MBREDC CHAIRMAN

PRESIDENT & CEO
2015 was another good year for the Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation
I began my role as the President & CEO for the Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development
companies represent the technology and manufacturing industries, adding 121 new, committed jobs
are available in Horry County. We are blessed to have a host of economic development partners from
(MBREDC). We announced Star Life Safety, Little Spider Creations and Worksman Cycles. These new
and $5.51 million in capital investment in Horry County.
This year we also celebrated the ribbon cutting of Laudisi Enterprises’ new 30,000-square-foot facility
in Longs. The company announced their expansion in 2014 after a decade of doing business in Horry
County. The expansion resulted in the creation of 40 new jobs for the company.
In September, Accent Stainless Steel broke ground on its new American headquarters. The Canadian company’s $3.1 million investment will create 65 new, high-skilled manufacturing jobs in its new
50,000-square-foot facility located at the Loris Commerce Park.
With the leadership and guidance of our Board of Directors, the support of Horry County Council and all
of our investors, we have placed Horry County on the economic development map.
While South Carolina has quickly become one of the most business-friendly states in the U.S., Horry
County continues to top the list for locations that businesses are eyeing within the Palmetto State. The
quality of life, business environment and cost of doing business are among many things that set Horry
Corporation (MBREDC) in November 2015 and I am excited about the limitless opportunities that
every sector. We have incredible education partners through Horry County Schools, Horry Georgetown
Technical College, and Coastal Carolina University. We have engaged and dedicated private developers,
utilities, and existing businesses and industries. We have committed public sector partners. We have a
great workforce, quality of life and too many other resources to name. Because of these assets, partners
and their accomplishments, the MBREDC is on a path of continued success.
While 2015 was a year of transition for the MBREDC, tremendous strides were made in our economic
development initiatives. The leadership and dedication of the MBREDC Board of Directors, public and
private sector investors, and particularly the MBREDC staff continued to move Horry County forward, result-
ing in announcements from great companies like Worksman Cycles, Little Spider and Star Life Safety. Special
thanks need to be given to Fred Richardson for stepping in as the Interim President & CEO for the MBREDC
during the organization’s transition periods. His dedication to economic development for all of Horry County
is inspiring and I, along with the entire MBREDC Board of Directors, thank him for his service and leadership.
As we move forward to 2016, the MBREDC will focus on expanding our relationships with our existing

Josh has a strong background in economic development and public administration. Under Josh’s lead-
ership the MBREDC will continue to aggressively recruit industries looking to expand or relocate their
businesses. We have a full pipeline and we expect to be making some major announcements in 2016.
So, I am excited about the possibilities for next year. With the talents of our new President and his staff,
the commitment and dedication of our Board of Directors, and the support of our investors and partners,
we have all the components in place to make 2016 a great year for job creation in Horry County.
nization’s success. Our external marketing will focus on businesses within our target markets: aerospace,
efforts to be sustainable, we will work diligently to increase financial support from current and prospective
investors, while providing a measurable return on their investment with the MBREDC.
My favorite coach is Duke Men’s Basketball Coach Mike Krzyzewski. He once said, “There are five
fundamental qualities that make every team great: communication, trust, collective responsibility, caring
and pride. I like to think of each as a separate finger on the fist. Any one individually is important. But
all of them together are unbeatable.” Economic development is a team sport and with these values and
partners like you, we will be unbeatable!

“
While visiting family and traveling back and forth from
New York to South Carolina, I envisioned coming back
home to my family and giving my children a better way
of life by relocating to the South,” said Jon Cook, one
of the company’s two principle partners. “I always
believed that there is opportunity here, based upon
the economic growth of the area, to implement the
latest technology, which would in turn save money
within facilities, as well as protect people’s lives.
“
We decided to relocate Little Spider Creations to the
Myrtle Beach area because the location offers us easy
access to current and potential new customers, as well
as the ability to tap into new creative talent,” said Marc
Brawner, President & CEO of Little Spider Creations.
“We are excited about this opportunity and the strategic
growth that it will provide for our company.

Worksman chose Horry County following a comprehensive
two-year search in which the company’s executives visited
more than 20 proposed sites in seven states.
“
The choice of Horry County was easy, as it stood head
and shoulders above every other location we visited,”
stated Wayne Sosin, President of Worksman Cycles.
“It was the friendly business environment of South
Carolina, with its great access to sea, rail and highway transportation, as well as low-cost energy and
the climate that will ease the strain that Northeast
winters placed on our operation. And finally the quality
of life for our workers, with affordable housing options,
