The Danish Armed Forces have several procurement projects on schedule for the next
years. The largest three programmes comprise a new fighter for the Danish Air Force, new
armoured personnel carriers (APC) and the
exchange of the aging truck fleet of the Army.
Bidding is still proceeding on these three programmes.

District Court of Bonn – HRB 18658
Identification number DE 811 223 089
The selection process has been ongoing since
almost 10 years with several setbacks during
the definition and bidding phase. The remaining aircrafts are Eurofighter Typhoon, F-18
Super Hornet by Boeing and F35 Lightning II
by Lockheed Martin which are to replace the
30 year old F16.
By choosing the Eurofighter Denmark could
profit from sharing training ot even maintenance with one of the other users Germany,
Italy, Spain or UK. Maybe even a cheaper acquisition due to reduced quantities in the original sales of the consortium members could
be possible.
But Denmark is also a Tier-3 partner and has
already spent €120 million for the participation in the JSF development and demonstration
phase in 2002-2012. The F35 full production
start is expected for 2018, while the Eurofighter has is already in use and combat proven.
The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is also a combat-proven strike fighter with built-in versatility. The Super Hornet‘s suite of integrated
and networked systems provides enhanced
interoperability, total force support for the
combatant commander and for the troops on
the ground. The maiden flight was in 1995,
but full-rate production began after the merger of McDonnell Douglas and Boeing in 1997.
It entered service with the United States Navy
in 1999. The
Super Hornet
is in use with
the United
States Navy
and the Royal
Australian Air
Force.
A decision on the new fighter jet is said to be
made this summer.
Armoured personnel carriers
The volume of this programme is between
€400 and 670 million. Denmark aims to replace the M113 and Piranhas, which have
been with the Danish Army for over 40 years,
by new armoured personnel carriers (APC). A
total of 206 to 450 might be ordered.
The bids of BAE System Hägglunds, Nexter,
General Dynamics European Land Systems
(GDELS) and Flensburger Fahrzeugbau (FFG)
have been shortlisted.
Military trucks
The volume of the project is about €270 million. These new all terrain trucks, including
armour protection, and regular trucks shall
become the backbone of logistics and support.
The planned volumes are 400 - 500 all terrain
and 300 - 400 regular trucks, with the all terrain version possibly having armour protection.

Russian Helicopters increases sales
to Asia-Pacific region
(df) Russian Helicopters announced that
the company continues to supply helicopters across the Asia-Pacific region, including India. Over the past three years 189
commercial and military aircraft were delivered, which includes Rosoboronexport
contracts. In 2014 deliveries increased by
11% on 2012, and today more than 1,400
Russian-built helicopters operate in the
region.
“Over the last year alone the fleet of Russian helicopters in the Asia-Pacific region
has grown by 40 aircraft, from 1,366 in
2013 to 1,406 in 2014,” said Russian Heli-

l’armement) to build the three CERES satellites, which will provide France with its
first operational SIGINT capability.
The CERES (Capacité de Renseignement
Electromagnétique Spatiale or Space Signal Intelligence Capacity) system comprises three closely positioned satellites
that are designed to detect and locate
ground signals, along with ground control and user ground segments. CERES is

copters CEO Alexander Mikheev. “We plan
to further strengthen our position in the
region not just by supplying aircraft, but
also by expanding our after-sales service
programme for the Russian-built helicopters in the region.”
Russian Helicopters gained in autumn
2014 the right to supply components and
spare parts for military helicopters to foreign partners, as well as to provide maintenance, repair and overhaul services and
form joint ventures directly with foreign
companies. All this means the company can
provide maintenance services significantly
faster and develop advanced high-tech after-sales support systems more efficiently.
The most popular model in the Asia-Pacific region is the Mi-8/17 series. As of 2014
Russian Helicopters had produced about
12,000 of these aircraft, a world record for
twin-engine helicopters. Today Russianbuilt helicopters have a presence in more
than 100 countries.

signed on the quite new Dutch multi-function support ship Karel Doorman by the

due to enter service towards 2020. Airbus
Defence and Space has been entrusted
with the space segment comprising the
three satellites, while Thales is responsible for the payload and the user ground
segment. The two manufacturers are the
joint prime contractors for the entire system. In addition, Thales Alenia Space acts
as a subcontractor to Airbus Defence and
Space in supplying the platform.
Intelligence is one of four priorities identified by the French white paper. The 2014
- 2019 Military Planning Law has translated this priority into programmes and
funding, which include signals intelligence
and one of its operational uses, the CERES
programme.

of the Leclerc tank modernization contract. This order constitutes the third step
launched by the French Ministry of Defence under the SCORPION programme
intended to modernise the French Army‘s
contact forces. Valued at approximately
€330 million, the contract provides the delivery of 200 „Modernized Leclerc“ tanks
and 18 „Modernized DCL“ recovery vehicles from 2020.
The planned modernization work will enable the Leclerc to make the best use of
its fire power and mobility within future

The pinpoint precision is achieved by incorporating state of the art mil-spec gyros,
high speed servos, and advanced circuitry
into a precision machined two axis turret. MEMS gyros send out digital attitude
data to the high speed servo motors via
a custom engineered and programmed
circuit board. This allows stabilization cor-
rection solutions to be made thousands of
times per second.

the aircraft’s avionic systems as well as
fully renovate the cabin. This was a large
scale project under challenging timescales.
RUAG Aviation installed a new Honeywell
Ovation cabin management system, their
first undertaking of Ovation Select on a
Falcon 900. In addition the upgrade also included fitment of electronic dimming window shades from Vision Systems. This was
the first such installation on any aircraft
worldwide. Further the aircraft upgrade
included installation of Airshow 4000 and
Satcom 7000 systems as well as a fully renovated cabin interior including new seating and LED lighting. RUAG Aviation partnered with renowned OEM’s and solution
providers including Honeywell, Vision Systems, AIP, ACH and EMTEQ in delivering

was also the case in 2013 and 2012. As the
company expected, sales dropped to a low
of €2.4 billion in 2014, reflecting the budgetary cuts that MBDA’s domestic countries
have been carrying out over several years.
Moving on from 2015, this figure should see
a significant rise as an effect of the exceptio-

year end 2014, the order book now represents more than four years of activity at current levels and will allow MBDA to return to
a condition of growth in the mid-term.
