Guide to Home Theatre
The DVD revolution has created an explosion in demand for
multi-channel or ‘Home Theatre’ systems. Mordaunt-Short’s
Surround sound set-ups
tradition in this arena stretches back to the early ‘90s with
our ‘Home Entertainment’ Series from 1992 and our famous
Dolby Pro Logic ‘Decoder One’ from 1993.
Today the current Avant Premiere, Avant, Classic and
500 Series THX Select products maintain our commitment
to outstanding Home Theatre systems. The enclosed
products start with dedicated sub-sat packages, right
through to full THX specification systems, with many
permutations in between.
An overview of the multi-channel formats and a guide to

The 500 Series THX Select System represents a milestone
in both Home Theatre loudspeaker performance and the
four-decade history of its maker. Each system component
has been designed and engineered with the same
meticulous attention to detail and high quality materials that
have made Mordaunt-Short’s products among the most
critically acclaimed and highly regarded in the world.
The design brief for the 500 THX Select System was
therefore a simple one: “Give us a system that can really
deliver movie soundtrack effects and replay music
without compromising on either. And it has to be THX
certified as well!”
It is testimony to the ability and ingenuity of our design
team that the 500 Series was the first British designed
loudspeaker system to achieve THX Select certification and
is the first in the world to feature integrated sub-woofer
amplifiers in the front channel towers.

The Avant 900 Series continues our history of designing and
building class leading loudspeakers. For over three decades
Mordaunt-Short has proudly been at the forefront of
loudspeaker technology and the Avant Series continues this
tradition.
This sophisticated and striking new line-up refines existing
and proven speaker technologies, as well as introducing a
raft of pioneering new materials and technologies.
