perfect, but if will be fun to write and read. This month’s theme are the Voyageurs
& the Fur Trade and Halloween.
By Mrs. Borgfjord (Borg-fee-ord)

Beaver Facts
Together beaver colonies
create dams of wood and
mud to provide stable
dams. The build these in
deep water in order to protect against predators such
as; wolves, coyotes, bears
or eagles and also so they
can float food and building
materials to their homes.
The beaver has a good
sense of hearing smell and
touch. It has poor eyesight
but does have a set of
transparent eyelids, which
allow them to see under
water. Beavers can live up
to 24 years in the wild.

What is a Voyageur?
Voyageur is a French word meaning traveller.
They were young.
They were fur traders.
They traveled in canoes.
Our school is named after Pierre Gaultier de
Varennes, sieur de La Verendrye.
Our school teams are called the Voyageurs.
The Voyageurs used a sash, called a ceinture
fléchée, as a tool to help carry packs of flour.
It helped prevent back injuries or hernias and it
was a part of there national costume. Everyone
wore it.

VIDEO GAME REVIEW
Pierre's Pearls
of Wisdom
Today I am going to do a
gaming review of FIFA 15. First
I am going to rate it. I rate it 5
out of 5 stars. I like this game
because it is really easy to
play. It also has a little bit of
graphic. Over all it’s a very
good game to play. The best
player to get is Messi.

Dear Pierre,
I am in grade 5 at La
Verendrye School. I really
like to go out on the
playground, it gives me a
break from school work. My
only problem is there is
another student who keeps
hitting me. They seem to
think it’s funny but I don’t!
Sincerely,
A. Concerned-Student
Dear A. Concerned-Student
This is an age-old
problem. It even
happened in the
one-room school
houses of the early fur traders.
What you need to do is ask
the student to stop. Say, “I
need you to stop hitting me, it
makes me feel
uncomfortable.” If that
doesn’t work then you need to
tell an adult on duty. Hope
this helps. Write back if it
doesn’t.

Halloween Tips from Google
By Jocelyne
Simple Fake Blood

Clear Corn Syrup

Red Food Coloring
Milk - Optional
However much fake blood is how much corn syrup you'll need.
Pour it into a bowl and mix in some red food coloring. Add
some blue if you like. Adding a small amount of milk will make
the blood appear darker and thicker.
Fake Wounds Recipe
Petroleum jelly - Just a dab
Tissue or toilet paper squares
Cocoa powder
Two to four drops of red food coloring
Directions: Place a dab of petroleum jelly in the small bowl.
Add in a few drops of food coloring. Stir with the toothpick.
Add a small amount of the powdered cocoa to darken the
blood to your desired shade. Separate the tissue so you have
only one layer. Tear the sheet of tissue to about two by three
inches and place where your fake wound will be .Smear the
petroleum jelly mix onto the tissue and mold your gory
wound. Don't
place it flat,
make it appear
realistic and
jagged by
raising the
outer edges.
Beginning with
the outer
edges, pat in
the cocoa to darken the edges. If desired, place a little in the
center of the wound. Now you can go and gross-out your
friends!
