Then, a special treat for the hometown crowd, Tracy Byrd played a 30 minute opening set
for Reba. The audience was captivated by the star from their own back yard sharing some
of their favorite hits.
“Shootin for a Miracle”
Reba then took the stage, in the boots of a country girl and the silver sequined top of a diva.
Reba intertwined the story of her career with her hit songs from the late 70’s to present
day. Reba is a star of the big screen, small screen, as well as Broadway. And at her core,
this Oklahoma girl is a traditional country singer with a tremendous range in the mold of
her hero, Patsy Cline. Reba took the audience on an emotional journey, sharing such hits
as, “Whoever’s in New England” to “Fancy” and “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia”.
When the lights went out on stage, and Reba’s performance came to a close, the audience
sent her off with a standing ovation. From start to finish, the 34th Annual Gala brimmed
with exclusive entertainment, delicious delicacies, and country chic. Start making your
plans to join us in 2015 – when we’ll celebrate 35 years supporting the Southeast Texas
community!

THANK YOU TO ALL NUN RUN PARTICIPANTS!
19th Annual B.J Stelly Memorial Bike Blessing and Nun Run was held on Saturday April 19, 2014. Over 510 bikes came to the Port Arthur Seafarers’ Center for a
blessing and the Nun Run immediately following.
The newly blessed bikes left the Port Arthur Seafarers’ Center for a leisurely ride to Beaumont, with the final destination being the CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Outpatient Pavilion. The bikes were lead by our very own Sister Jessy and Sister Tess. Upon arrival CHRISTUS volunteers and employees served the ride participants

The Bike Blessing and Nun Run were both hugely successful; allowing for Children’s Miracle Network to raise money by selling raffle tickets for a 50/50 drawing
and for a boat at both the Seafarers’ Center and the CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Outpatient Pavilion.
RODEO CLOWNS VISIT CHRISTUS

Rodeo Clowns with the Young Men’s Business League (YMBL) South
Texas State Fair and Rodeo stopped by for their annual visit with the
children on the pediatric floor of CHRISTUS Hospital – St. Elizabeth.
The children were all smiles when the clowns entered their rooms.
Some were even lassoed including, Nurse Mary Handy, who was
caught while between caring for patients. Thanks to the YMBL for
sending the special guests to our Children’s Miracle Network Hospital!

ZOE’S STORY
Zoe is a typical young girl; often playing outside with neighborhood friends,
creating her latest masterpiece, or enjoying time with her family. She has a
picture perfect life full of love and joy. Everything was going according to plan
until one beautiful Sunday afternoon while playing a game of hide and seek
outside with friends.
The afternoon was beginning to turn into evening and it was time for Zoe to
come in for the night. Her mother called out for Zoe to come in for the evening,
and being a typical child, she begged for fifteen more minutes of play time. Her
mother agreed and Zoe ran to the field across the street to finish her game. That
is when Zoe’s world completely changed.
As Zoe crossed to the street to go home, she was hit by a motorcycle traveling
at a very high speed. She did not see or hear it coming. The force of the impact
with the bike was so great it sent Zoe flying into the neighbor’s yard, leaving her
gasping for air and in severe pain.
Zoe was immediately transported to CHRISTUS Hospital-St. Elizabeth for
treatment. Upon arrival the emergency room doctors began to troubleshoot to
find all of Zoe’s injuries. It was determined that she had a torn liver, crushed right
leg, a broken arm and had lost three pints of blood. She was critical and needed
immediate surgery. The CHRISTUS trauma team began the lifesaving operations
and then placed her in a medically induced coma to alleviate her pain. Zoe was
in CHRISTUS Hospital-St. Elizabeth for 24 days in the ICU and in the pediatric unit.
According to Zoe’s mother, Dana, the time spent on the pediatric floor was
comparable to that of a “resort.” There
was a calming and peaceful aspect to
the pediatric floor for Dana. She could
tell it was truly designed for children.
Every detail, from the path of fish on
the floor to the Xbox in the playroom,
and even the colors were designed
for children. Each room has abundant
closet space and ample room for
an extra recliner so both parents can stay the night. Dana was relieved to have
those amenities available so she wouldn’t have to leave Zoe’s side. They were
so appreciative of the constant open communication on Zoe’s condition. They
knew moment by moment what was happening. Without the CHRISTUS Health
Foundation and Children’s Miracle Network, the pediatric floor accommodations
would not have been possible. Through generous donations the pediatric floor
was renovated and updated with state of the art equipment to better serve the
needs of local children and their families.
Dana and her family are grateful for the first class care Zoe received at CHRISTUSSt. Elizabeth. Being able to stay close to home and not travel to Houston for Zoe’s
care was truly a blessing. The team of surgeons, doctors, nurses, and staff made
that possible for them. Zoe will make a full recovery due to the dedicated team of
CHRISTUS Hospital-St. Elizabeth.

As the heat of summer inches closer, we have begun eagerly looking toward the fall. Our annual sporting clay shoot, “Shootin’ for a Miracle,” returns on October 4th at the One in One Hundred Gun Club in
Lumberton, and our annual Golf Tournament, “Swinging for a Miracle,” arrives just two weeks after, on
October 17th at Bayou Din.
Whether you love music, shopping, fishing, shooting or golf, we have a way you can enjoy yourself while
