Courses for Adults in
Co. Kilkenny 2014 / 2015
It gives me great pleasure to introduce this booklet on the
courses available for adults in Co. Kilkenny. The booklet
provides information about the range of learning opportunities
available in schools and centres across the county.
The course directory is set out in a clear and concise manner
providing adults wishing to return to education with the information
they require to make informed choices about the courses they would
like to undertake. County Kilkenny Adult Educational Guidance
Service has compiled this information from a wide range of education
and training providers reflecting the diverse array of courses available
at different levels from hobby and leisure courses to certificate, diploma
and degree courses. This publication reflects the myriad of opportunities
available for adults wishing to return to learning. Prospective leaners
seeking to discuss their options can make contact with the Adult
Educational Guidance Service for assistance.

Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board
The Minister of Education and Skills approved the 1st July 2013 as the
establishment day for the new Education and Training Boards.
The Vocational Education Committees (VECs) in Co. Kilkenny and Co. Carlow
have merged to form the Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board.
Similar mergers have happened in other VECs around the country and the 33
existing VECs will be replaced by 16 ETBs. The new website address for Kilkenny
and Carlow Education and Training Board is www.kcetb.ie
QQI
In 2012, FETAC completed its amalgamation with HETAC, NQAI and IUQB and a
new integrated agency, Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), was established.
FETAC, HETAC and the NQAI are now dissolved. The new agency will continue to
provide continuity of service as it evolves.
The new QQI award brand will be issued on QQI certificates from the first
certification period of 2015. The wording on the certificates will be identified as
‘QQI Award – Further Education and Training Award’ (for further education and
training qualifications at Levels 1-6 of the National Framework of Qualifications)
or ‘QQI Award- Higher Education and Training’ (for higher education and training
qualifications at Levels 6 – 10 on the National Framework of Qualifications).

Awards Info
There are 4 award types, which are now made by Quality and Qualifications
Ireland (QQI); major, minor, special purpose and supplemental. These awards are
made at levels 1 to 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).
A new Common Awards System (CAS) for all further education and training was

international charitable trust working with
people with intellectual disabilities and other
kinds of special needs.
In Camphill residents share their home, spiritual
and working lives with those who are motivated
to meet others as individuals needing support
and recognition for what they are, and not as
carer and cared for in the conventional sense.
Most of the people providing support to those
with disabilities are volunteers, coming locally
or from abroad.
Camphill is a way of life, where each person
according to ability contributes what they can
