
current water wheel. Cotton was spun into thread and wool was carded here until about 1906, using waterpower. Coarse cloth
was also produced for a short time in the early 1880's. The owners gave not only a great tour of how the mill came to be and
how it operates, but also a glimpse of what life was like in this rural area 125 years ago. The idyllic setting made many of wish
we had brought a picnic basket, or at least a bottle of wine to sit and enjoy life by the stream. Not to be. It was load up time

one called Arrezzo’s. Fabulous food, a great setting on the square which quickly turned into a Porsche Platz! A great time was

CARL GEORGE TECH SESSION
AND RALLY
We had a great turn-out for Carl George & Tennessee Tubs tech session and rally in
late August. George's garage remains a show place to visit with his personal
collection of cars, as well as those he stores for others. After coffee and donuts and
a lot of looking at great vehicles and talking to old friends, Gary Schield gave us a
class on how to properly clean and wax our vehicles. Afterward, Carl sent us out to
the hinterland with rally instructions that led us to Miller's Grocery in Christiana TN.
After lunch, the rally-master handed out the trophy to Mike Moody and Jay McCook
from Athens, AL. A good time was had by all, and we want to thank Carl, Gary and
everyone in the TN Tubs that contributed to a great day.

Just a reminder to watch Jade, Sunday on Speed Channel at Noon CT, 1:00 PM ET . The actual race was on Saturday, September 17th, but
is shown on Speed Channel on a tape delay basis. The #33 Kinetic Motorsports BMW M3 of Jade Buford and Ben Clucas qualified 10th in
a field of 71 cars. Ben started the race and did an outstanding job driving from 10th to 2nd over the first 45 minutes of the race. There
was a caution at the 50 minute mark, Ben was instructed to pit ( he was in 6th place at that point ) , accordingly , he came into the pits for
tires, fuel and driver change. Jade left the pits in 40th position and proceeded to move up to 1st over the next 10 laps. Jade held 1st and
2nd for the next 17 laps or 35 minutes of the Race. Jade and Ben were in the top 5 out of 71 cars for 2 hours and 15 minutes of the 2 and
half hour race. Jade drove 1 hour and 40 minutes of the race. Jade's Team made a huge mistake by pitting too early for Ben's pit stop
causing them to have to make a 2nd pit stop. We should have pitted at the 1 hour 10 minute mark, which happen to be when the next
caution occurred. Our pit stops are too slow for us to make two stops. As a result Jade had to pit for a splash of gas with 15 minutes to
go in the race and Jade when from 5th to 38th, after the pit stop Jade passed 20 cars in the last 10 minutes of the race to finish 18th
about 20 seconds out of the lead. This is the ultimate team sport, everyone contributes directly to where you finish. Thirty-nine cars
finished on the lead lap at the end of the race. This race was held at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Lexington, Ohio, a 2.3 mile, 13-turn road
course. They got lots of TV time. Please tune in Sunday; this was our last race for 2011.

For 2011, Jade has run the full season in the Grand-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge. He was driving the Kinetic's #33, a 2010
BMW M3 in the GS Class.
For 2012, Jade will again run in the Grand-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge in the GS Class driving for Jack Roush Racing (Mega
NASCAR Team Owner) in a 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302R. Jade's co-driver will be Shelby Blackstock from Nashville, TN. Shelby is Reba
McEntire's son. Jack Roush is the Top Team in Grand-AM. Both Jade and Shelby will relocate to Roush's NASCAR Operations in Concord,
NC and participate in Roush's driver development program for all next year. Jade's Mustang will be the sister car to the Roush #61 which
finished 2nd in both championship and this race. Jack Roush Jr. and Billy Johnson drive the #61 Mustang. Jade's next race is the Daytona
Continental Tire Grand-AM Race January 27th and the Rolex 24 Grand-AM Race on January 28th and 29th. This is a huge opportunity for
both Jade and Shelby and next year should be both fun and very exciting.
Jade is one of the youngest top full-time drivers in both the Rolex Grand-AM and the Continental Tire Challenge Series.
