This is the first time that these two major scientific events will be held at the same time, in the same location and with a coordinated programme, enabling you to choose from a wide selection of different talks. It is the hope of the organising committee that you will appreciate this opportunity to bridge the gap between paper physics and paper chemistry, and will be able to benefit from this in the future. Stockholm is a wonderful city, with its combination of green parks and the sea in the middle of the city. The weather in June can be either fantastic or slightly on the cold and rainy side. The organizing committee is unable to guarantee excellent weather, but we will cross our fingers and hope for the best. Stockholm has a lot to offer, with fine restaurants, beautiful museums and an old town that is something of a tourist trap but very pleasant to walk through, where you can have a glass of wine or a cup of coffee in one of the many small bars along Västerlånggatan. Visit the Stockholm Visitors Board website if you are looking for something special. The conference will be held at Stockholm’s Clarion Hotel Sign, located right in the city centre. We are thrilled that so many of you have chosen to come to the 8th International Paper and Coating Chemistry Symposium and International Paper Physics Conference, and we sincerely hope that this will be a rewarding event for all of you. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact any of the organizing committee members and we will be more than happy to assist you. Welcome once again, and let us help each other to make this a great conference. Remember that you are the most important factor when it comes to creating a great meeting – we have only assisted in organizing it. High quality cuisine will be provided by Markus Aujalay, one of Sweden’s top chefs. Thanks to SCA, the opera trio Divine Opera will entertain us during dinner. Akzo Nobel Pulp and Performance Chemicals (formerly Eka Chemicals) will be hosting the trip to Winterviken, the first event of this unique evening. A boat trip from the City Hall to Winterviken will provide the perfect opportunity to see Stockholm’s “beauty on the water” from Lake Mälaren. It takes around 10-15 minutes to walk from Clarion Hotel Sign to the boats, which are situated close to Stockholm City Hall. Please be on time. The boat (M/S Victoria) will depart at 17:30 sharp. The Arlanda Express train is the fastest way into town from Stockholm-Arlanda Airport. It only takes 20 minutes from the airport to the Central Station in Stockholm (5 minutes’ walk from Clarion Hotel Sign). There are two stations at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport, Arlanda Södra (South) with access to Terminals 2, 3 and 4, and Arlanda Norra (north) under Terminal 5. A regular return ticket by Arlanda Express is 490 SEK, yet seasonal or week-end discounts are available at times. The Flygbussarna airport buses run from all Stockholm airports and offer a direct connection to Cityterminalen in downtown Stockholm (10 minutes’ walk from Clarion Hotel Sign). Buses from Stockholm Arlanda Airport run continuously whereas those to and from Bromma, Skavsta and Västerås airports connect with arrival and departure times. A regular return ticket from Arlanda Airport is 198 SEK. The major taxi companies have fixed prices of between SEK 450500 for trips to and from Arlanda. See also the “Taxi” section below. 26 Allergies and dietary restrictions All suppliers of food and refreshments to the conference have been informed about allergies and dietary restrictions communicated upon registration. Please contact the conference registration desk if you have more questions and concern. Badges Conference badges shall be worn at all times during the scientific sessions. Clarion Hotel Sign Stockholm’s largest hotel is located in the heart of Stockholm city adjacent to the Central Station and Arlanda Express as well as near all the best of Stockholm’s favourite spots. The well-known Swedish architect, Gert Wingårdh, put the idea down on paper and created the spectacular building. Dominated by granite and glass, it leans over the square, reflecting the green park. The interior was provided by Scandinavian design icons, such as Arne Jacobsen, Bruno Mathsson and Alvar Aalto. Wander around the hotel and discover world famous furniture, such as Egg, Wave and Lily, classic pieces that have been around for up to 50 years and will stay the same for another 50, at least. The address to Clarion Hotel Sign is Östra Järnvägsgatan 35, 101 26 Stockholm. The closest underground station, T-centralen (all underground lines and com- muter trains), is located at a leisurely 5 minutes’ walk along Vasagatan. Dress code The general dress code for the International Paper Physics Conference and for the International Paper and Coating Chemistry Symposium is informal. It is suggested that lounge suits or the equivalent be worn at the conference dinner on June 13th. Internet Wireless internet access through Telia Homerun is available free of charge to all conference delegates. Please contact the conference registration desk and ask for your internet access pass. Public transportation Stockholm Public Transport, SL, is responsible for buses, underground trains, commuter trains, trams and certain ferry lines in Greater Stockholm. The underground is the easiest way to get around town. The city is divided into three zones, and zone tickets are good for several trips within one hour. Tickets can be purchased at SL Centers, underground platform barriers, newsagent kiosks or via SMS. It is not possible to pay cash for tickets on board buses in Stockholm but some bus stops have ticket machines that accept both coins and cards. Itis also possible to buy 1, 3, or 7-day cards, which allow free travel in all zones during the validity period. ation Another alternative is the Stockholm Card, which allows free travel and free entry to 80 museums and attractions in the city.
