Chetwood Scores In Cameron Handicap
Lightly raced four-year-old Chetwood (Exceed And Excel) has
continued his rich vein of form, securing a third consecutive win this
preparation when making all in the Cameron Handicap (Gr 3, 1350m)
yesterday.
The John O’Shea-trained gelding, a debut winner in February before
progressing to a third placing in the Gosford Guineas (Listed, 1200m)
prior to a spell, has returned with victories at Canterbury, Rosehill and
now the Beaumont circuit at Newcastle.
Ridden by Tim Clark, Chetwood ($2.75) slowly worked across from
the outside barrier in the eight-horse field to cross to the lead and was
never in danger of defeat, pulling clear to win by a length and a half.
Group One winner Le Romain (Hard Spun) ran on to grab second, with
veteran Famous Seamus (Elusive City) a long neck away in third place.
O’Shea’s assistant trainer Darren Beadman said Chetwood was
a free-going horse who appreciated being allowed to lead, as he has
successfully in three starts this campaign.

Racing Australia And TBA Reach
Agreement And Amend Rules
T
Jack Keene
@anz_news
he new regulations introduced last
month by Racing Australia, which
brought breeders under the Rules
of Racing for the first time, have
been amended following discussions with
Thoroughbred Breeders Australia (TBA).
As part of the new Rules, which were
implemented on 1 August, foal owners are
required to register mare returns within 30
days with both the Australian Stud Book and
Racing Australia’s Registrar of Racehorses.
TBA have opposed the new rules, stating
that a lack of representation from the breeding
industry has led to Racing Australia gaining
greater controls.
As a result of the recent discussions,
Racing Australia made alterations to clarify
the extent to which the Rules of Racing would
affect breeders and owners.
Under the Rules, Stewards will only
have access to studs and farms to test for
anabolic androgenic steroids in young horses,
prohibited substances in racehorses and to
monitor the general health and welfare of
horses.
Racing Australia also moved to clarify that
