You stand there. Every morning. Every evening. With
You stand there. Every morning. Every evening. With your toothbrush and your toothpaste. You
scrub away. And the foam trickles off your lips and onto your chin. What will happen today? Or
tonight? CURAPROX tells you: don’t scrub. Don’t foam. There’s more to know about brushing and
this knowledge will really make you smile – for a lifetime: Mind the Gap at www.curaprox.com

Foreword
Anyone who has used the London underground
will be familiar with the warning: Mind the gap,
warning passengers about the gap between the
platform and train.
“Mind the gap” has now also become a
CURAPROX key message and here’s why.
This is why the
message is:
Yours truly
There are three types of gaps that are a real
danger to oral health:
• Anatomical gaps: the gap between tooth and
gum (sulcus) as well as the gap between the
teeth (interdental/approximal space)
• Then, there are the gaps in our knowledge on
the causes of diseases such as gingivitis,
periodontitis and peri-implantitis and the
gaps on the actual consequences of these
diseases and what they can lead to i.e. a heart
attack, stroke and even impotence.
• Finally, there are the gaps in ability where
prevention, motivation and care are
concerned.
A large number of people brush their teeth diligently every day and some even three times a
day, but caries, gingivitis and periodontitis often
still occur. Anyone over the age of 50 most likely
has a crown or one, two or even three implants
and an increased risk of having a heart attack.
These gaps need filling and not just with any old
filling material. They need the correct knowledge
and the correct skills and this is where
CURAPROX can help, so we can all enjoy lifelong
healthy gums, healthy teeth and healthy arteries.

iTOP
Individually trained oral prophylaxis –
the key to keeping your teeth for a lifetime
What prophylaxis are you currently offering
your patients and customers? Which prophylaxis would you like to offer and what do
patients and clients expect? With iTOP, you
have a prophylactic approach that works in a
new way, both in theory and in practice. Take
advantage of iTOP’s findings to motivate
patients and even yourself in the art of gentle
and atraumatic brushing. Your team and you
will be pleased with the results – and your
patients will notice too!
IMPORTANT FINDING
All mechanical activities have to be learned. No
matter if you are fitting implants or simply
using your orthodontic tweezers perfectly,
practice is needed and ideally a teacher too. A
good teacher will always be up-to-date and
have practised accordingly. iTOP teachers
undergo at least eight days of iTOP training
before becoming instructors. They also attend a
minimum of one official iTOP Recall session
every year.
THE RIGHT TECHNIQUE
iTOP’s goal is to keep teeth for a lifetime and
for you to pass on the necessary knowledge and
training individually tailored to your patients.
The criteria for choosing the right tools and
techniques are the key to efficient and
atraumatic prophylaxis. After iTOP, you’ll have
a whole new take on your oral hygiene.
WHAT IS MORE
Experience has shown that implementing iTOP
in a dental practice not only results in
additional and more satisfied patients, but also
has a positive effect on the working ambience.
The annual recall session backs up knowledge
and skills – and provides exciting input from
the practical side. Old habits are hard to break.
Inaccuracies creep in. Even professional sports
people still use trainers for years to perfect the
basics. To work with iTOP at a high standard
and maintain the level achieved, an annual
recall session is offered from the Advanced
Level on. iTOP users therefore not only
maintain their consistently high level but even
improve on it every year by going through the
theory again together with a mutual exchange
of experiences. Everyone needs a recall – not
just patients.

Jiri Sedelmayer, iTOP founder
Jiri Sedelmayer taught students at the
University of Hamburg for almost two decades
and then developed the iTOP method: aspiring
qualified dental professionals to learn what it
takes to brush one’s teeth. Theory, it’s true, but
that is not nearly enough: it takes practice,
practice and more practice. Participants soon
realise that brushing teeth is an art that
requires gentleness – and training.
Jiri Sedelmayer, why do people who brush
particularly energetically often have
bleeding gums, exposed necks of teeth and
even bad breath?
“That is what is so tragic about current
prophylaxis. Too often, too vigorous, with
coarse tools and many of the critical spots still
get missed. No brush will ever find its own way
to these critical areas. No brush is traumatic by
itself. It’s always up to users whether a
personal care product will lead to trauma or to
clean and healthy teeth and gums. Personal
touch-to-teach training by a specially trained
dental professional – by you – will help to put a
stop to ‘too much, too often, too hard, in the
wrong place’.”
What can I do for my patients personally?
“We offer training sessions to all dental
professionals interested in iTOP. These range
from the 1-day introductory training sessions
through to a 5-day teachers’ course for dental
professionals who would like to instruct other
dental professionals in successful oral care
based on iTOP. They find out why current
preventive care is not working and how it can
work and why patients taught by the iTOP
method are grateful for a lifetime.”

Sonic toothbrush
A Hydrosonic toothbrush can also clean right into
the gaps thanks to its hydrodynamic effect. Its
fine Curen® filaments ensure particularly gentle
cleaning of the sulcus. Interview with Prof. Dr.

Hydrosonic
Sonic toothbrushes are the most efficient and convenient aids to getting teeth
clean, yet considerable numbers of similar products are already on the market.
Once again, the bristles are the most important feature. Incredibly soft and
fine Curen® filaments are responsible for that decisive difference. While most of
the bristles used for commercially available sonic toothbrushes have a diameter
of 0.2 mm, the Curen® filaments on a Hydrosonic are only 0.152 mm in diameter.
This makes it easy to access particularly critical areas for an incredibly gentle
cleaning.

CURAPROX Hydrosonic: For a successful start
in a new era of oral
health
Cleaning teeth with a manual toothbrush is not
as easy as it might seem. Who knows the right
method? All too often, people scrub back and
forth with manual toothbrushes and with far
too much pressure. Damage from brushing is
the result. Using a CURAPROX Hydrosonic
ensures that teeth and gums are cleaned
perfectly – in an exceptionally gentle and
careful way.
ULTIMATE PREVENTION
The new CURAPROX Hydrosonic toothbrush is
designed for daily oral hygiene. The Curen®
bristles of the hydro-power brush head and 45°
ergonomics provide enhanced in-depth
cleaning – even in hidden crevices, along the
gum line, in any periodontal pockets and
between the teeth.

CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS
To ensure that teeth are properly cleaned from
the very start, a CURAPROX Hydrosonic is also
recommended for young teeth from the age of
four.
FOR IMPLANTS AND BRACES
Wearers of implants or braces, in particular,
benefit from the cleaning power of a
CURAPROX Hydrosonic. Anyone wearing an
implant or a brace needs to pay even greater
attention to oral hygiene. There are a large
number of additional crevices that need careful
cleaning. A CURAPROX Hydrosonic is an ideal
tool for this.

CS toothbrushes
Plaque’s toughest enemy is the gentleness of Curen® bristles: CS
toothbrushes really are incredibly gentle. The 5,460 Curen® filaments of
the CS 5460 ultra soft thus form an uncommonly dense and efficient
cleaning surface. While they are gentle on gums and teeth, Curen®
filaments are extremely hard on plaque. Anyone who tries a CS
toothbrush will never want to do without this brushing experience again.

Ultrafine Curen®
filaments make all the
difference
CURAPROX toothbrushes not only prevent
brushing damage, but also break up and
remove plaque perfectly.
Curen® bristles are stiffer than nylon and
remain just as stable in the mouth as when they
are dry. These properties make it possible to
produce toothbrushes with a large number of
ultrafine bristles.
CURAPROX CS toothbrushes break up and
remove plaque more thoroughly – thanks to the
extremely dense bristles.
Normal brushes with approx. 500-800 bristles
result in a large amount of plaque being left on
the teeth between the individual bristles.
The bristles on most toothbrushes are too hard
to clean the critical crevices without using
excessive pressure.
However, too much pressure inevitably leads to
the well-known devastating brushing damage
and is the main cause of exposed tooth necks.

Designed for children aged 5 and older and
based on our successful model for adults the
CS 5460 ultra soft. In fact, the CS smart lets
children happily brush their teeth really well.
The extra small brush head reaches and cleans
everywhere. Its octagonal handle ensures the
correct cleaning angle of 45 degrees. The brush
head has an incredible 7,600 Curen® filaments.
That's over two thousand more than the adult
toothbrush and they are even finer: only
0.08mm in diameter. This makes the CS smart
unbelievably gentle on the sulcus and soft for
the teeth and gums – oh yes and really nasty
and mean to plaque. No wonder our dental
professionals in the tests asked for a few

single 6mm
Prophylaxis professional Jiri Sedelmayer
developed this cleaning method, the solo
technique as it is known, and CURAPROX
designed a single-tuft brush for it: not just with
Curen® filaments, but with a beautifully
rounded bristle tuft. Why? Well, it means that
the filaments adapt wonderfully to the anatomy
of the gum line.
Developed for the solo
technique according to Jiri
Sedelmayer, it is the perfect
brush for expert users.
Trim length 6 mm.
Using the solo technique, trained patients clean
tooth by tooth as well as the gum line with
extreme precision.
Jiri Sedelmayer’s solo technique of teeth
cleaning is described in the periodontology
atlas (Color Atlas of Dental Medicine 1:
Periodontology; page 229).
Attention to detail: Thanks to the solo
technique and the CS 1006 Single, you can
clean carefully and perfectly around each
individual tooth – and take care of the sulcus in
the best possible way.
Toothbrushes
Ortho- and implant brushes
Fixed braces make high demands on care. Brackets and wires also need
perfect, regular cleaning. The CS 5460 ortho and the single-tuft brush, CS
1009 single, are ideal for the job. This single-tuft brush with its slightly
longer bristles also makes it easy to clean the sulcus around an implant.
17
One tuft,
two applications
A toothbrush with only one tuft? Yes, firstly,
since the difficult areas around brackets need
special cleaning. Secondly, the gum line around
implants needs particular care. The CS 1009
Single is ideal for this job with a single,
beautifully rounded bristle tuft to adapt
wonderfully to the contours of the gum line.

ATA
This toothbrush is quite simply a stroke of luck for people with tooth
cleaning damage: using pressure to brush the teeth is almost impossible.
Why? Its round handle has no thumb depression and motivates users to
grip with their fingers. This helps to keep pressure to a minimum and
makes an ATA the ideal learning toothbrush in the transition from a
CS 5460 ultra soft to a CS single: the technique of brushing each tooth
individually is trained just as much as using soft bristles without any
pressure.
Round handle without a depression

Reversed, particularly small head
Simply no more
pressure
ROUND HANDLE WITHOUT A THUMB
DEPRESSION
The strength of the thumb is what causes the
pressure when the toothbrush is held in a fist.
This is why an ATA has no thumb depression at
all (like almost all our toothbrushes, by the
way). Instead, its handle is round: the thumb
cannot grip anywhere and the user is motivated
to hold it with the fingers: pressure is reduced
to a minimum. This makes an ATA the ideal
learning toothbrush and an intermediate step
on the way to the solo technique with a CS 1006
single.
4,860 Curen® filaments, 0.1 mm in

Developed in cooperation with dental
specialists at the University of Berne
REVERSED, PARTICULARLY SMALL HEAD
Another little trick with great effect was to
make the head very small and even turn it
round. This is how an ATA motivates users to
clean precisely and carefully. This is because
the smaller the head, the more precise the
cleaning: tooth by tooth. And the more careful
the brush movements – the smaller the risk of
exerting too much pressure. This is the way to
learn the tooth-by-tooth cleaning method
almost automatically.

Toothpaste
Sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) is found in most
toothpastes. However, this foaming tenside can
promote the formation of mouth ulcers and
irritation of the oral mucosa. Enzycal toothpastes
are SLS-free. Moreover: the enzymes in Enzycal
support the saliva’s antibacterial effect.
Range: All Enzycal toothpastes contain the
lactoperoxidase system and are SLS-free |
Enzycal 1450 toothpaste is fresh tasting and
has a high proportion of sodium fluoride: 1,450
ppm | Enzycal 950 is very mild tasting with a
slightly reduced proportion of sodium fluoride:
950 ppm | Enzycal Zero contains neither
fluoride nor mint oils: perfect for use during
homeopathic treatment
22
Mild is now really strong: cleans without injuring
and strengthens with enzymes.
Everything that might possibly be harmful has been eliminated. Instead, Enzycal toothpastes
support the saliva’s protective function and contain no aggressive substances. The aggressive
foaming agent, sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) found in most toothpastes has been replaced by a
neutral one. Essential oils such as menthol have been reduced to a minimum and we have
eliminated them altogether in the Zero version. Even the RDA is low. In contrast, Enzycal has the
lactoperoxidase system with three enzymes that are already present in saliva – a miracle fluid in
oral hygiene that can even repair dental enamel. This saliva with its protective and repair functions
is further boosted by the lactoperoxidase system – which also prevents mouth dryness. Enzycal
thus ensures healthy teeth, gums and oral mucosa. It also tastes just as mild as it actually is – so
mild that it even helps combat mouth ulcers.

Toothpaste
No SLS: gentle on the
oral mucosa – and it
even reduces mouth
ulcers significantly
In contrast to almost all toothpastes, Enzycal
does not contain any sodium lauryl sulphate
(SLS). SLS is a highly active foaming agent used
primarily in household detergents, shampoo
and shower gels. In industrial applications, it is
used to clean garage floors or to degrease
machinery because of its aggressive properties.
SLS attacks the cells of the oral mucosa. This
leads to irritation and injuries proven to
promote painful mouth ulcers.
There is a risk of SLS entering the body through
the oral mucosa. Whether SLS is harmful to
health is still cause for discussion but has not
yet been proved. It is nevertheless surprising
that SLS is found in almost all toothpastes.
Enzycal is completely SLS-free. Your benefit:
significantly fewer ulcers. No controversial
substances that can even enter the body. In
short: Enzycal guarantees natural and
long-lasting dental care.
23
Enzycal enzymes boost
oral defence
Saliva’s bacteriostatic effect is an important
factor in the oral defence mechanism. Enzycal’s
unique enzyme combination boosts the effect
of fluorides. Another decisive benefit: these
enzymes stabilise and substantially strengthen
the antibacterial and remineralising functions
of saliva.
HOW DOES ENZYCAL RESTRICT PLAQUE
FORMATION AND BACTERIAL GROWTH?
The enzyme amyloglucosidase breaks down the
glucans (starches, e.g. in the plaque matrix). It
also boosts the effect of the enzyme lactoperoxidase in the saliva. As a reaction, hypothiocyanite ions are formed from thiocyanate ions and
hydrogen peroxide and these have superb
bacteriostatic properties.
The three enzymes in Enzycal give this
lactoperoxidase system additional support and
bacterial growth is naturally restricted.
ENZYME 1 = AMYLOGLUCOSIDASE
Changes polyglucans (plaque matrix) into
glucose
ENZYME 2 = GLUCOSEOXIDASE
Changes glucose in competition with the
plaque bacteria into gluconate, thereby
reducing the spread of bacteria. Gluconate
+ H 2O 2
ENZYME 3 = LACTOPEROXIDASE
with thiocyanate:
The H2O2 from the glucose transformation
reacts with thiocyanate to become hypothiocyanate, a naturally occurring antibacterial
substance in saliva.
The result: Bacterial growth is naturally
restricted and the natural balance of the oral
flora is strengthened – less plaque, less tartar,
improved oral health.

Why interdental
brushes?
Because otherwise one third of a tooth’s
surface does not get brushed. Toothbrushes
clean the outsides, insides and tops of the
teeth. But what about the sides of the teeth and
the gum line between the teeth? They cannot
be reached by toothbrushes alone.

Interdental brushes with bristles that are too
short fail to fill the space effectively and
therefore they have little or no effect. Gum
inflammation takes its course – and can turn

between the teeth completely, removing plaque
from all the critical niches and the gum line –

brush
1. Place the CPS prime at the point where the

angle to the centreline of the teeth and
push it in gently at the correct angle as far
as the centre of the teeth.

CPS strong & implant
Gaps are much wider than usual after
periodontal treatment and implants. CPS soft
implant brushes are designed to clean large
gaps gently: thanks to their finer and longer
bristles, they are well suited to this task.
The stronger CPS strong & implant versions
are ideal for the special requirements with
implants and bridges. They are particularly
effective for use with side pressure when
bent into a crescent shape.

These interdental brushes have a unique bristle
diameter that makes cleaning very safe and
effective after interventions. The bristles are
exceptionally soft and rounded. The Cural®

IAP probe and IAC chart
It’s easy to determine the correct interdental brush – and so fast and
safe: you measure the interdental space with the patented IAP probe. You
instruct and motivate your patients using the IAC chart. This system is
absolutely unique – and provides you and your patients with confidence.
Measuring is the basis for success: an
interdental brush will only simultaneously
clean the concave surfaces, the interdental
sulcus and the problem area below the contact
point if it fills the interdental space properly.
The System
Working systematically not only saves time but
is a reflection of total professionalism:
Colour coding: the colour still showing
is the colour – and thus the size – of
the corresponding CPS prime
interdental brush
1. You determine the size of your patient’s
interdental spaces using the IAP probe and
select the corresponding CRA prime
interdental brush for the handpiece.
Can be autoclaved
Click system: an IAP probe can be used
with all holders
2. A CRA prime is then fitted to a green
handpiece. Using slow rotation or none at
all, you clean the interdental spaces or
apply paste or CURASEPT ADS® 1%
periodontal gel.

proper implant care to your patients. The Implant kit contains
everything that is needed; plus a
customer brochure that explains
comprehensibly why the care
of an implant is so important
– and so easy with CURAPROX
products. Your patients will be
pleased with your work for a
long time and you will be, too.
System: all-in-one solution, perfect as
a “starter kit” to look after a new
implant.
Simple and effective: these tools clean
the many critical areas around

Dental floss
The loop technique
The front teeth, especially the lower ones, are often very close together.
So close that not even our CPS prime 06 interdental brush can be used. In
these cases, dental floss is perfect. Our range has a large selection of
dental floss for the teeth as well as for implants.
Take a piece of dental floss about 50 cm long,
bring the two ends together and knot it twice.
The aim is to form a loop that stretches fairly
closely over four fingers. If the loop is too
large, the dental floss is difficult to handle.

with this minimum distance, you can handle
the dental floss easily and safely.

Dental floss for implants and braces
An implant looks like a natural tooth. But people often forget that
implants require special care. In contrast, braces make maintenance
more difficult, and therefore they also need special attention. Floss can
be an excellent solution.

Optimised long-term CHX effect
Chlorhexidine has excellent antibacterial properties plus very high substantivity, which means
that it remains where it is supposed to work for a long time. This explains the long-term effect
of chlorhexidine. Nevertheless, it still makes sense to back up this long-term effect. This is why
there is a matching toothpaste that also contains chlorhexidine and with ADS® – and is free
from sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS): SLS affects how CHX works. SLS is a controversial foaming
agent found in almost all toothpastes. CURAPROX is entirely free of SLS.

Really clean and like
new for a long time
The patented denture brush eliminates
bacterial coatings and soiling. All areas are
cleaned perfectly using the two sets of bristles.
CURAPROX BDC products ensure that
prostheses are naturally rather than chemically
clean. Based on oxygen disinfection, conventional denture cleaners attack the plastic in
prostheses: the surface becomes porous, and
bacterial toxins and fungal spores easily gain a
hold. In contrast, CURAPROX BDC relies on
natural cleaning power: citric acid removes
disease-causing plaque reliably and is easy on
the plastic used for prostheses. The prosthesis
will remain like new for years.
An Omega spiral brush cleans
previously inaccessible crevices in
difficult inner surfaces.
Robust bristles clean the outer surface
of the dentures.
Easy to grip thanks to its ergonomic

the surface of dentures. Dentures look

Based on oxygen disinfection, conventional
denture cleaners often cause micro cracks in
prostheses and braces: bacteria and fungal
spores easily gain a hold. CURAPROX BDC
prevents these micro cracks.

Pacifier and teething ring
Pacifiers often lead to tooth misalignment and
lengthy corrective procedures are the result.
Misalignment can also affect breathing and concentration. A CURAPROX pacifier is designed to
avoid tooth misalignment.

their first toothbrush with a playful approach |
The pacifier helps avoid tooth misalignment
52
Medical pacifier
There is no better way to avoid subsequent complications such as a cross
bite, forced bite or a retrusive occlusion – unless you dispense with a
pacifier entirely. The special shape of a CURAPROX pacifier ensures that
you can allow your child to suck in safety.
Developed by orthodontist Dr. Herbert Pick.
The side wings prevent pressure on the roof of the mouth – and
thus hinder the development of a cross bite
Conventional pacifiers
often lead to misalignment and …
… deformation of the jaw: they exert strong
pressure on the palate. This pressure is even
reinforced by the vacuum created when
sucking. With a CURAPROX pacifier, the palate
develops free from pressure. Using a
CURAPROX pacifier means it is not possible to
create a vacuum.
Made of pure silicone, the shield sticks out from the lower jaw.
This supports the natural development of the lip muscles and
the lower jaw – avoiding a retrusive occlusion
The silicone used to make a CURAPROX pacifier is of particularly high quality. Super-soft – and with a particularly soft raised
edging to prevent injury
The air holes ensure ideal ventilation for the skin – thus
protecting against irritation and eczema
It is precisely this pressure that causes
malocclusions and jaw deformation.
Sucking that is free of any pressure: the best
prerequisite for the ideal and natural
development of jaw and teeth.
“My son was a keen pacifier user and
developed a cross bite. Incentive enough for me
to develop this pacifier.”

Useful helpers
It’s often the little things that are of the most
help. For example, it can be incredibly motivating
to know just how well you are brushing your
teeth. And something as mundane as a tongue
cleaner ensuring that the start of a conversation
continues with a smile. Whilst in a dental practice, models of teeth help patients to understand
and displays help to sell products.
Range: Tongue cleaners are often indispensable to combat bad breath | Disclosing tablets
reveal where extra brushing is needed | Dental
sticks and toothpicks? No problem! | Ortho wax
protects the oral mucosa | Retail sales: our
displays for perfect presentation

Tongue cleaners
Bad breath cannot be simply rinsed away with mouthwash or chewed
away with chewing gum. Only interdental care and a tongue cleaner will
help. Bacteria that cause bad breath lurk on the tongue, well hidden in
the tongue fissures. The tongue cleaner quickly eliminates them.

Bad breath comes from
bacterial coatings on the
tongue, in the tongue
fissures, as well in the
interdental spaces. The CTC
tongue cleaner is amazingly
successful. Its anatomically
correct shape reduces
nausea and its effect can be
seen and smelled. Success
from the first time you use it.
