reviews each stage of the production process. The
Kid Comfort child carriers are suitable for children
who can sit upright by themselves. The maximum
load capacity (child + gear + Kid Comfort) is 22 kg.
The ergonomic design of the Deuter Kid Carriers is thought-through
to the detail and was developed in cooperation with paediatric surgeon Dr. med Micha Bahr
from the Ruhr University Bochum. It guarantees a
healthy and safe sitting posture for the child: the
width of the seat varies in relation to the adjusted
height and in combination with the footrests creates
the perfect individual position. The ergonomic chin
pad, the side wings with compression straps and the
backrest with integrated headrest provide maximum
stability to all sides.

The sun roof option
is easily and generously adjustable – even when the child is
already seated. Lift the buckle under the chin pad to lower
the seat; or tighten the adjustment strap to lift the seat.
Slip one hand under the seat to support the lift. The height
adjustable seat perfectly accomodates the growing child,
with the chin at the level of the upper half of the chin pad.
The width of the seat cushions
matches the adjusted height and thus gurantees an ergonomic sitting posture in combination with the specific footrest construction. The width increases with the height of the
seat to guarantee a natural spread squat position; the lower
the seat the narrower the width for an upright sitting position. The seat cover material is skin-friendly, quick drying and
breathable – super comfortable even on hot summer days.
Height adjustable footrests
support the blood flow of the child’s legs, help
maintain an ergonomic posture and prevent the
legs from ‘falling asleep’ or getting cold. The
footrests are flexible, so the child can playfully change his/her leg and sitting position, yet
at the same time cannot lift him/herself out of
the seat. This construction further prevents the
child from swaying back and forth and the child
carrier will also not tilt over when standing. The
height of the footrests is steplessly adjustable:
the legs should neither dangle nor should the
angle be too compressed.
The sturdy aluminium frame
The simple and safe side entry
is very popular with kids, because they have the option
of climbing into the seat by themselves. It is also easy
and safe to lift in your child with the yellow buckled side
access open.

role in the development of child carriers – we wanted to take our kids with us outdoors! In our experience, child carriers are the best means of transport
for kids aged 1–4/5.

Ruhr University Hospital in Bochum/Germany. We
asked him to evaluate our kid carriers – a rather easy
task for him since he has been using them for years.

We used them more often than the pushchairs.” And
Dr. Bahr adds: “The rocking movement reminds kids
of the movement they felt in their mother’s womb.
Of course, they also enjoy being so close to the
carrier – they have a great time playing with their
parents’ hair….” Brain research has further shown
that the swaying, three-dimensional movement has
a positive stimulating effect on the child’s equilibrium organ, “which is very important for the development of the child! You can even say that the
transport in a child carrier fosters childrens’ perceptions and senses – compared to kids who are carried
around in a car.” As soon as his daughters were able
to sit upright they changed from baby sling to child
carrier – and were always outdoors with mum and
dad. Dr. Bahr concludes: “I believe that Deuter has
revolutionized the culture of mobility for both, child
and parent, by developing the kid carriers in the late
1990ies. And at the same time it has also contributed to a healthier neurophysiological development
of children.”
The unique mobility is indeed a major advantage:
parents are no longer limited or restricted! With a
child carrier they can go to places, which are impossible to reach with a pushchair. And the whole family
can enjoy the outdoors! “From an early age the kids
can explore nature instead of spending their times
in front of TV or computer screens”, says Dr. Bahr.
“Over and over again my girls surprise me with their
curiosity and attentiveness. They point out all those
little, fascinating things and they love observing and
exploring. Being outdoors is an experience we share
as a family and that brings us closer together. The
kid carriers help making those experiences possible.
And they also foster the direct communication between us and the girls.” After numerous tours Dr.
Bahr reviewed our Kid Comforts: “Deuter’s back systems offers a very ergonomic and balanced carry,
while the seat for the child providess great comfort
and thought-through safety details. In particular the
5-point harness and the easy seat access make it the
best and safest child carrier currently available on
the market.”

change with the growing child. The smaller the child,
the wider the spread squat position should be.” Further, the new, ergonomic chin pad supports the little
head when it sinks forward while taking a nap. Deuter presented the first prototypes about six months
after the first meetings with Dr. Bahr and the brand
was ready for the next step. “I more or less invited
a whole kindergarten to our headquarters – the kids
of colleagues and friends took over our offices…”
says product manager Miguel Tiblas. The boys and
girls of different age were carried around in the new
Kid Comforts. The team analyzed the height and
the width of the seat, the position and length of
the head- and footrests etc. “It is part of the game,
when you take it seriously!” Miguel believes. And
we take it seriously! In the end, your child is the most
precious load you will ever carry!
“I remembered one time when I was hiking with
my wife Reni and our eldest daughter who had just
turned one. We wanted to climb a really beautiful
peak, but after an hour she cried so hard and we
couldn’t calm her down.” Why? Her legs had fallen
asleep. To avoid this we have constructed height
adjustable footrests for our revised child carriers:
no dangling feet, no pinched nerves! The legs stay
warm and the kids don’t suffer from pins and needles. Further, the footrests animate the kids to play
with their little feet, which further enhances the
blood circulation. At the same time, our new footrests consider all safety aspects: the construction
prevents the kids from pushing themselves out of the
seat, because it doesn’t provide enough back-pressure to stand up or ‘rock’ the carrier.
Yet this was only the beginning: with Dr. Bahr’s
feedback our product development team with Steve Buffington, Thomas Hilger, Fabian Rampelmann
and Miguel Tiblas started to revise the Kid Comfort
range. The result: the child’s seat can now be easily and generously adjusted in height and width –
