MR. SERIK
KONAKBAYEV –
PAVLODAR’S ASBC EVENT
WAS A GREAT SUCCESS
The President of the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) and Vice-President of the International Boxing
Association (AIBA) Mr. Serik Konakbayev arrived to his home city to Pavlodar visiting ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in the first competition day. He led the Press Conference before
the first competition day and negotiated with the key persons of the LOC during the event and presented medals for the prize winners of the Welterweight class (69 kg) in the last competition day.
“The ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing
Championships finished and we could all
recognize it was a great success for the
participants, boxers and the spectators. Boxing
is changing and our youth athletes adopted the
newly requiring skills and showed their best in the
important competition in Pavlodar.
President of the Pavlodar Regional Boxing
Federation Mr. Shukhrat Danbay and Executive
Director of the Pavlodar Regional Boxing
Federation Mr. Azamat Makazhanov worked
hard with their team to host the ASBC Asian
Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in the
highest possible level.
The volunteers were also helpful and supported
the Pavlodar Regional Boxing Federation
successfully in the recent ten days. The crowd was
amazing in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth
Boxing Championships in Pavlodar and great
to see people understand boxing and want to
see great fights. Following our previous editions
Pavlodar raised the level of the organizations into
an upgraded level.
I would like to say big thank you for the Syrian
Supervisor of the ASBC Asian Confederation
Youth Boxing Championships Mr. Mohamed
Kamel Shbib and all of the ITOs and R&Js who
worked hard during the competition. I would
like to congratulate all of the ten young gold
medallists in the ASBC Asian Confederation
Youth Boxing Championships. Japan won its first

Confederation Youth Boxing Championships which
shows for me the country is on the best way for
the success in their home Olympics in Tokyo in
2020.
I am sure all of the boxers who took part here
raised their experiences in the international level
and to be continued their career in the sport. I
trust about our future and hoping our youngsters
can get medals in the AIBA Youth World Boxing
Championships in St. Petersburg, Russia after the
Rio 2016 Olympic Games in November. The Syrian
team competed in the ASBC Asian Confederation
Youth Boxing Championships which was an
amazing exemplar for all of the countries to
their great commitment to boxing,” said Mr. Serik
Konakbayev after the finals in Pavlodar.

Mr. Serik Konakbayev is grateful to the Pavlodar Regional

The Supervisor of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth
Boxing Championships Mr. Mohamed Kamel Shbib arrived

also for a World Championships here in Pavlodar while the
hotel is only in walking distance from the hall,” said Mr. Shbib
of Syria in the Press Conference.
KAZAKHSTAN
IS THE MOST SUCCESSFUL
IN THE ASBC ASIAN CONFEDERATION
YOUTH BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS
The amazing competitions of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships finished
in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan where the tournament and its organization were in the highest level. Ten
new winners have been crowned in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in
Pavlodar and among them six gold medals remained in Kazakhstan, three went to Uzbekistan while
Japan also could get a title in the event.
April, 2016 7
Together we are power
Light Flyweight
class (49 kg):
Kazakhstan’s Ermek Serikov Youth Memorial
Tournament winner Vasilii Samchuk
eliminated India’s AIBA Junior World Boxing
Championships bronze medallist Sachin
Siwach Singh in the quarter-final and
Kyrgyzstan’s National Elite Championships
silver medallist Syrgak Dzhanseitov in the
semi-final. His gold medal opponent was
Uzbekistan’s Pavlyukov Youth Memorial
Tournament winner Otabek Kholmatov who
was taller than his Kazakh rival. The Uzbek
boxer found the best fighting distance
quickly while Samchuk attacked from
the first seconds with great enthusiasm.
Samchuk had great stamina until the final
bell to win that difficult contest in Pavlodar.
Flyweight class
(52 kg):
Korea’s 17-year-old Lee Hee Seop proved
superb performance in the previous
rounds against tough athletes in Pavlodar
in spite of the fact he has been competing
in his first international competition. The
Korean southpaw attacked from the first
rounds against Japan’s Hayato Tsutsumi
who eliminated Kazakhstan’s star Aidos
Arapov in the semi-final. The Japanese
boxer tried to use closer fighting distance
in their contest and he was successful with
hooks and uppercuts while the Korean had
quicker attacks. Tsutsumi worked better in
the final round which was the difference
between them therefore Japan could
get a gold medal in the championships
in Pavlodar. Tsutsumi won Japan’s first
ever gold medal in the history of the
ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing
Championships.
Bantamweight
class (56 kg):
Kazakhstan’s Serik Temirzhanov did revenge
to his previous loss to Uzbekistan’s Danas
Pozniakas Youth Memorial Tournament
winner Shunkor Abdurasulov in the semifinal of the championships in Pavlodar and
focused to his gold medal bout against
Kyrgyzstan’s Nursultan Mamataly who is a
new talent and a big surprise in the event.
The Kyrgyz boxer eliminated Japan’s Taiga
Imanaga in the semi-final but his opponent
in the final was a stronger opponent for
Mamataly. Pavlodar-based Temirzhanov
used the middle of the ring to control
the bout in the front of the home crowd.
The referee counted the Kyrgyz boxer in
the third round which demonstrated the
dominance of the host nation boxer who
claimed the gold medal in his home city.
Lightweight
class (60 kg):
India’s Youth National Champion Ankush
Dahiya triumphed over Kazakhstan’s
Kazbek Sapenov in the semi-final of the
category but his next opponent for the
gold medal was Uzbekistan’s AIBA Junior
World Champion Bilolbek Mirzarakhimov
who eliminated Turkmenistan’s
Muhammet Berdibayev in a narrow
contest in the last four. Uzbekistan’s 17year-old top talent felt the rhythm in the
first round well enough and used different
tactic what was successful for him in
the recent bouts. Mirzarakhimov was in
different level than his Indian rival today
and secured a further gold medal in his
career.
Ashish Kulhriya was named as Best
Boxer of the Indian Youth National
Championships and tried to be quicker
against Kazakhstan’s Danas Pozniakas
Youth Tournament silver medallist Ayatulla
Takizhanov who trains in the Pavlodar
region. The taller Kazakh boxer worked
from longer distance in the final against
India’s best youth competitor and his
southpaw stance was uncomfortable for
the South Asian talent.
The Kazakh boxer was better today
than his Indian opponent who could not
repeat his previous performance in the
day of the finals and suffered a loss to
Takizhanov.
Light
Welterweight
class (64 kg):
8
www.boxingasia.org
Welterweight
class (69 kg):
Uzbekistan’s Agalarov Youth Memorial
Tournament winner Ulugbek Sobirov
eliminated Japan’s Zen Kuroyanagi in the
semi-final and prepared well to his final
against Kazakhstan’s Oleg Matveichuk
who eliminated Kyrgyzstan’s Aybek
Akylbek Uulu in the last four. Sobirov
defeated Kazakhstan’s top athlete
Sadreddin Akhmedov in Azerbaijan a few
month ago but needed to do his very
best to control the first round against
Matveichuk. The rhythm of their contest
was raised in the second three minutes
when the Kazakh hope returned to the
bout with tough punches. The final verdict
was split decision to Ulugbek Sobirov who
claimed Uzbekistan’s second gold medal
in Pavlodar.
Middleweight
class (75 kg):
Kazakhstan’s Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth
Memorial Tournament winner Aman
Kazankapov had a close victory over
Uzbekistan’s Shokhrukhbek Rustamov in
the semi-final of the championships. His
gold medal opponent was Turkmenistan’s
Heydar Aliyev Junior Cup silver
medallist Nuryagdy Nuryagdyyev who
demonstrated his great technique against
China’s Zhang Jilei in the second semifinal. The Turkmen boxer tried to work
from longer distance and he was a hard
target for Kazankapov in the gold medal
bout. Their bout was a tactical one in
Pavlodar which delivered the first success
for Kazakhstan in the day of the finals due
the great final round of the host nation’s
talent.
Light
Heavyweight
class (81 kg):
Uzbekistan’s Danas Pozniakas Youth
Tournament winner Sanjar Tursunov
eliminated Turkmenistan’s strong Mustapa
Charyyev by unanimous decision in the
quarter-final and he did not give any
chance to China’s Xinjiang-based Maimaiti
Maierdan in the semi-final. After these
successes he was the favourite against
India’s Reyal Puri in the gold medal bout of
the category in Pavlodar. The Uzbek boxer
was patient, awaited for the best attacking
moments and he used up Puri’s faults in
the second round successfully. Tursunov
had great footwork in the final round
which delivered for him a gold medal in
Pavlodar.
Heavyweight
class (91 kg):
Uzbekistan’s Agalarov Youth Memorial
Tournament winner Shokhruz Rakhimov
arrived to Pavlodar as the main gold medal
contender of the Heavyweight class (91 kg).
The Uzbek southpaw eliminated Korea’s
Lee Yun Taek in the semi-final and after that
tough contest he met with Kazakhstan's
Dmitriy Akhtsiger. The Kostanay-based host
nation boxer tried to do his very best but
the Uzbek southpaw had stronger punches
in the first round of their finals. Akhtsiger
returned with a strong uppercut in the
second and his efforts were enough to beat
his Uzbek rival in Pavlodar.
Super
Heavyweight
class (+91 kg):
Uzbekistan’s Danas Pozniakas Youth
Tournament winner Abdulla Khudorganov
fought for the gold medal with Kazakhstan’s
Dildabekov Prizes Junior Tournament
winner Nurdaulet Ulanuly who eliminated
India’s Manjeet Singh in the semi-final.
The youngest team member of the
Kazakh youth team had lethal right hand
therefore Khudorganov did not do any risky
movements in the first round. The Uzbek
boxer turned up the heat in the second
three minutes when several of his jabs
reached the target but Ulanuly adopted
that level and won their spectacular contest
which delivered Kazakhstan’s sixth gold
medal in Pavlodar.

INTERVIEW
WITH
MR.
MOHAMED
KAMEL
SHBIB
The Supervisor of the competition Mr. Mohamed Kamel Shbib shared the most important
information, the AIBA rules and the news of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing
Championships in the Technical Meeting, he attended in the Official Drawing and also in
the Press Conference in Pavlodar.
Mr. Mohamed Kamel Shbib arrived to Pavlodar from Atyrau where he was the Supervisor
of the Issatai Taimanov & Makhambet Utemisov Memorial Tournament which event was
launched a few years ago. The former President of the Syrian Boxing Federation was interviewed by the Asian Boxing Confederation in Pavlodar.
“The ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing
Championships is a well-organized competition.
Kazakhstan has got great experiences in boxing and
hosting events therefore we expected the highest level
10

of organization from the Central Asian boxing power. I
have arrived from the Issatai Taimanov & Makhambet
Utemisov Memorial Tournament from Atyrau to
Pavlodar three days before the start of the ASBC Asian
Confederation Youth Boxing Championships. We
have discussed everything with the Pavlodar Regional
Boxing Federation and Mr. Azamat Makazhanov and
his team worked hard to arrange all of the key points
in the competition. To be honest the venue is enough
good for a future AIBA World Boxing Championships
as well and I hope Pavlodar will be hosting a global
event in the near future. In the hall we would be able
to place two rings which is a requirement in an AIBA
competition.
The hotel is only walking distance to the venue which
is very important for all participants while the warmup areas are also world class. The local organizers have
been solving all problems quickly so we are all satisfied
with their hard work and hoping Pavlodar is planning
to host more events in the future. The level of the first
day was an average in the ASBC Asian Confederation
Youth Boxing Championships but the second and
the third day delivered really high level of boxing in
Pavlodar. This strong youth competition is getting even
more excited in the road to the gold medal bouts.
ASBC hosted the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior
Boxing Championships in Tashkent last year and many
of those medallists are here in Pavlodar while we have
got medallists also from the last two editions of the
AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships therefore the
level of our youth boxers is amazing. Chinese Taipei
had great development in boxing which is showing
our continent’s background and potential,” said Mr.
Mohamed Kamel Shbib in Pavlodar.

MR.
SHUKHRAT
DANBAY –
WE
DREAMED
ABOUT
AN ASIAN
EVENT IN
PAVLODAR
MR.
SERIK
SAPIYEV –
Mr. Shukhrat Danbay is the President of the Pavlodar Regional Boxing Federation who is following all
competition day at the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships from the Astana Ice
Palace. Mr. Danbay and his staff hosted many national and international events in Kazakhstan in the
recent years but they decided to raise the level and now their dream came true, Pavlodar is the host
city of a continental event where two boxers are representing also the region.
Could you please tell me the
reasons of the big boxing
development of the Pavlodar
region?
– This is an interesting question. I
was boxing when I was young, and
also competed in kickboxing while
following my career I worked as a
boxing coach. The result of my work
is 2 World Kickboxing Champions:
Aleksandr Khusainov (63 kg) and
Aidar Dosmalganov (75kg). After I was
appointed as a President of the Pavlodar
Regional Boxing Federation I began a
system here in our work. I think we are
developing so fast, as I know boxing
from the inside. When I started working
as a President boxing was in very low
level in the Pavlodar region. The last
successful boxer from Pavlodar region
was Mr. Azamat Makazhanov, who is now
the Executive Director of the Pavlodar
Regional Boxing Federation.
What does it mean for you hosting
the ASBC Asian Confederation
Youth Boxing Championships in
Pavlodar?
– Any international event within the
region has a huge meaning for Pavlodar.
12
www.boxingasia.org
Now this ASBC Asian Confederation
Youth Boxing Championships is a superb
possibility for the development of
boxing in Pavlodar region. Spectators,
fans and young athletes of my region
have the opportunity to see the new
level of boxing; they can learn different
techniques and tactics from other
countries. I think the athletes develop
from competition to competition.
The ASBC Asian Confederation Youth
Boxing Championships is a great step
in developing boxers and the sport as a
whole in this region.
Did you dream to host an Asian
event some years ago? If yes, how
does it feel it has realized?
– Yes, sure, I always dreamed of hosting
an Asian Championships here in Pavlodar
and now my dream came true. We have
got a real holiday spirit, the whole region
is very proud of our work holding this
continental Championship.
What were the main issues of the
organization?
– We did not have any serious problems
hosting this event as we have got
international tournaments for the Prizes
of Mr. Serik Konakbayev and we have
very good organizing team. This is
the reason why we did not have any
issues in the preparation. We only gave
enough financial background to the Local
Organizing Committee and you can see
the results now.
What is your opinion about the
level of the championships?
– The level of the Asian youth athletes
is very high. I have been at the AIBA
World Boxing Championships in Milan,
Italy in 2009 and in comparison with
that championship this event is very
interesting. No simple bouts, athletes
are very encouraged; we have saw very
spectacular fights in Pavlodar.
What do you expect from
Kazakhstan and especially the two
boxers who came from your region:
Serik Temirzhanov and Ayatulla
Takizhanov?
– The whole region, everyone from
Pavlodar city, which means 350, 000
people, hoping both will be crowned in
the event.
PAVLODAR
DELIVERED
EXCELLENT
CHAMPIONSHIPS
FOR THE ASIAN
YOUTH BOXERS
Kazakhstan’s last Olympic Games winner in boxing Serik Sapiyev
was also visiting the last days of the ASBC Asian Confederation
Youth Boxing Championships in Pavlodar. He was involved to
the national team in 2004 and claimed his first AIBA World Boxing Championships title in 2005 which he repeated in 2007. The
London 2012 Olympic Games winner boxer retired three and half
years ago but working in the sport, supporting Kazakhstan’s future
hopes.
Mr. Sapiyev first of all,
congratulations to your great
boxing career. As a former boxer
what is your opinion about the
level of the bouts in the ASBC
Asian Confederation Youth Boxing
Championships?
– Thank you very much for your
kind words. I think the level of the
championships is excellent, not only in
the ring but out of the bouts as well. I did
not compete as youth or previously as we
mentioned junior in an Asian event but
this is always a great step for a boxer to
fight in a continental competition.
Could you please let us know your
thoughts about the Kazakh youth
boxers? Did you see big talents in
the squad or from other nations?
– Kazakhstan has got great traditions in
boxing and I hope these young talents
will show the their bests in the Tokyo
2020 Olympic Games. Serik Temirzhanov
dominated his final today and I think his
future could be great in the upcoming
years.
Yes, I saw some great talents in the
ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing
Championships especially from the Uzbek
and from the Kazakh team but Japan,
India and Korea also developed well.
Kazakhstan has got already
11 qualified boxers for the Rio
2016 Olympic Games. What do
you expect from the team in the
August’s event in Brazil?
– Yes, we have got now 11 quota places
for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and
I am expecting four medals from the
team in Brazil. Bakhtiyar Artayev won the
Welterweight class (69 kg) in 2004, Bakhyt
Sarsekbayev in 2008 and me in 2012 so I
hope Daniyar Yeleussinov will be our next
hero in my former category.
How does is feel the Training
Centre in Karagandy was named
after you and the Serik Sapiyev
Prizes Youth Tournament is a huge
competition in Kazakhstan?
– The leaders of my region decided to
name the sport complex after me short
following my Olympic gold medal in
London.
The Serik Sapiyev Prizes Youth
Tournament was the main selection
competition for our 17-18 year-old boxers
to this year’s competition and I am proud
of that fact to see winners and runner-ups
of my event here in Pavlodar.
Could you please tell us more
details about your current WSB
work in boxing?
– I am trying to do my best as Manager
of the Astana Arlans Kazakhstan WSB
franchise.
We are in the semi-finals and will be
competing with British Lionhearts in
London in the end of this month. We
defeated Venezuela Caciques 9-1 in the
Quarter-finals but some of the boxers did
not deliver their top form so our job will
be difficult in the WSB Semi-final.
April, 2016 13
Together we are power
Kazakhstan’s national boxing icon Mr. Yermakhan Ibraimov is visiting the ASBC Asian Confederation
Youth Boxing Championships in Pavlodar who is an official of the Kazakh youth team during the competition. He claimed gold medal in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and bronze in the Atlanta 1996
Olympic Games while was silver medallist at the 1997 AIBA World Boxing Championships in Budapest.
The Asian Boxing Confederation interviewed Mr. Yermakhan Ibraimov during the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Pavlodar.
Mr. Ibraimov first of all
congratulations to your great
boxing career. What is the
difference in boxing between 2000
when you won the gold medal in
the Sydney Olympic Games and in
our present days?
– Boxing is getting better from year to
year. There is a big progress in boxing,
athletes improved their techniques and
punches. If we compare the today’s
boxing with the sport in 2000, there is
difference of course. Boxing have got
different psychology, skills and tactics.
For example, in 1980 when Mr. Serik
Konakbayev was boxing in Moscow it
was different, after that in 2000 we were
fighting differently and nowadays boxers
found new ways. The boxing became
more aggressive, with more techniques
and tactics. I want to point out that in
Sydney there was another rule, we had
to box 4 rounds each in 2 minutes. The
judgment became more professional
since our age. Referees give to athletes
more freedom, maximum what they can
do is to announce break or set apart the
athletes from clinching. That is why I can
tell you that boxing today is much better,
athletes are better trained.
INTERVIEW WITH
MR. YERMAKHAN IBRAIMOV
14
www.boxingasia.org
What is your opinion about
Kazakhstan's participation and
results in the international
competitions?
– In my opinion Kazakhstan is very
active in all AIBA programs. We always
support its programs and beginnings:
AOB, WSB and APB. Kazakhstan is one
of leading countries of the world with
great background. Our last achievements
are 4 gold medals in the AIBA World
Boxing Championships in 2013 and 6
gold medals in the 2015 ASBC Asian
Confederation Boxing Championships in
Bangkok. I think these are good results. In
2015 we won only two silver medals in the
Doha AIBA World Boxing Championships,
but we did not lay down our arms,
because boxers never lay down their
arms. We are in the way of preparing to
the Olympic Games, and 2013 and 2015
AIBA World Boxing Championships were
only preparations for Rio. Kazakhstan
has to win minimum one old, silver and
bronze total three medals. It all depends
on our athletes as we have got all
conditions for that.
What is Kazakhstan's biggest
strength in boxing in your opinion?
– I think the first thing is the school
of boxing and tradition of boxing. Mr.
Shokhr Boltekuly begins to develop
boxing in Kazakhstan 83 years ago. He
has established the first Kazakh school
of boxing; he could build the right of our
combat sport. Kazakhstan had always
great fighters, fighting is in our nature and
genetics. Our strength is our traditional
way of boxing and every region has its
own traditional school of boxing and that
is why we have strong competitions within
Kazakhstan.
How do you feel yourself in the
ASBC Asian Confederation Youth
Boxing Championships? Please let
me know your thoughts about the
level of the championships and the
environment?
– I am an official representative
of Kazakhstan team at this ASBC
Asian Confederation Youth Boxing
Championships. I am the Director of
the Olympic Training Center and I am
responsible for the young generation
boxers of Kazakhstan (for junior and
youth). I am responsible also for their
trainings, financing, results, etc. We have
got honored coaches such as Mr. Galym
Kenzhebayev, Mr. Kairat Satzhanov, Mr.
Zhanibek Kulniyazov and mr. Arkadiy
Topayev. They are experienced coaches, I
trust of them and I always support them
and they delivered for us such good
results in the recent three years.
As you can see the ASBC Asian
Confederation Youth Boxing
Championships is organized very well. All
conditions are arranged for the athletes
and I think it is the best organized Asian
Championships ever. I want to thank first
of all the President of Pavlodar Regional
Boxing Federation, Mr. Shukhrat Danbay,
also to the akim of Pavlodar region,
who supported this event. Also special
thanks to Mr. Azamat Makazhanov,
to Mr. Eleussyz Duysekov and many
other people who organized this great
championship.
Some of the Kazakh youth boxers
were also successful juniors with
you. Are you following their
performance?
– Sure, I am following their performance.
All the present members of the National
Team trained in junior and youth teams
at Olympic Training Center. For example,
London 2012 Olympic Games silver
medallist Adilbek Niyazymbetov trained
there too. The last example is Abylaykhan
Zhussupov, who changed from youth to
elite men recently and could successfully
perform at AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic
Qualification Event. He is one of our hopes
for a medal at the Rio 2016 Olympic
Games.
Who is your favourite Kazakh
youth boxer in Pavlodar?
– There are 10 participants from
Kazakhstan at this ASBC Asian
Confederation Youth Boxing
Championships. All of them are the
best in their weight categories and
winners of our national and international
competitions. But I would like to point
out Aidos Arapov, team captain, he
is a leader, he won the tournament in
Germany and several other nations.
Kazbek Sapenov from Atyrau is a new
great story for us, his boxing surprised
me. Oleg Matviechuk is a winner of
international tournament in Anapa so
we are expecting great results from him.
All of our boxers are very strong and
we are performing very good at this
championships. I would like to say that
we need to develop boxing everywhere. I
wish all countries to develop their boxing.
Good luck to everyone! Thank you!

ATHLETE OF THE MONTH -
SERIK TEMIRZHANOV
Syria is competing in the ASBC
Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Pavlodar,
Kazakhstan where their commitment to boxing is a good exemplar for all of the countries not
only in Asia but in the world.
Their youth team contains now
three boxers who travelled more
than 4,000 km to compete in
the ASBC Asian Confederation
Youth Boxing Championships in
Pavlodar in spite of the serious
political crisis which is affecting
the country since 2011.
The Asian Boxing Confederation’s second Facebook voting for the
Athlete of the Month delivered a success to Kazakhstan’s AIBA
Junior World Boxing Championships bronze medallist 18-year-old
Serik Temirzhanov who claimed gold medal in the ASBC Asian
Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Pavlodar and his
final was the biggest difference between the two boxers.
SYRIA’S COMMITMENT TO BOXING
IS A GOOD EXEMPLAR
“Our current political and economic
situation is really bad in Syria as we
have got Civil War at home since many
years. We are trying to prepare to the
competitions with our best knowledge
but we could not take place all of our
competitions and training sessions in the
country during the war.
The training is some sometimes hard
not only in Damascus but mainly in the
other regions of the country especially in
Aleppo, in Hama and in Latakia. Despite
of these situations we hosted the Junior
National Championships this year and
last year we had competitions for the

elite, youth and junior age groups as well.
We have been there in the AIBA Asian &
Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event
in Qian’an and we were near to get an
Olympic quote for the Rio 2016 Olympic
Games. Our team took part also in the
Issatai Taimanov & Makhambet Utemisov
Memorial Tournament in Atyrau last
week where we achieved two gold, one
silver and one bronze medal and all of
our four boxers could stand in the podium
during the medal ceremonies.
Three boxers from our youth team is
here in Pavlodar with one coach and
one R&J who is AIBA 2-stars. We are
not expecting big results or medals in
the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth
Boxing Championships in Pavlodar,
our goal is to show Syria is still on the
boxing map and fight in the highest
level of boxing competitions. We are
trying to be an active national federation
in the Asian Boxing Confederation in
spite of the crisis in our country and
thanks for all supports from Pavlodar,”
said Syrian coach Mr. Mohamed Alqazaq
and the Syrian Supervisor of the ASBC
Asian Confederation Youth Boxing
Championships in Pavlodar Mr. Mohamed
Kamel Shbib.
Serik Temirzhanov was born on May 24 in
1998 and began his boxing career in his
home city in Pavlodar at the age of 11. He
started his trainings with Mr. Andrei Gensh
seven years ago and all of staff recognized
his talent to the sport. Temirzhanov delivered
his first big success at the 2012 Suleymenov
Junior Tournament in Almaty where he
defeated one of his main local rival Abylay
Saylaubekov.
Temirzhanov won his first national
title among the juniors in 2013 when
he competed at the 44 kg weight class
and defeated all of his four rivals in the
competition. He was too smart to all of his
opponents and had a clear victory over
Alimzhan Beskempir in the final which meant
the head coach of the junior national team
of Kazakhstan involved him to the squad and
short after his title he could get silver in the
Aleksey Yukov Junior Memorial Tournament
in Gomel, Belarus which was his first event
out of his country.
Following his participation at the Heydar
Aliyev Junior Cup in Baku he received the
right to box for Kazakhstan at the 2013 AIBA
Junior World Boxing Championships in Kiev,
Ukraine. He moved up to the Light Flyweight
class (48 kg) and after two great triumphs
over Korea's Han Young Hun and Russia's
Vladimir Strygin he was defeated by US
hope Daniel Gonzales in the semi-final which
delivered for him a valuable bronze in Kiev.
Temirzhanov competed in junior age
group also in 2014 and firstly claimed silver
at the Yakov Vysotskiy Junior Memorial
Tournament in Yagodnoye, Russia and
secondly bronze at the Heydar Aliyev Junior
Cup in Baku where he lost to only Hungary's
talented Istvan Szaka in the semi-final
stage of the competition. Later in the year
Temirzhanov won the Zhetysu Youth Cup in
Taldykorgan and won bronze at the Abbas
Agalarov Youth Cup in Baku.
The Kazakh talent was not enough
successful in their Youth National
Championships in the beginning of 2015
therefore he decided to raise his physical
skills at the Bantamweight class (56 kg). After
his great job in the trainings Mr. Galymbek
Kenzhebayev the head coach of the Kazakh
youth squad decided to take him to the
Ahmet Comert Youth Tournament in Turkey
where his skills were enough to get silver.
Temirzhanov was excellent in the Serik
Sapiyev Prizes Youth Tournament in
Karagandy in this January where he defeated
Berik Dzhedibayev, Mukhamet Al-Makhmut
and Sanatali Toltayev among his main rivals.
This gold medal meant for him a place in the
youth national squad of Kazakhstan and their
head coach involved him once again in the
international competitions.
He lost his preliminary bout to Uzbekistan's
Shunkor Abdurasulov in the Danas Pozniakas
Youth Memorial Tournament in Vilnius,
Lithuania but in spite of this bout he could
take part in the ASBC Asian Confederation
Youth Boxing Championships where he
fought in the front of the home crowd in
Pavlodar.
After two great triumphs Kazakhstan’s Serik
Temirzhanov did revenge to his previous
loss to Uzbekistan’s Danas Pozniakas Youth
Memorial Tournament winner Shunkor
Abdurasulov in the semi-final of the
ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing
Championships in Pavlodar and focused to
his gold medal bout against Kyrgyzstan’s
Nursultan Mamataly who is a new talent and
a big surprise in the event.
The Kyrgyz boxer eliminated Japan’s
ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing
Championships silver medallist Taiga
Imanaga in the semi-final but his opponent
in the final was a stronger opponent for
Mamataly. Pavlodar-based Temirzhanov
used the middle of the ring to control
the bout in the front of the home crowd.
The referee counted the Kyrgyz boxer in
the third round which demonstrated the
dominance of the host nation boxer who
claimed the gold medal in his home city
and received the ASBC Athlete of the Month
Award.

THE UZBEK TIGERS DEFEATED
THE RUSSIAN BOXING TEAM 6-4 AND
ADVANCED TO THE WSB SEMI-FINALS
The Uzbek Tigers proved amazing performance in the second competition day of the Quarter-finals
in Ulyanovsk and defeated the Russian Boxing Team 3-2 once again and advanced to the Semi-finals
in their first season in the World Series of Boxing. The total result between the two strong franchises
was 6-4 to the Uzbek Tigers.
The Uzbek Tigers ranked No.2 in Group D
and had to meet in the Play-off with the
Russian Boxing Team which was perfect in
the Group C winning all of their contests
in the Regular Season. In spite of the
Russian Boxing Team's performance in the
Group Stage the Uzbek Tigers became
the lone franchise in Season VI which
could defeat their rivals in two away
matches and they can now prepare their
Semi-final against Cuba Domadores.
After Hasanboy Dusmatov's, Murodjon
Akhmadaliev's and Anvar Turapov's first
day success the winner of the AIBA Asian
& Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event
Shakhobiddin Zoirov continued the
winning path for the Uzbek Tigers in the
second day of the Quarter-finals. Zoirov,
who claimed silver in the Incheon 2014
Asian Games, proved top performance
against Russian Boxing Team's Viacheslav
Tashkarakov and won all of the rounds in
their Flyweight class (52 kg) contest.
Uzbek Tigers' Elnur Abduraimov
claimed bronze medal in the Doha 2015
AIBA World Boxing Championships
and qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic
Games but the Uzbek Boxing Federation
decided to send their APB boxer Hurshid
Tojibaev to Brazil. Abduraimov won't be
there in the Olympics but he has been
fighting in the World Series of Boxing with
great motivation. The 21-year-old Uzbek
Lightweight class (60 kg) boxer dominated
the first round against Russia's Dzhamal
Badrutdinov and knocked down his
opponent with his amazing combination
which finished their bout very quickly.
Russian Boxing Team's Albert Karibian
won all of his contests in the World
Series of Boxing and he delivered strong
performance in the first part of the bout
against Shakhram Giyasov which was
enough for him to keep the victory on
home soil. Giyasov's performance and
stamina was great in the fourth and
fifth rounds but he could not turn back
the Welterweight class (69 kg) bout.
Russian Boxing Team's next triumph was
achieved by Imam Khataev who is new in
the franchise and defeated former ASBC
Asian Champion Shukhrat Abdullaev
in the Light Heavyweight class (81 kg)
bout which was another narrow fight in
the second match between the two top
franchises.
After nine contests the Uzbek Tigers
led 5-4 against the Russian Boxing Team
but the final result depended on the
performance of their Super Heavyweight
class (+91 kg) boxers. Mirzohidjon
Abdullaev competed in the last two
editions of the Asian Games and used all
of his experiences to find the weak points
of his taller Russian opponent. Abdullaev
was strong in mind and his fighting spirit
delivered for the anticipated sixth success
for the Uzbek Tigers which meant they
advanced to the Semi-finals.

in Season III and V but in spite of the final 9-1
result their boxers had to do their very best to beat
Venezuela Caciques in Shymkent. Astana Arlans
Kazakhstan lost only one match in Season VI in the
Group D to the Uzbek Tigers but since then their
boxers proved they are fighting for the next WSB
title.
Yerzhan Zhomart, Nurbol Kalzhanov, Samat
Bashenov and Abilkhan Amankul were their
winners in the first day of the Quarter-final against
Venezuela Caciques while all of their five boxers
who were action in the second match left the ring
with triumphs. The first victory of the Astana Arlans
Kazakhstan was delivered by Azamat Issakulov at
the Flyweight class (52 kg) who was able to beat
Venezuela Caciques' current AMBC American
Confederation Champion 19-year-old Yoel Finol in
a hectic contest.
Following Issakulov's close victory Zakir Safiullin
proved he is in different level than Venezuela
Caciques' AIBA American Olympic Qualification
Event winner Luis Cabrera in the second bout of
the day.
ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing
Championships silver medallist Safiullin, who
returned to the squad after a health problem of his
baby daughter, fought with great stamina and his
patient style with effective attacks were too much
for the 21-year-old Venezuelan boxer. Safiullin's
triumph meant Astana Arlans Kazakhstan advanced
to the WSB Semi-finals after seven bouts.
Kazakh National Championships bronze medallist
Bekzod Khalmetov replaced WSB Boxer of Week
11 Aslanbek Shymbergenov in the squad and
exceeded the previous expectations in Shymkent.
The 24-year-old Welterweight class (69 kg) worked
well against a world class opponent 29-year-old
Gabriel Maestre who claimed bronze at the 2013
AIBA World Boxing Championships and gold
at the Toronto 2015 Panamerican Games. Their
contest was a close one but Khalmetov's freshness
delivered for him a success in Shymkent.
Two-time National Champion Arman Rysbek
is a strong Light Heavyweight class (81 kg) boxer
who had a great second and third round against
Venezuela Caciques' Nalek Korbaj in Shymkent.
The Venezuelan boxer defeated Russian Boxing
Team's Gamzat Gazaliev in the last round of the
Group Stage and he was also a competitive rival
for Rysbek who had to concentrate until the final
bell but finally his hand was raised.
Strandja Memorial Tournament winner
Kamshybek Kunkabayev is No.2 just behind their
star Super Heavyweight class (+91 kg) boxer Ivan
Dychko. He is still in developing stage but proved
even better and better performance in the recent
two years in the international competitions. After
the first tactical round Kunkabayev was able to
launch a lethal punch against Edgar Ramon Munoz
who went to the floor after that shot which was a
classical KO triumph for the Kazakh boxer.

The Issatai Taimanov &
Makhambet Utemisov Memorial
Tournament was held in Atyrau,
Kazakhstan where the host nation’s two boxers Rashid Salauatov and Amandyk Manashev
were able to defend their titles
while the Syrian squad demonstrated its power and won two
gold medals in the competition.
The competition was named by Issatai
Taimanov and Makhambet Utemisov
who were real warriors and poets two
hundred years ago. The Syrian elite team
competed in Atyrau and all of their four
boxers claimed medals in the Issatai
Taimanov and Makhambet Utemisov
Memorial Tournament in spite of the
political crisis in their country.
Alaaldin Ghossoun eliminated Russian
and Uzbek boxers in the road to the
final where he triumphed over Belarus'
London 2012 Olympian veteran Mikhail

motivation for him before the Final AOB
World Olympic Qualification Event.
His teammate Manaf Asaad moved up
to the Super Heavyweight class (+91 kg)
and claimed Syria's second gold medal
in Atyrau following his triumph over
24

he eliminated former ASBC Asian
Youth Champion Kanat Koptleuov in

The women boxers could compete in
eleven weight classes from the 45 kg up
to the +81 kg in the Vietnamese National
Cup in Can Tho. The three Olympic
weight classes were really strong in the
competition with their current and future
bests in the line-ups. In the absence
of Incheon 2014 Asian Games bronze
medallist Le Thi Bang another national
team member boxer Le Thi Ngoc Anh
was able to win the Flyweight class (51 kg)
following her triumph over Nguyen Thanh
Thuy.
Do Thi Mai also has got experiences
from several national and international
competitions and won the second Olympic
category, the Lightweight class (60 kg)
in the National Cup. Ngo Thi Chung
competed in the AIBA Asian & Oceanian
Olympic Qualification Event in Qian'an,
China, won her first difficult contest
there; therefore her final success at the
Middleweight class (75 kg) meant she is
still on the throne in local environment.
AIBA Women's Junior World Champion
Vuong Thi Vy will be turning to 21 later this
year but she is unbeaten in the national
level since 2012. She demonstrated her
technique against Nguyen Thi Tuyet in the
final of the Featherweight class (57 kg)
which is a non-Olympic category. ASBC
Asian Confederation Women's Boxing
Championships bronze medallist Ha Thi
Linh could be a new sensation in the
upcoming years who dominated her bouts
in the National Cup and defended her title.
The men part of the Vietnamese
National Cup also contained eleven
different weight classes from the 46 kg up
to the +91 kg in Can Tho. The first gold
medal was achieved by Le Tien Tien in the
Pinweight class (46 kg) while one of the
strongest performance was delivered by
Nguyen Gia Kien who defeated national
team member Tran Van Thao for the gold
medal and regained his place in the top
of the podium at the Flyweight class (52
kg). Tran Phu Cuong achieved great results
in the international level in the recent
one year and his efforts were enough to
beat Nguyen Van Gioi in the final of the
Bantamweight class (56 kg).
Nguyen Van Hai is a veteran boxer in
the national team but he was still able to
dominate the Lightweight class (60 kg) in
the national event, beating Nguyen Van
Chung in the gold medal bout. Nguyen
Van De competed in the ASBC Asian
Confederation Boxing Championships
in Bangkok, Thailand last year and his
experiences were enough to stop all of his
rivals in the Light Welterweight class (64
kg).
Huynh Ngoc Vien till be turning to 25
soon and his opponents were not enough
strong to stop him at the Welterweight
class (69 kg) in the National Cup. Southeast
Asian Games winner and ASBC Asian
Confederation Boxing Championships
quarter-finalist Truong Dinh Hoang is the
most successful Vietnamese man boxer
who was in different level than Bui Phu
Tuan Son in the final of the Middleweight
class (75 kg). Another strong performance
was delivered by national team boxer
Vo Van Que who moved up to the
Heavyweight class (91 kg) since his last
international appearance.

The Japanese High School Championships was held in the city of Fukushima which was a new venue
in the country’s boxing life. The competition was scheduled for the youth athletes and it was a selection event for the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships which will be held in
Pavlodar, Kazakhstan in May.
Women boxers could fight in three weight
classes in Fukushima where the best female
performance was delivered by 18-year-old
Tsukimi Namiki who won the gold medal
at the Balkan Women's Youth Tournament
in Sofia, Bulgaria last November. Japan's
biggest woman talent stopped Honoka
Seo in the semi-finals and he was able to
beat Mei Miyamoto in the gold medal bout
of the Women's Flyweight class (51 kg).
The first gold medal at the Women's
Pinweight class (46 kg) claimed by Koura
Nanami who will be turning to 17 only in

beat Reika Nozaki in Fukushima. Japanese
High School National Champion Seira
Hamaguchi claimed the third gold medal
in the women competition following her
dominancy in the Lightweight class (60 kg)
where she stopped all of her opponents
by TKO.
Eight weight classes were held in the
men competition of the High School
National Championships from the 46 kg
up to the 75 kg weight class. The Japanese

Uzbekistan last June and several of those
talents were also successful in Fukushima
as well.
Ginjiro Shigeoka eliminated Ryusei
Matsumoto in the semi-final of the Men's
Pinweight class (46 kg) and continued
the winning path against Arashi Imao
in the first gold medal bout of the male
competition. ASBC Asian Confederation
Junior Boxing Championships bronze
medallist Keisuke Matsumoto is only
16 but his skills were enough to beat
the top favourite of the Light Flyweight
class (49 kg) AIBA Junior World Boxing
Championships quarter-finalist titleholder
Takumi Tamura in Fukushima.
Hayato Tsutsumi attended in the AIBA
Junior World Boxing Championships and
also in the ASBC Asian Confederation
Junior Boxing Championships last year
therefore his gold medal at the Flyweight
class (52 kg) was not a surprise in
Fukushima where he defeated Takeru
Inoue in the final while defending ASBC
Asian Junior Champion Ryutaro Nakagaki
claimed only bronze in the event.
ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing
Championships silver medallist Taiga
Imanaga proved top performance once
again and dominated his Bantamweight
class (56 kg) final over Fumiya Fumise in
the event.
Miyazaki-based 18-year-old Reo Saito
had a difficult semi-final against Shinichiro
Morishita but following that narrow victory
he defended his throne beating Kazuki
Iwasaki in the final of the Lightweight class
(60 kg).
ASBC Asian Confederation Junior
Boxing Championships silver medallist
Issei Aramoto had thirteen rivals in the
Japanese High School Championships and
he dominated all of his fights against Yohei
Masuda, Ryuya Yokouchi and Naohiro
Okada as well.

in the last edition which he changed into
gold in Fukushima while the last title at the
Middleweight class (75 kg) was achieved
by Natsu Shinjo.
