COMMITTEE REPORTS
BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE
CHAIR - James Dietz, Dietz Tractor
Seguin is bright and brilliant for the holiday season with the Beautification Committee's Light Up Seguin Contest in full swing. Stay tuned for the winners
to be announced at the Business "After Hours" Mixer on December 9 at First Commercial Bank and also in the January newsletter. The Beautification
Committee is looking for some individuals who will help this committee be a stronger force in our community - people who take pride in Seguin and realize
that it takes some work to keep our town beautiful. Please come to our next meeting at the Chamber office on Monday, January 24, 2005 at 5:15 p.m.
EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP COMMITTEE
CHAIR - Fonda Mathis, Texas Lutheran University
The education committee does not meet in November. Our next and last meeting for the year is December 1 , 2004. On agenda is a special presentation
by Seguin Youth Services, the discussion of setting up a meeting for the first of the year to discuss in-school banking, and a status update of the Family
Friendly Business Program.
AMBASSADORS COMMITTEE
CHAIR - Mary Newman, McNeal, Garner, Lippe
The Ambassadors met at the Seguin Silver Center for their November meeting. New member, Shawn Martinez with First Commercial Bank was welcomed
and Kendy Gravett was introduced to the committee as our new Chamber liaison. The ambassadors honored Ms. Patsy Heckmann with a diamond necklace for her years of service to this committee. During November the ambassadors held ribbon cuttings for Eagle Rentals and Behavioral Therapy Clinic.
They also assisted with the membership drive held at Wells Fargo Bank. Be sure and look for the ambassadors on the Winter Wonderland float in the
Christmas Parade.
LEADERSHIP SEGUIN CLASS
Coordinators - Syndee Bundick, Westerholm-Koehler and Tammy Thompson, Alamo Industrial
November was a journey of Seguin's History & Tourism for the Leadership Class. The day began with riding the "True Women Tour" stopping at the home
of Mrs. Virginia Woods, then visiting the Seguin Conservation Society, Sebastopol, Moore House, Kingsbury Vintage Aviation Museum, and Wilson Pottery.
Thank yous go out to Sherry Nefford and Dottsy Dwyer, facilitators for the day, Mike Heckmann of All Occasions Catering for providing lunch, and to the
destinations for your time and hospitality. December will focus on Health and Communication high points of Seguin.
The Leadership Class is also busy planning for their community project which will involve some revitalization of the Women's Shelter. Watch the newsletter
and listen to KWED for upcoming donation opportunities as your support is vital to the success of the class project!
GOVERNMENTAL CONCERNS COMMITTEE
CHAIR - Ken Reininger, Bettersworth & Associates
The committee is monitoring the Regional Water Plan and any possible effects on Guadalupe County. The County reported that it had found a way to
trade "maintenance value" for their contribution of state-right-of-way for State Highway 130. Additional transportation reports from the County Judge
Schraub and TxDot / Seguin Engineer Rick Castaneda were given. The committee is making a recommendation to the Board of Directors to advocate a
segregated position on air quality and water planning issues. The committee will host the Quarterly Communication Council Meeting on December 7.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
CHAIR - Mark Wallock
The EDC is working hard on the following issues: New Years Eve Fundraiser/Party - The sub-committee has met several times and is working hard on making this project
a success. Mary Newman is in charge of ticket sales. They are available at the Chamber, Cascades, KWED, The Gazette, and Gift and Gourmet.
The EDC is putting together a task force to aid the SEDC in economic development. This Marketing Team will help assist in recruiting potential new industry to Seguin.
We will identify these community leaders at our next meeting, ask them to participate, and begin the training with funds raised at the New Years fundraiser, after the first
of the year.
The committee's chair and city economic development director have had one meeting with representatives from the New Braunfels and San Marcos Chamber to discuss
forming a "Central Texas Business Triangle." The purpose is to jointly promote the Seguin, New Braunfels, San Marcos area as a place to locate your manufacturing and/
or distribution center. The Central Texas Technology Center will be used as the focal point for this joint marketing effort for job training and upgrading. By pooling our
money we can create an excellent website for the area, linked all the citys, chamber, and EDC websites to attract businesses that are looking to re-locate from all over the
U. S. and the world. We can also afford trade show booths and other advertising by pooling our money to promote the area for quality of life, education, recreation, trans-
