NINA KRALJIĆ
Lighthouse
Eurovision Stockholm 2016.
BIOGRAPHY
Nina Kraljić
Nina Kraljić, 24-year-old student from Lipovljani, Croatia, is
singing since the early days of her childhood, and has
developed her singing skills through various music projects
and synchronization of animated movies. Her performances
in the first season of The Voice – Najljepši glas Hrvatske,
left few people indifferent. From her first audition where she
sang 'Beneath Your Beautiful' to the unique interpretation of a
regional evergreen 'Što te nema', all the way to the finale and
extraordinary performance of Macedonian folk song 'Zajdi,
zajdi', Nina left the audience speechless and fascinated with
her performances. Her extraordinary voice was also
recognized by Jacques Houdek, one of the coaches in the
first season of The Voice – Najljepši glas Hrvatske, and one of
the best male singers in Croatia, who mentored Nina to the
victory.
Two months after winning the show, Nina Kraljić presented
her debut single 'Zaljuljali smo svijet'
(https://youtu.be/7sGVI5LSonE), produced by Tihomir
Preradović, who was also part of #teamJacques during the
show, while the song was written by two well-known Croatian
authors – Ines Prajo as the author of the music and Arjana
Kunštek, as the author of the text.
Tihomir and I spent hours and hours
exchanging ideas and sought to implement
all of these ideas into a single image of all
that I love – etno and ambiental sound, epic
orchestration and mysticism. 26 instruments
from around the world can be heard in the
song and there was almost 1000 different
tracks in the mix so making songs was not
easy ...
revealed Nina. She added that she was very inspired by
the lyrics which she interpreted as the creative process of
creating and moving boundaries.
Beginning of 2016 marks her 3 nominations for Croatian
Music Award – Porin 2016 (Best New Act, Best Song
Arrangement, Best Female Vocals Performance), as well as
being chosen as representative for Croatia at Eurovision
Song Contest 2016! Nina was also recognized as a Best
Newcomer by Croatian national public broadcaster’s
radio HR2.
Nina is currently recording her debut album, which will be
released on Universal Music, and will not only include her first
single ‘Zaljuljali smo svijet’ but also her song – “Lighthouse”
for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm, which
she has revealed on March 9th. The song was written by
Andreas Grass and Nikola Paryla, better known as Popmaché,
and produced by Thorsten Brötzmann from Germany.
When I was thinking about to whom and what
I would dedicate my song, I remembered some
of my friends who work on a ship and only
return home after six months or a year, and
their stories: of homesickness and the sudden
feeling of anxiety, of upcoming adventures, of
which the seas hold infinitely many yet
unexplored ones. Likewise the song has
deeply reminded us of the refugees
who are looking for a home
overseas, and of the tragic
situations they are faced with...
explains Nina about the song. She will
perform the song on May 10th 2016,
First Semi-Final Evening.

Lightning strikes on the sea
Breaking waves around me
use
Lightho
So I steer to the pier
In tears – arriving
Stormy tides and I feel
No devastating times
My ship capsizing
I kept this hope of mine
Even in the darkest night
Out of sight – saving shore
Ever gone – evermore
‘Cause there is a light
Guiding my way
Ropes untied – rain that pours
Keeping me safe when oceans rage
The waters rising
There in the sky
In devastating times
Hiding away
I keep this hope of mine
Never to die and fade
Even in the darkest night
I know that I’ll find your
‘Cause there is a light
I know that I’ll find your
Guiding my way
Keeping me safe when oceans rage
There is a light
Keeping me safe when oceans rage
There in the sky
Hiding away
There in the sky
Never to die and fade
Hiding away
Never to die and fade
I know that I’ll find your
Lighthouse
I know that I’ll find your
Your lighthouse
I know that I’ll find your
Your lighthouse
Your lighthouse
Harbors near
Your lighthouse
No more fear
Your lighthouse
Wall of clouds disappears
Your lighthouse
The song basically tells a story about someone
who`s lost at sea struggling with the troubles of this
very situation. Though all hope seems lost – at first
– the protagonist is keeping his belief to overcome
all obstacles and find a way to the safe haven –
guided by the signals of a lighthouse. Aside from
the straight forward interpretation of the story the
artistic intention was to keep the lyrical topic as
metaphorical as possible. Since everybody knows
the feeling of being lost and abandoned we wanted
to provide some sort of "blank canvas" for the
listener to project their own personal stories onto –
whether you see it as a song about two separated
lovers getting back together or as a figurative
picture describing the recent events in Europe
regarding the refugees. It consciously all leaves
room for interpretations but still the same positive
message remains in all of them - that there`s
always hope and that things will work out in the
end – that there`s always a “lighthouse“.

ABOUT CROATIA
Stretching along the Adriatic Sea, just a stone’s throw from
Central Europe, Croatia is a country defined by a rich cultural
legacy. Today, history perfectly combines with a youthful spirit
and vibrant energy that prove irresistible to those seeking

gastronomy, adventure, sports and wellness, can be enjoyed all

UNESCO World Heritage Site, island-hopping around the Split
archipelago, truffle hunting in Istria, paragliding across the
Plitvice Lakes, delving into Zagreb’s streets and hidden passages,
birdwatching in Kopacki rit, partying the night away at Zrce
beach in Novalja or taking time out with the family on Zlatni Rat
beach, there truly is something for everyone in Croatia.

A beach for every taste
Stiniva beach on beautiful island of Vis voted as “Best Beach of
Europe in 2016”. There are many more beaches to explore in
Croatia – a one for every taste, true diversity!
After a long winter, it is definitely time to think about the next
summer holidays. And what else could travellers long for than
countless beaches, crystal clear waters and a pleasant mild
climate? Whether families with children, couples or party people,
Croatia has the right beach for everyone – and just a short
journey away from Europe. The high quality and the beauty of
the Croatian beaches has also just been awarded officially: Stiniva
on the island of Vis was voted “Best Beach of Europe in 2016” by
European Best Destinations*.
#01 Stiniva – Island of Vis. Welcome to one of the most
paradisiac places of Croatia! Stiniva beach, on the Island of Vis, is
the place to be this summer: Croatia’s secret diamond was
recently voted the “Best Beach of Europe in 2016” by European
Best Destinations. Stiniva beach is located at the southern part of
Vis, near the village Žužec. The small pebbly, cup-shaped beach
is hidden amongst high and narrow rocks and only a narrow gap
in the cliff allows a small glimpse at the sea. The sea-entrance is
very tight (five meters only) so that yachts can scarcely pass this
way. There is also no road to the bay – you can only get there by
hiking on a narrow and steep path or by taking one of the local
taxi boats at Rukavac cove. This hidden by nature, almost not
accessible beach is definitely worth the effort - a true treasure
and the perfect place for unforgettable moments like watching
the beautiful sunset or just relaxing and enjoying the good life.
More information about Vis available at
http://www.tz-vis.hr/Default.aspx?sifraStranica=19 .
#02 Zlatni Rat – Island of Brac. Zlatni Rat beach, another
remarkable spot created by Mother Nature and a highlight on
Croatia’s coastline, is located near Bol, on Brac Island. The long
golden pebble beach stretches into the Adriatic Sea like a hand
that reaches out. Due to the perfect winds and waves, it is the
favourite place of surfers and kite-surfers. The lack of sand and
seaweed on the beach make it also a perfect location for
snorkelling. Zlatni Rat beach brings fun to every one though:
either being active or just sitting in a beach chair and enjoying
the sunset behind the mountains with a glass of Croatian wine.
The beach can be reached by car or by foot from Bol (around 20
minutes), as well as by tourist trains and tourist boats during
summertime. For more information visit http://www.bol.hr/.
#03 Sakarun – Island of Dugi Otok. Sakarun beach is close to
the northern part of the Dalmatian island of Dugi Otok and with
its 800 metre long white sandy beach and crystal clear water
definitely worth a visit. Among families, Sakarun is very popular
because of its shallow water which makes the bathing area very
suitable even for small children. Behind the beach there is a pine
tree forest that completes the beautiful landscape with its dark
green colours offering shade on hot summer days. The
restaurants at the beach are famous for their delicious local food
and the cocktail bars perfectly accomplish the flair. Relax! And if
the sun gets too hot, go for a walk in the turquoise clear water or
just have a nice evening with great company at the local gourmet
hotspots. For more information about Dugi Otok and its
attractions visit http://www.dugiotok.hr/en.
#04 Vela plaža, Baška – Island of Krk. The Island of Krk is one
of Croatia tourism’s hotspots of Kvarner Bay’s islands. Gorgeous,
picturesque places, sandy and pebbly beaches, natural bays and
colorful landscapes – this is what the Island of Krk is famous for.
The town of Baška is located at the island’s southern coast and is
especially popular for Vela beach (Vela plaža), which was
awarded a Blue Flag as a symbol for offering quality and purity.
Vela beach is one of the favourite places for young people,
families, and kids. There are a lot of bars with music, restaurants
and places to relax and let yourself go. Action fans can also enjoy
several sport opportunities: pedal boats, beach volleyball, water
slides, and many other activities. The beach is almost two
kilometre long and the sandy parts are great for kids. Additional
information about Island of Krk and Baška are available at
http://www.krk.hr/en/the_island_of_Krk
#05 Lubenice – Island of Cres. The highlight of the Island of
Cres is the breath-taking beach located beneath the village of
Lubenice. The view of the white sandy beach on the steep cliff is
as taken from a picture-book. The beach is not easy to access, it
can be reached by foot from Lubenice or by boat only (tours are
available at the reception of Camp Slatina). The beach is a real
hidden gem as there are only a few swimmers usually. Enjoy the
nature, relax and take some time to breathe, and switch off the
hectic of the world. For more information about Cres and
Lubenice visit http://www.tzg-cres.hr/en/
#06 Rajska plaža, Lopar – Island of Rab. Rajska beach (Rajska
plaza) on the Island of Rab is – in fact – translated to “Paradise
Beach”. It extends for about two kilometres and is located at the
island’s northern part in Lopar. The white and sandy beache,
crystal clear and blue water, and green land spits that embrace
Rajska beach, as well as the high quality offers are reasons for
achieving the Blue Flag Award. Especially children and families
love the sandy beach, the shallow water, and the water slides that
are ideal for playing and having a lot of family fun. Cafés,
restaurants and bars provide Paradise beach with delicious local
food and drinks that foster the sense of paradise in the heart of
Croatia. To find out more about Rab, the Happy Island, visit
http://www.rab-visit.com/
#07 Saplunara Beach – Island of Mljet. The Island of Mljet is
the most rural island of Croatia and a natural diamond.
Saplunara Beach is located at the tip of the island. It extends for
about one kilometre and is surrounded by a dense pine tree
forest. The beach is divided in two parts, the large and the small
Saplunara. There are no hotels or restaurants at the beach, just
some small local hotspots with typical Croatian food, especially
offering meat and barbecued fish. There is no direct ferry to
Saplunara beach, just take a taxi or a bus from Sobra. Usually, it is
not so crowded and therefore perfect for people who want to
take a break and get away from the vibrant city life. Action and
sport fans can rent canoes or go snorkelling, kayaking, explore
the island by bicycle or take a nice hike. Visit Mljet tourist board
website for more information about this mystic island

#08 Kraljičina Plaža/Queen’s Beach – town of Nin. The beach
at Nin on Croatia’s Dalmatian coast is known as Kraljičina Plaža or
Queen’s Beach. It is a sandy beach with mountain views and it looks
like a lagoon with its’ shallow water, grassy dunes, and sandbars that
create sandy-floored tongues of land. The popular Dalmatian beach
is ideal for families and children because of the shallow waters and
warm temperatures. Spa and wellness treatments are also very easy
to find on Queen’s Beach, as well as sport activities like volleyball,
kiting, wind surfing, and badminton. Regional dishes are served at
numerous bars and restaurants along the beach. Away from large
traffic and crowds a lot of people come to Nin for camping and
enjoy the unspoiled place of nature. No wonder it is one of
European Best romantic destinations http://www.nin.hr/en

So, where is Nina
actually coming from?
Nina’s region, continental Croatia, is an oasis of tranquillity, with
gentle hills home to age-old forests, vineyards and the Sava,
Drava and Mura rivers sheltering the local towns from the
summer heat.A mere stone’s throw to the north and northeast of
capital Zagreb, the region is dotted with romantic medieval
towns such as Koprivnica or Varaždin, countryside manors such
as Trakošćan Castle and thermal spas perfect for restoring your
energies, leaving you revitalised and full of life.
Sisak Fortress
This well-preserved medieval fortress is an interesting memorial
to turbulent times, and is also attractive due to its appearance
and location on the banks of the Kupa and Sava rivers,
surrounded by wide meadows.
Lonjsko Polje Nature Park
The abundant waters brought by the River Sava down from the
Alps and the Dinaric Mountains flood the meadows and forests
of the Lonjsko Polje, creating excellent conditions for birds and
for the spawning of fish. This is also an area home to that rare
combination of unspoilt nature and traditional architecture.
