velvet velvet Velvet dates back to before the first millenium and has crossed the world’s 5 continents. By the thirteenth century, production of the cloth, made entirely from silk, had become established in western Europe, where the expertise in velvet-weaving was restricted at this period to various Italian cities such as Lucca and Florence. VELVET A fabric for all e first English reference to velvet is that in 1278, an epoque when velvet got increasingly popular amongst the nobility for drapery, upholstery and clothing. We assure you, upholstery velvet has excellent durability. Even so, here’s our word of advice: to keep it looking good, it is helpful to vacuum it occasionally using a brush aachment. is reduces the build up of any dust which could otherwise dull the colour of the fabric. In addition to its color, the luminosity of velvet is permanent. Abrasion, the fabric’s resistance to rubbing, is of the highest in the world of fabrics. Curtains Curtains Elegant, practical wall-robe Velvet curtain fabric is recommended for curtains: it drapes well, has excellent acoustic and thermal insulation properties (so your house will be warm and quiet) and is hard to damage so it will remain looking pristine for a longer time than other fabrics. Originally made from silk, velvet was extremely expensive. It had always been linked to wealthy period homes and the aristocracy. If you wish to add a lile class to your home, Wardé encourages the use of velvet for the curtains. Modern curtain velvet fabric is made from polyester or other synthetic fibres and, as such, is robust and oen washable.
