The Olympian Swim Club’s Learn to Swim Program uses the expertise of the “I Can Swim”
program developed by Swimming Canada. This program offers your child the opportunity to focus
on swimming technique and skills as a primary objective.
The “I Can Swim” program is designed for children (5 years and older) with minimal swimming
experience. The program introduces the basics of all four competitive strokes at the earliest levels to
allow each swimmer to acquire the skills necessary to move into the more advanced levels.
Swimmers learn to swim in three stages:
Stage 1: Water Orientation - (non-swimmers)
This stage involves learning to be comfortable in the water
and learning introductory aspects of mobility in the water.
Stage 2: Skill Development - (swimmers who show
comfort in the water)
This stage focuses on the basic movements and orientation
ability needed for swimming the four major strokes.
Stage 3: Skill Improvement - (swimmers who can swim
25m non-stop)
This stage improves all four strokes and increases endurance.
When this stage is completed participants have learned to
swim and can move on to the competitive program.
Did you know........
Statistics show that the leading cause of accidental
death in children under the age of 14 is drowning.
The real tragedy is that it is preventable.
Children who learn water safety skills also benefit
from overall cognitive, physical and emotional
development.
75% of the world is covered in water. Can your
child swim?

The Olympian Swim Club runs a competitive program which is athlete centered, parent supported
and coach delivered by professional swim coaches. Our developmental groups are dedicated to
pursuing a strong aerobic background with a multi-stroke emphasis.
Please call our OSC office at 780-455-8457 for more information.
Points of Entry for Competitive Groups:
Junior Olympian Way (JOW)
JOW bridges the gap between the “I Can Swim” program and the competitive program.
Swimmers must be 10 and under at the start of the season. Swimmers are introduced to low
level, fun competitions and skill development.
Olympian Way (OW)
This group is for children ages 8 to 11 throughout the season. Swimmers continue to develop
all four competitive strokes, skills, starts and turns with an emphasis on skill development for
racing.
Junior Age Group (JAG)
Swimmers in the JAG group are aged 10 to 13 at some point throughout the season. Swimmers
in JAG will develop a mastery of basic technical skill elements and understand tactics and
strategies for racing and training. They will continue to race on all four competitive strokes with
a balance of speed and endurance events.
Youth Development (YD)
I Can Swim Program

Aspiring young teenagers have a program that is dedicated to supporting the specific training
requirements of swimmers 13 to 16 years old. Athletes compete locally, regionally and
provincially. The emphasis of the group is continued mastery of skill elements and a balance of
speed and endurance in all strokes and events.
X Group (X)
Swimmers must be at least 15 years old and have some competitive background. Training in
this group will be in concert with goals and aspirations of the individuals. The goal of this
group is to continue to train in a fun and competitive environment. Competition is encouraged
but not required.
Performance Based Groups
Placement in these groups is based on previous performance and specific standards being met.
These groups work on perfecting training habits and the advancement of technical and tactical
skills.

Aikido helps kids on the school ground. Confidence, as well
as a strong sense of one’s body and personal space can often
prevent problems before they occur. Learning that there are
alternatives, mentally, verbally and physically, to fighting
empowers the child instead of locking them into reactionary
behavior. Even in a physical encounter, the children learn there
is a difference between fighting and defending one’s self. This
awareness and understanding leads to real, personal growth.

Who We Are
Phoenix Taekwon-do is a not for profit martial arts club that is dedicated to teaching the art of Taekwon-do.
Through martial arts training, our students develop self confidence, physical fitness, discipline, self defence
and focus. The Taekwon-do training that we do consists of powerful kicking techniques and devastating hand
techniques as well as potentially lifesaving self defence techniques.

Shadow Warriors , Ages 5 - 7 years old
This 45 minute class teaches Taekwon-do basics in a fun and active way. This entry level class allows the
younger student to absorb the Taekwon-do knowledge at an easier pace. They learn respect, courtesy and self
discipline along with the exciting moves of Taekwon-do. Shadow Warriors are also taught basic kids self
defence moves and street smarts that teach about safety issues such as Stranger Danger. There are multiple
classes that may suit any busy schedule.
Phoenix Taekwon-do has top quality instruction from Master Craig Stanley, who has almost 30 years
experience, as well other senior instructors both male and female. We have a top rated facility and equipment
and multiple training hours that can fit into any busy schedule. Phoenix Taekwon-do is for kids, teens and adults;
for those who are training for fitness and recreation but also for those who are looking for competition. Come
try a class today!
