I. Romania
Romania is a central eastern European
country known for the forested region
of Transylvania, preserved medieval
towns such as Brasov and many
fortified churches and castles, notably
clifftop Bran Castle, long associated
with the Dracula legend. The area is
ringed by the Carpathian Mountains,
which are popular for trekking,
climbing, skiing and bathing in natural
thermal spas.

With an area of 238,391 square
kilometers (92,043 sq mi), Romania is
the largest country in Southeastern
Europe and the twelfth-largest in
Europe. It lies between latitudes 43°
and 49° N, and longitudes 20° and 30° E.
The terrain is distributed roughly
equally between mountains, hills and
plains.
II. Brasov
Brasov is a city in the Transylvania region of Romania, ringed by the Carpathian
Mountains. It's known for its medieval Saxon walls and bastions, the towering
Gothic-style Black Church and lively cafes. Council Square in the cobbled old
town is surrounded by colorful baroque buildings and is home to the Casa
Sfatului, a former town hall turned local history museum.

III. Get to Brasov
There is no direct flight to Brasov, but you can fly to other destinations in
Romania (Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Târgu Mureş, Sibiu) and then take a bus or a
train to Braşov. We provided you some useful links that may help you in booking.

Our advice:
If you live in a country near Romania, you should consider coming by train or bus.
You won’t get here fast, but it’s cheaper. Sibiu and Bucharest are the closest cities
to Brasov. You could visit Sibiu (really awesome city) or Bucharest which is our
capital. We also have BEST people in Bucharest. If you need some help there,
contact us first!

Important advice:
If you arrive in Romania by airplane, take a look on train/bus schedule before.
After, take a taxi to the nearest train/bus station.
Always book your tickets exactly after you have been accepted. Most of the
times, airplane tickets are a lot cheaper if you buy them faster.

IV. When you reach Brasov
You will find us at „Colina campus” or „Colina Universitatii”!
When you reach the train station (Gara Brasov) in Brasov, you go pass the parking
lot to the bus station. From there you can either take a taxi (1.7 ~ 2.2 Euro; you
just have to say “Pe colina, la teren”), which is much easier, or the bus (no 40).
You should consider taking a taxi or sharing it with other participants!
If you take the bus number 40 (a ticket costs about ~1 euro/4 lei), leave at the at
the third station. By now you should have reached a place that is near a big
intersection and with a big store - SERGIANA (p1). From here you pass the street
towards the store and go by it until you reach the next intersection. You take a
left and then at the fork of the road you turn right (p2). When you reach the road
that is climbing up the hill called Universitatii street, go for it (p3)! And hopefully,
at the end of the road you will reach the 15th dorm, 5th floor, room 510, BEST

V. Accommodations and meals
You will stay in the 14th dorm, in a room with 3 other persons. Some meals might
be provided by a catering agency. If you're on a special diet or vegetarian you
should let us know one month before your arrival.
For the international evening, you should bring with you traditional food and
beverages in order to share them with us :P. We have fridges for your products.

VI. Other information: Currency
The Romanian currency is leu (singular), lei (plural). "Lei" is pronounced like the
meals
English
'lay' and in Romanian it means "lion".
Coins: 1 ban (0,01 RON), 5 bani (0,05 RON), 10 bani (0.1 RON), 50 bani (0,5 RON)
Notes: 1 leu, 5 lei, 10 lei, 50 lei, 100 lei, 200 lei and 500 lei.
The current exchange rates for Euro and USD are: 1Euro ~ 4.4 lei, 1USD ~ 4 lei.

First of all, in Romanian, you pronounce as you read, there is no special
pronunciation rule, you just have to say the letters from a word as they are

VII. List of stuff to bring
You must bring with you: passport / visa / ID card
For EU citizens your ID card is all you need to enter Romania. For non-EU
citizens a passport is required. If you do need a visa please make sure you
request it from the Romanian consulate with enough time in advance. LBG
Brasov will send you an invitation letter if you need it to obtain the visa. Also
please take into consideration that Romania is not part of the Schengen
Agreement.
Health insurance
For EU citizens the standard health insurance card is also valid in Romania. For
non-EU citizens you need to buy travel health insurance for the duration of your
stay in Romania.
Student card: (ISIC, Euro<26 or usual student card) – This will give you
discounts in many places such as museums.
International Evening:
Bring some typical food and drinks from your country for the International
Evening. When you choose the food please consider that it needs to last for a
few days between your arrival and the actual time when you serve it.
You can also buy the basic ingredients needed for your cooking from here so
just bring the ‘special’ stuff you are not able to find in a normal supermarket.
Leisure wear (for some games or sport activities and even your swimming suit)
Camera: at the end of the course there will be a million pictures taken because
almost everybody brings a digital photo camera. However if you want
something different you might bring a video camera to have some movies as
well.

VIII. Brasov weather forecast
In July the weather is usually unpredictable and the average temperature
is 29 C. Bring some clothes for rainy days also, but maybe the sun will
shine for us.
