TYPO3 RELAUNCH
AOE recently set up a new TYPO3 website for MEDIMAX a German electronics
retailer. Through a centralized web infrastructure administrators in 110 stores
cam update content, simply and easily. The new site features a completely
searchable SAP-linked product catalogue and numerous special features.
The Challenge
MEDIMAX needed a website with a clear structure and well-defined access
management, that could be easily maintained by multiple decentral content
managers. Another important criterion was a modern search solution,
including a product comparison so users can quickly find their way in the
dealer’s rich assortment.
The Solution
AOE developed a multitree concept especially for the new web presence, with
a fallback option to the central site, administered by MEDIMAX’s headquarters.
The site branches into six regions and the individual stores, so that regional
merchandise managers can edit content from the central site for their regions,
while store managers can edit regional content for their own locations. Where
there is no location or regional content, the next highest page in the hierarchy
is shown.

Users can sort MEDIMAX products by categories, and filter them by criteria
like price or manufacturer. The product comparison makes it particularly easy
for users to find what they’re looking for. Each product has a checkbox. After
clicking two or more of them, users can launch a comparison that shows
a table of the product characteristics, dimensions and features. If desired,
the differences can be highlighted in colour. The entire product catalogue is
implemented on AOE’s Searchperience, a search solution based on Apache
SOLR that offers extensive flexibility going beyond classic search.

The Special Features
In addition to the multitree solution, the project features:
■■ The “MEDIMAXikon” media gallery, an extension for images and
videos including search with AJAX Auto-Complete.
■■ An own career portal, likewise implemented as a TYPO3 extension.
■■ Import and presentation of all product from SAP by XML webservice
with Searchperience.
■■ Products and page contents can be searched with Solr and shown in
a uniform format in the results list.
