Noted for his "eleganceand strength"by the SalzburgerNachricten,Turkishpianist
OzgurAydin madehis major orchestraldebutin 1997with the BavarianRadio Symphony
Orchestra.In the sameyear,he won the renownedARD InternationalMusic Competition
in Munich and the Nippon Music Award in Tokyo, thus achievingstandingas a welcome
guestin concerthalls throughoutthe world. Frequentlyinvited to summermusic
festivals,he has appearedat the Salzburg,Schleswig-Holstein,and RheingauMusic
festivalsin Germany andat the IntemationalIstanbulMusic Festivalin Turkey. He is a
foundingmemberof the Aurata Quintet,and enjoysrecunent collaborationswith violinist
Midori, violist Naoko Shimizu and membersof the Berlin Philharmonic.
Born in Coloradoto Turkish parents,Mr. Aydin beganhis music studiesat the Ankara
Conservatoryin Turkey.He subsequentlystudiedwith PeterKatin at the Royal Collegeof
Music in London and with Karl-Heinz Kammerling at the HanoverMusic Academy.
StevenCassedy,Professorof LiteratureandAssociateDean of GraduateStudies
at UCSD, is a classicallytrainedpianistwho studiedat The Juilliard School'sPreCollegeDivision andat the University of Michigan's Schoolof Music. He receivedhis
undergraduate
degreein comparativeliteratureat the University of Michigan in I974 and
his Ph.D. in comparativeliteratureat PrincetonUniversity in 1979.
Foundedby PrinceElectorMoritz von Sachsenin 1548,the DresdenStaatskapelle
has
beena leadingensemblethroughoutvariousmusical eras,having beenin continuous
existencefor over four and a half centuries.Distinguishedconductorshave helpedshape
the developmentof this one-timecourt orchestra,including Heinrich Schtitz,Carl Maria
von Weberand RichardWagner,for whom the ensemblewas his "miraculousharp".

conductorlaureatesince1990.
Richard Straussand the Staatskapelle
were closely linked for almost70 years.Nine of
the composer'sopetaswere premidredin Dresden(including Salome,Elektra andDer

Daniel Harding is one of the brightestin a new generationof conductors.
He is the Music Director of the SwedishRadio SymphonyOrchestra,Principal Guest
Conductorof the London SymphonyOrchestra,Music Partnerof the New Japan
PhilharmonicOrchestraand Principal Conductorof the Mahler ChamberOrchestra.
