Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Use of Social Media
I am happy to share with you that many of you visit our website regularly and make use of the information provided
therein; on an average of 200 visit the parish website. In fact, I had people calling us by Friday to remind us that the regular
features had not been posted. As a rule, on normal working days, we must submit the bulletin by Tuesday and you can expect to read the following Sunday bulletin by previous Friday evening or latest the Saturday morning. But this week and the
next, the schedule is different. We have to submit them in advance because of the holidays. Maria Byrnes is the editor and
Fr. Sylvester is on top of it. They try to make the bulletin as attractive as possible and I thank them for their time and interest.
Flocknotes
A word about the Flocknotes: it is the fastest and most convenient way to communicate among ourselves. The information in our database is very important to us as they are to you. Under no circumstance shall we compromise them. It is our
sacred duty to safeguard them. Last week, we used Flocknotes to notify you of certain events that took place. We are certain
that it worked.
Of course, the website carries all the information that you need to be aware of during these days of festivities including the times of Festive Masses, confessions and other activities. The website also carries the pictures of events that take
place in and around the parish. It saves you time: instead of calling to find out the time of Masses etc. you can visit
www.olhcparish.org and all the news is at your fingertips.
Sponsors and Parents
Every year, we face the dilemma of explaining to parents who can be SPONSORS for the Confirmation of their
children. A sponsor is a person that supports and aids the candidate by being a faith filled role model. It is not so much an
honor or a privilege, but a huge responsibility of following that person all life- long. I would like to call a sponsor a
“defender of faith” one who is able to defend his own faith by example, word and action and be bold enough to instill the
same in the candidate all throughout his/her life.
Then what is the role of the parents? Parents are the first teachers of faith to their children; the immediate role models of faith and virtue. The Church requires parents to assert their rightful place and not take an auxiliary role as that of a
sponsor. Hence, neither father nor mother can be a sponsor. Further discussion of this shall continue in the coming weeks.
Thank you
It is an honor and a privilege to serve God and His people and we must do it willingly. I am blessed to say that many of
our parishioners are a true example of this and I wish to thank all who volunteered to help in any way during this Christmas Season . Last but not least, I want to wish you and your families a very Blessed Christmas filled with joyful moments, happiness and
peace.
Merry Christmas! Fr. Frank

The Rite of Christian Initiation is the process by which adults
become members of the Roman Catholic Church. The formation process is directed at those adults who have missed a
Sacrament along the way or those from other faiths that have a
calling to the Roman Catholic Faith. The culmination of the
formation process takes place at the Easter Vigil where the rites
of the Sacraments are administered.

ADVENT PRAYER
Father, in the wilderness of the Jordan you
sent a messenger to prepare people’s hearts
for the coming of your Son. Help me to hear
His words and repent of my sins, so that I may
clearly see the way to walk, the truth to speak,
and the life to live for Him,
our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
