From October
14th to 22nd, twenty
three of our very own
Eagles traveled across
the pond with our
Model United Nations
program. These twenty
three students attended
the 29th annual Royal
Russell Model United
Nations Conference
and the equally
amazing Ms. Fleming,
accompanied these
students on the trip of a
lifetime.
At the
conference, the
students debated
world issues over a
course of four days
with delegates from
around the world.
They addressed
economic, political and
social topics of the
international community
and discussed policies
with their fellow
delegates for hours on
end. The presented
resolutions, caucused
about global policies,
lobbied for their ideas,
and even spoke in the
GA in front over 300
people! Representing
the countries of Austria,
Barbados, Belarus,
Gabon, and Yemen,
they made us proud.
Kierstyn Suda thought,
“The conference was
fun, but it was difficult.
Overall, I learned a lot
the delegate dances.
These discos were
clearly a lot of fun for all
the delegates, and they
all met a lot of nice and
very friendly people.
What a great way to
have some fun after
hours of debate!
After a long but
rewarding four days
the conference was
over and our SMeagles
headed to London to
tour for the remainder
of the trip. They visited
landmarks such as
the Tower of London,
St. Paul’s Cathedral,
Buckingham Palace,
the British Museum,
Westminster Abbey and

took London by storm,
sightseeing all across
the area. Two of the
best teachers on
campus, the always
lovely Mr. Remmell

Starting in August
of 2001, Father Greg
Boyle began a mission
to bring rest to the
violence in Los Angeles.
He accomplished his
goal in establishing
Homeboy Industries. In
just a few years’ time,
Father Greg Boyle
presented an answer
to over 1,100 gang
members – to start over.
Homeboy Industries
educates its workers
on job skills that would
assist them in obtaining
permanent employment.
In addition, Homeboy
Industries provides
a base education
for people who have
financial hindrances.
This year Homeboy
Industries plans to
celebrate their 20th
year anniversary. For
twenty years, this nonprofit organization has
been the light to what
seemed a never-ending
tunnel of darkness
for many people. But
other than the man
who established the
organization, who is
Father Greg Boyle?
He was born one of
eight in Los Angeles,
California. He worked
hard as a young boy
alongside his brothers
and sisters and
graduated Loyola High
School in Los Angeles
in 1972. Twelve years
passed, and in 1984,
Father Greg Boyle
was ordained a Jesuit
priest. Some of his
scholarly include a
Bachelor’s degree in

even the Millenium

Potter. Zach Mastrovich
said, “It was such an
awesome experience
going 600 miles away
from everyone to be
with twenty two of
your friends all day,
every day.” Full of
many memorable
experiences, this
really was the trip of a
lifetime for the students.

recalled that, “Mr.
Remmell almost got hit
by a bus three times!”
Well thank God he
didn’t! Over the course
of nine days, they
shared many laughs,
smiles and memories
they will cherish
forever. Job well done

NEW BOYs IN TOWN
English at Gonzaga; a
Master’s degree in English
at Loyola Marymount
University, a Master of
Divinity from the Weston
School of Theology, and a
Sacred Theology Masters
degree from the Jesuit
School of Theology. The
first program he started
was called “Jobs of the
Future.” This program
was created in order to
address the escalating
problems and unmet
needs of gang-involved
youth. Through this
program, an elementary
school and a daycare
program was established.
The first business that
Father Greg initiated
was Homeboy Bakery –
“a mission to create an
environment that provided
training, work experience,

and above all, the
opportunity for rival
gang members to work
side by side.” Moreover,
Father Greg has started
other businesses
to help the cause
such as: Homeboy
Silkscreen, Homeboy
Maintenance, Homeboy/
HomegirlMerchandise,
and HomegirlCafé.
Father Greg
Boyle has been
recognized for his
philanthropic acts and
given numerous awards.
Some of these include
the California Peace
Prize, the “Humanitarian
of the Year” Award,
and the Most Caring
People Award as well
as the 2008 Civic Medal
of Honor from the Los
Angeles Chamber of
Commerce.
Santa Margarita
Catholic High School
welcomes Father Greg
Boyle on November
11, 2010 to discuss
Homeboy Industries and
its mission. In addition,
he will have a book
signing of his renowned
book Tattoos on the
Heart. Save the date,

Live Drug Free!

Ever wonder
what those red bracelets
that everyone gets at
the end of October
actually represent? They
stand for a week that is
dedicated to living drug
free lives and making
America drug free. Red
Ribbon Week began in
1988 and is celebrated in
memory of DEA Special
Agent Enrique “Kiki”
Camarena, who died
due to drug traffickers
in Mexico. Since then,
Camarena’s friends and
family have worn red
badges and ribbons to
promote drug-free lives.
This story has touched
many people’s lives and
has now inspired the
oldest and largest drugfree campaign all across
America.
During Red
Ribbon Week, schools,
businesses, the media,
and communities
all join together to
publicize the value of
staying drug-free. This
is done through essay
and writing contests,
drug-free races, red
decorations, and of
course red bracelets
and ribbons. Dressing
in red shows people in
the community that it
is important to reduce
the use of illegal drugs
in America. Another
main factor of Red
Ribbon Week is the
“Walk against Drugs”
that takes place in cities
around the world. Many
communities come
together and dress
in red to teach young
children to say no to
drugs, which increases
their awareness of the
drug problem.
For Santa Margarita,
Red Ribbon Week has
been happening this
past week. On Tuesday
we “Socked it to Drugs”
with our crazy socks.
On Wednesday we
“Just said No” with
our red bracelets and
other red attire. By the
way, the bracelets we
received can be used to
get discounts at places
like Burger King and
7 Eleven. Thursday,
we all got sunglasses
to “Shade out Drugs”
from our lives. Today,
we are all saying “Boo”
to drugs and scaring
them away with our
Halloween clothes.
Red Ribbon Week has
been very successful
this year and the Santa
Margarita community
has really gotten
involved. Congrats SM!

Choc Walk

The CHOC walk
is back again! The 20th
annual walk was held
on October 17th at the
Disneyland Resort. With
a little rain to get us
motivated, we started
the walk at 7:00 am. The
walk went through both
parks: Disneyland and
California Adventures.
Since the Disneyland
Resort is the happiest
place on Earth, all of
the Disney characters
were there to cheer us
on through the walk.
The distance was a 5k,
which means we walked
3.1 miles! The walk
ended around 8:30 am.
Over 100 members of
the Eagles for CHOC
club at Santa Margarita
participated in the walk.
Our club goal
was to raise $10,000 for
this year’s CHOC walk.
We accomplished that
goal and more by raising
$11,200. The money
we raised helps support
the care, services,
education, and research
at the CHOC hospitals.
Over 15,000 people
participated in this walk,
ending with a result
of $1,453,265 in total
donations.
Although this walk
was bright and early on
a Saturday, everyone
put on a smile and was
ready to walk for CHOC!
The walk was a great
place to have fun with
your friends, while at
the same time working
towards a great cause.
After the CHOC walk,
Senior Maddy Skyes
said “I loved it! It was
a great way to make
a difference and help
others, while walking
around Disneyland with
friends!” President of
the Eagles for CHOC
club, Kathryn Conner,
said “This has been a
great year for Eagles
for CHOC. It’s the most
money we have ever
raised in the club history.
Everyone in the club
was enthusiastic about
walking for such a great
cause, like the children
at CHOC!”
Congratulations
on a great walk this
year Eagles! We
accomplished our goal
and even exceeded it
by $1,200. Be ready to
walk again next year and
join Eagles for CHOC
because it’s tons of fun
and the money goes to a
great cause!

Top 5 Ways People were Asked to Homecoming

As we all know,
it’s the time of year
where seasons are
changing and fall and
Halloween are also on
the way. This means
that homecoming has
just passed and Santa
Margarita boys have
tried their best to find
and impress their dates.
Boys, listen up; it is not
as easy as it used to be!
Girls are expecting more
than just a phone call or
Facebook message, they
want something new and
different! Although some
lack creative ideas, other
Santa Margarita boys
know exactly what to do
and have gone out of
their way to do it. This
year in particular, SM
boys started early and
made sure to ask their
dates to homecoming in
impressive ways.
1. Braxton Luke, a
junior, sang his own
song while strumming
a ukulele on ETV. At
the end of the song
he publically asked
Jessica Hickey to
accompany him to
Homecoming. What
a lady’s man!
2. Kyle Eckert, a senior,
bought hundreds
of post-it notes and
stuck them one by
one on senior Sarah
Pollard’s car. He then
waited anxiously until
she arrived. When
Sarah got to her car
he gave her flowers
and asked, "Will
you stick with me at
Homecoming?"Awe,
how creative Kyle!

Sam Trenary. He
bought four balloons
and put them on
her driveway. Each
balloon had a word
on it saying, "Will
you go to…" As
Sam sprinted up her
driveway reading
these words she saw
a huge balloon on
her doorstep. She
popped the balloon
like the directions
instructed, and out
fluttered a little note.
She unfolded the
note and it read
"Homecoming?" She
put the two sayings
together and was
overjoyed that Cade
had asked her in
such a special way!
Aren’t they just the
cutest couple?
4. Nick Bock, a senior,
dressed up in a
mermaid costume
and hid under a trash
bag in his science
class. His girlfriend,
senior, Ashlyn Vidal,
was told that her
class was doing a
dissection on a huge
fish in the other lab.
When she and her
classmates arrived,
Nick jumped out of
from under the bag.
She had no clue
and was completely
shocked. He gave her
flowers and a poster
that read, "Next week
is Homecoming, can’t
you sea? And I would
love it if you came
with a mermaid as
pretty as me!" How
clever!
5. Jeff Baumgardner,
a sophomore, had
ten of his water
polo teammates
spell out the word
"Homecoming" on
their chest with Zinc.
Jeff was the question
mark at the end and
was holding flowers.
Lauren Schwab’s
friends were in on
the plan and got her
to walk by the pool
deck. She saw all the
boys and Jeff at the
end and could not
have been happier.

The ladies of
homecoming 2010
showed off dresses of
every kind and color. Our
sophomore class was
thrilled to be a part of the
homecoming dance this
year and they showed
it by what they wore.
Sophomore, Taylor Walsh
found an original dress
that no one else had.
It was borrowed from
her sister’s friend, Kara
Kane. The champagne
colored dress looked
perfect with her skin
tone. The right lengths
of dresses are hard to
find these days, but
Taylor found one with the
perfect fit. It was classy, it
was chic, and it was bold.
It had an elegantly woven
flower at the neckline
which formed the halter
straps to her gown.
From the flower, chic
and champagne- colored
material flowed down
to the top of her knee.
Although Taylor’s dress
was simple, it really
stood out amongst those
her peers wore.

The store is filled with
stunning clothes and has

skin a natural glow. It
was fitted to her frame
and worked its way up
to form an intricately
woven design in the
back which gave the
dress even more “wow”!

December 13, 1989. She
started a phenomenon
by capturing many girls’

country-pop mixes.

You by Gyptian. Windel
Beneto Edwards was
born on October 25,
1983 in St. Edwards,
Jamaica. He began
his singing career in
his local church choir.
Soon after a record
producer heard him and
immediately became
interested. Now he is
known as Gyptian and

song in Jamaica.

Kingdom is Just the

Mars. Bruno Mars’ real
name is Peter Gene
Hernandez. He was

The Golden Age of Hip-Hop

Today, many people
around the world use
music as a creative
outlet. Independent artists
express themselves
through many different
genres, but they just
don’t always get the
gratification that they
deserve.
A genre that this
tends to happen in a lot
in is Hip Hop/Rap, with
many struggling artists
trying to make it past
mainstream, lyrically
handicapped artists.
This is saddening,
because independent
and unknown artists
usually have deep
lyrical meanings with
references to life, soul,
and rhymes, amounting
to more than just money
and women. Artists like
Asher Roth, Atmosphere,
Gangstarr, DJ Shadow,
Jurassic 5, Wale, The
Cool Kids, K’Naan,
Charles Hamilton, Lupe
Fiasco, Soul Position,
and RJD2 have all had
philosophical points to
their phat rhymes and
beats! Not all popular
and mainstream hip hop
artists are bad, and this
isn’t just to say that all
unknown artists are the
best (because some are
evidently not), but to find
artists with meaning like
Eminem you just have
to search more. Songs
like “Moment of Truth”
by Gangstarr talk about
philosophical parts of
life, while mixing it into
a funky fresh beat and
rhyming it all together
like there’s no tomorrow.
The “Golden Age
of Hip Hop” helped to
put a fresh, creative
face on the genre. This
golden age occurred in
the late 80’s, and the
90’s only further defined
how music is made
today. Artists like The
Beastie Boys, A Tribe
Called Quest, Notorious
B.I.G., Gangstarr, Run
DMC, Tupac, and many
more were involved in
this monumental era. All
these artists just try to
show the real aspects
of life and that people
who go through hard
times, and that we’re not
alone! That it’s not about
fam
e and fortune, but more
just trying to relate to
people with rhymes
about life and happiness!
Golden, independent,
and unknown artists
have a lot to offer. While
the mainstream artists
create some good vibes,
these musicians show
the true side of Hip Hop.
Go give it a listen, and
prepare your ears for the
best sounds they’ve ever
heard.

Waka Waka,
once you hear those
words there is no way to
stop the flow of the lyrics
from infiltrating your
head. The popular song
by Shakira featuring
the South African
band Freshlyground
has swept the Santa
Margarita campus. Many
teachers have been
using the song in their
classrooms to represent
how much Spanish is
present in our everyday
lives. Not only that, but
in pop culture, the song
has its own special
meaning as well. Waka
Waka was chosen to
represent the World
Cup 2010 in Africa. The
song supported Africa in
their endeavors to host
the men’s FIFA world
Cup. “I am honored
that ‘Waka Waka (This
Time for Africa)’ was
chosen to be part of
the excitement and
the legacy of the 2010
FIFA World Cup,” said
Shakira.The song was
chosen to be performed
at the World Cup KickOff and at the Closing
Ceremony. Waka Waka
made history, as it was
the first Indian song to
be used as a signature
song for an event of this
magnitude. The basic
meaning of Waka Waka
is to keep on going in
whatever you are doing,
so it fits perfectly for the
FIFA World Cup 2010.
The lyrics speak of
how you have to keep
going and make the
best of the situation.
Next time you hear
the impenetrable beat,
think about Shakira’s
accomplishments and
how it inspires so many

Haunted Hotel Nearby

Have you ever
contemplated that the
noises and creeks
you hear in hotels are
actually haunted ghosts?
Typically, right after see
a scary movie you get
scared of every noise
you hear, but we never
think about what those
noises actually are the
rest of the time. It is
rumored that Hotel del
Coronado in downtown
San Diego the hotel is
actually haunted. This
hotel is known for one
of the country’s most
famous ghosts, which
they call “the beautiful
stranger.” She and her
husband would take
trains into town and
pretend that they were
brother and sister. She
would attract rich men
and get them to play
cards with her husband,
and the men would lose
all their money to him.
One day, she checked
into Hotel del Coronado
and her husband was
supposed to meet her
there and he never
showed up. She then
purchased a gun and
was found dead on the
beach. Some say it was
a suicide, and others
think her husband came
back and shot her. Her
room was 3502, and it
is now one of the most
famous rooms in the
hotel.
Many people
request to stay in the
room to see if “the
beautiful stranger” will
reappear and give
them a scare. People
that stayed there have
rumored that there have
been many different
occasions where they
feel uneasy and a
strange presence in the
room. Some of these
rumors are the lights
flickering on and off, the
plumbing making loud
noises, and even the
bed shaking. Some of
the people who have
dared to stay in the
room did not make it
out alive. There is a
story of a little girl who
stayed in the room and
got very ill, then later
died. There have been
other rumors of the staff
finding bodies in the
room and then burying
them under the pool.
So, we will never really
know if these ghosts
haunt this hotel, but
there have been many
occasions of people
who feel their presence.

can feel “the beautiful
strangers” presence.
The Scary Truth about G3

A couple of
years ago there were
rumors about clawing
and screeching noises
coming from the top
of the G building.
A few weeks ago,
someone reported
that they heard that
same noise from
G3. The story starts
back in 2000 when a
freshman named Jeff
was kidnapped while
at school. A police
investigation was filed,
but only went on for a
couple weeks because
the police said they
found his body. They
believed that he was
locked in an attic above
G3. Now this might
seem crazy, but the
police never found
his body or any lead
as to what happen to
him. A couple students
claimed that another
student kidnapped him
during lunch, took him
to the top of G3, and
locked him there. No
one could ever figure
out why Jeff was
kidnapped or if he
even was kidnapped.
Many people agree
that there seems
to be screaming,
clawing, and other
strange noises
coming from the top
of that building. If you
stay late after school
you can hear eerie
scratching noises.
Even after ten years,
no one knows what
that sound is or
why it hasn’t been
discovered. The
possibility that there are
rats or rodents living
up there has been
suggested. But can rats
really scream and create
bone chilling noises?
Maybe it is Jeff himself
or his ghost that still
haunts our campus to
this day. Maybe, just
maybe, there is a ghost
that haunts our school
and walks our halls to
this day. And maybe
that ghost is Jeff the
Forever Freshman.
Before you start skipping
all your classes on G3,
remember that this story
is just an urban legend.

History of Halloween

Many people
don’t know the facts of
how Halloween began.
Halloween originated
from the Celtic festival
of Samhain and the
Christian holiday. All
Saints’ Day. The purpose
of the festival of Samhain
is to celebrate the end of
the “light” half of the year
and the start of the “dark”
half.
It is also known
as the “Celtic New Year.”
The Celts believe that the
border of our world and
the border of the spiritual
world become small,
which allowed both good
and bad spirits to enter
our world. They believed
that it was necessary
to wear costumes and
masks to ward off the
bad spirits, which caused
crop damage. The Celts
believed that light would
keep away evil spirits so
they carved out squash
and other vegetables
while placing a candle
in it to attract the good
spirits. In the United
States, the lanterns were
carved using pumpkins
and became known as
“Jack O’Lanterns.
The name
“Halloween” was first
addressed in the
sixteenth century and
refers to All Hallows
Evening. When
European immigrants
traveled to America, they
brought the customs
of Halloween along.
Because Protestant
belief systems were
very significant to New
England, the celebration
of Halloween was
extremely limited. In
the southern colonies,
Halloween was much
more popular. Some of
the earliest celebrations
were public events that
celebrated the harvest,
telling stories of the
dead, dancing, and
singing songs. Another
main festivity was
mischief of all different
kinds. By the middle of
the nineteenth century,
Halloween was common,
but not celebrated in all
places in the country.
The most popular
festivity of Halloween
today is trick or treating.
“Soul Cakes” were given
to the poor, and in return,
the poor would offer a
prayer for the dead. In
some areas, the poor
and their children would
go “souling” which was
going to the homes of
wealthier people and
asking for soul cakes,
fruit, and alms (money or
goods given as charity to
the poor).
Today, Halloween
is an annual celebration
that takes place in all
parts of America and is
celebrated in many other
countries across the

Who doesn’t look
forward to the night
of Halloween? We all
dress up, hang out with
friends, eat candy, and
of course get scared!
Many of us celebrate
Halloween, but aren’t
fully aware of Day of the
Dead, a Mexican holiday,
has been celebrated for
thousands of years. In Mexico, people
celebrate Day of the
Dead, also known as
Los Días de los Muertos,
which is traditionally
celebrated from October
31st to November 2nd.
The Spanish adopted
the cultural celebration
from the Catholic
traditions of All Saints
Day (November 1st) and
All Souls Day (November
2nd). Over 3,000 years
ago Los Días de los
Muertos began in
Mexico, which included
20-day ceremonies
celebrated by the Aztecs.
Not only in Mexico is
this religious holiday
celebrated, but among
other Mexican Americans
in the United States
and Canada, as well
celebrated. The holiday
is in remembrance of
family, friends, and
others who have died.
Unlike Halloween, Day
of the Dead is a more
spiritual celebration to
honor loved ones in
the Hispanic culture.
Some of the rituals
include praying,
cooking traditional
foods, and gathering
together to honor the
deceased. The Mexican
culture believes that
communication exists
between the living
and the dead through
an afterlife. These
few days are the only
times that the living
can communicate with
passed family members’
and friend’s souls. The
celebration with both the
dead and the living is an
important ritual, and is
a time of recognition of
life’s cycle in our human
existence. Day of the
Dead may sound like
a somber event, but
in reality it is a happy,

A: “Human community
doesn’t end with death.
We are one family dead
or alive.”

Calvin has a huge love
for life. His early childhood was
hampered by severe allergies,
including a potentially deadly
one to peanuts. Cal is also
asthmatic. Ever since he moved
from Arizona to the California
coast, he has been an avid
surfer who spends as much time
possible in the water. He has a
big heart for kids who struggle in
any way. He discovered a group
of kids with cystic fibrosis who
were surfing at a camp he used
to attend, and was immediately
hooked. When he heard the

Behind the Scenes: Knotts Scary Farm

It’s that time of the year
again, the time where the weather
gets colder, days get shorter, and
things get creepier. All of the
famous Halloween attractions are
open at Knott’s Scary Farm. If you
haven’t been, hurry up! You have
three more days until this attraction
is closed. Knott’s Scary Farm
was the first amusement park to
decorate for Halloween, and it
remains one of the most popular
Halloween attractions today.
Eager to uncover the
madness behind the spooktacular
scares and masked monsters, we
interviewed a member of the Public
Relations personnel from Knott’s
Scary Farm, Jennifer Blazey.
Q: How long does it take to
transform Knott’s Berry Farm into
Knott’s Scary Farm?
A: Well the actual process of
designing and building mazes and
creating décor takes months. The
design process starts as soon as
the current Haunt is over. The
building of the mazes starts as
early as June. On the night of
the event we clear the park at 5:
30 and start to pump in fog, place
monsters and run the soundtrack
so that we can open to those who
purchased the pre-scare dinner
at 6:30.
Q: How many people does it take
to complete the transformation?
A: Most of the décor is already in
place so it is really a matter of the
monsters taking to the streets.
Q: How many people, in costume,
work per night?
A: We have roughly 1,000
monsters throughout the park.
Q: How long does it take to do the
makeup for the monsters?
A: Depending on how elaborate
the make-up is they are scheduled
for a 15-30 minute make-up
session.
Q: What has been the biggest
difference between early and
present day Knott’s Scary Farm?
A: When Knott’s Scary Farm
began, it was just a few
employees dressed up in
costumes with a few decorations.
Haunt now consists of 13 mazes,
7 live shows and 3 scare zones.
It has grown by leaps and
bounds.
Q: What is the most popular
section of the park during Knott’s
Scary Farm?
A: I would have to say that Ghost
Town continues to be one of
the most popular areas of the
Haunt due to the large number
of monsters and the vast amount
of fog!
Q: What is the comparison, in
revenue, between Knott’s Scary
Farm and Knott’s Berry Farm,
during a typical month?
A: We don’t release attendance
or revenue figures, but Knott’s
brings in more revenue in the
month of October than they
do any other time of the year,
including the summer.
Q: What is your favorite part of
Knott’s Scary Farm? Why?
A: I love to see all the mazes.
Unlike some of our competitors,
we do not base our mazes on
existing movies. Each of our
mazes is unique and comes from
the minds of our creative maze

designers. We can scare you with
clowns, Jack the Ripper, zombies;
they are all so great and their
execution exciting to see.
Q: What determines who gets
to be a monster? Are new
employees hired specifically for
Knott’s Scary Farm?
A: We have a hiring day in
August when anyone can come
down to apply to be a maze
monster. Street monsters are
a little different. For those
positions you need to audition
with representatives from our
entertainment department.
Q: What other personnel are
required for Knott’s Scary Farm to
function?
A: We also hire black out staff.
Those are people who wear all
black and help direct people
through the maze and line control
staff to assist with the que.
Q: What’s the most common
reason people are kicked out of
the park?
A: Someone can be asked
to leave the park for a variety
of reasons, which include
intoxication, violent behavior and
line cutting, to name just a few.

Are you a fan of thrills,
ghosts, and Daniel Radcliffe? If
so then The Woman in Black is a
must see. The play, now a feature
film starring Harry Potter’s Daniel
Radcliffe has been viewed by over
seven million people around the
world. The film is set to hit theaters
in 2011.
The thrilling play, based
off the novel by Susan Hill, takes
place in the early 1900’s. It follows
the story of Arthur Kipps, a junior
solicitor, as he travels to the small
town of Crythin Gifford, who comes
there to attend the funeral of a
client, Mrs. Alice Drablow. At the
funeral, he catches a glimpse of a
young woman with a hideous face
standing in the churchyard, donning
all black. Arthur tries to find out
more about this mysterious figure
but is turned down by villagers
who are reluctant to speak. Arthur
journeys down to Mrs. Drablow’s
home to sort through her papers
and uncovers a strange box of
letters which ultimately lead him
to the dreadful truth of the woman
in black. The secret unfolds at a
devastating price.
I had the wonderful
opportunity to watch this play
in London’s Fortune Theater.
The performance and story was
truly incredible, not to mention
frightening. Whether you choose
to see The Woman in Black as
a movie or a play, I guarantee
you won’t be disappointed. If
mysterious scares are a favorite,
you’ll be entertained throughout.

say is Speak Now Tour 2011, here

Attention: Call of Duty Coming Soon

It’s almost here,
the countdown is under
10 days and it’s time to
get serious. Of course, I
am talking about Call of
Duty: Black Ops. Black
Ops is currently being
developed by Treyarch
and is going to offer
many new features in
the upcoming game. It
is going to take place
in various locations,
such as Cuba and
Vietnam, and will focus
on a grittier storyline,
including military coverups during the Cold War.
Now to the part
that people are really
looking forward to, the
multi-player. Prestige
mode will be back, but
the level cap will be
at 50, unlike Modern
Warfare 2. Also, a big
change from many other
Call of Duty games is that there will be an ingame currency system
to buy new weapons
and upgrades similar to
Halo Reach’s system
for customizing armor.
With these CoD points,
players will also be
able to gamble in freefor-all Wager Matches
where only the top 3 will
come away with points.
Another similarity to Halo
is the new theater mode.
Players can now record,
manage, edit, and
upload in-game video
clips to their file share.
These new additions
have excited many
dedicated fans.
Notorious CoD players,
such as seniors Blake
Buckley (Hi im Buckley)
and Chandler St. Louis
(D1dier Drogba), will be
present at midnight to
get Black Ops the minute
it comes out. It is going
to be a long night for
these fans. This sort of
dedication is rarely found
in other games today.
It is very
fitting that this article
is sectioned in the
lifestyle portion of the
newspaper. CoD is not
just a game to some
people; it is a way of life.

Two Months Underground

This month, on
October 11th 2010, 33
miners who had been
trapped in the San Jose
Mine in Copiapo, Chile
were rescued! The miners
were in a dark copper-gold
mine for 68 days after it
collapsed on August 5th.
The experience was a
continuing struggle for
the miners, their families,
and the whole country,
but the miners were finally
returned home safely to
their families
During the
miraculous rescue, six
rescuers were sent down
in a specially- built capsule
called the Phoenix 1. Chile
mining minister Laurence
Golborne said that the
Phoenix capsule weighed
a total of 924 pounds and
had an interior height of
six feet, four inches. The
height of the capsule was
thirteen feet total.
Each miner was
brought up individually
in the capsule from over
2,000 feet below ground.
Each round trip took
about an hour, making
the total rescue over 24
hours. The miners were
brought up based on their
condition: those in decent
health first, then those
in poor health, and lastly
the fittest were reunited
with their families. The
miners were each brought
up wearing sunglasses
due to their exposure to
consecutive darkness
for two months. The six
rescuers were brought up
last, surrounded by many
families, Chilean president
Sebastian Pinera, and
other community members
that were cheering.
The miners were
each rushed to the hospital
after being rescued and
received several medical
check-ups. Some of the
miners suffered from
pneumonia because they
were underground for such
a long period of time and
others suffered from severe
anxiety attacks.
This incredible
story of survival will be
remembered in Chile
for generations. The 33
miners and their families
are extremely thankful
for the rescue and are so
grateful that everyone has
been returned home safe
and sound. The miners
and their families continue
to be present at masses.
President Pinera and
other officials continue to
investigate the cause of
mine collapse. Aside from
the unfortunate events of
the past two months, many
around the world remain
thankful to be with their
families and will always
remember the miraculous
survival of these 33 men
and women who spent 68
days underground.
Bullying... No More!

Statistics show that
77% of students around the
world are bullied mentally,
physically, and verbally every
day! Bullying has become
a huge problem in the past
couple of years. Children of
all ages live in fear of their
classmates and community,
who harass, terrorize, and
interrogate them. Kids should
not have to wake up in the
morning not wanting to go
to school because they are
afraid of being teased or
bullied. Not knowing what
can happen to them at any
given time, these kids live
in fear for their lives and do
not know how to stop this
continuous cycle of fright.
Over 100,000 children in
schools throughout America
carry guns to school in fear of
being physically attacked or
threatened. Unfortunately, this
is what many young adults
and children deal with on an
everyday basis. There are
many different reasons why
children are bullied, including
religion, gender, race, or
sexual preference.
People’s religions
conflict everyday. Conflicts
turn into arguments;
arguments turn into anger,
and anger turns into hatred.
Religion should teach us to
have respect for others, but
sometimes it has a harmful
effect on people, instead.
Religion and the beliefs of
others are one of the main
causes of bullying today.
Race is another determining
factor in bullying. Prejudice
against Asians, African
Americans, Mexicans, etc.
leads to an enormous amount
of bullying. There is still
hatred and discrimination
around the world towards
different races, no matter how
much we as a community
want to believe there isn’t.
Being bullied for one’s sexual
preference is also another
leading factor in bullying
today. Gays all over the world
are criticized, humiliated, and
beaten everyday because
of their sexual preference.
Bullying someone because
they are attracted to the
same sex has recently
caused a numerous amounts
of suicides. Statistics show
that the gay, lesbian, and
bisexual youths are three
times more likely to attempt

suicide because of the violent
threats and physical abuse
they face everyday. Bullying is
the number one cause of teen
deaths worldwide.
So what can we do
to help prevent bullying?
Organizations, groups, antibullying foundations and
movements are all different
ways to help contribute to
the prevention of bullying
worldwide. Celebrities across
the United States have spoken
out against bullying, such as
Justin Beiber, Perez Hilton,
and Tim Gunn. Gunn, the
number one celebrity to speak
out against anti-gay bullying,
has had real life experiences
of being seriously bullied
for his sexual preference. “It
was serious enough and I
was desperate enough that I
wanted to end my own life,”
he described. After being
constantly bullied, Gunn
attempted to commit suicide
by OD-ing on pills at the age
of 17. Bullying is serious,
harmful, and—in some
cases—deadly. This issue
should not be taken lightly,
and people all over the world
should get involved with antibullying organizations to help
stop this horrible epidemic.

Terror Alert Raised in Europe

On Monday,
October 3rd, the State
Department issued a travel
alert in Europe, warning
American travelers against
potential terrorist threats in
several countries.
According to
security reports, terrorists
may be plotting attacks
with deadly assault
weapons in public places.
Washington officials have
declared that al-Quaeda
is most likely behind the
potential attacks, after
receiving a “blessing”
from Osama bin Laden.
If any incident were to
take place, it would be bin
Laden’s most operational
role since 9/11, reports
ABC News. However, it is
believed that the theoretical
attacks in Europe would
be unlike the World Trade
Center bombing. Instead,
they would be closer to
the 2008 shootings in
Mumbai, India, where four
terrorists murdered 166
people. The terrorists held
hundreds more hostage
in the Taj Mahal Palace
and Oberoi Trident hotels,
and their attacks also
ravaged Mumbai’s main
train station, a hospital,
and a restaurant, locations
frequented by international
businessmen and political
leaders. According to Con
Coughlin, terrorism expert
and executive foreign
editor for Great Britain’s
Daily Telegraph, acts of
terrorism like those in
Mumbai could be incredibly
difficult to prevent: “It’s
impossible to prevent these
attacks if you’ve got these
low-intensity terror cells
that just want to pick up
a gun and start shooting
people,” he said.
These potential
terrorist threats do not
specifically target American
travelers, but instead are
aimed against Europe as a
whole. The United Kingtom
raised its terrorism threat
level from “general” to
“high” for British citizens
traveling to Germany and
France after nine bomb
threats were reported
in France over the past
month. Security has been
increased in France, with
61 soldiers deployed to
some of the country’s
most treasured landmarks
after a bomb threat was
reported at the Eiffel tower.
The German government
has made a statement that
there are no immediate
signs of a plot against
Germany, downplaying
recent reports.
The domestic
terrorism threat level in
Great Britain remains at
“severe,” which means
an attack is highly likely.
According to the United
States Department of
Homeland Security’s web
page, “The United States
government’s national
threat level is Elevated, or
Yellow. For all domestic
and international flights,
the U.S. threat level is
High, or Orange.” Despite
security reports that
al-Quaeda has moved
beyond the “surveillance”
phase of their operation
and have received a
go-ahead to strike, the
State Department has not
formally warned Americans
not to travel to Europe.
Instead, the Department
advocates being proactive:
Simply having common
sense seems like an
American traveler’s best
defense. “Don’t walk
around with the American
flag on your back,” advises
former U.S Homeland
Security Secretary Michael
Chertoff. “(Consider) where
would you take shelter if
something happened.”

Breast Cancer Awareness All About Bee Stings

Breast cancer
is one of the most
prevalent diseases
among women today.
This deadly virus
occurs as a result of the
uncontrolled growth of
breast cells. Sometimes
there are no visible
symptoms of breast
cancer because there
could be a lump that is
too small for the patient
or a doctor to see. But
sometimes there are
visible symptoms. These
include swelling, skin
irritation, pain, redness,
scaliness, or a lump
located in the underarm
area.
Studies show that
breast cancer can be
hereditary. In fact, about
five to ten percent of
breast cancer cases are
due to an abnormality
inherited from a family
member. However, 7080% of breast cancer
cases occur in women
who have no family
history of the disease.
The majority of breast
cancers are due to
genetic abnormality
that occurs as a result
of aging. About one in
every eight women in
the United States will
develop invasive breast
cancer in the course of
their lifetime.

inevitable, there are a
few things you can do to
help lower your risks.
In 2010, an
estimated 207,090 new

substantially lower your
risks of developing
breast cancer. It may feel
like cancer is a foreign
aspect in our lives today,
but the truth is, many of
us will either experience
cancer ourselves
or personally know
someone who is battling
cancer, and it’s important
to know the facts and
what you can do to help.
Surprisingly,
breast cancer doesn’t
only affect women. In
fact, about one percent
of all new breast cancers
occur in men. It is
estimated that about
1,970 new cases of

wide variety of allergic
reactions that can stem
from a bee sting. Most
people who are stung
by bees will develop a
unique reaction at the
site of the sting. The
sting usually causes

people experience
allergic reactions to
bee stings that cause
anaphylaxis, which is
a life-threatening type
of allergic reaction

stung. Bee stings can
in fact, be deadly. About
40 people living in the
United States die each
year from a venom
related allergy. A large
amount of these deaths
were among people who
had no knowledge of
their venom allergy.
So who is at risk
of having an allergic
reaction? The people
who are mainly at risk
are those with a history
of allergic diseases,
such as allergic rhinitis
and asthma. A full body
allergic reaction to a
bee sting may result in
a number of sympotms,
which normally appear
within a few hours. If you
experience any possible
symptoms, you should
seek medical attention
as quickly as possible. Although these
facts may seem
frightening, its important
to remember that only a
small amount of people
experience dangerous
reactions to a common
bee sting. If you ever
happen to get stung by a
bee, don’t panic! Almost
all reactions are normal
and will soon pass; just
remember not to tick off
any bees.
Flu Shot Anyone?
How to Stay Healthy on Halloween

Fall is right around
the corner, and that
means that flu season is
almost here. This year,
as always, is expected
to be big for the flu.
According to the Center
for Disease Control
(CDC), the famous
H1N1 will be returning
this year as well as
the seasonal flu. The
CDC recommends a flu
vaccine and this year’s
vaccine contains three
strains of the virus in one
vaccine. H3N2 virus, an
influenza B virus and
the H1N1 virus are all
included in the vaccine.
That means only one
shot and you will be
covered from them all.
Preventing the flu
means more than just
getting a shot; you also
need to take cautionary
action. CDC’s website
has some tips to prevent
getting sick: Cover
your nose and mouth
with a tissue when you
cough or sneeze,throw
the tissue in the trash
after you use it, and
wash your hands often
with soap and water.
If soap and water are
not available, use an
alcohol-based hand rub.
Avoid touching your
eyes, nose and mouth,
because germs spread
this way. Try to avoid
close contact with sick
people.
If you are sick
with flu–like illness, CDC
recommends that you
stay home for at least
24 hours after your fever
is gone except to get
medical care or for other
necessities. (Your fever
should be gone without
the use of a feverreducing medicine).
While sick, limit contact
with others as much as
possible to keep from
infecting them.
All of these tips
seem simple, but they
really do work. The flu
can become a serious
issue around campus
once it starts spreading,
so if you get sick the best
thing you can do is stay
home and get better.

Halloween is
quickly approaching,
and we all know what
that means: tons of free
candy! With so much
candy available to us
during Halloween, it’s
hard not to indulge. But
there are a few things
you can do to limit your
sugar intake and feel
less guilty about eating
all that candy.
1. Eat a large and
healthy dinner about an
hour before you go out.
This will make you feel
relatively full throughout
the night and you will
be less likely to gorge
yourself on candy when
you get home.
2. Skip the
chocolate. Although
non-chocolate treats are
made mostly of sugar,
they are generally a lot
lower in fat and calories
than chocolate based
items.
3. Eat Tootsie
Pops! They’re extremely
delicious and contain
only 60 calories with no
grams of fat.
4. After a few
days, throw away any
leftover candy you
have. Although this
may be hard to do, it’ll
benefit you in the long
run and will help limit
your amount of candy
consumption.
Although you may
feel better about yourself
for following these
tips, remember that
Halloween only happens
once a year, so don’t be
afraid to enjoy some of
the many pleasures this
holiday season offers.

NBA SEASON 2010-2011

With the NBA
preseason over and the
official season underway,
it’s time to start asking
ourselves the big
questions. For those of
you who missed all the
preseason info, there
are a few big changes
you need to know about
that are taking place
in the NBA this year.
You may have heard
of all the trade rumors
that were surrounding
Carmelo Anthony over
the summer. The biggest
assumption was that the
Denver Nuggets were
trading Anthony to the
New Jersey Nets to get
some younger players
in return. For the entire
summer, the Nuggets
were hoping that they
would be able to hold
onto their star player;
but the Nets offered
Anthony a three year 65
million dollar contract
that the Nuggets just
couldn’t compete with.
Nothing is set in stone
for Anthony, who is
going to keep his options
open until he is sure of
where he wants to play
in the upcoming season.
In a shocking turn of
events, Shaquille O’Neil
has changed jerseys
once again and is now
running with the Boston
Celtics. Having won
three championships
with the Lakers, it
took many people by
surprise that he would
play for the Lakers’ arch
rival. Shaq is currently
the oldest basketball
player in the league, so
adding him to the aging
roster of the Celtics
probably won’t make
much of a difference.
The head coach of the
Los Angeles Lakers and
winner of 10 NBA Finals
championships, Phil
Jackson, has announced
that this will be his last
year coaching in the
NBA. He hopes to get
one more championship
with the Lakers in order
to accomplish what
no other coach in the
NBA has accomplished
before: to “three-peat”
twice in one career. Of
course, the biggest NBA
news that surfaced over
the summer was the
Lebron James trade.
After much suspense,
Lebron finally announced
that he will be leaving
the Cleveland Cavaliers
and “bringing his talents
down to South Beach”
to play for the Miami
Heat. Finally, one of the
“up and comers” in the
league is the Oklahoma
City Thunder. What’s

Many hardcore sports
fans, especially those
that exist at Santa
Margarita, display a
passion for sports that
almost constitutes that of
a religion. This passion
is very relevant in the
sport of football because
it allows the entire
student body to gather
together and become
a part of an event that
could have major media
implications for the
team and the school.
Santa Margarita football
games, especially during
this year’s resurgence,
have become an event
that no student would
want to miss. The
atmosphere at the
games has been electric
and passionate, but in
some situations, there
exists a problem. As
a fan, I have noticed
a shocking lack of
participation by some of
the fans that have been
attending the games. I
am also surprised by the
lack of attendance that
has been noticeable in
some games against
very notable opponents.
I do not present this

information to nag but
instead to encourage.
The season has not
even reached its climax
and there is still room
for electric football
atmosphere. The
fantastic play of our
football team deserves
a packed student
section, not just at the
Homecoming game and
the close rivalries, but
the showdowns with
major powers like Los
Alamitos and Orange
Lutheran. I do not care
that a fan does not
know why a yellow flag
is being thrown by a
referee. But I do care
when my chance to take
in a good football game
is being interrupted
by someone yapping
on their cell phone or
moving past me so
they can catch up with
their friends. Show up
to the game, take your
seat, and cheer for
the incredible running
of Cory Thomson, the
passionate leadership of
Emmett O’Brien, and the
skillful direction of Adam
Young. I hope many
students will absorb
this message as a call
to great performances
in the last four games
in trinity league play. I
want to have the ability
to rock the stands with
passionate fans like
Spencer Buckley, Kevin
Clark, and Andrew Quirk
when we finish the
league season by frying
the Servite Friars. And
do not worry seniors; this
only applies to the lower

Thunder have going for
them? Their age. Unlike
the Celtics, the Thunder
actually have young
players in their armory;
which means that as the
team grows, they will
acquire the experience
necessary to become
one of the best in the

ABOUT COLOR GUARD

There is a team
on campus that has
been undefeated for two
years. They practice
until late at night. They
have only ten members,
although they recently
got a “sweepstakes,”
beating every other team
in their tournament,
including those with over
forty five members. This
team is color guard! I
interviewed some of
these talented girls and
went to one of their
practices one Thursday
to get an inside view of
color guard.
The color guard
girls get to the band
room at three thirty and
that is when they eat
dinner. I hung out with
them and asked them
some questions. The
color guard girls are
unbelievably friendly and
nice and they made me
feel very welcome. At
four o’clock, warm up,
(stretching and dance
routines to various
songs) begins. The girls
do warm up on their
own and keep very
on busy. Then, their
coaches show up and
begin teaching them
some flag routines. They
were so talented and
comfortable with the
routine that I did not find
out until afterwards that
they had never done it
before! Around six, the
girls go to practice on the
field. They practice out
there until nine o’clock.
Altogether, their practice
was five hours long!

Me: Why should
someone join color
guard?
Arianna Hunter: It is just
a different opportunity.
You get to dance,
perform for people, meet
new friends, and have
fun. You can ask anyone
in guard; they love it.
Me: How long do you
practice and how
much?
Katrina Mazloomian:
About four hours, twice
a week, plus band camp
during the summer.
Although they are
rigorous, they are very
fun and time flies by!
Me: What are
some color guard
achievements?
Carina Adra: We got first
place in field season for
being undefeated for two
years.
Me: Do you require any
experience to join the
team?
Carina Adra: Just be
motivated and willing to
give up some of your
time with a positive
attitude!
Me: Would you
recommend color
guard to everyone?

Attention SM: The Blueprint Is Now The Eagle Eye

As you’ve surely
noticed, the advanced
student body has voted
to change the name of
the student newspaper
from The Blueprint to The
Eagle Eye. There has
been some confusion
among the Santa
Margarita community as
to why the journalism
staff encouraged this
decision, so we’d like
to clear the air. In all
honesty, the newspaper
is a project very dear to
every journalism student’s
heart. We sacrifice many
of our late starts and
spend several hours after
school putting our all
into our work in addition
to the time we spend in
class, and therefore we
feel that the newspaper
should be a reflection of
our efforts in all respects,
including the name of the
paper itself. This is not
a new sentiment among
the journalism staff; the
students have wanted
to change the name for
several years.
For those who
argue that changing
the name of the paper
is a disgrace to Santa
Margarita tradition: this
is not the first change
that has been made over
the school’s twenty-three
years, and we doubt it
will be the last. The name
of the yearbook has
been changed four times
(The Eagle, The Legacy,
AERIE, The Talon).
Seniors who participate in
Kairos no longer receive
their coveted Kairos
mugs. Students are now
required to wear mass
uniforms. New teachers
are hired every year. The
school has added new
buildings and remodeled
existing ones, including
the chapel. The students’
beloved “three-for-adollar” cookie deal is no
longer available because
the food vendors have
changed. Even the
name of the school itself
has changed: the word
“Catholic” was not added
to our name until the
1995-1996 school year,
according to Mr. Dunne’s
secretary, Mrs. Catherine
Hassen.
No one on the
current newspaper staff
or who has participated in
the class for the past few
years is even cognizant
of how The Blueprint
came to be the title of the
student paper. We simply
wanted to pick something
that would better reflect
the Santa Margarita
community. To have an
“Eagle Eye” means to
see the world critically, to
be observant and aware.
Shouldn’t such perception
be advocated among
high school students?
Shouldn’t we be critical of
the world in which we live
so we can do our best to
make it better?
William
Shakespeare once wrote,
“That which we call a
rose by any other name
would smell as sweet.”
This exemplifies our
sentiment: we may have
changed the name of the
paper, but we still will put
the same amount of heart
and soul into what we do
and report our content
with as much gumption
as ever before. To the
individuals who unfairly
attempted to coerce
students into voting
one way or another: we
respect your opinion, but
we do not agree with it.
We wish you would’ve
raised your concerns with
us personally rather than
taking the course of action
you did, but the past is
the past, and we’d all just
like to move on. There are
far more important things
in life than the name of a
high school newspaper.
To those who have argued
that changing the name
now might set a precedent
allowing future journalism
classes to change the
name again: so be it.
Again, I emphasize that
the newspaper is purely
a product of the Santa
Margarita journalism
students, so it should be
up to them to enact their
vision for their own “baby”
in the future.
Acting
compassionately toward
those with whom we
disagree is one of the
core values of Christian
teaching. Therefore, it
is in the spirit of Caritas
Christi that we ask
the Santa Margarita
community to bury the
metaphorical hatchet. On
principle, we should all be
able to embrace change,
for it leads to development
and growth, no matter
what form it comes in.
Attention Santa Margarita Underclassmen...

Attention
Underclassmen:
As a freshmen
at Santa Margarita, we
would often look to the
seniors as the leaders of
our school, the people
who had made their
mark on campus and
held the most privileges.
Whatever school you
visit, the seniors are
the class who have
the higest ranking and
expect all those around
to recognize it.
There is
something called
“seniority,” and it is time
for underclassman to
realize the true definition
of it. We have spent
more time than you have
on this campus, and
remain the last reigning
class to witness Santa
Margarita Catholic High
School to welcome
our new principle, Mr.
Dunne, and the opening
of the Aquatic Center.
Our 2011 class is one
of a kind, and should
be respected and
valued. Without even
having to be stated,
underclassmen should
just recognize that their
time will come, whether
it’s next year or in 2014
… good luck freshmen.
Underclassman must
realize that we too have
been forced to sit in
the back of the stands
and sit in the grotto, but
that was three years
ago. We have waited
our turn to gain the
senior privileges, and
one day sooner or later
you will aslo gain those
freedoms.
Santa Margarita
football games are
where high school
memories are built
and where we can
show our school spirit
as a whole. Seniors,
especially are often the
most excited because
they now have recieved
the privilege to cheer
on their classmates in
the front row. However,
recently, that tradition
has been tainted by
underclassmen’s desire
to upstage the seniors
by taking our spot.
Senior Amanda Rooth
shares, “Well, even as
a senior I’m shorter
than some freshmen,
so I say freshmen in
the back and seniors in
the front … it’s like an

all of us seniors have
been forced to stand in
the back of the stands
and do our best to see
over the heads of our
fellow eagles. It is an
unstated tradition that
as each year goes by,
the class gets closer and
closer to the front of the
stands. Therefore, we
have waited our turn and
this season, the front
bleachers have a name
on them, it’s seniors.
And to the
seniors, this is our year
to make our mark on
campus and to leave this
school remembering the
class of 2011. Whether
it’s making OC Varsity
by standing in the front
of the football stands or
creating new traditions,
we dominate this year.
This year, we have
earned our place on
campus, and next fall
we will soon fall to the
bottom of the totem pole
once again. Therefore,
this school year is to be
led by our senior class
and to be followed by the
underclassmen.

Santa Margarita: The iPhone or Blackberry!?

The technology of
our time is indescribable.
Back about 134 years
ago, the telephone
was invented. When it
came out, do you think
people wondered, “Man
when are we going to
have video chat on our
phone and when can
we send email from our
fingertips?” Of course
A couple of years ago
video chatting from our
phones was a dream;
some may even say
it’s a form of space
technology. So, Santa
Margarita, I bring you
the biggest question
of our time: iPhone or
Blackberry?
The iPhone
has been on the most
wanted list for over a
year now. it’s phone
features on are as
simple as touching or
speaking to call. You
can tap a phone number
from your contacts
list, a text message,
or even a website.
With the iphone, it is
possible to call anyone
just by speaking their
name. You can also
go from call to call and
add up to five callers.
The iPhone became
famous for having
the newest and most
popular format for texting
where you can see the
entire conversation and
determine who said
what from the different
colored bubbles. Email
is also accessible from
where ever you are.
iPhone has made it so
you can connect all of
your accounts on your
phone. You can even
have multiple accounts
and maneuver through
them with ease. You
have the ability to search
whatever your heart
desires with the 4G that
this company offers.
This phone is capable of
going to any website and
allowing you to look at
your screen just as you
would at your computer.
5-mega pixel camera with
an LED flash and an auto
focus and face detection
and a zoom allows you
to take amazing pictures
with your phone! You
can also video in high
quality and you have
to ability to send the
high quality video to
anyone or upload it
on to the internet. The
iPhone has a special
application store called
Apps. This Apps store
has an unlimited and
never ending amount
of applications. Some
even being created as
we speak.
The iPhone
has a great maps and
GPS system, which
alows you to around
town in an instant with
easy to view maps.
The iPhone keyboard
became famous for its
touch screen and easy
to see keys. It now
comes with the most
famous and loved new
accessory: FACETIME.
Along with having
multitasking, folders for
Apps, iBooks, itunes,
YouTube, Weather,
notes, clocks, alarms,
compass and so much
more that you can
purchase.
The Blackberry,
in my opinion, has just
been playing a catch-up
game since the iPhone
was born. For the phone
on the Blackberry,
you can call from your
contacts list or copy
and paste the phone
number you desire and
call immediately. The
Blackberry took after
the IPhone by using the
same format to review
conversations and make
communication much
easier. Blackberry allows
you to have your email
with you wherever you
go. It connects with your
email so that you can
email from anywhere
you find necessary. The
screen of the Blackberry
is much larger than
any of the other screen
blackberry has come out
with previously making
navigating through
the internet that much
easier. You again get to
look at your phone like
your computer screen.
The Blackberry has a
5-mega-pixel camera
with a flash and auto
focus, face detection,
and two time zoom
allows you to save
memories that will last
with ease. You also
have the ability to film.
Blackberry allows you
to download a limited
number of applications.
Brick-braker is the
blackberry’s most
famous application
that everyone loves.
The Blackberry has
a GPS application
that lets you easily
maneuver across town
with great images. The
Blackberry one-ups the
iphone here because
the Blackberry comes
with a touch screen
keyboard along with a
traditional full keyboard
slide out. Along with all
of the above features
you receive calendars,
clocks, alarms, weather
and you can download
more opportunities.
This gives the
average person a
relatively good idea
about each phone.
So now it is up to you
to decide: iPhone or
Blackberry?
Knott’s Vs. Universal Studios

            Universal
Studios versus
Knott’s it’s a personal
preference which
you prefer to go to.
Personally, I think
Universal Studios
Horror Nights is a lot
better because it is
much scarier. Knott’s
Scary Farm, however, is
the oldest horror theme
park in the nation. The
first time I ever went to
Knott’s Scary Farm was
when I was 13 years
old. It was the most
terrifying night ever. As
the years went by, it
became less and less
scary. I feel Knott’s is
more for the age group
13-17, but if you get
scared easily, stick with
Knott’s! Universal is
similar to Knott’s but is
taken to a higher level,

with more monsters and
scarier mazes. Universal
is definitely 100 times
scarier then Knott’s.
Knott’s always portrays
scary characters and
some scary movies,
but Universal Horror
Nights includes the
latest terrors, such as
a Nightmare on Elm
Street and Paranormal
Activity. I feel like each
year Knott’s is the same
“been there, seen that,”
whereas Universal will
always change and keep
up with more recent
horror by bringing scary
movies and characters to
life. I also felt that Knott’s
was way more crowded
and disorganized. It
takes forever to get into
the amusement park and
waiting in lines for the
rides are not even worth
it. I feel that Knott’s is
much more popular than
any other haunted theme
park because it is bigger.
Knott’s is also advertised
the most, which may
be why more people
attend Knott’s. If you
have the chance to go to
Universal Horror Nights,
you must go because
it is definitely worth the
scare.
