The U.S. Men’s National Team will look to defend its title in the 2015
CONCACAF Gold Cup from July 7-26. The tournament takes place at 13
venues in the United States and one in Canada. Winning the tournament
would clinch a berth for the MNT in the FIFA 2017 Confederations Cup.

A pair of goals from U.S. MNT forward Clint
Dempsey helped the U.S. begin its title defense with a 2-1 win against Honduras in Frisco,
Texas. The team will play game two in Boston
against Haiti (July 10, 8:30 p.m. ET, FOX Sports 1,
UniMás), before concluding group play against
Panama (July 13, 8:30 p.m. CT FOX Sports 1,
UniMás). The top two finishers from the group
will advance to the quarterfinals along with the
top two teams from groups B and C. The two
highest third-place finishers will also advance.

Gold Cup Goal Scorers: Clint Dempsey put in a pair of
goals against Honduras to push his career total to seven
Gold Cup goals. Wondolowski (5), Beckerman, Bradley, and
Diskerud have all scored goals in previous Gold Cups. All five
of Wondolowski’s goals came in the 2013 Gold Cup, where
he tied for the tournament’s Golden Boot.
Riding a hot streak: The U.S. is riding a five game winning streak and is ununbeaten in its last six games. Four of
those games were against opponents ranked in the top 20
in the world (3-0-1) including Wolrd Cup champion Germany
and sixth-ranked Netherlands.

• Against Netherlands on June 5, Brad Guzan made his first appearance since he played against Colombia on Nov. 14, 2014.
It was his first start of 2015. Also picking up wins against Germany, Guatemala and Honduras, Guzan is a perfect 4-0-0 in
2015.
• Fabian Johnson helped lift Borussia Mönchengladbach to a third-place finish in the Bundesliga that earned the club a
spot in the 2016 UEFA Champions League group stage. The German side went 10-0-2 with Johnson in the starting lineup this
season.
• Johannsson recorded four goals in his final three matches as AZ Alkmaar snatched the third spot in the Dutch Eredivisie
and a place in the 2016 UEFA Europa League.
• Alfredo Morales played a key role in FC Ingolstadt securing first place in the second division in Germany and subsequent
promotion to the Bundesliga.
• Bradley has played every minute of the USA’s nine matches so far in 2015. In addition to Bradley, two other MNT players
have appeared in all nine games this year: Zardes and DeAndre Yedlin.
• Zusi was both part of the team that represented the U.S. in the World Cup last summer and this year’s Gold Cup roster.
He made his first appearance of 2015 in the match against Guatemala on July 3 in Nashville.
• William Yarbrough, 26, was born and raised in Mexico to two American parents. He has marshaled the backline for Club
Leon to the 2013 Apertura and 2014 Clausura titles.
• Ventura Alvarado, who is now cap-tied to the U.S. after starting in the match against Honduras on July 7, has appeared in
seven straight matches since making his debut in a U.S. uniform on March 25 against Denmark. Alvarado is a regular starter
for the Club America team that captured the CONCACAF Champions League title and a trip to the FIFA Club World Cup. He
has started four of the last five games for the U.S. MNT, in which the team is 4-0-0.
• Seven leagues from six countries are represented on the roster: Canada, England, Germany, Mexico, Netherlands and
the United States.
• Dempsey leads the team in points with eight in 2015 on four goals.

Despite his extensive experience, Guzan earned
his first first appearance in a Gold Cup game in the
match against Honduras. He was a part of the 2007
team that won the tournament, serving as understudy to Tim Howard and Kasey Keller. Guzan boasts
an impressive 5-1-1 record in World Cup qualifiers.
The Chicago-area native sits fifth on U.S. Soccer’s
all-time list for goalkeeper with 15 wins and has recorded nine shutouts in his 30 caps.
After a refreshing performance at the 2014 World
Cup, the 21-year-old midfielder earned his first Gold
Cup came in the matchup with Honduras. Yedlin is
one of three MNT players that have appeared in every match this year, teeing up John Brooks for the
USA’s first goal in the comeback win against Netherlands in June. Having transferred to English Premier
League club Tottenham Hotspur in the winter, he
made his debut in April.
Gonzalez earned a championship medal from the
2013 Gold Cup, joining the group in the knockout
phase of the tournament. The 6’5” defender played
a part in the MNT’s run in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
He has one appearance in 2015 and made it count,
starting in the team’s win 2-0 against Mexico in
April.

Michael Bradley reached 100 caps in the USA’s opening Gold Cup match against Honduras. A member of
the 2007 Gold Cup-winning squad, he has played in
12 career Gold Cup games and tallied one goal. The
Toronto FC captain is the only player to start all eight
matches for the USA in 2015, and he collected backto-back Man of the Match honors in the huge wins
against Netherlands and Germany.
This MNT veteran hoisted the Gold Cup trophy in
2013 and was a part of the 2009 team that finished
as runner-up. In that 2009 event, Beckerman recorded first international goal on a stunning volley in the
quarterfinal. A role model for commitment both on
and off the field, the Real Salt Lake captain turned in
a distinguished performance in the 2014 World Cup
and started in game one against Honduras.
A little more than a year ago, Brooks headed in a
game-winning wonder goal in Brazil to give the U.S. a
victory against Ghana in its first game of the World
Cup. Brooks made his first appearence in a confederation championship, earning the start in game one
against Honduras. A regular at Hertha Berlin, the
second international goal for the 22-year-old centerback started the run that led to the comeback win
against sixth-ranked Netherlands in June.

The stock of Alfredo Morales continues to rise, the
midfielder having played in four games for the MNT
in 2015, starting two. The Berlin, Germany native
played a key role in FC Ingolstadt’s securing first
place in the second division in Germany and subsequent promotion to Bundesliga.
The most experienced player on the roster with
112 caps, Dempsey is the only player in this group
to have appeared in four Gold Cups. A part of the
championship teams in 2005 and 2007, he has 16
career appearances in the tournament and with the
two goals he scored against Honduras in the first
game of the tournament, he has seven career Gold
Cup goals. Dempsey has scored at least one goal in
four editions of the tournament.

This will be Johannsson’s first Gold Cup experience.
The forward was a part of the 2014 World Cup roster
and has played in three games for the MNT in 2015.
Johannsson scored against Denmark in March and
recorded four goals in his final three club matches
as AZ Alkmaar snatched the third spot in the Dutch
Eredivisie and a place in the 2016 UEFA Europa
League.

Diskerud’s karate-kick style goal that put the U.S. level
against World Cup Champion Germany in June encapsulates the flair and creativity he brings to the center
of the park. A part of the 2013 team that won the Gold
Cup, he appeared in all six matches and started three,
and included a goal in the 5-1 against El Salvador in
the quarterfinal. His performances led to his selection
for the 2014 World Cup roster. Now patrolling the midfield for NYC FC, his MNT debut was a special one back
in 2010 when he assisted on the game-winning goal in
the USA’s 1-0 victory against South Africa in the Nelson Mandela Challenge Cup.
This will be the third straight Gold Cup for Bedoya.
He helped the U.S. reach the final in 2011, and then
two years later delivered the pass to Brek Shea on
the championship-winning goal in the 1-0 win against
Panama in the final. The pacey winger played all four
games for the USA in the 2014 World Cup and has
earned 39 caps in his MNT career. Injuries limited
him to two appearances for the U.S. in 2015.
Nick Rimando was a part of the last two Gold Cup
squads, marshalling the defense to a shutout victory
against Panama in the championship final. Rimando
has started in five games for the MNT in 2015, earning the clean sheet in the “dos a cero” against Mexico on April 15 in San Antonio.

Alvarado started at center back in the match
against Honduras. The defender is now officially
cap tied to the USA. Alvarado is a regular starter for
the Club America team that captured the CONCACAF Champions League title and a trip to the FIFA
Club World Cup. He has started in four of the last
five games for the MNT, in which the team is 5-0-0.
The 23-year-old Mexican-American will experience
his first Gold Cup after making three appearances
and starting two games in 2015. The Grapevine,
Texas-native was called in for MNT duty and made
his debut in September 2014 in the USA’s 1-0 win
against Czech Republic. Garza has played through
every level of the U.S. MNT beginning at the U-14
level.
The Bolton Wanderers defender earned two Gold
Cup caps in 2011 and is back for the 2015 edition
of the tournament after coming on late in the U.S.’s
draw with then 12th-ranked Switzerland in Zurich.
Ream has been a model of consistency at Bolton,
where he has earned honors as the team Player of
the Year in each of the last two seasons.

Evans debuted for the MNT during the 2009 edition
of the Gold Cup, where he also got his first sniff as a
right back. A part of the 30-man preliminary roster for
the 2014 World Cup, the Seattle Sounders FC captain
assisted on the game-winning goal in the team’s win
against the reigning World Cup Champion Germany
in June. Evans cam on as a substitute in game one
against Honduras.
Altidore was a part of the 2011 Gold Cup team that
reached the final, scoring two goals in four games
played, including the game-winner in the 1-0 win
against Guadeloupe. The veteran striker has 27 goals
in 81 appearances with the MNT, tallying two goals
and an assist in four games in 2015. The two-time
World Cup veteran was forced out of the tournament
in Brazil after injuring his hamstring in the opening
game against Ghana, but returned for this year’s
Gold Cup and made the start against Honduras
In 2013, Wondolowski played a big part in the MNT’s
run to the Gold Cup title. Scoring five goals, he tied
for the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer. Wondolowski appeared in his third confederation
championship after coming on as a substitute in the
match with Hondurass. Now with 28 career caps,
Wondolowski played in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The
San Jose Earthquakes captain is the second-leading
goalscorer in MLS this season with seven goals.

Zusi played a big role for the United States in the 2014
World Cup, appearing in all four games and starting
in three. Zusi recorded a pair of assists in the tournament, including the corner kick delivery that John
Brooks headed in to defeat Ghana in the opening
game. Zusi has a special history against Panama, having scored his first international goal in the 1-0 win
against them in 2012, then delivering the crushing
blow to Panama’s World Cup dream when he tied the
game in the 91st minute of the teams’ meeting in the
last qualifying match for Brazil. The midfielder from
Sporting Kansas City appeared in #USAvHON.
Zardes is one of three MNT players who has appeared in every U.S. match in 2015. He scored his
first international goal in the team’s 4-3 win against
sixth-ranked Netherlands in June. Having scored 19
goals for the LA Galaxy in 2014, Zardes earned his
first cap against Chile this past January and made
his first Gold Cup appearance by starting in game
one against Honduras.
Chandler was a part of the MNT’s World Cup roster
last summer and made his first Gold Cup appearance against Holland. Able to play as a defender on
either flank, Chandler has started in sixgames in
2015 and recorded an assist in the March match
against Denmark a goal in the match with Guatemala, and started in the match against Honduras.

This will be the first Gold Cup experience for William
Yarbrough, who made his debut with the MNT in March
in the USA’s 1-1 draw against No. 12-ranked Switzerland. Yarbrough, 26, was born and raised in Mexico by
his American parents from Texas. He marshaled the
backline for Club Leon to the 2013 Apertura and 2014
Clausura titles in Liga MX. Yarbrough, who is also eligible to play for Mexico, would officially be forever tied
to the United States should he appear in this competition.
Following a stand-out performance in the 2014 World
Cup, Johnson made his debut Gold Cup appearance by starting against Honduras. He has started
five games in 2015, including the victories against
Netherlands and Germany, teeing up Gyasi Zardes
to spark the USA’s comeback in Holland. Johnson
had a big year with his club Borussia Monchengladbach, where the team went an unbeaten 10-0-2 with
Johnson in the starting lineup and finished in third
place in Bundesliga to clinch a spot in the 2016 UEFA
Champions League group stage.

The Head Coach

JURGEN KLINSMANN
Jurgen Klinsmann became the 35th head coach in the history of the U.S. Men’s National Team on July
29, 2011. Here is a look at the program’s achievements since that time:
• Overall, Klinsmann has a 39-17-12 record, third on the U.S. MNT’s all-time
coaching wins list. The top five include: Bruce Arena (71), Bob Bradley (43),
Klinsmann (34), Bora Milutinovic (30) and Steve Sampson (26).
• He won a record-setting 13 straight games at home from June 2, 2013 to
Feb. 1, 2014, and has guided the team to an unbeaten record of 17-0-3 in its past
20 matches on home soil.
•
He led the MNT to a 12-game winning streak in 2013, the longest in program
history.
• The U.S. finished 2013 with a 16-4-3 record. The 16 victories and .761 winning
percentage are all-time U.S. MNT records for a calendar year.
• The U.S. finished the final round of 2013 CONCACAF World Cup qualifying
atop the Hexagonal with a 7-1-2 overall record, including an unblemished 5-0-0 home record that was achieved by pitching clean
sheets in all five matches.
• The team won six straight games en route to capturing
the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup, during which the squad scored a
tournament-record 20 goals. Klinsmann is 7-0-0 in the Gold Cup
with the USA.
• Committed to challenging the group against the best, under Klinsmann, the
United States has a 4-3-2 record against teams ranked in the top 10 in the world.
With Klinsmann at the helm, the U.S. has also collected six historic victories:
o Beating four-time World Cup champion Italy for the first time
o Earning the first win against Mexico on Mexican soil
o Defeating Jamaica on the road for the first time in World Cup Qualifying
o Topping second-ranked Germany in U.S. Soccer’s Centennial Celebration Match
o Beating Netherlands and Germany on the road this June
•Klinsmann’s U.S. coaching debut was a 1-1 draw against Mexico on Aug. 10, 2011, at
Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. During Klinsmann’s abbreviated 2011 tenure,
the USA’s two victories included a 1-0 win against Honduras (Oct. 8) and a 3-2
victory against Slovenia (Nov. 15).
• Klinsmann was named Germany’s National Team manager in 2004 and guided Germany to a 20-6-8 record and a third-place finish in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He
earned Coach of the Year honors in Germany, and two years later, he took over the

TThe U.S. Men’s National Team began its quest to defend its
Gold Cup title with a 2-1 win against Honduras in front of a sell-out
crowd of 22,357 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. In his 16th
Gold Cup appearance Clint Dempsey notched a double and Michael Bradley, on the night of his 100th MNT cap, tallied an assist
to lead the MNT to victory.
Demspey headed in the USA’s first score off a rebound in the
25th minute and again found the net by rising above the defense
to head in a Bradley free kick in the 64th minute. The Texas-native
has scored at least one goal in four different editions of the tournament and his seven career Gold Cup tallies put him in fourth
place on the MNT’s all-time list.
In his first Gold Cup start, goalkeeper Brad Guzan picked up
the win, which was his fourth in as many games in 2015.
The MNT is an unbeaten 13-0-0 in Gold Cup openers and improved its record against Honduras to 6-0-1 in Gold Cup play.

Michael Bradley, who sent in a short corner. Jozy Altidore jumped and
tried to flick on, but the ball passed through into the center of the
box. There it rebounded off the defense and back to a recovering Altidore, who fired a shot at goal. The ball again deflected out in front
where Clint Dempsey was in prime position to head the ball into the

United States Men’s National Team’s title defense continues
against Haiti on Friday, July 10 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough,
Massachusetts. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. ET and the match will
be broadcast live on FOX Sports 1, UniMás and Univision Deportes
Network.
After opening the tournament with a 2-1 win against Honduras, the MNT sets it sights on Haiti, who is coming from a 1-1 draw
against Panama in its first match of the tournament. Haiti and
the USA have squared off twice before in the tournament, the last
time being in 2009. That game, which was also played at Gillette
Stadium, marked the second time a team drew that U.S. in Gold
Cup group play. The pair also previously squared off at the 2000
CONCACAF Gold Cup, a 3-0 U.S. win.
The teams have met 16 times overall, with the MNT holding
an all-time record of 5-6-5 against the Caribbean nation. Haiti is
one of only two CONCACAF teams to hold a winning record against
the United States, along with Mexico.
The U.S. is riding a five-game winning streak and is unbeaten
in its last six games. Four of those games were against opponents ranked in the top 20 in the world (3-0-1), including current
FIFA World Cup champion Germany and No.6-ranked Netherlands.
Haiti will be the fourth CONCACAF team that the U.S. faces in
2015. The MNT is 4-0-0 on the year against its region rivals,
having defeated Panama, Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras.
SPECIAL GAME FOR ALTIDORE
It will be a special scenario for Jozy Altidore when he steps
on the field against Haiti for the first time in the USA’s second
Gold Cup match at Gillette Stadium. Altidore grew up in Boca Raton, Fla. as the son of Haitian immigrants. Over the years he has
become an attacking pillar for the MNT, scoring 27 goals in 80
appearances, and all the while he’s carried along the Haitian roots
passed to him by his parents.
In 2010, as then 20-year-old Altidore and the rest of the United States had their sights on the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South
Africa, disaster shook the Caribbean nation. A 7.0 magnitude
earthquake crumbled the country, claiming the lives of more than
200,000 people and leaving one million more homeless.
Altidore saw the news bulletins broadcasting the disaster on TV. He saw the country he had visited number of times growing up
diminished to rubble. Altidore leapt to action, and through personal donations and fundraising quickly contributed over $100,000
towards scholarships and water stations in Haiti.
