Welcome to our new catalogue.
Hannabach, a family business, is well known for it´s wide range of high quality strings for
the classical guitar family. Over the years our strings have received an excellent reputation among musicians.
This reputation has been forged, right from the very start and continues right up to the
present day, by always adhering to the following principles
1. Nothing is more important than the sound.
2. Only the best quality strings bring out the creative development of the musician and the sound of the instrument.
3. Expert handwork plus the intuition of experienced workers make a noticable
difference in playability, durability, tunability and intonation.
We have never gone down the route of trying to produce the cheapest strings, rather creating great sounds that accompany guitarists
on their musical journey. Whatever the genre.
Anyone can find the string that best suits both their instrument and their musical imagination. We have gone to considerable lengths to
carefully combine treble and bass strings into sets that blend perfectly together.
But if you want to go even further, you can achieve an even more personalized tone through the abundance of the variety of sounds
and combinations available. The search for perfection is not always easy, but well worth the effort, if the end result is your ideal string
combination.

Since 1946 we have been manufacturing strings for beginners and professional guitarists alike
in our facility in Egglkofen, Upper Bavaria, Germany.
The company however was founded in 1869 in the town former
named Schönbach – today a part of the Czech Republic. To this
day our strings are still handwound on special, self-designed
machines.
A three-level control ensures the well-known Hannabach quality.
1. Measuring of the mulifilament core before spinning
2. Visual inspection after spinning
3. Individual control before packing
Thus we achieve the constant high quality which our customers
throughout the world require, appreciate and expect of Hannabach.
Numerous experiments with different material combinations are
researched before a new string goes into production.
We are constantly testing new materials, wires, alloys and combinations resulting in complete versatility and flexibilty throughout the range and offering numerous different strings for special
variations of the classical guitar (shortscale, 8- and 10- string
instruments, bass, octave, fifth, fourths, terz guitars, ...).
This is also true for custom orders: As we only produce by
hand, it is possible to make strings according to our customer´s
own individual requirements. Please contact us for any special
requests.
For this service we will require the following information:
1. string tone (if possible with written position in the
sheet music)
2. exact scale length (free-vibrating length between the
bridge and saddle)
3. Total length of the string

The Series 815 is the basis for our legendary reputation and our best-selling string too - for good reason.
The 815 is THE multi-purpose string that works great on almost any instrument, for every guitar player, in any style. It is suitable for

815 have a much higher silver content in the bass strings and feature precision-round nylon trebles.

„Flitterspinnung“: Here the wire is wound with a relatively wide space at the „bridge end“ of the string. This allows more elasticity, so it
is easier to wrap around the tie-block. Other pluses: tension distribution is different and the strings do not protrude so much from the

The 800 series was our first breakthrough in the manufacturing of strings for the classical guitar. This led us to specialize on producing strings for the classic guitar market only. 800 Series basses are wound with silver-plated copper wire around a nylon-multifilament, they sound brilliant, but not intrusive and provide a decent bass tone. The trebles, made from
high-density nylon, offer the typical, slightly damped sound of nylon strings. Today the 800 Serie is the high-level entry into the world
of Hannabach.

»Short scale/fractional Guitar strings«
To enable a short-scale/ fractional guitar (children guitar) to sound and feel “correct“, it is especially
necessary to use specially designed strings.
Through the smaller body and shorter neck Student guitars have a significantly shorter scale length.
If you were to cut a full-size 4/4 guitar string, the string tension would be reduced significantly, on a ¾ instrument at least 15 % too low
tension (Taylor’s formula). The results are string rattling on the fretboard, nasal sound, “fifths uncleanness” and “sloppy” playability.
Therefore, you should only use our specially designed and manufactured strings on children guitars.
The Hannabach 890 series offers the perfectly matched strings for guitars in sizes of 1/8 (Scale 44-48cm), 1/4 (Scale 49-52cm), 1/2
(Scale 53-56cm), 3/4 (Scale 57-61cm) und 7/8 (Scale 62-64cm).

Ideal treble strings for guitar players who prefer the characteristic, brighter sound of carbon strings.
Carbon has a significantly higher density than nylon, tuned to the same pitch the strings can be thinner and thus more “alive” and responsive.
The bending stiffness of the string decreases, the string vibrates more easily, the number of harmonics increases, making the sound
more brilliant.
For one, the sound may seem unusual. For others, our carbon string could mean the end of their search for the perfect sound.

Hannabach offers wound G3-strings in different versions with the series 870, 875 and 877.
Many guitar-players prefer a brighter-sounding G-string. If you are looking for the perfect “transitional string“ between bass and treble,
then you can find it here.
In the manufacture of strings it is important to develop a sonically perfect fit of thickness and tensile load. These strings can be combined
with all sets. Available in five tensions as G3 single string in three materials: silver plated wound, chrome wound and polished, aluminum
wound and polished.
Aluminum is lighter than silver-plated copper, chromium steel is
much harder. A thin, heavy string may sound „wiry“, often more
metallic. The core strings are matched to fit the different winding
materials.

For our friends of vienna and bavarian folk music, we offer our 271 series strings for “Schrammelgitarre”.
The Schrammelgitarre guitar (also called contra-guitar) is a special design of the classical guitar. The tonal range is extended by additional bass strings.
The strings on the regular neck are standard. Typical is the second unfretted neck where nine bass strings are swinging freely. These
so-called drone strings are plucked, they also resonate passively and provide a fuller sound.
The drone strings are tuned in semitones, they are made of silver plated copper with nylon core. Our strings for Schrammelgitarre are
available as single strings, as a set for 15- and 13 -string instruments and 9- and 7 -string drone sentence. The drone-sets can be
combined with any other of your favorite Hannabach sets.
These strings are available in one tension as set for 13- or 15-string instruments, as 7- or 9-string drone-set and as single strings.

Developed by Jörg Hannabach (percussionist of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra) and son of Werner Hannabach. The two available
versions offer the sounds orchestral percussionists are looking for.
Standard: All strings are of the same alloy for relatively dry, slightly damped sound.
Brilliant Orchestra: Combination of three standard and two brilliant strings, more trebles and volume, slightly louder than the Standard.
Hannabach strings are only suitable for snare-drums with „Dresdner throw-off“ system.
