Introduction
Numerous projects require anchors
to be removable after use to ease
future excavation and drilling works
in these areas. Strand or bar anchors
are fabricated from a very high steel
grade. Anchors left in the ground after
use can cause difficulties in future
drilling and excavating procedures since
most drilling/excavating equipment
is not equipped to cut/bore through
prestressed steel. In an increasing
number of geotechnical projects,
the steel tendon needs to be removed
after use. In some areas, only the free
length has to be removed, whereas in
other areas, the removal of the complete
steel tendon is required.
Main Applications
■■ Excavations
■■ Stabilization of Construction Stages
■■ Temporary Tiebacks
■■ Urban Construction
General Concept
From a technical point of view DYWIDAG Anchors can be divided into tension type and compression type anchors.
Tension Type Anchor
A typical tension type anchor can be
divided into two main areas, the anchor
free length and the anchor bond
length. Within the anchor bond length
the strand/bar is bare and surrounded
by grout. Within the anchor free length
the anchor is unbonded. Having an
anchor free length is a basic need
when active stressing of an anchor is
required. When stressing the anchor
the forces within the strand/bar are
constant until reaching the transition
area between free- and bond length.
Within the bond length the forces
are transferred step by step to the
surrounding grout matrix. The grout
matrix typically is tension loaded
which leads to radial cracks. From
the grout matrix the stressing loads
are transferred to the surrounding soil
body. The picture on the right shows a
typical bond stress distribution along
the anchor bond length. In general, the
bond behaviour between grout matrix
and soil body is the governing criteria

General Concept of DYWIDAG Anchors
Compression Type Anchor
A compression type anchor consists
of an unbonded strand/bar which
transfers the applied loads from the
stressing jack directly to a structural
element at the distal end of the anchor.
From there, the stressing loads are
transferred via compression bodies into
the grout matrix. In this case the grout
matrix is compression loaded. From the
grout matrix the loads are transferred
into the soil body. As it can be seen
in the drawing on the right, the bond
behaviour between grout matrix and soil
body is the governing criteria to derive
the anchor bond length. Due to the fact
that the grout matrix is compression
loaded, the compression body length
is usually shorter than the anchor bond
length. The grout area in front of the
compression bodies acts hereby like a
compressive grout strut which is needed
to transfer the stressing loads into the
surrounding soil body.
The anchor bond length which depends
on soil bond values can be derived
through standardized testing procedures
like investigation and/or suitability tests.

DYWIDAG Removable Strand Anchors
Removable Strand Anchor – DYWIDAG QuickEx®
Key Features
■■ Compression type anchor according
to DIN 4125, EN1537 and
DIN SPEC 18537
■■ Strands are fully removable due to the
PE tube cover along the full anchor
length
■■ Patented anchorage system ensures
easy and safe removal of the anchors
■■ Strands can be removed within a few
minutes
■■ Only PE tubes, compression bodies
and end anchorage remain in
the ground, which do not disturb
subsequent construction works
(pile driving, excavation, TBM)
■■ Patented compression body design
ensures load transfer from the strands
to the grout body
■■ Removal is carried out by technicians
using conventional tensioning
equipment
■■ Strands are not greased → no grease
pollution disturbs later removal
process
■■ Removability can be tested directly
before applying the final stressing load
by twisting the strands
■■ Anchors are delivered coiled on pallets
2.After releasing the force to zero,
start rotating strands to dissolve the
extruded grips from the footbox
3.Remove strands manually
■■ Easy removal also in case of limited
space conditions
■■ Simple handling on site
Removal Principle
1.Extruded grip position during stressing
and after applying the final lock-off
load
