The Epiphany of the Lord
PARTNERS IN THE PROMISE
As a society, during these days we can be in something of a “postpartum” depression. Our celebrations of Christmas and the New Year are over, and after today many of us will put away the decorations and the last visible remnants
of the celebrations of the past weeks. The apostle Paul today uses the expression “partners in the promise.” This is an
uplifting phrase for us to reflect upon, and to think of as our own calling in these days following the birth of the Lord.
What is this promise? We can find it in the gifts the magi bring: it is a promise of being a royal priesthood (gold), a
holy nation (frankincense), a people set apart for self-giving (myrrh). We find more of the promise in Isaiah—a light
shines upon us! In the psalm we know a promise of a world of flowering justice, profound peace, the poor rescued, pity for the lowly and the poor. This is the promise; and one of the best ways for us to lift ourselves out of
any possible low spirits we may be suffering is to live out our partnership in this promise each and every day.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Rachel’s Vineyard Weekend Retreat
(for healing after abortion)
Rachel’s Vineyard is a safe place to renew, rebuild and
redeem hearts broken by abortion. Weekend retreats offer
a supportive, confidential and non-judgmental environment.
Rachel’s Vineyard facilitates an experience of God’s compassion on a profound level. It creates a place where you
can share, often for the first time, your deepest feeling
about abortion. Troubling secrets are allowed to be dismantled in an environment of emotional healing and spirituality.
Rachel’s Vineyard is therapy for the soul. Participants who
have been trapped in anger toward themselves or others,
experience forgiveness. Peace is found. Lives are restored.
A sense of hope is rediscovered.

Gospel Reading for the Epiphany of the Lord
Matthew 2:1-12
Family Reflection: What gifts can you and your family give to Jesus Christ in this New Year?
The Wooden Manger by St. Jerome (342-420)…A New Year Reflection
We thought we were honoring Christ when we took away the wooden manger
and gave him a silver one instead. But as far as I am concerned, the one
taken away is the more valuable one. We’ll leave the silver and gold to the
pagans; a wooden manger is more becoming to the Christian faith. It’s the
very one who was born in this stable, who condemns gold and silver. I don’t
mean to condemn those who have done this to pay him honor, any more
than I condemn those who used to cast golden vessels for the Temple. But I
do admire the Lord, Creator of the world, who chose to be born for us not
surrounded by gold and silver, but a patch of earth.
R.E. office will be closed from December 22 – January 11.
Students return on Monday, January 12th at 4PM.

From the Prayer of the Archdiocese for Military Services
Almighty God and Father, look with love upon our men and women in uniform and protect them in their time of need. Give
them health and stability and allow them to return to their loved ones whole and unshaken. Be with their families and
sustain them in these uncertain times. Hear us as we present our prayers to You through Christ our Lord.
Each Sunday morning after the 7:30 and 9am Masses,
join us in the plaza for coffee, juice, and goodies. This is a
great way to meet your parish family and make new
friends. We look forward to seeing you there!
Keep our own seminarians, John Nestico and
Richard Lee in your prayers.
The Santa Clarita Vocation Discernment Group

discuss, seek guidance, and support while
discovering if God is calling him to become a priest.
For more information please contact Marvin at

You are invited to join with the
Santa Clarita Grandmothers (and others) for Peace as we hold our monthly
