Notes from our Pastor….
Tickets for the ANNUAL SPRING RAFFLE at Holy Name of Jesus were mailed to all parishioners on the
parish mailing list. There will be FOUR weekly drawings – each weekly winner will receive $750. The winning
ticket will be returned to container, so the sooner you get your tickets in, the more chances you’ll have to win a
prize. Chances are $10 each, 6 for $50 and 12 for $100. Please consider asking family members and friends to
buy some chances.
Are you a golfer? The KCA at Holy Name of Jesus is sponsoring a GOLF OUTING this Sunday, June 5th at the
Rock Hill Country Club in Manorville, Long Island. Cost for an Individual golfer is $120 which includes golf and
dinner. You can still register after Mass this weekend. See Father Bauhoff for more details.
PLEASE mark your calendars and plan to attend the FIRST MASS to be celebrated by Father Jiha Lim on
SUNDAY, JUNE 26, 2016 at Holy Name of Jesus of Church. Bishop Murphy ordained Jiha a Deacon last
November, and on Saturday, June 25th, 2016, he will ordain him as a Priest for the Diocese of Rockville Centre at
St. Agnes Cathedral.
For the past several years, we have anticipated Jiha’s ordination -- you may remember him introducing
himself and speaking at one or two of the Saturday or Sunday Masses over the past three years. Congratulations
and many, many blessings to Jiha, his parents and family. What a wonderful blessing for our Diocese and OUR
PARISH. At Holy Name of Jesus, we always look for opportunities to celebrate as a parish family – the fiftieth
anniversary of HNJ, the campaign to refurbish the Church, the rededication Mass in January, a couple of
barbeques and other social gatherings. Please plan now to join in celebration with Jiha, his parents, his family and
friends and the parish family of HNJ. Jiha’s First Mass will be celebrated at Noon with a parish reception to
follow. Additional information will be available in the future.
Please mark your calendars for other events in the near future: a Parish Blood Drive in July and the
Diocesan Pilgrimage in September during the Year of Mercy to the National Shrine of Our Lady of the
Immaculate Conception.
2016 Catholic Ministries Appeal — One Faith, Family and Community
The 2016 Catholic Ministries Appeal (CMA) in underway and I ask all parishioners to please consider giving a gift or making
gift to help the people on Long Island. We’ve reached 82 % of our parish goal. Many thanks to those who made pledges and
given gifts.
God has blessed us with many gifts and as God’s stewards, we show our love for Him by serving others through the gifts we give to
the CMA. Remember, no gift is too small, and every gift makes a difference.
Please use the form below and return it to the Rectory via the collection basket and we will forward it for you to the CMA office.

1Kings 17:17-24
Galatians 1:11-19
Luke 7:11-17
FOCUS: We give thanks to the Lord for the gift of
life. Life is a precious gift from God. With that gift comes
the obligation to use what we have been given for the
betterment of ourselves and others. To waste the talents
that are uniquely ours is a loss a that can never be
recovered. We can praise the Lord with who we are and
all that we are.

TENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
1 Kgs 17:17–24 / Gal 1:11–19 / Lk 7:11–17
My father died when I was eighteen. For a long time I clung to the Lord in my pain. For a longer
time, I was angry and often wondered where God was. I looked for answers in vain. For those of us
who have watched someone die, today’s readings may seem unrealistic. Elijah
the prophet stretches himself out on a dead child and calls on God to restore his
life. The child lives. Jesus stops a funeral procession and bids the dead son of a
widow to get up. He does so. “Where was God,” we might ask, “when my
[father, wife, child, or friend] died and left me to mourn?”
The truth is, God was and is there. In God, we have the hope of eternal
life. Moreover, the faithful departed remain present to the living through the
communion of saints, the stories and memories we hold and share, and in my
case, the care I received from those who became a bit like fathers to me when I needed it most. Through
God’s grace, I am now more compassionate and caring toward those who have suffered loss. I will not
fool you: forty-five years later, I still miss my father and wish my children could have known him. But
in the Gospels, we hear the truth. God offers to all who believe and follow him the gift of resurrection
at the end of our earthly lives and brings us new life even in the midst of death and suffering. This new
life is the hope and joy of our faith, even if it takes us a little while to realize it.
