Children learn through being actively engaged in
their environment where new and varied handson experiences cause them to stop and question
what they know. Our curriculum includes:
 Circle Time - includes calendars, sharing time,
intro to letters, letter sounds, numbers &
problem solving
 Group Games - promote problem solving &
moral development as children try to apply the
rules to conflicts that arise during play
 Gym/Outside Play - promotes physical
development
 Shared Family Style Meals - encourage
manners, discussion about healthy eating and
interaction
 Small Group Activities - give children time to
explore new skills
 Kindergarten Readiness - uses the “Creative
Curriculum Program” to foster a love of
learning and prepare children for Kindergarten,
incorporating the “Handwriting Without Tears”
series.
Certified teachers guide large and small group
interaction as well as encourage children to
explore independently. Teachers observe, offer
support, and gauge skill levels to determine when
to introduce new experiences. Swim days are
scheduled on the calendar.
The YWCA Children’s Center serves
the community by
providing quality preschool and
childcare programs where children are
encouraged and given opportunities to
develop physically, socially,
emotionally and intellectually in a safe,
loving environment.
We are proud of our State of Iowa
Quality Rating System ratings of 3 & 4,
reflecting our commitment to the
highest quality childcare!

2015 will bring many changes to
the YWCA-Clinton; one of which
is the closing of our Emergency
Shelter and shelter-based
Transitional Housing programs
effective June 2015. While we
are saddened to see these
programs close, we are also
heartened by our plans to expand both our Rapid
Rehousing and our scattered-site Transitional Housing
programs.
We have been working diligently to plan for a
sustainable future for our Crisis Services program.
The State of Iowa Attorney General’s decision to
regionalize victim services has left our shelter-based
services in a very vulnerable position. And, as hard as
we have all worked to raise funds in response to the
state’s decision, we simply cannot replace a $250,000
cut in funding with local giving, each and every year
going forward.
The generosity of our donors has made it possible for
us to continue serving our community in the face of
this $250,000 cut in state funding. In fact, we have
been operating our Emergency Shelter solely with
local donations since July 2014. We have, however,
determined that this level of local giving is not
sustainable in the long term. Knowing this, the YWCA
Board of Directors made the difficult decision to close
our Emergency Shelter and shelter-based Transitional
Housing programs on June 30, 2015. SafePath
Survivor Resources has been operating in the
community as the state-funded provider of shelter-
A very
special
supporter
of the YWCA, Marilyn Deegan,
recently purchased a new car and
donated her gently used car to the
YWCA. The new owner of this
vehicle is a participant in our
Transitional Housing Program.

Housing Coordinator holding the title
to the vehicle. This is the 2nd vehicle

families! We thank you, Marilyn!
based sexual assault & domestic
violence services since July 2014
and can be reached at
866-921-3354.
On a positive note, because of
new government funding options, we will be expanding
our Rapid Rehousing and scattered-site Transitional
Housing programs to be able to serve more people in
need. These two housing programs serve men,
women and children in our community who are victims
of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and
homelessness. In addition, we will now be able to
expand our services to include entire families who are
experiencing homelessness which is a very real
problem in our community.
Community support for our local YWCA is still very
much needed and appreciated. We will continue to
need donations of food, toiletries, gift cards, gas cards,
and with our expanding housing programs, we will rely
on local donations to support the case management
services we provide, to pay for child care as our clients
seek employment or further their education, and to
cover the myriad costs and needs involved in starting
over in a new home. We truly appreciate the heartfelt
support our community has shown us over the years.
And, as always, we remain committed to the wellbeing
and safety of survivors and will continue to advocate
for the rights of victims.
Thank you for your support!
