No. 08
Dear Parents,
As Term 1 draws to a close it is time to reflect on
a very busy and successful start to 2015. At
assembly this week I congratulated the students on
their great start to the year. It was a very colourful
audience and lovely to see so many children
celebrating their heritage and wearing their
costumes so proudly. Special congratulations to our
student Leadership Team who have so capably
managed many events this term.
HEADLICE
Just a reminder to all parents that children do not
need to take a whole day off school when being
treated for headlice. As soon as they have been
treated they are able to return to school.
Remember “Every Day Counts” and every day away from school
interrupts a child’s learning.
SCHOOL REVIEW
Jan White, our School Reviewer will be holding some
focus groups with students this week. These
students will be randomly selected from all age
groups. Their feedback will be fed into our review.

children are at school, on time every day.
NO SMOKING OUTSIDE SCHOOLS
Legislation has been passed that now makes it illegal for anyone to smoke within 4 metres of school
entrances. Signs have been ordered to be placed at our school entrances.
TRAFFIC ISSUES IN ROBERTS AVE
Thank you to those parents who are helping reduce the traffic congestion by parking away from the
school, or encouraging their children to ride bikes or walk to school. We still have some incidences of
parents parking in the bus zone and have had both police and local traffic inspectors patrolling the area to
remind people of the rules. We have also contacted the Shire to see if there is any chance of any works to
reduce the congestion issues. Safety of our students is a top priority and we appreciate everyone’s efforts
to help us with this
SAUSAGE SIZZLE AT THE FESTIVAL
A huge thank you to those parents (and Karen M) who worked hard to ensure the success of our
fundraising sausage sizzle which was held in Victory Park last Saturday. Thank you to those who donated
home-made sauce, and to those workers who came along and helped out. The $680.00 raised will go
towards our fundraising priorities of supporting the Building Upgrade and the Stephanie Alexander
Kitchen Garden Program.

donated to a local charity. Also the office has personal items that have been handed in throughout the
term. These may be claimed upon identification.
There is a pair of sunglasses from Kosmac and Clemens among the items at the office.
LODDON MALLEE REGIONAL SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Congratulations to Tjalurri R on reaching the State finals of the Swimming Championships, by winning
the 11 Year Old Boys 50m Breaststroke Final in Swan Hill on Wednesday 18 th March.
PERMISSION NOTES
During this term we have sent home a number of permission notes for various excursions and
activities. We are finding that we are chasing up notes that have not been returned to school in a timely
manner. This causes stress to the child that they may not be able to go on an excursion and causes a lot
of extra work for office staff. We kindly ask that when you receive notes from the school that they be
returned as soon as practicable to prevent any extra angst to anyone. Next term there will be permission
forms sent home for:
 Leadership excursion (selected students) - May 1st
 Mt Alexander Chess Challenge (selected students) May 20th
 Grade 2 Camp – May 21st – 22nd
 Grade 3/4 Camp – May 27th – 29th
If your child will be involved in any of these activities can you please be on the lookout for these forms.
Thank you.

CALLING ALL MUSICIANS
I’m on the hunt for a few people to help out with our ANZAC Day Ceremony to be held at school on Friday
the 24th of April. We are planning to perform two songs:
 Flame Trees- Sarah Blasko version
 Whenever it Snows- Tex, Don and Charlie
It would be great if we could get a cellist who can improvise for these songs. A group of students and staff
will sing, provide ukulele and guitar.
We are also after someone to play bugle or trumpet for the Last Post.
If you have any other ideas, or instruments that you think would work on these songs, I would love to hear
from you.
Jackie Haines.
