Fairmont Prep Academy students must complete a total of 230 credits as well as a combination
of specific core subjects and electives in order to graduate. All students are required to complete
20 community service hours per year of attendance in order to meet graduation requirements.
All students will be placed in appropriate core courses according to Fairmont Prep placement
exams, standardized exams, teacher recommendations and Department Chair final approval.

At the time of applying to the Advanced Programs (ASEP or International Business),

requirements per the Advanced Studies Programs of choice. There is no guarantee of
admission to the Advanced Studies Programs, but students are encouraged to apply.

Students who have not yet met the English language proficiency requirements
to the International Foundation Year are able to apply to the Foundation
Program. This intensive extended day program consists of one-to-two
semesters dependent upon language ability. Upon completion of this
program, and acquisition of the necessary language skills, students
can advance into the International Foundation Year program.
The International Foundation Year is a program designed for international
students with an intermediate and low-advanced level of language
proficiency. This program combines intensive language coursework with
academic, credit-bearing coursework so that our international students
are able to maximize the time it takes to complete their studies.

The High School Diploma Program is for international students who would like to
receive a Fairmont Preparatory Academy diploma. The Diploma Program will give
international students the best chance at taking full advantage of the high quality
academic coursework offered at Fairmont Private Schools. Dependent on the student’s
language ability, admission to the high school diploma program may be by direct
entry, or through the International Foundation Year or the Foundation Program.
International students are encouraged to take advantage
of the advanced coursework during their time at Fairmont
Preparatory Academy. Advanced Placement (AP), International
Baccalaureate (IB), Honors and university-level courses are
offered through California State University, Fullerton and
the University of Arizona. These courses give students the
chance to prove their strong subject knowledge and increase
their chances of getting into a top college or university.

ADVANCED SCIENCE TRACK
ADVANCED ENGINEERING TRACK
The Advanced Science track is designed to prepare
motivated students for success as science majors at highly
regarded colleges and universities. The College Board
and the University of California have recognized courses
in the program as “exemplary and innovative.”
For those students interested in the fields of engineering
and physical sciences, Fairmont’s Engineering track offers
a hands-on, project-based curriculum supplemented
by internships (including Boeing), field trips, and
guest speakers to give students an appreciation and
a comprehensive understanding of engineering.
Through our partnerships with California State University,
Fullerton and the University of Arizona, students can take
up to seven university courses in math and engineering,
earning up to 25 semester units on university transcripts
by completing the Engineering curriculum.
Past research projects conducted include Stroke and
Parkinson’s Research at the University of Southern
California and Methionine Cancer Research at the
University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).
In the past, field trips for this program have included
the Kennedy Space Center, NASA’s Jet Propulsion
Lab, Disney’s Engineering Program, and the
Engineering labs at CalTech, UCLA and CSUF.

OUR PROGRAMS
Students learn, design, and carry out experiments in our fully
equipped laboratory, which houses a PCR themorcycler,
gel electrophoresis, and other equipment usually found
only in university labs. Students also conduct independent
research and have the opportunity to present their work
at the annual IEEE Measurement Science Conference.

their learning and earn college credit for some

OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM
Learning will extend outside of the classroom through several
Adjacent Learning Experiences, such as the Speakers’
Series and project-based short-term learning experiences.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in both
domestic and/or international internships. They will put
their skills to the test through supervised service projects
including the Capstone Project where seniors participate
in on-location consulting projects in emerging markets.

Fairmont has repeatedly been recognized by the College
Board and the Siemens Corporation for having one of the
top math programs in California. Fairmont’s math program
rivals those of top math and science schools across the
country and allows students to take college level math
courses rarely offered in high school. Through our partnership
with California State University at Fullerton, students can
earn direct university credit for most of our advanced math
courses, giving them the opportunity to receive up to 22
units of university math credit by the time they graduate.
The IB Diploma Program is a rigorous academic program,
which gives students the opportunity to earn an honorslevel, internationally-recognized high school diploma that
can be used for admittance to universities around the
world. Fairmont is one of few private schools in Orange
County that offers an IB Program, and our program is
unique because it is highly individualized. We work oneon-one with students to develop the best course of study.

PROGRAM
The Exchange Program is for students who would like to receive
an international experience across one or two semesters.
Students will have the opportunity to live with an American
family, make friends and experience life in Southern California
and the USA. Although the exchange program is a short-term
program, we welcome students to continue their studies with
us and join the diploma program should they be eligible.

Whether you are a High School Diploma
or Exchange student it is best for you
to know in advance what you will be
studying at Fairmont. The IFC staff will
arrange pre-arrival interviews and testing
either in-person in your country or by
Skype to ensure that
you can make the most of the
courses offered.
International students will join Fairmont
students in their regular orientation
activities. However, the IFC team
will organize a special orientation
for international students including
important information sessions as
well as fun activities to help you feel
at home from the day you arrive.
The IFC team works in conjunction
with all Fairmont teachers and staff
to give direction and advice to our
international students so they do
not miss valuable academic and
recreational opportunities. They will
keep you up-to-date and informed about
what is happening in the school.
DAY-TO-DAY SUPPORT
PROGRESS REPORTS
Studying in another country brings
challenges beyond just the language
barrier. The IFC office is the information
point for all international students at
Fairmont. Our counselors are present at
Fairmont’s campuses. Their primary role
is to help students communicate with
teachers, administration, and their host
families about their day-to-day concerns.
The IFC team will send periodic progress
reports back to each student’s parents.
These reports are valuable sources of
comfort and joy for parents, as they
see their son or daughter progress
academically and socially while
they are away from home.
Our international students maintain
adequate health insurance coverage
through IMG Global. Students have
100% coverage in-network and there is
a vast network of providers. IFC helps
to assist both host families and students
with finding the proper provider should
there be a need. We also assist with any
necessary claims after a visit to a medical
professional. Our insurance also covers
sports, adventure sports, and
mental health.
In addition to regular support from
Fairmont’s teachers, students who
are having difficulty with a particular
subject can be matched with a peer
tutor who is a member of the Fairmont
National Honors Society. Peer tutors are
current Fairmont’s students who make
themselves available to their fellow
students to mentor and instruct other
students in subjects they are excelling
in. Located in the Student Library,
students can utilize this resource during
their free periods throughout the school
day. If a student requires additional
academic support, our Student Service
Managers are happy to help students
connect with one of several experienced
tutors that work with our program.
We have a large network of local host
families who take pride in welcoming
international students into their homes.
The Homestay Program is an exceptional
opportunity for international students
to sharpen their English language
ability by immersing themselves in daily
conversations with typical American
families. Our Homestay Department
works diligently to review each student
application and determine which of our

COLLEGE AND COUNSELING PROGRAM
ONE-TO-ONE IPAD PROGRAM
Fairmont Preparatory Academy’s Academic and College
Counseling Program provide each student the individualized
guidance he or she needs to succeed academically and find
his or her best college fit. Academic and college related
information is also available. Fairmont’s student to counselor
ratio is 76:1 and its student to college counselor ratio is 44:1.
This ratio outshines both public and private schools nationwide
with ratios that range from 200:1 all the way to 800:1.
Fairmont’s One-to-One iPad program is a primary tool
for enhancing engagement between students and
teachers. The iPad is used in classes as diverse as
physics and physical education. Students take advantage
of their iPads to access real-time content, take notes
and assessments, and utilize relevant applications.
LIBRARY AND COMPUTER LAB
Our student library is equipped with the latest computers and
holds a vast collection of hard copy resources. The library
provides an ideal environment for students to take advantage of
some quiet moments for studying or conducting online research.
FAIRMONT TEC PROGRAM
The Fairmont TEC (Technology-Enhanced Curriculum)
investigates the best technology tools for the classroom,
provides training for our faculty and carefully plans for the
use of these tools. Our goal is to implement technology that
allows students to have a richer educational experience.
FAIRMONT PREP PLUS
SCIENCE LAB
Students learn, design and carry out experiments in Fairmont’s
fully equipped laboratory, which houses a PCR thermocycler,
gel electrophoresis and other equipment usually found
only in university labs. Sophomores carry out independent
research and have the opportunity to present their work
at the annual IEEE Measurement Science Conference.
Fairmont’s Prep Plus offers a variety of after school
tutoring and enrichment workshops. It gives students
opportunities to learn more about American culture, try a
new sport, prepare for a test, receive homework help or
socialize with friends. Prep Plus is included in tuition.
WRITING CENTER (PREP PLUS)

Students are able to meet one-on-one with a consultant
for sound advice during any stage of their writing.
The consultant provides advice to improve clarity,
argumentative impact, and help overcome writer’s block.

Only twenty minutes distance from the Pacific Coast
and a half hour from the Los Angeles City Center - life in
Southern California is sunny, healthy, warm and free. Our
large network of American families offer a welcoming
environment in which you have the comfort and space to
study hard and enjoy all that California has to offer.
Our host families are carefully selected from our large
network. Living with a family not only allows students to
practice their English even more, but it also gives you the
opportunity to gain a unique insight into the American
way of life. We respect the culture of every student who
joins us and our host families do the same. We all expect
students to respect the family environment they are in,
joining the family at meal times and keeping to the rules of
the house. The host family is here to take care of you.
With respect to meal times your host family will provide
breakfast and dinner during the week, and breakfast,
lunch and dinner during the weekend. Any special dietary
requirements will be noted and the host family may even take
you to an international supermarket to help you find some
foods from home. All our host family homes are serviced
by a school bus, or the family may be able to drop you
to school themselves and pick you up in the afternoon.

made sure to include me and we even
went to visit colleges together like Yale
University. I miss them so much already.

WEEKEND LIFE
Fairmont Homestay students appreciate the fact their school is located
in the heart of Southern California. There are an abundance of
weekend attractions for every interest and taste. Disneyland, Knott’s
Berry Farm, the San Diego Zoo, Hollywood and miles of beautiful
beaches are just a few of the world famous places to explore and have
fun. However, engaging in barbeques, game nights and birthdays
with host families tend to bring deeper memories for international
students. On campus, Fairmont Preparatory Academy is the place
for plays, musicals, sporting events and other fun activities.
Orange County is known around the world for its many weekend
getaways that include beaches, shopping malls and amusement parks.
It’s one of the few places on earth where you can spend the morning
on the coast and then drive up to the mountains in the afternoon.
Southern California offers countless days of sunshine and warm
weather. On weekends, friends can meet to go swimming, visit
art galleries, museums and many other attractions that make
the “OC” one of the top tourist attractions in the world.

Through Fairmont Homestay, your breakfast and dinner
are provided during the week. Lunches are provided
on the weekends. Your host family will be aware of
special dietary needs and requirements. Orange County
offers many international markets for your family to buy
foods from your home country. Dining together as a
family is an essential part of the American experience.
It goes beyond sharing a meal in that it’s a special time
for everyone to share their experiences of the day.
AT SCHOOL
Fairmont Preparatory Academy students enjoy their lunchtime
in a large school cafeteria. There are plenty of meal options,
which change throughout the week. The Spanish-style
architecture offers an exquisite backdrop for you to meet
with friends during lunch or on breaks between classes.

• 3-years past transcripts (in English)
• 1- Math Teacher Recommendation
• 1- English Teacher Recommendation
• English language test result (IELTS, TOEFL, SLATE, or ISEPA test result).
• Passport Copy
• Any additional documents

Confirming your place
If the applicant is accepted, the $2,800 enrollment
deposit and Part II of the application are to be submitted according to
the deadlines provided on site:

PART III
Once the $2,800 enrollment deposit and Part II have been received,
the I20 (student visa form) is issued along with the full fees invoice.
The applicant will be required to submit Part III (medical history &
immunization information) after successfully receiving a student visa.
The final stage in confirming your international studies
is the Visa Interview.
Success: If applicant successfully passes the visa interview, flight details
and full payment will be due before the student’s arrival to the program.
Fail: If applicant’s visa application is denied, please return
the original I20 to International Admissions with the visa
denial letter by post for a full refund of your deposit.

is needed our admissions officer will schedule the applicant’s Skype
interview. After the Skype interview the applicant will receive a result:
