You never

where
you’ll find yourself
Welcome to Columbia County...
Y
ou might find yourself soaring in a hot air balloon or
marveling at the Persian-style mansion of Frederic
Church. Maybe dancing the night away or grabbing some
world-class street food between antique shops. You’ll fill
your days and nights with memory-making for as long as
you choose to stay. You might find yourself taste-testing
artisanal cheeses or loading up on fresh-picked fruit,
wandering through fields of sculpture, or following in the
footsteps of Edna St. Vincent Millay on the Poetry Trail.
Easy to reach, harder to tear yourself away from—you’ll
find yourself discovering worlds within worlds of
pleasure, serenity, and entertainment. From world-class
music and theater performances and art galleries to
lovingly restored historic farmhouses, from vineyards
and wineries to outdoor adventure geared to the whole
family, you’ll fill your days and nights with memorymaking for as long as you choose to stay.
Rolling hills dotted with great little towns beckon
explorers to find their own favorites. Historic sites and
museums bring the past to vibrant life. We have lodging
and dining to suit every preference and pocketbook.
You never know where you’ll find yourself here—but
you’ll find yourself here, again and again.

WINTER WALK ON WARREN STREET
PERFORM COLUMBIA
Holiday revelers ride in carriages
drawn by teams of horses up and
down Warren Street, Hudson’s
main thoroughfare. Carolers
dressed in Victorian costumes
sing songs of the season. Musical
ensembles and dancers perform in
the many shops that fill the street.
It’s a scene evocative of days gone
by. But that scene becomes a
modern day reality on the evening
of the First Saturday of December
from 5-8pm as the Hudson Opera
House Center for the Arts presents
Winter Walk on Warren Street.

Trip Ideas
} Imagining History.
HUDSON, OLANA, CLERMONT
This driving or biking journey on Rt 9G is highlighted by orchards, farms and
fantastic vistas of the Catskill Mountains.
Hudson is known for its unique and varied architecture, antique dealers and
boutique shops. The “Main Street USA” ambiance of this city harkens back
to a simpler time and way of life. (Note: In Hudson, Rt 9G connects with
3rd Street.) Farther south, you’ll encounter the crown jewel of the Hudson
Valley: Frederic Church’s Olana. With the look of a Persian palace, this magnificent mansion overflows with Victorian elegance, fabulous furnishings,
and breathtaking paintings by the most famous landscapist of the Hudson
River School.
Olana is situated four miles south of Hudson atop a huge hill affording
some of the Hudson River Valley’s most spectacular scenery. Treat yourself
to a guided tour of the villa, or a leisurely picnic or a stroll down Olana’s
lovely trails, yielding unforgettable views of the Catskill Mountains.
Drink in the elegance of a golden age and the history of a courageous
few. At the Clermont State Historic Site (off Rt 9G in Clermont), you’ll tour
the grand 500-acre Hudson River estate, former home to seven generations of the distinguished Livingston family—including its patriarch, Robert
Livingston. Take in the stately beauty of family heirlooms... and admire the
formal gardens and the lush views of the Hudson as you enjoy a picnic on
the grounds along the river.

TACONIC STATE PARK & HILLSDALE, 30-Minute Tour
Start by taking the Taconic State Parkway to the Rt 23 exit. Head east
toward Hillsdale, about three-and-a-half miles on Rt 23 until you see a
“National Beauty Award Highway 1969” sign and make a right on to
County Rt 11A, which will soon become County Rt 11. At County Rt 27, turn
left and continue until you reach County Rt 7. Make a right on to Rt 7 and
drive about a mile to County Rt 7A, then turn left and continue into Copake.
Bear left at the village circle and stay on Rt 7A until you reach Rt 22.* A left
on to Rt 22 will take you to Rt 23 in Hillsdale, and another left on to Rt 23
will point you west back toward the Parkway.
*If you’re looking for a nice picnic area and/or campgrounds, turn right
off Rt 22 on to Rt 344 and enter the Taconic State Park. For a scenic
hike, follow signs leading to parking for Bash Bish Falls. The mile-long
trail leads to the towering falls and runs along the Bash Bish Brook.
