MESSAGE FROM
Mars/Avril 2011

THE PRESIDENT
co-sponsored by the Alliance Française
M. Silvia Bettega, Ed.D.
Café de Paris: Thursday, March 3, 5:00-8:00 pm
Live French cabaret music, tour, wine and cheese tasting, cash bar,
Salut tout le monde. It has been a winter horribilis
from the weather viewpoint but spring is right
around the corner or so we hope.
and film, “La Vie en Rose” at 8:00 pm in Aetna Theater.
$5/Free for Members of Atheneum. 50 tickets available free to members of the Alliance.
I would like to thank all those who supported the
Alliance Française de Hartford by venturing outside
to participate in our programs regardless of the
inclement weather. We work very hard organizing
events and it gives us great pleasure to see our
members and get their feedback and their ideas for
future events. Kudos to the Events Committee,
Harriett Canty, Sharon Straka, and MarieDominique Boyce, President of the Alliance Française de New Haven for a job well done.
There are a couple of initiatives that I would like to
underscore for you today. Danna Bucin and her
committee are going forward organizing networking
meetings for young professionals working in
French companies with subsidiaries in Connecticut. Stay tuned.
Under Alice Napolitano’s leadership, the AFH
school has implemented a new format for the Current Events class that will focus on the francophone community and will include listening to extracts of radio and TV newscasts.
After a hiatus of two years, the Robert McFarland
Book Award is coming back. Linda Zabor, our representative before the Connecticut Council of Language Teachers (COLT), has started to organize
this prestigious award. As you may know, the book
award recognizes achievement in the French language by annually providing student book awards
to middle and high school students from the
Greater Hartford area. Thank you, Linda.
The Annual meeting is almost upon us. This year it
will be held at the gallery at the beautiful City Arts
on Pearl building on May 15. Not unlike previous
years, during the meeting, we will present the 2011
-2012 slate of Board of Directors. If you are a
member of the Alliance and you feel that you have
the time and the will to help in a more involved
capacity, please let me know.
RSVP to Sharon Straka at [email protected]
