Happy New Year On (and In!) the Water
We had it all - Sailors, Swimmers, and Revelers. We hosted the Oklahoma City-Norman Triathlon
Club Polar Bear Plunge and had great pot luck. There were four or five different black-eyed pea dishes, salads, desserts, scalloped potatoes, breads, candies, cookies…all were wonderful. There were at least 20 brave swimmers
taking the plunge. Jim Eller had a bonfire set up for a little warmth by the
beach. Surprisingly the swimmers did not make a beeline for the hot showers. The Sail Was Glorious. Wind 5 to 10 and temps in the 40’s made for
pleasant sailing. Shamrock, Great Pumpkin, Second Chance, Synchronicity,
and Dreadnought were a great fleet to start the New Year.
Thanks to everyone who brought food, helped set up, clean up, or brought a boat. Special
thanks to Jim for arranging the fete with the triathletes.

Heading Out for Adventures
From your Treasurer and Membership Secretary, David Craigie
Greetings, Thunder Sailors,
Joyce and I both hope that your Christmas was
happy and blessed and that your New Year will
be prosperous and happy, too.
Sadly, or not so sadly, I will not be at the next
two meetings. In January, we will be in Chicago
to attend our first ever Chicago Boat Show. It will
be an adventure with St Louis trailer/sailing
friends to hook a ride on the Amtrac to Chicago
for this event.
In February, we will head out to Florida for a
month. Two weeks will be spent on a different
kind of cruise for us; we will be on a Carnival
cruise out of Miami to see the Caribbean.
So while we will miss some club activities, we will have everyone in our thoughts. We are hoping
for great weather all around.

It is that time of year when we again ask you to show your support for TSC, in a financial way. It
has been slow going for membership renewals this year and I am hoping that if you are among
those who have yet to return yours that you will consider doing so as a sort of New Years resolution. We really need your support. Thanks!!!
If for some reason you have not received your renewal, or perhaps misplaced yours, please get
in touch with me.
For those who have received and promptly returned your renewals, Thank You very much!!
If you failed to renew your membership for 2015, there is still time. If you

Final Notes from the 2015 Rear Commodore
Wow…what a grand Holiday Potluck and party! Altus Boren and his musician assistants sounded wonderful, as did our entire group. Kids (and some of us bigger folk) enjoyed making gingerbread houses. As I said before, I have enjoyed my time serving TSC as Rear Commodore. It’s
been fun and educational in both a culinary and nautical sense. TSC comprises a great group of
talented folks, always willing to help. Thanks to so many folks who continue to help set up, provide food, clean up…
and the countless other jobs around and donations to the BoatHouse. For the Christmas Party, I’d like to especially
thank Rick Shaw for setting up tables, Doris Dewberry, Mary Ann Secrist, Sheryl Tiffany, and Joyce Craigie and daughter for decorating and filling in when my mind went blank. Thanks to Les and Kerry for grabbing the decorations from
the attic. I could go on with thanks…most all of you have made my time as Rear Commodore fun and productive at
some point. Welcome to Jason Pudlo, the 2016 Rear Commodore, and to the entire TSC Board for 2016! A few reminders below...
Lorrie Sylvester, 2015 Rear Commodore
January 16, 2016: First TSC Meeting of 2016!
Jan. 16 is also National Nothing Day,
and Appreciate a Dragon Day
…neither of which help with planning a meal…nevertheless….
Food (Potluck starts at 6:30 on the 16th): Think warm and toasty – it’s bound to get cold soon. Soups, casseroles, whatever warms
your tummy. The club will provide beverages. Alphabetically-oriented folks, see below for ideas.
a-g: main dish (soups/casseroles, etc.)
h-m: veggies (hot and cold)
n-s: appetizers/fruit
t-z: desserts/breads
Program: Shawn Lobree* will talk about RACING TACTICS
Happy New Year to you all!
Lorrie
* [Editor’s Note: We have this bit of information from our new Commodore, Keith Campbell: “Captain Lobree was a competitive
laser and, I believe, opti sailor. But I don’t have his Sailing C.V. My concept for the coming winter-spring months was to do racing rules and starting tactics during the off-season.”]

TSC's First Annual Leukemia Cup Regatta
Hello, TSC Members, James here, just giving you a heads-up, “God willing and the creeks don't rise,” we
are going to try again to host the First Annual Leukemia Cup Regatta! June 4th-5th 2016. This time we are
going to get an earlier start in the organizing, fund raising, and all that's involved in making this a Great Regatta and for a Great Cause! We are looking for volunteers to help with the race committee and with various
tasks needed to make this regatta happen.
Last year due to the flooding of the BoatHouse, the regatta was canceled but we were still able to hold
the silent auction and raised a little over a thousand dollars. We will have another auction this year and
sometime in March or April we want to have a “Kick-off Party” to get the ball rolling. We will have more information to share as we go so I plan to have an update in the Mainsheet in the months leading up to the
regatta.
So hold this date, June 4th-5th, in your calendar! It's going to be a great time! And you can call or email
me if you want to help with the regatta.
Cheers,
James Anderson

Lake Thunderbird TMDL
Compliance & Monitoring Plan
On Tuesday, October 27, 2015, the Norman City
Council endorsed the City of Norman’s Lake Thunderbird Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Compliance and Monitoring Plan, and directed city staff to
submit the Plan to the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ) by the prescribed deadline of November 10, 2015. When approved by
ODEQ, but no later than January 11, 2016, implementation of the Plan by the City of Norman will
begin.
In November 2013, the Oklahoma Department of
Environmental Quality (ODEQ) finalized a TMDL
study and report for Lake Thunderbird that determined the reduction of pollutants (total suspended
solids, chlorophyll-a, nitrogen and phosphorus) required in the lake to meet water quality standards.
The study results concluded that compliance and
monitoring plans should be developed to determine
best management practices designed to reduce pollutants in the next 20 years and show sustained progress toward reduction in daily amounts of total pollutants entering Lake Thunderbird.
