1. Consumer preferences are based on brand name appeal and today’s F&I departments
need all the tools necessary to create income. Since 1911.The Simoniz® brand has
been a leader in appearance products. Simoniz® was made the exclusive licensee of
DuPont Teflon for several industries including the New Car Automotive market on
Oct 2nd 2001 making our program the highest consumer branded program in the
marketplace.
2. Simoniz® is the exclusive licensee of DuPont Teflon (industry first). Our Teflon
interior process (made by the makers of DuPont StainMaster) for fabric seating and
carpeting is the number one process used in the United States. Please visit

3. Simoniz insures every warranty from dollar one. The Enviro-Seal® program does
not promote or state on their warranty to the consumer of any warranty insurance
backing. Without true insurance backing, Enviro-Seal® claims are paid by the
company itself. If the company becomes insolvent, you the Dealer can be left liable.
Ask for a copy of their insurance policy
4. Written into our warranty is a back up administrator (industry first) who maintains a
direct relationship with Great American in the event we go out of business. This
protects you the Dealer and the Consumer by allowing claims to still be paid. We are
the only company that insures their warranty in this fashion. There is no language in
the Enviro-Seal® warranty that protects the Dealer and the consumer in the event that
Enviro-Seal® ceases to operate. How does Enviro-Seal® handle claims if they go
out of business? How are you protected?
5. Simoniz® has developed a bumper-to-bumper training available online (industry
first) to help assure proper installation of our products. It is backed up by a 20question online certification test, which prep department personnel take to become a
“Certified Technician”. Upon passing the certification we issue a framed diploma to
the participant.
6. Simoniz® has done extensive testing against many competitor products showing the
superiority of its GlassCoat™ ceramic resin technology. The Enviro-Seal product is a
standard wax polish. Please request GlassCoat™ testing data.
*Special Note. The Enviro-Seal® certificate used in this comparison offers two distinct
programs.
1.) A “Basic” program which covers the vehicles finish from weather induced fading and loss
of gloss only.
2.) A “Preferred” program that is the most similar to our GlassCoat program whose warranty
goes to 5 years on new vehicles. We used the “Preferred” program for this comparison.

superiority of the Simoniz GlassCoat process over the ECP product. It also shows
that the GlassCoat process permanently bonds to the clearcoat. Testing data is
available online at www.SimonizUSA.com in the Authorized dealer section
*Special Note. The ECP certificate used in this comparison offers several distinct programs
that Simoniz does not offer.
1.) An option called “Interior Protection Plus”. This coverage includes coverage’s we
consider non-compliant coverage for a limited product warranty i.e. The following is an
exact excerpt of the ECP policy (should the fabric, carpet, leather, and or vinyl become
damaged as a result RIPS,TEARS (less than 6 inches long) and/or PUNCTURES/BURNS
less that 1 inch in diameter)….(ECP will repair the damaged area without charge to the
vehicle owner.
Through legal opinions obtained by us we have ascertained that this is non-compliant
coverage which violates the benefits of a limited product warranty. Covering rips and tears,
puts the ECP program in our opinion into the insurance category, and the Dealer at risk for
selling a non filed service contract. We suggest you consult your own legal counsel.
2.) An (optional) seven year warranty that is renewable in increments of three years. For the
consumer to renew they must pay the Dealer “at prevailing prices” the cost to re-clean the car
and reapply the paint and interior process. However the coverage for renewals is limited
to “professional detailing only”.
3.) ECP offers an (optional) Environmental Wheel Appearance protection program. Simoniz
does not offer that coverage.
All data used to compare the competing program is updated constantly. If you feel this comparison to be

SERVICE ENGINEERING • BOEING COMMERCIAL AIRPLANES • P.O. BOX 3707 • SEATTLE • WASHINGTON 98124-2207

ATA: 7100C70
23 March 2005
SUBJECT:
INLET COWL LIPSKIN CORROSION PREVENTION
MODEL:
737-600/-700/-700C/-800/-900/ BBJ
APPLICABILITY:
All 737-NG Airplanes
REFERENCE:
737NG-FTD-71-00001, Inlet Cowl Corrosion During Long Term Storage
SUMMARY:
Some operators have reported surface corrosion on the engine inlet cowl lip skins after prolonged
parking or storage in warm, moist environments. As discussed in the referenced fleet team digest
article, Boeing has evaluated several methods to prevent corrosion on the lipskin, and determined
that Xzilon is an acceptable temporary protective coating for corrosion prevention.
BACKGROUND:
Boeing initiated an Equipment Quality Analysis (EQA) to determine the cause of the corrosion.
Results of the analysis identified that the primary cause of corrosion is stagnant water against the
surface of the lipskin. The engine prolonged parking and storage procedures in AMM 71-00-03
were revised to use alternate storage covers and inspect/wipe down the lipskin to prevent
accumulation of moisture. In addition, several methods of corrosion prevention were studied
including water displacing compounds, thermal spray coatings, and alternate lipskin materials.
The study concluded that alternate lipskin materials and thermal spray coatings were not
economically feasible. Of the water displacing compounds, Xzilon was determined to be an
acceptable temporary protective coating for corrosion prevention.
DISCUSSION:
The Boeing Company has tested Xzilon for performance of its intended function (corrosion
protection) and found that it offered enhanced corrosion prevention performance over anodized
or bare (polished) lip skins fabricated from 2219-T62. The following instructions are provided to
assist operators in the use and application of Xzilon as a preventative maintenance process.
737-SL-71-053-A
23 March 2005
1. A thorough chemical cleaning of the lipskin must be done with the cleaner furnished
from the Xzilon vendor prior to application. (Xzilon will not remove corrosion, but
will act to assist in preventing future corrosion.)
2. Cap the container when not in use. Check expiration dates before using the Xzilon.
The product should have a clear, unclouded appearance.
3. The Xzilon shall be applied with the materials supplied by the vendor for application.
The Xzilon shall be applied by CAREFULLY pouring a few drops onto the felt material
supplied and not saturate the applicator to the point of Xzilon dripping from the cloth.
4. The Xzilon shall be applied quickly to a SMALL AREA followed by an immediate
wipe dry with the clean, cotton cloth supplied. The Xzilon should not be allowed to dry
before it is wiped down. This will cause streaking. Direct exposure to sunlight or
warm surface temperatures can result in streaking.
5. The application should proceed around the lip skin until the entire surface has been
coated. The second and third coats can follow with at least 15 minutes drying time
between coating applications.
6. Boeing recommends that the cleaning and application of the Xzilon be done under
cover in a clean area in order to protect the surface from sun and heat so that drying
times are not altered and to protect from contaminants entering the work surface.
7. Reapplication should occur after the surface loses its shine. Boeing recommends a
schedule of checking the lipskins for visual appearance every two weeks for the first
two months and then adjusting the schedule according to operator experience based on
environment and use of the aircraft.
8. If repainting operations are to be performed on areas treated with Xzilon, prepare the
painted area according to D6-1816 to remove any silicone residue and provide adequate
adhesion to the paint
BOEING ACTION:
Boeing has reviewed Xzilon and has no objection for its use on the inlet cowl lipskin.
SUGGESTED OPERATOR ACTION:
Boeing suggests that operators evaluate the information provided in this service letter to
determine if the use of Xzilon as a corrosion prevention method for the inlet cowl lipskin during
storage would be beneficial to their aircraft.

1. Consumer preferences are based on brand name appeal. Since 1911.The Simoniz®
brand has been a leader in appearance products. Simoniz® was made the exclusive
licensee of DuPont Teflon for several industries including the New Car Automotive
market on Oct 2nd 2001 making our program the highest consumer branded program
in the marketplace.
2. *(see below) Although Xzilon utilizes a spray-paint demonstration as part of their
marketing plan they do not cover spray-paint as part of their warranty. Simoniz does.
3. Xzilon lists covering the fabric interior from permanent stains but excludes stains
from dyes, which include food dyes. Food dyes are one of the most common causes
of permanent stains and are covered by Simoniz®.
4. Simoniz® is the exclusive licensee of DuPont Teflon (industry first). Our Teflon
process (made by the makers of DuPont StainMaster) for fabric seating and carpeting
is the number one process used in the United States. Please visit www.teflon.com
5. Simoniz® covers staining on leather from any consumable food product plus urine,
vomit, crayons, blood, and lipstick. Xzilon leather coverage does not cover stains of
any form.
6. Rental car coverage is currently an exclusive (industry first) benefit to the Simoniz®
GlassCoat program. Xzilon specifically excludes it.
7. Simoniz through it’s insurer, insures every warranty from dollar one. Xzilon’s
certificate states it is insured by Virgina Surety, an excellent company. However,
because there are many methods and or levels of insurance we cannot determine the
depth of Xzilon’s coverage. We would ask anyone competing against the Xzilon
program to ask for a copy of their insurance policy from the Dealer. Of note would
be are they insured from dollar one on every contract they have written in the past and
in the future? Our program insured from dollar one. Our relationship with Great
American is not a catastrophic loss policy, stop gap policy, or the like. Nor are we
self or reinsured at any level. Those would be further questions to ask of the Xzilon
policy with Virginia Surety. Ask for a copy of Xzilon insurance policy for
comparison.
8. Written into our warranty is a back up administrator (industry first) who maintains a
direct relationship with Great American in the event we go out of business. This
protects you the Dealer and the Consumer by allowing claims to still be paid. We are
the only company that insures their warranty in this fashion. There is no language in
the Xzilon warranty that protects the Dealer and the consumer in the event that Xzilon
ceases to operate. How does Xzilon handle claims if they go out of business? How
are you protected?
9. Simoniz® has developed a bumper-to-bumper training DVD (industry first) to help
assure proper installation of our products. It is backed up by a 20-question online
certification test, which prep department personnel take to become a “Certified
Technician”. Upon passing the certification we issue a framed diploma to the
participant.
10. Xzilon “Vehicle Owner Requirements”, “Granitize Products strongly recommends
following the maintenance procedures for interior and exterior care as described in
the attached sheet.” The attached sheet “Care and Maintenance Tips” lists items
such as the consumer removal of stains including using a hot clothing iron to remove
waxy materials, and scrubbing stains out with an included Xzilon spot remover. It
also says the consumer should reapply the Xzilon Mink oil to the interior of the
vehicle three times per year or as necessary. It is also includes language about
washing the vehicle with a Xzilon Wash and Wax product, although the warranty
states wax is no longer necessary. The warranty also states under the “Limitation of
Coverage” section that “damage due to neglect or abuse” is not covered. If the
consumer does not use the Xzilon products is that viewed as neglect? Simoniz®
requires no specialized maintenance and has no such provisions in our warranty. We
merely ask the consumer to follow the recommendation of the manufacturer.
*It is our understanding that part of Xzilon marketing is to illustrate to the dealer and
consumer the strength of the Xzilon products by spray-painting a car. Although from a
gimmick point of view this could be compelling to a consumer, however, once the
vehicle is washed several times and exposed to the elements this particular gimmick no
longer works.
All data used to compare the competing program is updated constantly. If you feel this comparison to be
in error on any count please inform us so we may make appropriate changes. It is our position to win
business through the best possible business practices and affiliations. Thank you for considering our
program.

1. Consumer preferences are based on brand name appeal and today’s F&I departments need all the tools
necessary to create income. Since 1911, the Simoniz® brand has been a leader in appearance products.
Simoniz® was made the exclusive licensee of DuPont Teflon for several industries including the New
Car Automotive market on Oct 2nd 2001 making our program the highest consumer branded program in
the marketplace. F&I manager around the country sell our program with confidence.
2. We believe the used car market for programs such as ours is limited to the condition of the car as it gets
older. We have elected to go no further back than five years to minimize potential pre-existing issues to
the vehicle paint or interior. However unlike Cal-Tex we have just one level of comprehensive identical
coverage for both new and used vehicles.
3.
Simoniz GlassCoat is a Limited Product Warranty. We are providing warranty coverage against things
we know our chemistries can prevent or minimize. The Cal-Tex program includes coverage that we feel
their chemistries cannot prevent or minimize. We consider these coverage’s non-compliant for a
limited product warranty i.e. (sand abrasion, loose seam stitching, additional vinyl/leather protection
against weather-induced or ultraviolet-induced weakening of the vinyl/leather surfaces resulting in
punctures less that ¼ inch in diameter or rips or tears less than one inch). Through legal opinions
obtained by us we have ascertained these coverage’s violate the benefits of a limited product warranty,
and welcome undue scrutiny from State Insurance Commissioners’ and the CFPB.
4. We are not sure if Cal-Tex is providing a chemistry that is applied to the vehicle’s headlights and alloy
wheels. If not, it is a possible non compliant issue as a Limited Product Warranty.
5. Simoniz® is the exclusive licensee of DuPont Teflon (industry first). Our Teflon interior process (made
by the makers of DuPont StainMaster) for fabric seating and carpeting is the number one process used in
the United States. Please visit www.teflon.com See attached letter.
6. The paint chemistry used for our GlassCoat program is a Polysilazane (ceramic resin) which when
exposed to naturally occurring Hydrogen and Oxygen forms glass on the Clearcoat of a vehicle.
Simoniz® has done extensive testing against all competitor products showing the superiority of its
GlassCoat™ ceramic resin technology. Two specific tests were done on our GlassCoat chemistry. One
to show the durability of the chemistry, and the second to show it bonds to the Clearcoat. The original
The ResistAll® product failed at 600 scrub cycles. GlassCoat had no failure at 5000 scrub cycles. We do
not have current testing on their new chemistry. See Attached tests
7. Simoniz insures every warranty from day one dollar one. The ResistAll® program does not promote or
state on their warranty to the consumer of any warranty insurance backing. We will provide a copy of
our policy to compare to the Cal-Tex policy.
8. Written into our warranty is a back up administrator (industry first) who maintains a direct relationship

Simoniz is the most advertised car brand in the market.
2. The Ziebart warranty does not cover tree sap, hard water spotting, or spray paint.
Ziebart does not guarantee repairs if paint is damaged and cannot be restored. The
only alternative is for the customer to receive a refund of the original paid price of the
warranty. With the vehicle remaining damaged.
3. Ziebart requires the consumer to reapply all chemical at least yearly or the warranty
becomes invalid.
4. Ziebart does not guarantee repairs. If the stain does not come out, the only option for
the consumer is a refund of their money with the stain remaining.
5. Simoniz® is the exclusive licensee of DuPont Teflon (industry first). Our interior
Teflon process (made by the makers of DuPont StainMaster) for fabric seating and
carpeting is the number one process used in the United States. Please visit
www.teflon.com.
6. Rental car coverage is currently an exclusive (industry first) benefit to the Simoniz®
GlassCoat program. Ziebart specifically excludes it.
7. Simoniz insures every warranty from dollar one. The Ziebart program does not
promote or state on their warranty to the consumer of any warranty insurance
backing. Without true insurance backing, Ziebart claims are paid by the Ziebart
franchisee itself. If the franchise becomes insolvent, you the Dealer can be left liable.
Ask for a copy of their insurance policy.
8. Written into our warranty is a back up administrator (industry first) who maintains a
direct relationship with Great American in the event we go out of business. This
protects you the Dealer and the Consumer by allowing claims to still be paid. We are
the only company that insures their warranty in this fashion. There is no language in
the Ziebart warranty that protects the Dealer and the consumer in the event that
Xzilon ceases to operate. How does Ziebart handle claims if they go out of business?
How are you protected?
10. Simoniz has coverage up to the wholesale value of the vehicle. With Ziebart if any
claim on the paint or interior cannot be restored and the customer must receive a
refund of their purchase price of the program as settlement, the customers warranty
becomes voided and they lose remaining coverage.
What product would you as a consumer prefer to buy? What program would peak your
interest? What program do you think truly has your customers’ interest in mind?
What program do you think would sell more effectively?
All data used to compare the competing program is updated constantly. If you feel this comparison to be
in error on any count please inform us so we may make appropriate changes. It is our position to win
business through the best possible business practices and affiliations. Thank you for considering our
program.

An FTIR Analysis of the Interaction Between
Simoniz® GlassCoat™ and Automotive Clear Coat
S. L. Wunder (1) and C. M. Brunette (2)
(1) Professor of Chemistry, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA 19102 (2) PhD, Polymer Science and Engineering; Director of Marketing Simoniz® USA, Inc. Bolton, CT 06043
SUMMARY
In order to explain on a molecular level the extreme durability of Simoniz® GlassCoat™, when applied
to an automotive clear coat, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) studies were performed. By
monitoring changes in the intensity of characteristic bands in the FTIR spectrum of the clear coat, it was
found that, unlike other commercially available sealants, Simoniz® GlassCoat™ chemically interacts and
crosslinks, with the clear coat to provide a tough and durable coating.
INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND
Simoniz GlassCoat™ is a commercial clear coat and paint protectant applied to vehicles at new car dealerships. Based on proprietary polymer chemistry, Simoniz® GlassCoat™ polymerizes and crosslinks to a high
degree at room temperature in the presence of moisture without requiring a catalyst. The resultant ceramic
coating has been shown to have protective properties (i.e. corrosion and solvent resistance) and provide
hard, durable coatings with excellent thermal stability, non-wetting (hydrophobic) properties, and excellent
adhesion to wide range of substrates. Recently, independent testing at KTA-Tator, Inc.(1) using water shed
tests has shown that the integrity of Simoniz® GlassCoat™ remained intact after 5000 wash/buffing cycles
when applied to an automotive clear coat surface relative to four other commercially available protec®
tive sealants. The purpose of this study was to determine the nature of any chemical interaction that exists
between Simoniz® GlassCoat™ on the clear coat to account for its high degree of durability after repeated
washing/buffing using FTIR spectroscopy.
The technique of FTIR spectroscopy is used to identify compounds and functional groups in polymers
based on the absorption of infrared radiation at wavelengths that are characteristic of the vibrational mode
of the molecules. When a vibration characteristic of a functional group reacts to form a bond, the number
of the original groups, and thus their intensity, decreases. In this particular study, the clear coat investigated
was a urethane (R – N=C=O) based system in which the urethane reacts with HO-R –OH in the formulation.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
The FTIR band of the clear coat that is most useful is that of the isocyanate (O=C=N) at
2263cm-1. It is employed in the crosslinking reaction of the clear coat and its intensity (I)
was shown to decrease with cure. This band was ratioed with that of the C-O stretching mode
of the urethane at 1725cm-1 (R=I 2263cm-1/I 1725cm-1). However, because the clear coat
cures increasingly slowly with time, a procedure was needed to determine if the decrease in
R was attributed to the continued crosslinking of the clear coat or whether it arose from the
reaction between the clear coat and the Simoniz® GlassCoat™ or other sealants.
Samples of the clear coat were spun coated onto a salt plate and spectra were obtained at
room temperature (RT) as a function of time, t (Note: what is designated as t=0 may vary
somewhat between samples since some crosslinking may occur during sample preparation).
In the clear coat spectrum at t=0, R= 0.63. At t= 30min, 1hr, overnight, R decreased from
0.63 to 0.38 during these time intervals (Table 1). On another run, R=0.59 at t=5min and
0.56 at t=2hrs. Lastly, R decreased to 0.43 overnight to 0.35 after 2 days. (It is noted that
when an uncured sample of clear coat was heated at 110degC for 20 minutes to accelerate the
curing process, R decreased from 0.95 to 0.48). It is evident from these results that R decreases with cure, as the sample crosslinks.
In order to determine if there is further interaction (crosslinking) of the clear coat when
Simoniz® GlassCoat™ is added, as well as, a competitive sealant for comparison, (Sealant
X), the following was done. The clear coat was spun onto a salt plate, cured and an FTIR
spectrum was taken (R=0.38). The salt plate was divided in half and a drop of the Simoniz®
GlassCoat™ was added on one side and the other sealant on the other.
When Sealant X was added to the clear coat, negligible changes were noted (R =0.36 initially
and R=0.35 after 1 day. These results indicate both that the clear coat did not further cure,
and that no further reaction between the clear coat and this particular sealant occurred. This
finding is consistent with water shed testing of this material which had exhibited long drain
times and incomplete drainage after various scrub cycles due to significant coating loss. In
contrast, with the clear coat/Simoniz® GlassCoat™ sample, R decreased to 0.22 and remained at that value overnight. On another run, R decreased from R=0.37 initially to R=0.22
overnight. These results suggest that further crosslinking of the clear coat with the Simoniz®
GlassCoat™ is occurring; the O=C=N-R group of the clear coat reacts with the (OH)3-S-R’
groups of the Simoniz® GlassCoat™ forming covalent attachments. Thus, the FTIR results

clearly demonstrate on a molecular level that the extreme durability of Simoniz® GlassCoat™ after numerous wash/buff cycles when applied to the surface of the clear coat can be attributed, at least in part, to the
chemical crosslinking between the clear coat and Simoniz® GlassCoat™.

PRODUCT FAILURE TEST
INDEPENDENT TEST LAB: KTA-TATOR, INC.
INTERNAL USE ONLY
PRODUCTS TESTED: Simoniz GlassCoat, Auto Armor Paint Sealant, A Touch of Class Paint Sealant,
Perma Plate Paint Sealant, and DuPont CARe P022
SYNOPSIS
Simoniz USA commissioned KTA-Tator, Inc. of Pittsburgh, PA, the largest engineering
consulting firm in the country, to perform a Product Failure Test on Simoniz GlassCoat, Auto Armor Paint Sealant, A Touch of Class Paint Sealant, Perma Plate Paint Sealant, and DuPont CARe
P022. Each product was scrub-tested to performance failure, up to a maximum of 5000 scrub
cycles. This is a synopsis of the full KTA report entitled “Results of Wear Resistance and Water
Shed Rate Determinations; KTA-Tator, Inc. Project No. 280149R2.”
BACKGROUND
Because there is no known standard to test the water shed properties of automotive waxes and paint
sealants, KTA partnered with an agent of Simoniz USA, Inc. (Simoniz) to develop a standardized
method, which also tests the durability of the products. The goal was to produce a performance test
for automotive waxes and paint sealants that evaluated the durability of the products, producing
quantitative data with reproducible results that was easy to perform with readily available equipment.
The presence of the sealant coat can be inferred from the rate at which water drains off a coated test
panel. When water is sprayed onto the hood of an automobile, the way it runs off or recedes and
pools can, to the trained eye, indicate the presence or absence of a hydrophobic coating. Two (2)
other common methods to detect the presence of such a coating on a test panel, contact angle and
gloss measurements, have, by the client’s experience, proved to be inconsistent and unreliable. The
client arrived at the current test method by analogy with how water runs off coated and uncoated
patches on the hood of a vehicle.
SUMMARY
The testing consisted of determining the rate at which water was shed from the surface of Simoniz
GlassCoat compared to uncoated panels and panels coated with four (4) other automotive paint
sealant products. The water shed rates were measured by first inserting a painted clear coated panel
into a lift apparatus (Figure 1) within a tub containing potable water and recording digital video of
the test panels being lifted (Figure 2) from the water at a 55° angle from the horizontal. The number
of digital video frames from the point the panel emerges from the water until the water was shed
from the surface was then determined from a time-coded DVR. The water shed rates both before
and following subjection to a predetermined number of linear scrub cycles with a sponge and a
detergent/water solution were compared in order to gauge the durability of the products applied to
the test panels against the combined effects of physical scrubbing and chemical detergent.
