Head’s Welcome
Welcome back! The half term break flew
past, as will no doubt this short sprint to
Easter. The Prep School has been quick off
the blocks and the term is already racing
to a close.
As you can see from this stunning edition
of The Kingsley Moment we have been
terrifically busy. We still have a fantastic
wealth of events (and of course very hard
work) to cram into this short four week
session. We look forward to seeing you at
many of the forthcoming and unmissable
events.
Mr Paul Berry, Head of Prep
School Council
Our School Council has been busy
researching ways to improve our playground
and particularly the Quiet Area. Ideas have
included fun and unusual seating and litter
bins, and mirrors and murals for the walls.
This week, Mr Berry was invited to meet
with the School Council and listen to their
presentation. He asked them plenty of
questions and was impressed with their
Dragon’s Den pitch. The girls will now form a
special committee to continue to develop the
project for our play areas.
Thank you very much to our School Council
members for their hard work and brilliant
ideas. We are sure that the new School
Council, which has been elected this week,
will be just as keen to contribute to school
life. We will be introducing them in our next
newsletter.
House Points
Very close between the four Houses in the run up to Easter... who will have the most points by the
end of term? I do not think any of us could predict!
Inter-House Maths
There was great excitement amongst the
keen mathematicians of Gadesden, Loveday,
Huckwell and Milroy Houses when the annual
Interhouse Maths Quiz took place in the Prep
Gym before half term.
Teams comprised of pupils from Years 1 to 6
and were led by the current House Captains.
Challenging questions covering number, shape,
measure and problem solving were set by Mrs
Adair and read out by the quiz masters Sophie
Alder and Esmé Chapman. Scores were kept by
Sylvia Sinclair and Amy Barrett.
It was a very closely contested quiz, with
Gadesden and Milroy being declared joint
winners and scoring 20 house points for
their houses. Well done to all the fanstastic
mathematicians who took part in the quiz.
Iron Family
Have you met the latest additions to
Kingsley Prep? Around the school are
the four members of the Iron Family
– Al Uminium, Sal Uminium, Tintania,
Iron Isla and not forgetting, Copper,
their dog.
These models were designed and
created by Year 5HM, who were
inspired by ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted
Hughes. In their creative writing, the
girls imagined an alternative ending
to the book in which the Iron Man
had a family of his own. Inspired,
they planned the models using scale
drawings in their maths lessons and
then built them from junk resources as
a design technology project.

It’s that time again and Foundation and
Reception have been waiting with baited

Future Mechanics
As part of their travel and transport topic
Foundation and Reception have been
learning about cars and driving. They have
made their own driving licences, driven
the ‘cars’ outside and practised reverse
parking! The children have been learning all
of the names and functions of the different
parts of a car. They looked at photographs,
watched videos, looked at diagrams and
examined the school mini-bus!
Mothering Sunday
Service
Thank you to all those Mothers and
Grandmothers who joined us for our very
splendid Mothering Sunday Day Service
in The Holy Trinity Church on Friday 4th
March. It was great that our children could
show their appreciation in such a moving
way. We do hope you all have a fantastic
weekend and enjoy the real Mothering
Sunday just as much.

Year 1 and 2 also designed their own

and even gave their fruit salads special

Happy to be me!
Year 3 performed their class assembly on
Thursday 3rd March based on the theme
of their PSHE lessons, ‘It’s good to be
me’. The girls described and re-enacted
scenes containing people, objects and
activities which make them feel happy.
They discussed the importance of how we
should be happy with ourselves and how
we are each special and unique in our
own ways. It was an excellent opportunity
for the girls to share their appreciation
of important people in their lives and a
chance to reflect on their own special
individualities.
Science is a Gas!
Year 5 Scientists had a gas in their science
lessons this week, finding out about
chemical reactions that produce carbon
dioxide. Judging by the looks on some of
the girls’ faces, they were not expecting so
much CO2 to be produced by their potions!
Open Morning
Thanks to everyone who took part in and
supported us with our super Open Morning.
It was excellent to see so many pupils
participating, helping us to greet our guests
and also having a great time.
We hope thst everyone enjoyed themselves. For
those of you parents that liked that extra free
time though, we won’t make a habit of offering
a Saturday School!

What’s your favourite food?
Mrs Close
“It has to be Sunday roast! I cook it most weekends and I invite my family to come and eat. Most
Sundays, there are usually ten of us!
Where is your dream holiday destination?
“My favourite place in the whole world is Pig Island in the Caribbean so that I can swim with the pigs
in the sea!”
Do you have any hobbies?
“I love to read, play sports with my children and nephews, and I do try to swim three times a week!”
What kinds of music do you like?
“My taste in music is a real mixture! I do love most types of music but I tend to listen to different
styles music depending on who I’m with. So, I’ll listen to Irish music with my dad, classical music with
my mum and when I’m home, I love to jig around the kitchen to pop music!”
What is your favourite television programme?
“I don’t watch much TV but I do find ‘Gogglebox’ quite funny!”
What kinds of games did you like to play when you were a little girl?
“As a girl I loved being outside, so I spent my time cycling, roller-skating, climbing trees or swimming
in the lakes at Sutton Park!”
Name one crazy thing about yourself:
“I have been known to stay in the bath for two hours
at a time!”
And, finally, how did you become involved in
sport and decide to teach?
“Sport has always been my main passion in life and
I always wanted to teach it to children so that they
could share my love of sport!”

Set 1 maths had a lesson on solving equations
using function machines. They started by forming
expressions, recognising the order of expressions
and then using the inverse operations to find the
value of the variable.
This week was the first time the girls had tackled
equations in maths, and they all grasped the
concepts quickly and eagerly!

Bag2School
This term’s Parents’ Forum will be taking place
on Monday 14th March 2016. Please do come
along and join us for tea, coffee and pastries.
If there is something specific you would like to
raise, please let Mrs Parker know by Thursday
10th March so that it can be added to our
agenda.
Once again this year we are calling upon you
all to help out with our Bag2School appeal.
We will have a new set of bags in school
next week, and you can help by filling them
with unwanted clothes and textiles. When
collected these help to raise extra funds for
exciting new equipment at Kingsley. It is also
a superb example of recycling!
Year 3 Taster Day
No doubt Year 2 will be looking forward to
their exciting taster day next week, on Tuesday
8th March. Miss Clarke will be putting them
through their paces as they join her for the day,
so they can experience what it is like to be a
‘Junior’ for the first time.

Sport Relief 2016
Sport Relief is fast approaching on Friday 18th March, and Prep School
will be doing a variety of challenges, such as skipping and shooting
during their PE lessons. As part of Sport Relief, there will also be a nonuniform day on Friday 18th March where students are invited to dress
in appropriate sporting attire.
All we ask is for a one-off minimum donation of £5 for participation in
all/any of the events and will include a contribution to the Sport Relief
Wristband.
Marathon Runners
Miss Windsor and Mrs Davies are busy following a heavy
training schedule in order to be ready for the London
Marathon, on Sunday 24th April.
Miss Windsor is raising money for The Children’s Society,
and Mrs Davies is raising money for Cancer Research UK.
We wish them
both all the

inspired by their
dedication and
commitment to
fantastic causes!
Ride for a Reason
Kingsley were visited by cyclist James Golding in a recent
assembly, who came along to help inspire and challenge girls
to take part in fundraising and sporting challenges.
James’ story was fascinating, surviving cancer (twice),
septicaemia and peritonitis, completely rebuilding his body
and re-learning how to walk before embarking on several
cycling challenges across the world.
James has ridden across countries,
continents, over mountains and
through valleys, helping to be a
part of over £2,000,000 worth of
fundraising for MacMillan Cancer
Support.
As James said; “we are all capable of amazing things - my
journey started with wiggling my toes!”
Indoor Rowing
CWSSP Event at Campion School
Wednesday 24th February 2016
We went to the Indoor Rowing event with
a feeling of nervous excitement in the hope
that we could better our 3rd place from last
year.
The team was strong and our change overs
were good but could we pull it off on the
day?
Uchenna and Esme were up first for the
1 minute 30 seconds individual row. Both
performed brilliantly, Uch with 358 metres
(the furthest in the whole competition) and
Esme with 321 metres. Izzie and Amy then
followed with Izzie rowing 306 metres and
Amy 307 metres.
The distances were then added together and
we were in the lead with Telford 34 metres
behind us.
Zumbathon
The Prep School Zumba Club are
running a Zumbathon for Sport
Relief on Friday 18th March during
assembly time, to raise money for
the charity.
The tension was high going into the 4 x 1
minute relay, the change overs being crucial
and all teams were looking for the 1st place
position. The Kingsley team performed
smoothly, maintaining their technique and
managing the change overs with precision.
With a magnificent row of 876 metres we
breezed into first place with Telford 82
metres behind us overall.
We had to await the results from the next
session, St Margaret’s the winners from last
year being the favourites.
The email came through that evening, WE
HAD WON. The girls were delighted and will
now be in training for the County Final in
Rugby on Monday 14th March 2016.
